| 1 | Serum γ-glutamyltransferase,alanine aminotransferase,and aspartate aminotransferase activity in Iranian healthy blood donor men显示文摘AIM: To determine serum γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity, and to assess their correlation with demographic and clinical findings in healthy blood donors. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was performed in 934 male blood donors, aged 18 to 68 years, who consecutively attended Tehran blood transfusion service in 2006. All participants were seronegative for HBV or HCV infections, non alcohol users, and all underwent a standard interview and anthropometric tests. Clinical and biochemical parameters including AST, ALT, and GGT activities were determined. Patients taking drugs known to cause hepatic fat deposition were excluded. For AST, ALT, and GGT variables, we used 33.33 and 66.66 percentiles, so that each of them was divided into three tertiles. RESULTS: Mean AST, ALT, and GGT activities were 25.26 ± 12.58 U/L (normal range 5-35 U/L), 33.13 ± 22.98 (normal range 5-35 U/L), and 25.11 ± 18.32 (normal range 6-37 U/L), respectively. By univariate analyses, there were significant associations between increasing AST, ALT, or GGT tertiles and age, body weight, body mass index, and waist and hip circumferences (P < 0.05). By multiple linear regression analyses, ALT was found to be positively correlated with dyslipidemia (B = 6.988, P = 0.038), whereas ALT and AST were negatively correlated with age. | 2 | Recent advancements in graphene adsorbents for wastewater treatment:Current status and challenges显示文摘From emerging pollutants to emerged threat,researchers are continuously looking for promising technologies for wastewater treatment.Adsorption has been identified as the most convenient approach for treating wastewater at low-cost and with high-efficiency.Recently,graphene and its derivatives have gained heightened attention as novel adsorbents because of their unique molecular structure and outstanding physicochemical properties.Heavy metals,dyes,polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)and other pollutants,which are widely concerned recently,all show different adsorption behaviors.Numerous functional groups,resonating and delocalizedπ-electron system of graphene derivatives lead to the formation of various adsorptive interactions i.e.,π-πinteractions,electrostatic interactions,Hbonding,etc.with these venomous pollutants,and quarantine them in solution.The pristine form of graphene subsidiaries tends to exhibit low sorption efficiency due to high propensity of agglomeration,lack of selectivity,hydrophobicity and difficulty in phase separation a fter treatment.Therefore,designing of efficient graphene composites through the surface modification with numerous functional groups,polymers or nanoparticles is an ongoing challenge.Complex graphene composites are increasingly reported,but the fate of pollutants and adsorption mechanisms are still far to be fully clarified.This review summarizes the recent progresses in the application of graphene-based adsorbents for eliminating a wide range of organic and inorganic pollutants from wastewater.A critical explanation is provided on the synthesis of graphene adsorbents,systematic adsorption and desorption mechanisms along with their pollutant removal performances under different experimental conditions.A brief perspective on upcoming research needs and challenges involved in the designing of high-quality graphene-based adsorbents are highlighted. | MD Faysal Hossain Nasrin Akther Yanbo Zhou | 2020 | Chinese Chemical Letters2020,31,10: | 6 |
| 3 | Estimation of meteorological drought indices based on AgMERRA precipitation data and station-observed precipitation data显示文摘Meteorological drought is a natural hazard that can occur under all climatic regimes. Monitoring the drought is a vital and important part of predicting and analyzing drought impacts. Because no single index can represent all facets of meteorological drought, we took a multi-index approach for drought monitoring in this study. We assessed the ability of eight precipitation-based drought indices(SPI(Standardized Precipitation Index), PNI(Percent of Normal Index), DI(Deciles index), EDI(Effective drought index), CZI(China-Z index), MCZI(Modified CZI), RAI(Rainfall Anomaly Index), and ZSI(Z-score Index)) calculated from the station-observed precipitation data and the Ag MERRA gridded precipitation data to assess historical drought events during the period 1987–2010 for the Kashafrood Basin of Iran. We also presented the Degree of Dryness Index(DDI) for comparing the intensities of different drought categories in each year of the study period(1987–2010). In general, the correlations among drought indices calculated from the Ag MERRA precipitation data were higher than those derived from the station-observed precipitation data. All indices indicated the most severe droughts for the study period occurred in 2001 and 2008. Regardless of data input source, SPI, PNI, and DI were highly inter-correlated(R^2=0.99). Furthermore, the higher correlations(R^2=0.99) were also found between CZI and MCZI, and between ZSI and RAI. All indices were able to track drought intensity, but EDI and RAI showed higher DDI values compared with the other indices. Based on the strong correlation among drought indices derived from the Ag MERRA precipitation data and from the station-observed precipitation data, we suggest that the Ag MERRA precipitation data can be accepted to fill the gaps existed in the station-observed precipitation data in future studies in Iran. | 5 | Prediction of meteorological drought in arid and semi-arid regions using PDSI and SDSM: a case study in Fars Province, Iran显示文摘Drought is one of the most significant environmental disasters,especially in arid and semi-arid regions.Drought indices as a tool for management practices seeking to deal with the drought phenomenon are widely used around the world.One of these indicators is the Palmer drought severity index(PDSI),which is used in many parts of the world to assess the drought situation and continuation.In this study,the drought state of Fars Province in Iran was evaluated by using the PDSI over 1995-2014 according to meteorological data from six weather stations in the province.A statistical downscaling model(SDSM)was used to apply the output results of the general circulation model in Fars Province.To implement data processing and prediction of climate data,a statistical period 1995-2014 was considered as the monitoring period,and a statistical period 2019-2048 was for the prediction period.The results revealed that there is a good agreement between the simulated precipitation(R2>0.63;R2,determination coefficient;MAE<0.52;MAE,mean absolute error;RMSE<0.56;RMSE,Root Mean Squared Error)and temperature(R2>0.95,MAE<1.74,and RMSE<1.78)with the observed data from the stations.The results of the drought monitoring model presented that dry periods would increase over the next three decades as compared to the historical data.The studies showed the highest drought in the meteorological stations Abadeh and Lar during the prediction period under two future scenarios representative concentration pathways(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5).According to the results of the validation periods and efficiency criteria,we suggest that the SDSM is a proper tool for predicting drought in arid and semi-arid regions. | Sheida DEHGHAN Nasrin SALEHNIA Nasrin SAYARI Bahram BAKHTIARI | 2020 | Journal of Arid Land2020,12,2: | 4 |

| 7 | Preparation of Chitin-PLA laminated composite for implantable application显示文摘The present study explores the possibilities of using locally available inexpensive waste prawn shell derived chitin reinforced and bioabsorbable polylactic acid(PLA)laminated composites to develop new materials with excellent mechanical and thermal properties for implantable application such as in bone or dental implant.Chitin at different concentration(1e20%of PLA)reinforced PLA films(CTP)were fabricated by solvent casting process and laminated chitin-PLA composites(LCTP)were prepared by laminating PLA film(obtained by hot press method)with CTP also by hot press method at 160C.The effect of variation of chitin concentration on the resulting laminated composite's behavior was investigated.The detailed physico-mechanical,surface morphology and thermal were assessed with different characterization technique such as FT-IR,XRD,SEM and TGA.The FTIR spectra showed the characteristic peaks for chitin and PLA in the composites.SEM images showed an excellent dispersion of chitin in the films and composites.Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)showed that the complete degradation of chitin,PLA film,5%chitin reinforced PLA film(CTP2)and LCTP are 98%,95%,87%and 98%respectively at temperature of 500C.The tensile strength of the LCTP was found 25.09 MPa which is significantly higher than pure PLA film(18.55 MPa)and CTP2 film(8.83 MPa).After lamination of pure PLA and CTP2 film,the composite(LCTP)yielded 0.265e1.061%water absorption from 30 min to 24 h immerse in water that is much lower than PLA and CTP.The increased mechanical properties of the laminated films with the increase of chitin content indicated good dispersion of chitin into PLA and strong interfacial actions between the polymer and chitin.The improvement of mechanical properties and the results of antimicrobial and cytotoxicity of the composites also evaluated and revealed the composite would be a suitable candidate for implant application in biomedical sector. | Romana Nasrin Shanta Biswas Taslim Ur Rashid Sanjida Afrin Rumana Akhter Jahan Papia Haque Mohammed Mizanur Rahman | 2017 | Bioactive Materials2017,2,4: | 4 |

| 19 | Non-thermal plasma modified growth and differentiation process of Capsicum annuum PP805 Godiva in in vitro conditions显示文摘With the aim of evaluating the possible impacts of cold plasma on the structure and growth pattern of Capsicum annuum, the current study was carried out. The seeds were exposed to an argon-derived plasma(0.84 W cm^(-2) surface power densities) for 0, 1 or 2 minutes. Plasmatreated seeds were grown in the Murashige and Skoog(MS) medium or MS medium supplemented with BA and IAA. The presence of purple stems was recorded in plasma-treated plants grown in the medium supplemented with hormones. The recorded morphological differences were dependent on the exposure time of plasma treatments and/or the presence of hormones in the culture media. Plasma treatment of 1 minute had an improving effect on the shoot and root lengths as well as total leaf area, whereas plasma treatment of 2 minutes had an adverse effect. In contrast to the 1 minute treatment, plasma treatment of 2 minutes significantly impaired growth and hence reduced the total biomass. Alterations in stem diameter and differences in tissue patterns(especially in the vascular system) occurred, and were mainly dependent on the plasma exposure time and/or the presence of hormones.
