Constraints of (U-Th)/He ages on early Paleozoic tectonothermal evolution of the Tarim Basin,China显示文摘The thermal evolution of source rocks in the Paleozoic stratigraphic sequences has been an outstanding problem for petroleum exploration in the Tarim Basin, as the thermal history of the Paleozoic could not be reconstructed objectively due to the lack of effective thermal indicators in the early Paleozoic carbonate successions. The (U-Th)/He thermochronometry of apatite and zircon has recently been used as an effective tool to study the structural uplift and thermal history of sedimentary basins. The Paleozoic tectonothermal histories of two typical wells in the Tarim Basin were modeled using the thermal indicators of (U-Th)/He, apatite fission track (AFT), and vitrinite reflectance (Ro) data in this paper. The Paleozoic strata in the two wells were shallow due to persistent uplift and significant erosion during the Hercynian tectonic events (from Devonian to Triassic). Therefore, the paleothermal indicators in the Paleozoic strata may retain the original thermal evolution and can be used to re- construct the Paleozoic thermal history of the Tarim Basin. The apatite and zircon helium ages from core and cuttings samples were analyzed and the Paleozoic thermal histories of wells KQ1 and T1 were modeled by combining helium ages, AFT, and equivalence vitrinite reflectance (VRo) data. The modeling results show that the geothermal gradient evolution is different in the Kongquehe Slop and Bachu Uplift of Tarim Basin during the Paleozoic. The thermal gradient in Well T1 on the Bachu Up- lift was only 28–30°C/km in Cambrian, and it increased to 30–33°C/km in Ordovician and 31–34°C/km during the Silurian and Devonian. The thermal gradient of Ordovician in Well KQ1 on the Kongquehe Slope was 35°C/km and decreased to 32–35°C/km during the Silurian and Devonian. Therefore, the combined use of (U-Th)/He ages and other thermal indicators appears to be useful in reconstructing the basin thermal history and provides new insight into the understanding of the early Paleozoic thermal history of the Tarim Basin.QIU NanSheng WANG JiYang MEI QingHua JIANG Guang TAO Cheng 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,7:22
Present Geothermal Fields of the Dongpu Sag in the Bohai Bay Basin显示文摘The Dongpu sag is located in the south of the Bohai Bay basin, China, and has abundant oil and gas reserves. To date, there has been no systematic documentation of its geothermal fields. This study measured the rock thermal conductivity of 324 cores from 47 wells, and calculated rock thermal conductivity for different formations. The geothermal gradient and terrestrial heat flow were calculated for 192 wells on basis of 892 formation-testing data from 523 wells. The results show that the Dongpu sag is characterized by a medium-temperature geothermal field between stable and active tectonic areas, with an average geothermal gradient of 32.0°C/km and terrestrial heat flow of 65.6 mW/m2. The geothermal fields in the Dongpu sag is significantly controlled by the Changyuan, Yellow River, and Lanliao basement faults. They developed in the Paleogene and the Dongying movement occurred at the Dongying Formation depositional period. The geothermal fields distribution has a similar characteristic to the tectonic framework of the Dongpu sag, namely two subsags, one uplift, one steep slope and one gentle slope. The oil and gas distribution is closely associated with the present geothermal fields. The work may provide constraints for reconstructing the thermal history and modeling source rock maturation evolution in the Dongpu sag.ZUO Yinhui QIU Nansheng HAO Qingqing ZHANG Yunxian PANG Xiongqi LI Zhongchao GAO Xia 2014Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2014,88,3:9
Thermal history of the Sichuan Basin,SW China:Evidence from deep boreholes显示文摘The Sichuan Basin is a superimposition basin composed of terrestrial and marine sediments that is well known for its abundant petroleum resources. Thermal history reconstruction using paleogeothermal indicators, including vitrinite reflectance and thermochronological data, shows that different structural subsections of the Sichuan Basin have experienced various paleogeothermal episodes since the Paleozoic. The lower structural subsection comprising the Lower Paleozoic to Middle Permian(Pz–P_2) successions experienced a high paleogeothermal gradient(23.0–42.6°C/km) at the end of the Middle Permian(P_2), whereas the upper structural subsection comprising Late Permian to Mesozoic strata underwent a relatively lower paleogeothermal gradient(13.2–26.9°C/km) at the beginning of the denudation(Late Cretaceous or Paleocene in the different regions). During the denudation period, the Sichuan Basin experienced a successive cooling episode. The high paleogeothermal gradient resulted from an intensive thermal event correlated to the Emeishan mantle plume. The heat flow value reached 124.0 m W/m^2 in the southwestern basin near the center of the Emeishan large igneous province. The low geothermal gradient episode with heat flow ranging from 31.2 to 70.0 m W/m^2 may be related to the foreland basin evolution. The cooling event is a result of the continuous uplift and denudation of the basin.ZHU Chuan Qing HU ShengBiao QIU NanSheng RAO Song YUAN YuSong 2016Science China Earth Sciences2016,59,1:9
Closure temperature of(U-Th)/He system in apatite obtained from natural drillhole samples in the Tarim basin and its geological significance显示文摘The apatite(U-Th)/He thermochronometry has been used to study the tectono-thermal evolution of mountains and sedimentary basins for over ten years. The closure temperature of helium is important for the apatite(U-Th)/He thermochronometry and has been widely studied by thermal simulation experiments. In this paper, the apatite He closure temperature was studied by establishing the evolutionary pattern between apatite He ages and apatite burial depth based on examined apatite He ages of natural samples obtained from drillholes in the Tarim basin,China. The study showed that the apatite He closure temperature of natural samples in the Tarim basin is approximately 88±5℃,higher than the result(~75℃) obtained from the thermal simulation experiments. The high He closure temperature resulted from high effective uranium concentration,long-term radiation damage accumulation, and sufficient particle radii. This study is a reevaluation of the conventional apatite He closure temperature and has a great significance in studying the uplifting events in the late period of the basin-mountain tectonic evolution,of which the uplifting time and rates can be determined accurately.CHANG Jian QIU NanSheng 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,26:8
Meso–Cenozoic Tectono-Thermal Evolution History in Bohai Bay Basin, North China显示文摘The thermal history of sedimentary basins is a key factor for hydrocarbon accumulation and resource assessment, and is critical in the exploration of lithospheric tectono-thermal evolution. In this paper, the Cenozoic thermal histories of nearly 200 wells and the Mesozoic thermal histories of 15 wells are modeled based on the vitrinite reflectance and apatite fission track data in Bohai Bay Basin, North China. The results show that the basin experienced Early Cretaceous and Paleogene heat flow peaks, which reveals two strong rift tectonic movements that occurred in the Cretaceous and the Paleogene in the basin, respectively. The thermal evolution history in Bohai Bay Basin can be divided into five stages including(1) the low and stable heat flow stage from the Triassic to the Jurassic, with the heat flow of 53 to 58 m W/m2;(2) the first heat flow peak from the Early Cretaceous to the middle of the Late Cretaceous, with a maximum heat flow of 81 to 87 m W/m2;(3) the first post-rift thermal subsidence stage from the middle of the Late Cretaceous to the Paleocene, with the heat flow of 65 to 74 m W/m2 at the end of the Cretaceous;(4) the second heat flow peak from the Eocene to the Oligocene, with a maximum heat flow of 81 to 88 m W/m2; and(5) the second thermal subsidence stage from the Neogene to present, with an average heat flow of 64 m W/m2.Yinhui Zuo Nansheng Qiu Jiawei Li Qingqing Hao Xiongqi Pang Zhongying Zhao Qi Zhu 2015Journal of Earth Science2015,26,3:6
Boiling process of low temperature formation water in petroleum system, Qaidam Basin显示文摘FOLLOWING the study of Roedder et al., boiling fluid inclusions are identified in oil reservoir ofQaidam Basin. This paper reports the general characteristics of the boiling fluid inclusions, analyzes theconditions for the formation water to boil at low temperature, and discusses the relation between the boiling process and the oil/gas accumulation. 1 General features Boiling fluid inclusions are minute records of the immiscibility process of subterranean hydrothermalfluids, which are generally composed of different types trapped simultaneously. They are observed mostlyin magmatic hydrothermal mineral deposits. In sedimentary basins, the boiling process was only found inMVT. 7Meso-Cenozoic lithospheric thermal structure in the Bohai Bay Basin, eastern North China Craton显示文摘The Bohai Bay Basin is a region where part of the North China Craton has been thinned and destroyed. It has experienced two periods of crustal thinning that occurred during the Cretaceous and Paleogene, but investigations of its Mesozoic and Cenozoic lithospheric thermal structure are limited. Therefore, in this study, the distributions of mantle heat flow, crustal heat flow, and Moho temperatures during the Meso-Cenozoic are calculated based on analyses of the thermal history of the Bohai Bay Basin. The results indicate that the ratio of mantle heat flow to surface heat flow peaked during the late stages of the early Cretaceous and during the middle to late Paleogene. The corresponding mantle heat flow was more than 65% of the surface heat flow. Moho temperatures reached three peaks: 900-1100℃ in the late stages of the early Cretaceous;820-900℃ in the middle to late Paleogene; and(in the Linqing Depression, Cangxian Uplift, and Jizhong Depression) 770-810℃ during the early Neogene. These results reveal that the Bohai Bay Basin experienced significant geological change during the Cretaceous, including the transformation of lithospheric thermal structure from 'cold mantle and hot crust' before the Cretaceous to 'hot mantle and cold crust' after the Cretaceous. The results also indicate that the basin experienced two large-scale rifting events. Therefore, this work may provide the thermal parameters for further investigations of the geodynamic evolution of eastern China.Zongxing Li Yinhui Zuo Nansheng Qiu Jun Gao 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,5:4
Paleogeothermal Reconstruction and Thermal Evolution Modeling of Source Rocks in the Puguang Gas Field, Northeastern Sichuan Basin显示文摘The thermal history and organic matter maturity evolution of the source rocks of boreholes in the Puguang gas field were reconstructed. An integrated approach based on vitrinite reflectance and apatite fission track data was used in the reconstruction. Accordingly, the geothermal conditions of gas accumulation were discussed in terms of the geological features of reservoirs in the northeastern Sichuan Basin. The strata reached their maximum burial depth in the Late Cretaceous era and were then uplifted and denuded continuously to the present day. The geothermal gradient and heat flow in the Late Cretaceous era were approximately 30.0 °C/km and 66 mW/m^2, respectively, which were both higher than those at present. The tectonothermal evolution from the Late Cretaceous era to the present is characterized by denudation and cooling processes with an erosion thickness of ~2.7 km. In addition to the Triassic era, the Jurassic era represents an important hydrocarbon generation period for both Silurian and Permian source rocks, and the organic matter maturity of these source rocks entered into a dry gas period after oil generation. The thermal conditions are advantageous to the accumulation of conventional and unconventional gas because the hydrocarbon generation process of the source rocks occurs after the formation of an effective reservoir cap. In particular, the high geothermal gradient and increasing temperature before the denudation in the Late Cretaceous era facilitated the generation of hydrocarbons, and the subsequent cooling process favored its storage.Chuanqing Zhu Nansheng Qiu Huanyu Cao Song Rao Shengbiao Hu 2016Journal of Earth Science2016,27,5:4

Combination and superimposition of source kitchens and their effects on hydrocarbon accumulation in the hinterland of the Junggar Basin, west China显示文摘In the hinterland of the Junggar Basin, there are multiple depressions with multiple sets of source rocks. Therefore, the conditions of hydrocarbon sources are complex, and the geochemical characteristics and sources of hydrocarbon vary in different structural belts. The evolution of the Che-Mo palaeohigh affected the formation of hydrocarbon source kitchens and hydrocarbon migration. We studied the combination and superimposition of hydrocarbon source kitchens, using as an example the hinterland of the Junggar Basin(including the Yongjin,Zhengshacun,Moxizhuang and Luliang uplift areas) . The study was based on geochemical analyses of crude oil and fluid inclusions, and the histories of tectonic evolution and hydrocarbon generation. The results indicated that before the Paleogene there were two hydrocarbon-generating depressions:the Western Well Pen1 depression and the Changji depression on the south and north sides of the Che-Mo palaeohigh, respectively. The Permian source kitchen had been generating hydrocarbon continuously since Triassic and reached high maturity stage in the Cretaceous period. After Paleogene, the adjustment of the Che-Mo palaeohigh led to the subsidence of the Changji depression and the Jurassic source rocks reached mature stage and became the main source kitchens. However, the Jurassic source rocks in the Western Well Pen1 depression were still in a low maturity stage and did not generate oil because of the adjustment of tectonic movements. As a result,in the central and southern parts of the Junggar Basin,Jurassic source rocks generated oil,but in the Luliang uplift, the crude oil was from the Permian source rocks in the Western Well Pen1 depression and the Jurassic source rocks did not contribute. The crude oil in the central Zhengshacun-Moxizhuang belt was from the Permian source rocks in two depressions, and partially from the Jurassic source rocks. The crude oil in the Luliang uplift was from the source rocks of the lower Permian Fengcheng Formation and middle Permian Wuerhe Formation, which is characterized by superimposition of two sets of source kitchens and three accumulation stages. The crude oil in the Yongjin tectonic belt was from the lower Permian, middle Permian and Jurassic source rocks, which is characterized by superimposition of three sets of source kitchens and two accumulation stages. The crude oil in the Zhengshacun tectonic belt was from a combination of source kitchens of lower Permian and middle Permian in the Western Well Pen1 depression in the early stage and from the superimposition of Jurassic source rocks in the Changji depression in the late stage.Zhang Zhihuan Qin Liming Qiu Nansheng Zhong Ningning Zhang Zhenying Li Wei 2010Petroleum Science2010,7,1:2

Thermal Annealing Characteristics of Detrital Zircon Fission Track Obtained from Natural Borehole Samples显示文摘Previous studies proposed thermal simulation experiment to investigate the annealing characteristics of fission tracks in igneous zircon samples. However, basic research about detrital zircon fission track was relatively weak. This study discussed the initial track length, annealing temperature and annealing model of zircon fission track by using the measured track lengths obtained from natural borehole samples in the sedimentary basins with different thermal background. The results show that the initial track length of zircon fission track is 12.97 μm.The total annealing temperature(Ttotal) of zircon fission track derived from the evolutionary curve of the mean track lengths is approximately 400 ℃.The temperature ranges of 120-230 ℃ corresponds to the partial annealing zone(PAZ),and is lower than the range obtained through thermal annealing experiments. The annealing model is modified based on the measured track lengths. In addition,a functional formula about the mean track length, annealing temperature, and geological time is proposed, and the fitted values of track lengths consist with the measured track lengths in this study.By properly understanding the initial track length and annealing behavior of zircon fission track can provide a significant guidance for the study of hydrocarbon accumulation in sedimentary basins.Chang'e Cai Nansheng Qiu Jian Chang Cleber Jose Soares Hong Chen 2022Journal of Earth Science2022,33,1:1

Relationship between Permian volcanic rocks distribution and karst paleogeomorphology of Maokou Formation and its significance for petroleum exploration in western Sichuan Basin, SW China显示文摘Based on outcrop, drilling, logging, geochemical analysis and seismic data, the karst landform and distribution of Permian volcanic rocks at the end of the sedimentary period of the Maokou Formation in the western Sichuan Basin are examined, and their petroleum geological significance is discussed. Affected by normal faults formed in the early magmatic activities and extension tectonic background in the late sedimentary period of the Maokou Formation, a local karst shallow depression under the background of karst slope came up in the Jianyang area of the western Sichuan Basin, where the residual thickness of the Maokou Formation was thinner. Basic volcanic rocks like pyroclastic rock of eruptive facies, basalt of overflow facies, diabase porphyrite of intrusive facies and sedimentary tuff of volcanic sedimentary facies were formed after karstification. However, under the effects of faulting and karst paleogeomorphology, the volcanic rocks in different areas had different accumulation features. In the Jianyang area, with long eruption time, the volcanic rocks were thick and complex in lithology, and accumulated in the karst depressions. In the Zhongjiang-Santai area located in the karst slope, there’s no fault developed, only thin layers of basalt and sedimentary tuff turned up. The karst landform controls the build-up of thick explosive facies volcanic rocks and also the development of karst reservoirs in the Maokou Formation, and the western Sichuan area has oil and gas exploration potential in volcanic rocks and the Maokou Formation.LIU Ran LUO Bing LI Ya QIU Nansheng WANG Wei ZHANG Yu HE Qinglin PEI Senqi 2021Petroleum Exploration and Development2021,48,3:1
