2Synergistic actions of olomoucine and bone morphogenetic protein-4 in axonal repair after acute spinal cord contusion显示文摘To determine whether olomoucine acts synergistically with bone morphogenetic protein-4 in the treatment of spinal cord injury,we established a rat model of acute spinal cord contusion by impacting the spinal cord at the T8 vertebra.We injected a suspension of astrocytes derived from glial-restricted precursor cells exposed to bone morphogenetic protein-4(GDAs BMP) into the spinal cord around the site of the injury,and/or olomoucine intraperitoneally.Olomoucine effectively inhibited astrocyte proliferation and the formation of scar tissue at the injury site,but did not prevent proliferation of GDAs BMP or inhibit their effects in reducing the spinal cord lesion cavity.Furthermore,while GDAs BMP and olomoucine independently resulted in small improvements in locomotor function in injured rats,combined administration of both treatments had a significantly greater effect on the restoration of motor function.These data indicate that the combined use of olomoucine and GDAs BMP creates a better environment for nerve regeneration than the use of either treatment alone,and contributes to spinal cord repair after injury.Liang Chen Jianjun Li Liang Wu Mingliang Yang Feng Gao Li Yuan 2014Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,20:4
3Study on imaging method for measuring droplet size in large sprays显示文摘Information of droplet size and size distribution lays the basis for investigations of atomization mechanisms and performance optimization.However,the laser diffraction and phase Doppler particle analyzers have difficulty in accurately characterizing sprays with a wide range of droplet sizes and very large droplets,especially if a large number of droplets are aspherical.A method to measure size in such largedroplet sprays based on digital imaging with backward illumination was developed,including an image acquisition system and image process programs.Calibration of the measurement system was performed using a dot calibration target with different dot sizes.An experimental setup was designed and established to characterize spray nozzles under different operation loads,as well as different nozzle arrangements.Results show that the droplet size of sprays ranges from dozens of microns to several millimeters.The superiority of wide load range for such nozzles was indicated by the size-measurement results under half-load to full-load operations.The present study revealed that the image processing technique can be effectively implemented for in-line size measurements of sprays with a wide distribution of droplet size and aspherical droplets,which would be difficult to characterize by other methods.Wu Zhou Jiarui Hu Mingliang Feng Bin Yang Xiaoshu Cai 2015Particuology2015,13,5:3

6Clinical characteristics and survival analysis of colorectal cancer in China:a retrospective cohort study with 13,328 patients from southern China显示文摘Background:Colorectal cancer(CRC)is one of the most common cancers in China.However,detailed clinical characteristics and survival information are limited.This study aimed to investigate the potential epidemiological and clinical risk factors affecting the survival of CRC patients in southern China.Methods:Patients with primary CRC between 1994 and 2019 at the First and the Sixth Affiliated Hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University(Guangzhou,China)were included.Clinical characteristics and survival outcomes were collected from medical records.The Kaplan–Meier method was used to estimate overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS),and Cox’s proportional-hazards regression model was used to estimate hazard ratios and 95%confidence intervals.Results:Of all 13,328 patients,60.1%were men;the mean age was 61.3 years;53.5%had colon cancer.Among all patients,1,864(14.0%)were diagnosed with stage IV disease.The 3-and 5-year OS rates were 79.90%and 71.50%,respectively,whereas the 3-and 5-year PFS rates were 70.30%and 63.90%,respectively.The median OS and PFS times were 189 and 149 months,respectively.Among 13,328 patients,428(14.0%)patients with poor/undifferentiated cancer suffered recurrence.In patients with stageⅢand stageⅣdiseases,the median PFS times of the patients who received chemotherapy were significantly longer than those in patients who had not received chemotherapy(stageⅢ:147 vs 62 months,P<0.001;stageⅣ:14 vs 9.5 months,P<0.001).Conclusions:This retrospective cohort study illustrates the current status of the clinical characteristics of patients with CRC in southern China.Sex,age,family history,location of cancer occurrence,differentiation status,T status,N status,M status,clinical stage,operation,and surgical margin are independent factors associated with the OS of CRC patients.Lekun Fang Ziqing Yang Mingliang Zhang Manqi Meng Junyan Feng Chuangqi Chen 2021Gastroenterology Report2021,9,6:1
7Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of NtbHLH gene family in tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum)and the role of NtbHLH86 in drought adaptation显示文摘The bHLH transcription factors play pivotal roles in plant growth and development,production of secondary metabolites and responses to various environmental stresses.Although the bHLH genes have been well studied in model plant species,a comprehensive investigation of the bHLH genes is required for tobacco with newly obtained high-quality genome.In the present study,a total of 309 NtbHLH genes were identified and can be divided into 23 subfamilies.The conserved amino acids which are essential for their function were predicted for the NtbHLH proteins.Moreover,the NtbHLH genes were conserved during evolution through analyzing the gene structures and conserved motifs.A total of 265 NtbHLH genes were localized in the 24 tobacco chromosomes while the remained 44 NtbHLH genes were mapped to the scaffolds due to the complexity of tobacco genome.Moreover,transcripts of NtbHLH genes were obviously tissue-specific expressed from the gene-chip data from 23 tobacco tissues,and expressions of 20 random selected NtbHLH genes were further confirmed by quantitative real-time PCR,indicating their potential functions in the plant growth and development.Importantly,overexpressed NtbHLH86 gene confers improve drought tolerance in tobacco indicating that it might be involved in the regulation of drought stress.Therefore,our findings here provide a valuable information on the characterization of NtbHLH genes and further investigation of their functions in tobacco.Ge Bai Da-Hai Yang Peijian Chao Heng Yao MingLiang Fei Yihan Zhang Xuejun Chen Bingguang Xiao Feng Li Zhen-Yu Wang Jun Yang He Xie 2021Plant Diversity2021,43,6:1
8Ultra-broadband,fast,and polarization-sensitive photoresponse of low-symmetry 2D NdSb_(2)显示文摘Broadband photodetectors with polarization-sensitive ability have received extraordinary attention for modern optoelectronic devices.Ideal photodetectors should possess high responsivity,fast response,and good stability,which are rare to meet at the same time in one low-symmetric two-dimentional(2D)material.In this work,neodymium diantimonides(RSb_(2)),a member of light rare-earth diantimonides RSb_(2)(R=La–Nd,Sm)with low-symmetry structure,is introduced as a fascinating highly anisotropic 2D material for broadband detection(532 nm to 4μm).The photodetector exhibits a responsivity of 0.49 mA·W^(−1)with 15μs response time at 532 nm and highly stable performance under ambient conditions over 8 months.Furthermore,we identify the polarization-sensitive photoresponse of the detector and demonstrate a high anisotropic factor~1.6.In addition,strong inplane anisotropy is revealed by anisotropic phonon response and the photodetection mechanism is investigated by scanning photocurrent microscopy measurements.This pioneer work on RSb_(2)paves the way for further exploration of 2D RSb_(2)for high performance polarized photodetectors with fast photothermoelectric response.Gang Li Hanlin Zhang Yong Li Shiqi Yin Xucai Kan Wensen Wei Haifeng Du Binghui Ge Chao An Mingliang Tian Feng Yan Sanjun Yang Tianyou Zhai Liang Li 2022Nano Research2022,15,6:1

12A reflective display based on the electro-microfluidic assembly of particles within suppressed water-in-oil droplet array显示文摘Reflective displays have stimulated considerable interest because of their friendly readability and low energy consumption.Herein,we develop a reflective display technique via an electro-microfluidic assembly of particles(eMAP)strategy whereby colored particles assemble into annular and planar structures inside a dyed water droplet to create'open'and'closed'states of a display pixel.Water-in-oil droplets are compressed within microwells to form a pixel array.The particles dispersed in droplets are driven by deformation-strengthened dielectrophoretic force to achieve fast and reversible motion and assemble into multiple structures.This eMAP based device can display designed information in three primary colors with≥170°viewing angle,~0.14 s switching time,and bistability with an optimized material system.This proposed technique demonstrates the basis of a high-performance and energy-saving reflective display,and the display speed and color quality could be further improved by structure and material optimization;exhibiting a potential reflective display technology.Shitao Shen Haoqiang Feng Yueming Deng Shuting Xie Zichuan Yi Mingliang Jin Guofu Zhou Paul Mulvaney Lingling Shui 2023Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,12:0

14Sputtering under Mild Heating Enables High-Quality ITO for Efficient Semi-Transparent Perovskite Solar Cells显示文摘Semi-transparent perovskite solar cells(ST-PSCs)are promising in building-integrated photovoltaics(BIPVs)and tandem solar cells(TSCs).One of the keys to fabricate high-performance ST-PSCs is depositing efficient transparent electrodes.Indium tin oxide(ITO)is an excellent transparent conductive oxide with good light transmittance and high conductivity.However,the high sheet resistance of ITO sputtered at room temperature leads to the low fill factor(FF)and poor power conversion efficiency(PCE)of the ST-PSCs.Here,we study the effect of the sputtering temperature on the properties of ITO and the performance of ST-PSCs.We find that when the sputtering temperature increases from the room temperature to 70℃,the crystallinity of the sputtered ITO gradually improves.Therefore,the sheet resistance decreases and the corresponding device performance improves.However,once the sputtering temperature further increases over 70℃,the underlying hole transport layer will be damaged,leading to poor device performance.Therefore,the optimized mild heating temperature of 70℃is applied and we obtain ST-PSCs with a champion PCE of 15.21%.We believe this mild heating assisted sputtering method is applicable in fabricating BIPVs and TSCs.Yongbin Jin Zheng Fang Liu Yang Kaikai Liu Mingliang Li Yaping Zhao Yujie Luo Huiping Feng Bingru Deng Chengbo Tian Changcai Cui Liqiang Xie Xipeng Xu Zhanhua Wei 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,10:0

16Dipeptides VL increase protein accumulation in C2C12 cells by activating the Akt-mTOR pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB pathway显示文摘The Akt-mTOR signaling pathway plays a central role in regulating intracellular protein metabolism,and the NF-κB signaling pathway plays a vital role in developing skeletal muscle atrophy.In this study,we took the three dipeptides Val-Leu(VL),Leu-Leu(LL),and Leu-Gln(LQ)identified from corn peptides as the research objects and proved that peptides could promote C2C12 cell differentiation and protein synthesis by activating the Akt-mTOR signaling pathway.On the other hand,the dipeptides also inhibited the classical pathway of the NF-κB signaling pathway,down-regulated the expression of two E3 ubiquitin ligases MAFbx and MURF-1,attenuated apoptosis induced by TNF-α,and thus inhibited protein degradation in cells.In conclusion,the dipeptides isolated from corn peptides showed the effect of increasing protein accumulation in skeletal muscle,suggesting the application potential of corn peptides in promoting the growth of skeletal muscle mass.In addition,this experiment compared the different characteristics of the effects of the dipeptide VL and its corresponding amino acid mixture on the Akt-mTOR signaling pathway.Mingliang Li Ying Wei Zhiyuan Feng Muyi Cai Yaguang Xu Ruizeng Gu Yongqing Ma Xingchang Pan 2022Food Bioscience2022,45,1:0

18Targeting TRPV1-mediated autophagy attenuates nitrogen mustard-induced dermal toxicity显示文摘Nitrogen mustard(NM)causes severe vesicating skin injury,which lacks effective targeted therapies.The major limitation is that the specific mechanism of NM-induced skin injury is not well understood.Recently,autophagy has been found to play important roles in physical and chemical exposure-caused cutaneous injuries.However,whether autophagy contributes to NM-induced dermal toxicity is unclear.Herein,we initially confrmed that NM dose-dependently caused cell death and induced autophagy in keratinocytes.Suppression of autophagy by 3-methyladenine,chloroquine,and baflomycin A1 or ATG5 siRNA attenuated NM-induced keratinocyte cell death.Furthermore,NM increased transient receptor potential vanilloid 1(TRPV1)expression,intracellular Ca2+content,and the activities of Car+/calmodulin-dependent kinase kinaseβ(CaMKKB),AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK),unc-51-like kinase 1(ULK1),and mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR).NM-induced autophagy in keratinocytes was abolished by treatment with inhibitors of TRPV1(capsazepine),CaMKKβ(STO-609),AMPK(compound C),and ULK1(SBI-0206965)as well as TRPV1,CaMKKB,and AMPK siRNA transfection.In addition,an mTOR inhibitor(rapamycin)had no signifcant effect on NM-stimulated autophagy or cell death of keratinocytes.Finally,the results of the in vivo experiment in NM-treated skin tissues were consistent with the findings of the in vitro experiment.In conclusion,NM-caused dermal toxicity by overactivating autophagy partially through the activation of TRPV1-Ca2+-CaMKKB-AMPK-ULK1 signaling pathway.These results suggest that blocking TRPV1-dependent autophagy could be a potential treatment strategy for NM-caused cutaneous injury.Mingliang Chen Xunhu Dong Haoyue Deng Feng Ye Yuanpeng Zhao Jin Cheng Guorong Dan Jiqing Zhao Yan Sai Xiuwu Bian Zhongmin Zou 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,2:0

20Brassica rapa orphan genes largely affect soluble sugar metabolism显示文摘Orphan genes(OGs),which are genes unique to a specific taxon,play a vital role in primary metabolism.However,little is known about the functional significance of Brassica rapa OGs(BrOGs)that were identified in our previous study.To study their biological functions,we developed a BrOG overexpression(BrOGOE)mutant library of 43 genes in Arabidopsis thaliana and assessed the phenotypic variation of the plants.We found that 19 of the 43 BrOGOE mutants displayed a mutant phenotype and 42 showed a variable soluble sugar content.One mutant,BrOG1OE,with significantly elevated fructose,glucose,and total sugar contents but a reduced sucrose content,was selected for indepth analysis.BrOG1OE showed reduced expression and activity of the Arabidopsis sucrose synthase gene(AtSUS);however,the activity of invertase was unchanged.In contrast,silencing of two copies of BrOG1 in B.rapa,BraA08002322(BrOG1A)and BraSca000221(BrOG1B),by the use of an efficient CRISPR/Cas9 system of Chinese cabbage(B.rapa ssp.campestris)resulted in decreased fructose,glucose,and total soluble sugar contents because of the upregulation of BrSUS1b,BrSUS3,and,specifically,the BrSUS5 gene in the edited BrOG1 transgenic line.In addition,we observed increased sucrose content and SUS activity in the BrOG1 mutants,with the activity of invertase remaining unchanged.Thus,BrOG1 probably affected soluble sugar metabolism in a SUS-dependent manner.This is the first report investigating the function of BrOGs with respect to soluble sugar metabolism and reinforced the idea that OGs are a valuable resource for nutrient metabolism.Mingliang Jiang Zongxiang Zhan Haiyan Li Xiangshu Dong Feng Cheng Zhongyun Piao 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:0
