| 1 | Soil biofilms:microbial interactions,challenges,and advanced techniques for ex-situ characterization显示文摘Soil is inhabited by a myriad of microorganisms,many of which can form supracellular structures,called biofilms,comprised of surface-associated microbial cells embedded in hydrated extracellular polymeric substance that facilitates adhesion and survival.Biofilms enable intensive inter-and intra-species interactions that can increase the degradation efficiency of soil organic matter and materials commonly regarded as toxins.Here,we first discuss organization,dynamics and properties of soil biofilms in the context of traditional approaches to probe the soil microbiome.Social interactions among bacteria,such as cooperation and competition,are discussed.We also summarize different biofilm cultivation devices in combination with optics and fluorescence microscopes as well as sequencing techniques for the study of soil biofilms.Microfluidic platforms,which can be applied to mimic the complex soil environment and study microbial behaviors at the microscale with highthroughput screening and novel measurements,are also highlighted.This review aims to highlight soil biofilm research in order to expand the current limited knowledge about soil microbiomes which until now has mostly ignored biofilms as a dominant growth form. | Peng Cai Xiaojie Sun Yichao Wu Chunhui Gao Monika Mortimer Patricia A.Holden Marc Redmile-Gordon Qiaoyun Huang | 2019 | Soil Ecology Letters2019,1,3: | 4 |

| 3 | Soil phyllosilicate and iron oxide inhibit the quorum sensing of Chromobacterium violaceum显示文摘Microorganisms respond to various adverse environmental conditions and regulate different physiological functions by secreting and sensing signal molecules through quorum sensing(QS)systems.Phyllosilicates and iron oxides present in soils and sediments may have substantial impact on bacterial activity and QS due to their unique reactivity and close association with microorganisms.This research explored the effect of goethite,montmorillonite and kaolinite(0.05–2gL^(–1))on the growth and QS of a bacterial model,Chromobacterium violaceum.The results showed that kaolinite and goethite caused cellular damage at low mineral concentrations.The capacity for violacein production and biofilm formation of C.violaceum were inhibited by the minerals in the order of kaolinite>goethite>montmorillonite.The possible underlying mechanisms for QS inhibition by different minerals were investigated.Specifically,kaolinite repressed QS function through downregulation the expression of signal molecules synthesis gene cviI.Goethite and montmorillonite interfered with QS by adsorption of extracellular signal molecules.This work provides a better understanding of the interactions between bacteria and minerals and proposed that the inhibition of QS system is an ignored mechanism for bacterial toxicity by phyllosilicates and iron oxides. | Shanshan Yang Chenchen Qu Manisha Mukherjee Yichao Wu Qiaoyun Huang Peng Cai | 2021 | Soil Ecology Letters2021,3,1: | 2 |

| 7 | Effects of long-term fencing on soil microbial community structure and function in the desert steppe,China显示文摘One of the goals of grazing management in the desert steppe is to improve its ecosystem.However,relatively little is known about soil microbe communities in the desert steppe ecosystem under grazing management.In this study,we investigated the diversity and aboveground biomass of Caragana korshinskii Kom.shrub communities in long-term fencing and grazing areas,combined with an analysis of soil physical-chemical properties and genomics,with the aim of understanding how fence management affects plant-soil-microbial inter-relationships in the desert steppe,China.The results showed that fence management(exclosure)increased plant diversity and aboveground biomass in C.korshinskii shrub area and effectively enhanced soil organic carbon(233.94%),available nitrogen(87.77%),and available phosphorus(53.67%)contents.As well,the Shannon indices of soil bacteria and fungi were greater in the fenced plot.Plant-soil changes profoundly affected the alpha-and beta-diversity of soil bacteria.Fence management also altered the soil microbial community structure,significantly increasing the relative abundances of Acidobacteriota(5.31%-8.99%),Chloroflexi(3.99%-5.58%),and Glomeromycota(1.37%-3.28%).The soil bacterial-fungal co-occurrence networks under fence management had higher complexity and connectivity.Based on functional predictions,fence management significantly increased the relative abundance of bacteria with nitrification and nitrate reduction functions and decreased the relative abundance of bacteria with nitrate and nitrite respiration functions.The relative abundances of ecologically functional fungi with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi,ectomycorrhizal fungi,and saprotrophs also significantly increased under fence management.In addition,the differential functional groups of bacteria and fungi were closely related to plant-soil changes.The results of this study have significant positive implications for the ecological restoration and reconstruction of dry desert steppe and similar areas. | PAN Yaqing KANG Peng QU Xuan RAN Yichao LI Xinrong | 2024 | Journal of Arid Land2024,16,3: | 0 |

| 9 | Zyxin promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression via the activation of AKT/mTOR signaling pathway显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a common malignancy that is driven by multiple genes and pathways.The aim of this study was to investigate the role and specific mechanism of the actin-interacting protein zyxin(ZYX)in HCC.We found that the expression of ZYX was significantly higher in HCC tissues compared to that in normal liver tissues.In addition,overexpression of ZYX in hepatoma cell lines(PLC/PRF/5,HCCLM3)enhanced their proliferation,migration and invasion,whereas ZYX knockdown had the opposite effects(SK HEP-1,Huh-7).Furthermore,the change in the expression levels of ZYX also altered that of proteins related to cell cycle,migration and invasion.Similar results were obtained with xenograft models.The AKT/mTOR signaling pathway is one of the key mediators of cancer development.While ZYX overexpression upregulated the levels of phosphorylated AKT/mTOR proteins,its knockdown had the opposite effect.In addition,the AKT inhibitor MK2206 neutralized the pro-oncogenic effects of ZYX on the HCC cells,whereas the AKT activator SC79 restored the proliferation,migration and invasion of HCC cells with ZYX knockdown.Taken together,ZYX promotes the malignant progression of HCC by activating AKT/mTOR signaling pathway,and is a potential therapeutic target in HCC. | TIANYING CAI JUNJIE BAI PENG TAN ZHIWEI HUANG CHEN LIU ZIMING WU YONGLANG CHENG TONGXI LI YIFAN CHEN JIAN RUAN LIN GAO YICHAO DU WENGUANG FU | 2023 | Oncology Research2023,31,5: | 0 |
| 10 | Growth hormone promotes the reconstruction of injured axons in the hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal system显示文摘Previous studies have shown that growth hormone can regulate hypothalamic energy metabolism, stress, and hormone release. Therefore, growth hormone has great potential for treating hypothalamic injury. In this study, we established a specific hypothalamic axon injury model by inducing hypothalamic pituitary stalk electric lesions in male mice. We then treated mice by intraperitoneal administration of growth hormone. Our results showed that growth hormone increased the expression of insulin-like growth factor 1 and its receptors, and promoted the survival of hypothalamic neurons, axonal regeneration, and vascular reconstruction from the median eminence through the posterior pituitary. Altogether, this alleviated hypothalamic injury-caused central diabetes insipidus and anxiety. | 12 | Clinical Signifi cance of Angiographically Detectable Neovascularity in Patients with Cardiac Myxoma显示文摘Background:Myxomas are the most common primary cardiac tumors.Angiographically detectable neovascularity(ADN)of myxoma is increasingly being reported as a result of the use of coronary angiography(CAG)to detect coronary artery disease.However,the clinical signifi cance of these fi ndings is not fully understood.Methods:We enrolled 59 patients with cardiac myxoma who also underwent CAG between January 2013 and October 2018.Patients were followed up for a mean of 28.9 months(range 1-69 months).The clinical features,echocardiography measurements,pathological examination fi ndings,CAG results,and outcomes during follow-up were compared between patients with ADN and patients without ADN.Results:ADN was found in 25 patients(42.4%).The arteries feeding the ADN included the right coronary artery(n=15),the left circumfl ex coronary artery(n=7),and both arteries(n=3).The patients with ADN had a higher proportion of eosinophils(3.2%vs.2.2%,P=0.03)and higher low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level(2.7 mmol/L vs.2.2 mmol/L,P=0.02).Myxoma pedicles were more likely to be located in the interatrial septum in patients with ADN(96%vs.73.5%,P=0.02).No signifi cant correlation was observed between the groups in clinical manifestations,atrial arrhythmia,myxoma size,cardiac chamber size,left ventricular ejection fraction,and the prevalence of complication with coronary artery disease[16%in the ADN group(n=4)vs.20.6%in the non-ADN group(n=7),P=0.66].However,patients with ADN tended to have a lower incidence of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events on long-term follow-up(0%vs.14.7%,P=0.07).Conclusion:CAG-detected ADN in patients with cardiac myxoma is associated with a borderline lower rate of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events. | Xiaofan Peng Yichao Xiao Yanan Guo Zhaowei Zhu Liyan Liao Xiaobo Liao Xinqun Hu Zhenfei Fang Xuping Li Shenghua Zhou | 2021 | Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications2021,,4: | 0 |
