| 1 | Antioxidant role of zinc in diabetes mellitus显示文摘Chronic hyperglycemia statue noticed in diabetes mellitus favors the manifestation of oxidative stress by increasing the production of reactive oxygen species and/or by reducing the antioxidant defense system activity.Zinc plays an important role in antioxidant defense in type2 diabetic patients by notably acting as a cofactor of the superoxide dismutase enzyme,by modulating the glutathione metabolism and metallothionein expression,by competing with iron and copper in the cell membrane and by inhibiting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-oxidase enzyme.Zinc also improves the oxidative stress in these patients by reducing chronic hyperglycemia. It indeed promotes phosphorylation of insulin receptors by enhancing transport of glucose into cells. However, several studies reveal changes in zinc metabolism in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and controversies remain regarding the effect of zinc supplementation in the improvement of oxidative stress in these patients.Faced with the serious challenge of the metabolic disorders related to oxidative stress in diabetes along with the importance of antioxidant nutrients in the control of this disease, new studies may contribute to improve our understanding of the role played by zinc against oxidative stress and its connection with type 2 diabetes mellitus prognosis. This could serve as a prelude to the development of prevention strategies and treatment of disorders associated with this chronic disease. | Kyria Jayanne Clímaco Cruz Ana Raquel Soares de Oliveira Dilina do Nascimento Marreiro | 2015 | World Journal of Diabetes2015,6,2: | 4 |

| 9 | Evaluation of the Antibacterial and Antifungal Capacity of Nanoemulsions Loaded with Synthetic Chalcone Derivatives Di-Benzyl Cinnamaldehyde and Benzyl 4-Aminochalcone显示文摘With the increase in antimicrobial resistance,it has become necessary to explore alternative approaches for combating and preventing diseases.DB-cinnamaldehyde(CNM)and Benzyl4-amino(B4AM)are bioactive compounds derived from chalcones but with restricted solubility in aqueous media.Nanoemulsions can enhance the solubility of compounds and can be a promising alternative in the development of novel antimicrobials, with reduced side effects and prolonged release. The objective of this study was to evaluate the stability of oil-in-water nanoemulsions loaded with two distinct types of chalcones at two different dosages,to propose a stable formulation with antimicrobial properties. Results showed that nanoemulsions presented high encapsulation efficiency, low polydispersity index(PDI)and particle size below 200 nm,indicating that emulsification was a suitable method for nanoemulsion preparation.Nanoemulsions with higher dosages exhibited significant antimicrobial effects when compared to free chalcones and positive controls.Notably,B4AM nanoemulsions at higher dosages showed expressive activity against Salmonella minnesota, with a 420%greater inhibitory response compared to the free form and showing equivalence to the positive control.CNM nanoemulsions showed excellent inhibitory activity at the highest dosage, equivalent to the positive control against S.minnesota and Staphylococcus aureus. The greater number of conjugated bonds in CNM increased the antimicrobial activity in comparison with B4AM,and the formation of nanometric domains enhanced the bioavailability, being a promising alternative for antimicrobial applications. | Flavia Oliveira Monteiro da Silva Abreu Taysse Holanda Joice Farias do Nascimento Henety Nascimento Pinheiro Rachel Menezes Castelo Hélcio Silva dos Santos Thais Benincá Patrícia da Silva Malheiros Júlio César Sousa Prado Raquel de Oliveira Fontenelle Maria Madalena de Camargo Forte | 2024 | Journal of Renewable Materials2024,12,2: | 0 |

| 11 | A novel supplement with yeast b-glucan, prebiotic, minerals and Silybum marianum synergistically modulates metabolic and inflammatory pathways and improves steatosis in obese mice显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the synergic effects of a novel oral supplement formulation, containing prebiotics, yeast b-glucans, minerals and silymarin(Silybum marianum), on lipid and glycidic metabolism, inflammatory and mitochondrial proteins of the liver, in control and high-fat diet-induced obese mice. Methods: After an acclimation period, 32 male C57 BL/6 mice were divided into the following groups:nonfat diet(NFD) vehicle, NFD supplemented, high-fat diet(HFD) vehicle and HFD supplemented. The vehicle and experimental formulation were administered orally by gavage once a day during the last four weeks of the diet(28 consecutive days). We then evaluated energy homeostasis, inflammation, and mitochondrial protein expression in these groups of mice. Results: After four weeks of supplementation, study groups experienced reduced glycemia, dyslipidemia, fat, and hepatic fibrosis levels. Additionally, proliferator-activated receptor-α, AMP-activated protein kinase-1α, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ co-activator-1α, and mitochondrial transcription factor A expression levels were augmented;however, levels of inhibitor of nuclear factor-κB kinase subunit a and p65 nuclear factor-κB expression, and oxidative markers were reduced. Notably, the cortisol/C-reactive protein ratio, a well-characterized marker of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis immune interface status, was found to be modulated by the supplement. Conclusion: We discovered that the novel supplement was able to modify different antioxidant, metabolic and inflammatory pathways, improving the energy homeostasis and inflammatory status, and consequently alleviated hepatic steatosis. | Victor Abou Nehmi Gilson Masahiro Murata Ruan Carlos Macêdo de Moraes Gabriely Cristina AlvesLima Danielle Araujo De Miranda Katrin Radloff Raquel Galvao Figuerêdo Costa Joyce de Cassia Rosade Jesus Jéssica Alves De Freitas Nayara Izabel Viana Ruan Pimenta Katia Ramos Moreira Leite JoséPinhata Otoch Ana Flávia Marcal Pessoa | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,19,5: | 0 |
