1Supplemental magnolol or honokiol attenuates adverse effects in broilers infected with Salmonella pullorum by modulating mucosal gene expression and the gut microbiota显示文摘Background:Salmonella pullorum is one of the most harmful pathogens to avian species.Magnolol and honokiol,natural compounds extracted from Magnolia officinalis,exerts anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant and antibacterial activities.This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplemental magnolol and honokiol in broilers infected with S.pullorum.A total of 360 one-day-old broilers were selected and randomly divided into four groups with six replicates:the negative control group(CTL),S.pullorum-infected group(SP),and the S.pulloruminfected group supplemented with 300 mg/kg honokiol(SPH)or magnolol(SPM).Results:The results showed that challenging with S.pullorum impaired growth performance in broilers,as indicated by the observed decreases in body weight(P<0.05)and average daily gains(P<0.05),along with increased spleen(P<0.01)and bursa of Fabricus weights(P<0.05),serum globulin contents,and the decreased intestine villus height and villus/crypt ratios(P<0.05).Notably,supplemental magnolol and honokiol attenuated these adverse changes,and the effects of magnolol were better than those of honokiol.Therefore,we performed RNA-Seq in ileum tissues and 16S rRNA gene sequencing of ileum bacteria.Our analysis revealed that magnolol increased the α-diversity(observed species,Chao1,ACE,and PD whole tree)and β-diversity of the ileum bacteria(P<0.05).In addition,magnolol supplementation increased the abundance of Lactobacillus(P<0.01)and decreased unidentified Cyanobacteria(P<0.05)both at d 14 and d 21.Further study confirmed that differentially expressed genes induced by magnolol and honokiol supplementation enriched in cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions,in the intestinal immune network for IgA production,and in the cell adhesion molecule pathways.Conclusions:Supplemental magnolol and honokiol alleviated S.pullorum-induced impairments in growth performance,and the effect of magnolol was better than that of honokiol,which could be partially due to magnolol’s ability to improve the intestinal microbial and mucosal barrier.Fang Chen Hao Zhang Encun Du Qiwen Fan Na Zhao Feng Jin Wei Zhang Wanzheng Guo Shaowen Huang Jintao Wei 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,1:9
2Recent advances in photodynamic therapy based on emerging two-dimensional layered nanomaterials显示文摘Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a promising non-invasive therapy approach for various diseases including malignant tumor.The process of PDT involves three interrelated aspects,namely photosensitizer(PS),light source,and oxygen,among which PS is the decisive factor that determines its anticancer efficiency.There exist some defects in currently applied PDT,such as inadequate production of reactive oxygen species(ROS),poor penetration of exciting light,insufficient oxygen supply,and nonselective distribution of PS.With unique physicochemical and optical properties,two-dimensional nanomaterials(2DNMs)have aroused great interest in biomedical fields.2DNMs-based PDT is promising to significantly improve antitumor efficacy compared to conventional PDT.In this review,we will firstly introduce the underlying mechanism of PDT and how 2DNMs are absorbed and distribute inside tumor cells.After that,we will not only illustrate how 2DNMs-based PDT can enhance tumor-killing efficacy and minimize side-effects through conquering the above-mentioned defects of conventional PDT and the preparation process of 2DNMs,but also elaborate recent advances about 2DNMs-based PDT.Lastly,we will summarize the challenges and future prospects of 2DNMs-based PDT.Xinqiang Wu Xiaofeng Jiang Taojian Fan Zhiwei Zheng Zhaoyuan Liu Yubin Chen Liangqi Cao Zhongjian Xie Dawei Zhang Jiaqi Zhao Qiwen Wang Zhenhui Huang Zhijian Chen Ping Xue Han Zhang 2020Nano Research2020,13,6:6
3Determination of the ^(12)C(p, γ)^(13)N reaction rates fromthe ^(12)C(~7Li,~6He)^(13)N reaction显示文摘The angular distribution of the 12C(7Li,6He)13N reaction at E(7Li) = 44.0 MeV was measured at the HI-13 tandem accelerator of Beijing, China. The asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) of 13N → 12C + p was derived to be (1.64 ± 0.11) fm-1/2 through the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) analysis. 5Promoting spintronic terahertz radiation via Tamm plasmon coupling显示文摘Spectral fingerprint and terahertz(THz)field-induced carrier dynamics demands the exploration of broadband and intense THz signal sources.Spintronic THz emitters(STEs),with high stability,a low cost,and an ultrabroad bandwidth,have been a hot topic in the field of THz sources.One of the main barriers to their practical application is lack of an STE with strong radiation intensity.Here,through the combination of optical physics and ultrafast photonics,the Tamm plasmon coupling(TPC)facilitating THz radiation is realized between spin THz thin films and photonic crystal structures.Simulation results show that the spectral absorptance can be increased from 36.8%to 94.3%for spin THz thin films with TPC.This coupling with narrowband resonance not only improves the optical-to-spin conversion efficiency,but also guarantees THz transmission with a negligible loss(~4%)for the photonic crystal structure.According to the simulation,we prepared this structure successfully and experimentally realized a 264%THz radiation enhancement.Furthermore,the spin THz thin films with TPC exhibited invariant absorptivity under different polarization modes of the pump beam and weakening confinement on an obliquely incident pump laser.This approach is easy to implement and offers possibilities to overcome compatibility issues between the optical structure design and low energy consumption for ultrafast THz optospintronics and other similar devices.YUNQING JIANG HONGQING LI XIAOQIANG ZHANG FAN ZHANG YONG XU YONGGUANG XIAO FENGGUANG LIU ANTING WANG QIWEN ZHAN WEISHENG ZHAO 2023Photonics Research2023,11,6:0

7Bifidobacterium adolescentis orchestrates CD143^(+)cancer-associated fibroblasts to suppress colorectal tumorigenesis by Wnt signaling-regulated GAS1显示文摘Background The interplay between gut microbiota and tumor microenvironment(TME)in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer(CRC)is not well explored.Here,we elucidated the functional role of Bifidobacterium adolescentis(B.a)on CRC and investigated its possible mechanism on the manipulation of cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)in CRC.Methods Different CRC animal models and various cell line models were established to explore the function of B.a on CRC.The single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq)or flow cytometry was used to detect the cell subsets in the TME of CRC.Western blot,quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR),or immunofluorescence staining were performed to examine the activation of Wnt signaling and growth arrest specific 1(GAS1)on CD143+CAFs.Chromatin immunoprecipitation quantitative real-time PCR(CHIP-qPCR)was performed to investigate the regulation of transcription factor 4(TCF4)on GAS1.Multi-immunofluorescence assay examined the expression level of CD143 and GAS1 on tissue microarray.Results We found that B.a abundance was significantly reduced in CRC patients from two independent cohorts and the bacteria database of GMrepo.Supplementation with B.a suppressed ApcMin/+spontaneous or AOM/DSS-induced tumorigenesis in mice.scRNA-seq revealed that B.a facilitated a subset of CD143+CAFs by inhibiting the infiltration of Th2 cells,while promoting the TNF-alpha+B cells in TME.CD143+CAFs highly expressed GAS1 and exhibited tumor suppressive effect.Mechanistically,GAS1 was activated by the Wnt/β-catenin signaling in CD143+CAFs.B.a abundance was correlated with the expression level of CD143 and GAS1.The level of CD143+CAFs predicted the better survival outcome in CRC patients.Conclusions These results highlighted that B.a induced a new subset of CD143+CAFs by Wnt signaling-regulated GAS1 to suppress tumorigenesis and provided a novel therapeutic target for probiotic-based modulation of TME in CRC.Shujie Chen Lina Fan Yifeng Lin Yadong Qi Chaochao Xu Qiwei Ge Ying Zhang Qiwen Wang Dingjiacheng Jia Lan Wang Jianmin Si Liangjing Wang 2023Cancer Communications2023,43,9:0

9A highly degradable Mg-Al-Ca alloy with superior anti-tumor efficacy显示文摘Molecule hydrogen(H_(2)) has been used to suppress tumor growth. To employ the H_(2) therapy, it is necessary to use a proper agent for continuous generation of H_(2). As a biodegradable metal, magnesium(Mg) generates H_(2) in an aqueous environment, but the H_(2) release rate is still too low. Here, we design a Mg-Al-Ca(AX) alloy that degrades very rapidly due to the presence of a secondary phase Al_(2)Ca. Having a reduction potential much higher than Mg and any other Mg-based secondary phases, Al_(2)Ca accelerates the corrosion of the Mg matrix by a micro-galvanic process. Al_(2)Ca also enhances the strength and ductility of the AX alloy. AX alloy rods show better anti-tumor efficacy than pure Mg rods in vivo.
