| 1 | 2021:A Year of Unprecedented Climate Extremes in Eastern Asia,North America,and Europe显示文摘The year 2021 was recorded as the 6th warmest since 1880.In addition to large-scale warming,2021 will be remembered for its unprecedented climate extremes.Here,a review of selected high-impact climate extremes in 2021,with a focus on China,along with an extension to extreme events in North America and Europe is presented.Nine extreme events that occurred in 2021 in China are highlighted,including a rapid transition from cold to warm extremes and sandstorms in spring,consecutive drought in South China and severe thunderstorms in eastern China in the first half of the year,extremely heavy rainfall over Henan Province and Hubei Province during summer,as well as heatwaves,persistent heavy rainfall,and a cold surge during fall.Potential links of extremes in China to four global-scale climate extremes and the underlying physical mechanisms are discussed here,providing insights to understand climate extremes from a global perspective.This serves as a reference for climate event attribution,process understanding,and high-resolution modeling of extreme events. | Tianjun ZHOU Wenxia ZHANG Lixia ZHANG Robin CLARK Cheng QIAN Qinghong ZHANG Hui QIU Jie JIANG Xing ZHANG | 2022 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,10: | 5 |
| 2 | Effects of Huatan Tongluo decoction on vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 expression in synovial tissues of rats with collagen-induced arthritis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine the therapeutic effect and potential mechanism of Huatan Tongluo decoction on rats with collagen-induced arthritis.METHODS: Forty specific pathogen-free Wistar rats were selected, and 10 were randomly selected as the control(group 1). The remaining rats were injected intradermally with emulsified type Ⅱ bovine collagen at the tail base and back, followed by a booster 7 d post first immunization. After establishing collagen-induced arthritis(CIA), rats were randomly divided into three groups(n = 10). The rats were treated orally for 30 d as follows: group 1, saline; group 2, model(saline); group 3, tripterygium polyglycoside(TP; 7.81 mg/kg, positive control);group 4, Huatan Tongluo decoction(HTTL; 7.5 g/kg). Body weight, ankle swelling and arthritis index were measured over the course of the study. The rats were sacrificed 30 d after treatment. Morphological changes in the synovium were observed by hematoxylin and eosin staining. Pannus formation and synovial thickness in the left ankle were observed by color Doppler ultrasoundVascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and VEGFR2 protein levels were measured by immunohistochemistry.VEGF/VEGFR2 mRNA levels were measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: Compared with the model group, a significantly lower arthritis index was observed in the positive control group(P < 0.05) and HTTL group(P < 0.01), after treatment. Both positive control and HTTL reduced intra-articular pannus formation and synovial thickening. | 4 | Comparison of the Physicochemical Characteristics of Pinus koraiensis L. Nut Oils from Different Extraction Technologies显示文摘In this study, the physicochemical properties, fatty acid profiles, and tocopherol compositions of Pinus koraiensis L.nut oils were evaluated, and the impact of different extraction technologies on the overall quality of pine nut oil was assessed. All the pine nut oils had pleasant and characteristic odor and flavor of the pine nuts and the flavor of the oil from hot-pressing was strongest. The oils obtained by hexane extraction and sub-critical extraction had less deterioration, indicating hexane extraction and sub-critical extraction preserve the oil quality well. Gas chromatography showed that the predominant fatty acid was linoleic acid(45.36%–45.91%), followed by oleic acid(26.91%–27.10%), and pinolenic acid(13.33%–13.63%), respectively. The oils from hexane extraction of cold-pressed cake and sub-critical extraction were richer in tocopherols and tocotrienols, namely, 37.52 and 36.18 mg/100 g, respectively, with α-tocopherol most abundant. The pine nut oils from hexane extraction of cold-pressed cake,hexane extraction, cold pressing, and sub-critical extraction had better oxidation stability with the oxidation induction times of 6.91, 5.27, 4.96 and 4.93 h, respectively. Based on its features, P. koraiensis nut oil may have the multiple application in edible oil, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industry. | 5 | Cycle number of neoadjuvant chemotherapy might influence survival of patients with T1-4N2-3M0 nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Objective: Stage N2-3 nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) shows a high risk of distant metastasis, which will finally cause death. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NACT) of various cycles before radical radiotherapy on distant metastasis and survival of patients with stage N2-3 diseases.Methods: In this study, a total of 1,164 consecutive patients with non-metastatic N2-3 NPC were recruited and prospectively observed. Then 231 patients who received NACT of 4 cycles(NACT=4 group) were matched 1:2:1 to 462 patients treated with NACT of 2 cycles(NACT=2 group) and 231 patients treated without NACT(NACT=0 group), according to age, histological subtype, N stage and NACT regimen. Five candidate variables(sex, T stage, concurrent chemotherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy and cycle number of NACT) were analyzed for their association with patients' survival.Results: After matching, the overall survival(OS), disease-free survival(DFS), local-recurrence-free survival(RFS) and distant-metastasis-free survival(MFS) of the NACT=4 group(89.2%, 81.0%, 83.3% and 84.8%,respectively) were better than those of the NACT=2 group(83.3%, 72.5%, 81.2% and 77.9%, respectively) and the NACT=0 group(74.0%, 63.2%, 74.0% and 68.8%, respectively). | 9 | The mechanism of a new type of modified clay controlling Phaeocystis globosa growth显示文摘Phaeocystis globosa is a harmful algal bloom(HAB)species worldwide.Using modified clay(MC)to control HABs and to mitigate their adverse effects is currently a commonly used method in China.In this paper,the effects of oxidized composite modified clay(OXI-MC)on P.globosa were studied from different perspectives.The results show that the OXI-MC could effectively remove P.globosa and inhibit both the growth of residual algal cells and the formation of new colonies.The P.globosa algal biomass removal efficiencies after 3 h reached 90%at a dose of 0.1 g/L,and the number of colonies with different particle sizes was greatly reduced.Compared with those of the control,the superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity,catalase(CAT)activity,and malondialdehyde(MDA)content of the residual algae significantly increased,indicating that OXI-MC caused oxidative stress in the algal cells.In addition,we evaluated the effects of OXI-MC on the photosynthesis of residual microalgae and found that the maximal photochemical efficiency of photosystem II(PSII)under dark adaptation(F v/F m)and actual photochemical efficiency of PSII(ФPSII)decreased,severely damaging the photosynthesis efficiency,implying that OXI-MC effected the photosynthesis system of P.globosa.The results of this study clarify that OXI-MC could remove the most of algal cells and break up the colonies of P.globosa by collision,flocculation,and releasing active substances,as well as inhibit effectively the growth and colony formation of residual P.globosa by causing oxidative stress,reducing photosynthesis activity,accelerating the degradation of polysaccharides,and inhibiting the formation of colonies. | QIU Lixia YU Zhiming CAO Xihua JI Hena SONG Xiuxian | 2020 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,4: | 1 |

| 11 | Chemical Mechanism of Flocculation and Deposition of Clay Colloids in Coastal Aquifers显示文摘Seawater intrusion has become one of serious environmental problems in coastal areas. During the replacement of saline water by fresh water in the aquifers, in-situ clay could be released, transport and deposit in the porous media due to the change of hydrodynamic and geochemical conditions, which resulted in the increasing of particle size, plugging of pores and reduction of the permeability. Batch experiments and sand column experiments were explored to study the relationships between the flocculation of in-situ clay and geochemical conditions, by changing ionic strength and ionic type of clay suspension. Column outflow was analyzed for suspended particles and electrical conductivity. The total percentage of colloid straining and interception distribution in porous media was calculated. The results indicate that porous media had an effect on the interception of clay colloid particles with about 10 percent clay colloids captured due to the rough surfaces and spatial structure of porous media. Ionic strength played a key role on the permeability reductions. The higher ionic strength is, the greater the amount of colloidal particles trapped. Ionic type also had a significant effect on the interception of clay colloid particles. Ripening was the main mechanism for the interception within porous media when the bulk solution was potassium chloride while blocking happened when the bulk solution was sodium chloride. The distribution of clay colloids in porous media was heterogeneous. The closer to the sand column inlet was the less interception of clay colloids was. | 18 | Alternatingly stacked thin film electrodes-based compact aqueous hybrid electrochemical capacitors for hundred-volts AC line filtering显示文摘Filtering capacitor with compact configuration and a wide range of operating voltage has been attracting increasing attention for the smooth conversion of the electric signal in modern circuits.Lossless integration of capacitor units can be regarded as one of the efficient ways to achieve a wider voltage range,which has not yet been fully conquered due to the lack of rational designs of the electrode structure and integration technology.This study presents an alternatingly stacked assemble technology to conveniently fabricate compact aqueous hybrid integrated filtering capacitors on a large scale,in which a unit consists of rGO/MXene composite film as a negative electrode and PEDOT:PSS based film as a positive electrode.Benefiting from the synergistic effect of rGO and MXene components,and morphological characteristics of PEDOT:PSS,the capacitor unit exhibits outstanding AC line filtering with a large areal specific energy density of 1,015 μF V^(2)cm^(-2)(0.28 μW h cm^(-2)) at 120 Hz.After rational integration,the assembled capacitors present compact/lightweight configuration and lossless frequency response,as reflected by almost constant resistor-capacitor time constant of 0.2 ms and dissipation factor of 15% at120 Hz,identical to those of the single capacitor unit.Apart from standing alone steadily on a flower,a small volume(only 8.1 cm^(3)) of the integrated capacitor with 70 units connected in series achieves hundred-volts alternating current line filtering,which is superior to most reported filtering capacitors with sandwich configuration.This study provides insight into the fabrication and application of compact/ultralight filtering capacitors with lossless frequency response,and a wide range of operating voltage. | Lixia Wang Lingyu Zhao Meirong Song Lixia Xie Xiaopeng Wang Xin Li Yanjie Huang Min Wei Qiu Jin Xianglong Meng Yang Zhao | 2023 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,3: | 0 |
| 19 | Using NH_(2)-MIL-125(Ti)for efficient removal of Cr(Ⅵ)and Rh B from aqueous solutions:Competitive and cooperative behavior in the binary system显示文摘The coexistence of inorganic and organic contaminants is a challenge for real-life water treatment applications.Therefore,in this research,we used NH_2-MIL-125(Ti)to evaluate the single adsorption of hexavalent chromium(Cr(Ⅵ))or Rhodamine B(RhB)in an aqueous solution and further investigate simultaneous adsorption experiments to compare the adsorption behavior changes.The main influencing factors,for example,reaction time,initial concentration,reaction temperature,and pH were studied in detail.In all reaction systems,the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models were well illuminated the adsorption progress of Cr(Ⅵ)and RhB.Thermodynamic studies showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic.As compared to the single system,the adsorption capacity of Cr(Ⅵ)in the binary system gradually decreased as the additive amount of RhB increased,whereas the adsorption capacity of RhB in the binary system was expanded brilliantly.When the binary reaction system contained 100 mg/L Cr(Ⅵ),the removal rate of RhB increased to 97.58%.The formation of Cr(Ⅵ)-RhB and Cr(Ⅲ)-RhB complexes was the cause that provided facilitation for the adsorption of RhB.These findings prove that the interactions during the water treatment process between contaminants may obtain additional benefits,contributing to a better adsorption capacity of co-existing contaminant. | Lei Zheng Lixia Sun Jiangbo Qiu Junling Song Luyi Zou Yue Teng Yongzhong Zong Hongyan Yu | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,2: | 0 |
