| 1 | Model evidence for climatic impact of thermohaline circulation on China at the century scale显示文摘Based on transient simulation of the last deglaciation(significant global warming period)using a fully coupled model and sensitivity experiment,we show explicitly how the thermohaline circulation(THC)affects the climate of China,especially during periods of abrupt climate change.The simulated evolution of the Chinese climate was consistent with the paleoclimate record during the last deglaciation.For example,the whole Chinese region warmed significantly during the BФlling-AllerФd warming event(BA).When the magnitude of the THC was reduced in the sensitivity experiment during BA,warming of the Chinese region was greatly affected.Our work shows that in addition to orbital forcing and greenhouse gases,the THC is an important factor influencing climate change in China at the century scale. | CHENG Jun LIU ZhengYu HE Feng GUO PinWen CHEN ZhongXiao OTTO-BLIESNER Bette | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,27: | 6 |
| 2 | Wave-Breaking Features of Blocking over Central Siberia and Its Impacts on the Precipitation Trend over Southeastern Lake Baikal显示文摘Precipitation over southeastern Lake Baikal features a significant decreasing trend in July and August over 1979–2018 and is closely related to blocking occurrence over central Siberia(45°–70°N,75°–115°E).This study investigates the formation and maintenance of anticyclonic and cyclonic wave-breaking(AWB and CWB)blocking events and their climate impacts on precipitation in the southeastern Lake Baikal area.Both AWB and CWB blocking events are characterized by a cold trough deepening from the sub-Arctic region and a ridge amplifying toward its north over central Siberia,as well as an evident Rossby wave train over midlatitude Eurasia.For AWB blocking events,the ridge and trough pair tilts clockwise and the wave train exhibits a zonal distribution.In contrast,ridge and trough pair associated with CWB blocking events leans anticlockwise with larger-scale,meridional,and more anisotropic signatures.Moreover,the incoming Rossby wave energy associated with CWB blocking events is more evident than for AWB blocking events.Therefore,CWB blocking events are more persistent.AWB blocking events produce more extensive and persistent precipitation over the southeastern Lake Baikal area than CWB blocking events,in which moderate above-normal rainfall is seen in the decaying periods of blockings.A significant decreasing trend is found in terms of AWB blocking occurrence over central Siberia,which may contribute to the downward trend of precipitation over southeastern Lake Baikal. | Dorina CHYI Zuowei XIE Ning SHI Pinwen GUO Huijun WANG | 2020 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2020,37,1: | 2 |

| 4 | Reconstructing changes in Atlantic thermohaline circulation during the 20th century under two possible scenarios显示文摘Atlantic thermohaline circulation(THC) is a key component of the Earth Climate System and identification of its changes during the 20th Century is critical to the understanding of its variation characteristics and the corresponding climatic impacts.Previous researches have been inconclusive,with the results varying depending on the approach used to measure THC.The results for the two established approaches for measurement of the phenomenon(direct observation and indirect reconstruction) are contradictive(weakening and non-weakening),and their credibility needs improving.Based on the tight relationship between THC anomaly and 'see-saw' intensities of Sea Surface Temperature(SST) and Surface Air Temperature(SAT),we first diagnose their quantitative relationship in the model experiments,which is corresponding to its two possible scenarios,and then reconstruct the changes of THC during the 20th Century respectively with multiple observed datasets of SST and SAT.Model results show that THC anomaly and SST/SAT 'see-saw' intensities are well correlated in timescales longer than 10/40 years under scenarios of weakening/non-weakening respectively.Two kinds of reconstructions here are consistent with each other,and we propose that THC has undergone a 2-cycle oscillation with inter-decadal scale since the Industrial Revolution with a magnitude of about 1 Sv.The transformation times of decadal trend are around the mid-1910s,the 1940s,and the mid-1970s.This research further validates the main results of previous reconstructions,and points out that THC does not have a long-term weakening during the 20th Century. | CHENG Jun GUO PinWen ZHANG FuYing LIU ZhengYu LIU LinWei QIU WenXian | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,2: | 1 |

| 7 | Impact of the variation of westerly jets over East Asia on precipitation of eastern China in July显示文摘The impact of the northward jump and westward movement of the East Asian westerly jet core from the western Pacific Ocean to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau on precipitation distribution of eastern China is studied. It is concluded that on the one hand, the northward jump of the jet causes the precipitation belt to move northward from the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley and withdraw during the Mei-yu season; on the other hand, the westward movement of the jet core has no correspondence with withdrawal of the Mei-yu season. However, the earlier or later occurrence of the westward movement of the jet has an influence on the process of the rain belt moving northward than the northward jump of the jet: the rain belt moves northward from the middle-lower Yangtze River valley to the Huaihe River and then to an area between the Yellow River and Huaihe River during years when the time of the westward movement of the jet core is later than that of the northward jump of the jet and from the middle-lower Yangtze River valley to an area between the Yellow River and Huaihe River in other years. Further analysis shows that: (1) The northward jump of the jet and the westward movement of the East Asian westerly jet core causes significant variation of the general atmospheric circulation in middle latitudes and water vapor transport from the western Pacific, but not from the Bay of Bengal. (2) Impact of the northward jump and the westward movement of the East Asian westerly jet core on circulation are different, therefore, water vapor transport from the western Pacific and its impact on the rain belt are different.
