Potential and challenges of tannins as an alternative to in-feed antibiotics for farm animal production显示文摘Naturally occurring plant compounds including tannins, saponins and essential oils are extensively assessed as natural alternatives to in-feed antibiotics.Tannins are a group of polyphenolic compounds that are widely present in plant region and possess various biological activities including antimicrobial,anti-parasitic, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, etc. Therefore, tannins are the major research subject in developing natural alternative to in-feed antibiotics.Strong protein affinity is the well-recognized property of plant tannins, which has successfully been applied to ruminant nutrition to decrease protein degradation in the rumen, and thereby improve protein utilization and animal production efficiency.Incorporations of tannin-containing forage in ruminant diets to control animal pasture bloat, intestinal parasite and pathogenic bacteria load are another 3 important applications of tannins in ruminant animals.Tannins have traditionally been regarded as 'anti-nutritional factor' for monogastric animals and poultry, but recent researches have revealed some of them, when applied in appropriate manner, improved intestinal microbial ecosystem, enhanced gut health and hence increased productive performance. The applicability of plant tannins as an alternative to in-feed antibiotics depends on many factors that contribute to the great variability in their observed efficacies. | Qianqian Huang Xiuli Liu Guoqi Zhao Tianming Hu Yuxi Wang | 2018 | Animal Nutrition2018,,2: | 54
Optimization of phenol degradation by Candida tropicalis Z-04 using Plackett-Burman design and response surface methodology显示文摘Statistical experimental designs were used to optimize the process of phenol degradation by Candida tropicalis Z-04,isolated from phenol-degrading aerobic granules. The most important factors influencing phenol degradation (p<0.05),as identified by a two-level Plackett-Burman design with 11 variables, were yeast extract, phenol, inoculum size, and temperature.Steepest ascent method was undertaken to determine the optimal regions of these four significant factors.Central composite design (CCD) and response surface analysis were adopted to further investigate the mutual interactions between these variables and to identify their optimal values that would generate maximum phenol degradation. The analysis results indicated that interactions between yeast extract and temperature, phenol and temperature, inoculum size and temperature affected the response variable (phenol degradation) significantly. The predicted results showed that the maximum removal efficiency of phenol (99.10%) could be obtained under the optimum conditions of yeast extract 0.41 g/L,phenol 1.03 g/L,inoculum size 1.43% (V/V) and temperature 30.04°C.These predicted values were further verified by validation experiments. The excellent correlation between predicted and experimental values confirmed the validity and practicability of this statistical optimum strategy. This study indicated the excellent ability of C.tropicalis Z-04 in degrading high-strength phenol.Optimal conditions obtained in this experiment laid a solid foundation for further use of this microorganism in the treatment of highstrength phenol effluents. | Jiangya Zhou Xiaojuan Yu Cong Ding Zhiping Wang Qianqian Zhou Hao Pao Weimin Ca | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1: | 48
Pollutant concentrations and pollution loads in stormwater runoff from different land uses in Chongqing显示文摘To investigate the distribution of pollutant concentrations and pollution loads in stormwater runoff in Chongqing, six typical land use types were selected and studied from August 2009 to September 2011.Statistical analysis on the distribution of pollutant concentrations in all water samples shows that pollutant concentrations fluctuate greatly in rainfall-runoff,and the concentrations of the same pollutant also vary greatly in different rainfall events. In addition,it indicates that the event mean concentrations (EMCs) of total suspended solids (TSS) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) from urban traffic roads (UTR) are significantly higher than those from residential roads (RR),commercial areas (CA),concrete roofs (CR),tile roofs (TRoof),and campus catchment areas (CCA);and the EMCs of total phosphorus (TP) and NH3-N from UTR and CA are 2.35-5 and 3 times of the class-III standard values specified in the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water (GB 3838-2002).The EMCs of Fe,Pb and Cd are also much higher than the class-III standard values. The analysis of pollution load producing coefficients (PLPC) reveals that the main pollution source of TSS,COD and TP is UTR.The analysis of correlations between rainfall factors and EMCs/PLPC indicates that rainfall duration is correlated with EMCs/PLPC of TSS for TRoof and TP for UTR,while rainfall intensity is correlated with EMCs/PLPC of TP for both CR and CCA.The results of this study provide a reference for better management of non-point source pollution in urban regions. | Shumin Wang Qiang He Hainan Ai Zhentao Wang Qianqian Zhang | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,3: | 33
Sleep and Cognitive Abnormalities in Acute Minor Thalamic Infarction显示文摘In order to characterize sleep and the cognitive patterns in patients with acute minor thalamic infarction(AMTI), we enrolled 27 patients with AMTI and 12 matched healthy individuals. Questionnaires about sleep and cognition as well as polysomnography(PSG) were performed on days 14 and 90 post-stroke. Compared to healthy controls, in patients with AMTI, hyposomnia was more prevalent; sleep architecture was disrupted as indicated by decreased sleep efficiency, increased sleep latency, and decreased non-rapid eye movement sleep stages 2 and 3;more sleep-related breathing disorders occurred; and cognitive functions were worse, especially memory. While sleep apnea and long-delay memory recovered to a large extent in the patients, other sleep and cognitive function deficit often persisted. Patients with AMTI are at an increased risk for hyposomnia, sleep structure disturbance, sleep apnea, and memory deficits. Although these abnormalities improved over time, the slow and incomplete improvement suggest that early management should be considered in these patients. | Wei Wu Linyang Cui Ying Fu Qianqian Tian Lei Liu Xuan Zhang Ning Du Ying Chen Zhijun Qiu Yijun Song Fu-Dong Shi Rong Xue | 2016 | Neuroscience Bulletin2016,32,4: | 28

A promising new class of irradiation tolerant materials:Ti_2ZrHfV_(0.5)Mo_(0.2) high-entropy alloy显示文摘Recently, high-entropy alloys(HEAs) or multi-principal-element alloys with unprecedented physical, chemical, and mechanical properties, have been considered as candidate materials used in advanced reactors due to their promising irradiation resistant behavior. Here, we report a new single-phase bodycentered cubic(BCC) structured Ti_2 ZrHfV_(0.5)Mo_(0.2) HEA possessing excellent irradiation resistance, i.e.,scarcely irradiation hardening and abnormal lattice constant reduction after helium-ion irradiation, which is completely different from conventional alloys. This is the first time to report the abnormal XRD phenomenon of metallic alloys and almost no hardening after irradiation. These excellent properties make it to be a potential candidate material used as core components in next-generation nuclear reactors. The particular irradiation tolerance derives from high density lattice vacancies/defects. | Yiping Lu Hefei Huang Xuzhou Gao Cuilan Ren Jie Gao Huanzhi Zhang Shijian Zheng Qianqian Jin Yonghao Zhao Chenyang Lu Tongmin Wang Tingju Li | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,3: | 23
Characterization of the Rice Floral Organ Number Mutantfon3显示文摘A spontaneous rice mutant named floral organ number 3 (fon3) had major mutations in floral organ numbers. Genetic analysis indicated thatfon3 acted as a single recessive gene. Microscopic observation showed that the number of floral organs infon3 increased centripetally. For example, the number of pistils was the more frequently increased than organs in the outer whorls. Homeotic conversion of lodicules and glumes into palea/lemma-like organs was observed in some flowers. Scanning electron microscopy observation showed that the size of flower meristems was maintained the same or similar until the lemma primordium started to differentiate, at which time the floral meristem became enlarged, suggesting abnormal development of the inner whorls of rice florets. The relationship offon3 with other similar rice mutants is discussed. | LiJIANG QianQIAN LongMAO Qing-YuanZHOU Wen-XueZHAI | 2005 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2005,47,1: | 21
Comparison of Chlorophyll and Photosynthesis Parameters of Floating and Attached Ulva prolifera显示文摘In mid-May 2008 a serious green tide caused mainly by floating Ulva prolifera(Mller) J.Agardh(Chlorophyta,Ulvales) thalli struck the coastal area of Qingdao,China. To understand the present physiological conditions of the floating alga,in this work both laboratory and field investigations were conducted on the floating U.prolifera thalli in comparison with the attached U.prolifera thalli collected from the area. The floating thalli of three distinctively different colors and attached thalli at three different stages of sporangium formation process were characterized under a microscope, while their photosynthetic parameters were determined with chlorophyll fluorescence technology. On the other hand, the sporangium formation status of the floating U.prolifera thalli was surveyed both in the laboratory and in the field.Comparisons showed that both of the paired morphological characteristics and the paired physiological parameters of the floating and attached U.prolifera thalli were consistent.Furthermore, some spores were confirmed in the field and some motile particles were found within the floating thalli. These results suggest that the floating U.prolifera thalli with different colors could be at different stages of sporangium formation. However, our results also showed that the floating alga thalli have only a limited reproductive potential. This might limit the duration and the further geographic expansion of the green algal bloom. | Apeng Lin Songdong Shen Guangce Wang Qianqian Yi Hongjin Qiao Jianfeng Niu Guanghua Pan | 2011 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2011,53,1: | 20
The rice OsV4 encoding a novel pentatricopeptide repeat protein is required for chloroplast development during the early leaf stage under cold stress显示文摘Pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR)proteins, characterized by tandem arrays of a 35 amino acid motif, have been suggested to play central and broad roles in modulating the expression of organelle genes in plants. However, the molecular mechanisms of most rice PPR genes remains unclear. In this paper,we isolated and characterized a temperature-conditional virescent mutant,OsV4,in rice(Oryza sativa cultivar Jiahua1(WT,japonica rice variety)).The mutant displays albino phenotype and abnormal chloroplasts at the three leaf stage, which gradually turns green after the four leaf stage at a low temperature(20°C).But the mutant always develops green leaves and well-developed chloroplasts at a high temperature(32°C).Genetic and molecular analyses uncovered that OsV4 encodes a novel chloroplast-targeted PPR protein including four PPR motifs.Further investigations show that the mutant phenotype is associated with changes in chlorophyll content and chloroplast development. The OsV4transcripts only accumulate to high levels in young leaves, indicating that its expression is tissue-specific.In addition, transcript levels of some ribosomal components and plastid-encoded polymerase-dependent genes are dramatically reduced in the albino mutants grown at 20°C.These findings suggest that OsV4 plays an important role during early chloroplast development under cold stress in rice. | Xiaodi Gong Qianqian Su Dongzhi Lin Quan Jiang Jianlong Xu Jianhui Zhang Sheng Teng Yanjun Dong | 2014 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2014,56,4: | 19
The Auxin-Regulated Protein ZmAuxRPI Coordinates the Balance between Root Growth and Stalk Rot Disease Resistance in Maize显示文摘To optimize fitness, plants must efficiently allocate their resources between growth and defense. Although phytohormone crosstalk has emerged as a major player in balancing growth and defense, the genetic basis by which plants man age this balance remai ns elusive. We previously ide ntified a quantitative disease . resistance locus, qRfg2, in maize (Zea mays) that protects against the fungal disease Gibberella stalk rot. Here, through map-based cloning, we demonstrate that the causal gene at qRfg2 is ZmAuxRPI, which encodes a plastid stroma-localized auxin-regulated protein. ZmAuxRPI responded quickly to pathogen challenge with a rapid yet transient reduction in expression that led to arrested root growth but enhanced resista nee to Gibberella stalk rot and Fusarium ear rot. ZmAuxRPI was show n to promote the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), while suppressing the formation of benzoxazinoid defense compounds. ZmAuxRPI presumably acts as a resource regulator modulating indole-3-glycerol phosphate and/or indole flux at the branch point between the IAA and benzoxazinoid biosynthetic pathways. The concerted interplay between IAA and benzoxazinoids can regulate the growth-defense balance in a timely and efficient manner to optimize plant fitness. | Jianrong Ye Tao Zhong Dongfeng Zhang Chuanyu Ma Lina Wang Lishan Yao Qianqian Zhang Mang Zhu Mingliang Xu | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,3: | 19
BMAL1 regulates mitochondrial fission and mitophagy through mitochondrial protein BNIP3 and is critical in the development of dilated cardiomyopathy显示文摘Dysregulation of circadian rhythms associates with cardiovascular disorders. It is known that deletion of the core circadian gene Bma/1 in mice causes dilated car-diomyopathy.However,the biological rhythm regulation system in mouse is very different from that of humans.Whether BMAL1 plays a role in regulating human heart function remains unclear. Here we generated a BMAL1 knockout human embryonic stem cell(hESC)model and further derived human BMAL1 deficient cardiomy-ocytes.We show that BMAL1 deficient hESC-derived cardiomyocytes exhibited typical phenotypes of dilated cardiomyopathy including attenuated contractility,cal-cium dysregulation, and disorganized myofilaments. In addition, mitochondrial fission and mitophagy were suppressed in BMAL1 deficient hESC-cardiomyocytes,which resulted in significantly attenuated mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and compromised cardiomy-ocyte function. We also found that BMAL1 binds to the E-box element in the promoter region of BNIP3 gene and specifically controls BNIP3 protein expression.BMAL1 knockout directly reduced BNIP3 protein level, causing compromised mitophagy and mitochondria dysfunction and thereby leading to compromised cardiomyocyte function. Our data indicated that the core circadian gene S/VMLf is critical for normal mitochondria activities and cardiac function.Circadian rhythm disruption may directly link to compromised heart function and dilated cardiomyopathy in humans. | Ermin Li Xiuya Li Jie Huang Chen Xu Qianqian Liang Kehan Ren Aobing Bai Chao Lu Ruizhe Qian Ning Sun | 2020 | Protein & Cell2020,11,9: | 17
Attribution of PM_(2.5) exposure in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to emissions:implication to control strategies显示文摘The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) region is one of the most heavily polluted regions in China, with both high PM_(2.5) concentrations and a high population density.A quantitative source-receptor relationship can provide valuable insights that can inform effective emission control strategies. Both source apportionment(SA) and source sensitivity(SS) can provide such information from different perspectives. In this study, both methods are applied in northern China to identify the most significant emission categories and source regions for PM_(2.5) exposure in BTH in 2013.Despite their differences, both models show similar distribution patterns for population and simulated PM_(2.5) concentrations, resulting in overall high PM_(2.5) exposure values(approximately 110 μg/m~) and particularly high exposure values during the winter(approximately 200 μ/m~).Both methods show that local emissions play a dominant role(70%),with some contribution from surrounding provinces(e.g.,Shandong) via regional transport. The two methods also agree on the priority of local emission controls:both identify industrial, residential, and agricultural emissions as the top three categories that should be controlled locally. In addition, the effect of controlling agricultural ammonia emissions is approximately doubled when the co-benefits of reducing nitrate are considered. The synthesis of SA and SS for addressing specific categories of emissions provides a quantitative basis for the development of emission control strategies and policies for controlling PM_(2.5)in China. | Xin Li Qiang Zhang Yang Zhang Lin Zhang Yuxuan Wang Qianqian Zhang Meng Li Yixuan Zheng Guannan Geng Timothy J.Wallington Weijian Han Wei Shen Kebin He | 2017 | Science Bulletin2017,62,13: | 15

The potential mechanism, recognition and clinical significance of tumor pseudoprogression after immunotherapy显示文摘As immunotherapy has gained increasing interest as a new foundation for cancer therapy, some atypical response patterns, such as pseudoprogression and hyperprogression, have garnered the attention of physicians.Pseudoprogression is a phenomenon in which an initial increase in tumor size is observed or new lesions appear, followed by a decrease in tumor burden;this phenomenon can benefit patients receiving immunotherapy but often leads to premature discontinuation of treatment owing to the false judgment of progression.Accurately recognizing pseudoprogression is also a challenge for physicians.Because of the extensive attention on pseudoprogression, significant progress has been made. Some new criteria for immunotherapy, such as irRC,iRECIST and imRECIST,were proposed to accurately evaluate the response to immunotherapy. Many new detection indexes, such as ctDNA and IL-8,have also been used to identify pseudoprogression. In this review, the definition, evaluation criteria, mechanism, monitoring, management and prognosis of pseudoprogression are summarized, and diagnostic and treatment processes for patients with progression but with a suspicion of pseudoprogression are proposed;these processes could be helpful for physicians in clinical practice and enhances the understanding of pseudoprogression. | Wenxiao Jia Qianqian Gao Anqin Han Hui Zhu Jinming Yu | 2019 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2019,16,4: | 14
Preparation of activated carbon from cattail and its application for dyes removal显示文摘Activated carbon was prepared from cattail by H3PO4 activation. The effects influencing the surface area of the resulting activated carbon followed the sequence of activated temperature > activated time > impregnation ratio > impregnation time. The optimum condition was found at an impregnation ratio of 2.5, an impregnation time of 9 hr, an activated temperature of 500°C, and an activated time of 80 min. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and average pore size of the activated carbon were 1279 m2/g and 5.585 nm, respectively. A heterogeneous structure in terms of both size and shape was highly developed and widely distributed on the carbon surface. Some groups containing oxygen and phosphorus were formed, and the carboxyl group was the major oxygen-containing functional group. An isotherm equilibrium study was carried out to investigate the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon. The data fit the Langmuir isotherm equation, with maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of 192.30 mg/g for Neutral Red and 196.08 mg/g for Malachite Green. Dye-exhausted carbon could be regenerated effectively by thermal treatment. The results indicated that cattail-derived activated carbon was a promising adsorbent for the removal of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions. | Qianqian Shi Jian Zhang Chenglu Zhang Cong Li Bo Zhang Weiwei Hu Jingtao Xu Ran Zhao | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,1: | 13

Three-dimensional bioprinting of multicell-laden scaffolds containing bone morphogenic protein-4 for promoting M2 macrophage polarization and accelerating bone defect repair in diabetes mellitus显示文摘Critical-sized bone defect repair in patients with diabetes mellitus remains a challenge in clinical treatment because of dysfunction of macrophage polarization and the inflammatory microenvironment in the bone defect region.Three-dimensional(3D)bioprinted scaffolds loaded with live cells and bioactive factors can improve cell viability and the inflammatory microenvironment and further accelerating bone repair. Here,we used modified bioinks comprising gelatin, gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA),and 4-arm poly(ethylene glycol)acrylate(PEG)to fabricate 3D bioprinted scaffolds containing BMSCs,RAW264.7 macrophages, and BMP-4-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MSNs).Addition of MSNs effectively improved the mechanical strength of GelMA/gelatin/PEG scaffolds. Moreover,MSNs sustainably released BMP-4 for long-term effectiveness. In 3D bioprinted scaffolds,BMP-4 promoted the polarization of RAW264.7 to M2 macrophages, which secrete anti-inflammatory factors and thereby reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory factors.BMP-4 released from MSNs and BMP-2 secreted from M2 macrophages collectively stimulated the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs in the 3D bioprinted scaffolds.Furthermore,in calvarial critical-size defect models of diabetic rats,3D bioprinted scaffolds loaded with MSNs/BMP-4 induced M2 macrophage polarization and improved the inflammatory microenvironment. And 3D bioprinted scaffolds with MSNs/BMP-4,BMSCs,and RAW264.7 cells significantly accelerated bone repair. In conclusion, our results indicated that implanting 3D bioprinted scaffolds containing MSNs/BMP-4,BMSCs,and RAW264.7 cells in bone defects may be an effective method for improving diabetic bone repair, owing to the direct effects of BMP-4 on promoting osteogenesis of BMSCs and regulating M2 type macrophage polarization to improve the inflammatory microenvironment and secrete BMP-2. | Xin Sun Zhenjiang Ma Xue Zhao Wenjie Jin Chenyu Zhang Jie Ma Lei Qiang Wenhao Wang Qian Deng Han Yang Jinzhong Zhao Qianqian Liang Xiaojun Zhou Tao Li Jinwu Wang | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,3: | 12
Investigation on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys with various Zn/Mg ratios显示文摘The effects of Zn/Mg ratios on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys aged at 150℃have been investigated by using tensile tests, optical metallography, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography analyses. With increasing Zn/Mg ratios, the ageing process is significantly accelerated and the time to peak ageing is reduced.T’phase predominates in alloys of lower Zn/Mg ratios whileη’phase predominates in alloys with a Zn/Mg ratio over 2.86.Co-existence of T’phase andη’phase with a large number density is beneficial to the high strength of alloys.Such precipitates together with narrow precipitate free zones cause a brittle intergranular fracture.A strength model has been established to predict the co-strengthening effect of T’phase andη’phase in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys, including the factors of the grain boundary, solid solution and precipitation. | Yan Zou Xiaodong Wu Songbai Tang Qianqian Zhu Hui Song Mingxing Guo Lingfei Cao | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,26: | 12
Environmentally Friendly and Multifunctional Shaddock Peel-Based Carbon Aerogel for Thermal-Insulation and Microwave Absorption显示文摘Eco-friendly electromagnetic wave absorbing materials with excellent thermal infrared stealth property,heat-insulating ability and compression resistance are highly attractive in practical applications.Meeting the aforesaid requirements simultaneously is a formidable challenge.Herein,ultra-light carbon aerogels were fabricated via fresh shaddock peel by facile freeze-drying method and calcination process, forming porous network architecture. With the heating platform temperature of 70℃,the upper surface temperatures of the as-prepared carbon aerogel present a slow upward trend. The color of the sample surface in thermal infrared images is similar to that of the surroundings. With the maximum compressive stress of 2.435 kPa,the carbon aerogels can provide favorable endurance. The shaddock peel-based carbon aerogels possess the minimum reflection loss value(RLmin)of−29.50 dB in X band.Meanwhile, the effective absorption bandwidth covers 5.80 GHz at a relatively thin thickness of only 1.7 mm.With the detection theta of 0°,the maximum radar cross-sectional(RCS)reduction values of 16.28 dB m^(2) can be achieved.Theoretical simulations of RCS have aroused extensive interest owing to their ingenious design and time-saving feature. This work paves the way for preparing multi-functional microwave absorbers derived from biomass raw materials under the guidance of RCS simulations. | Weihua Gu Jiaqi Sheng Qianqian Huang Gehuan Wang Jiabin Chen Guangbin Ji | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,7: | 11
