| 1 | 在过敏 bronchopulmonary 麴菌病的胸 X 光线照相术、计算的 tomographic 表明显示文摘 AIM:To investigate the chest radiographic and high resolution computed tomography(HRCT)chest manifestations in glucocorticoid-naive allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis(ABPA)patients.METHODS:This is a prospective observational study and includes 60 consecutive glucocorticoid-naive patients with ABPA who underwent chest radiography and HRCT of the chest(1.25 mm every 10 mm)in the routine diagnostic workup for ABPA.RESULTS:Chest radiographs were normal in 50%of cases.Of the remainder,most patients demonstrated permanent findings in the form of parallel line and ring shadows suggesting bronchiectasis.Consolidation was detected in 17 cases but in the majority,the corresponding HRCT chest scan showed mucus-filled bronchiectatic cavities.Chest HRCT was normal in 22 patients,while central bronchiectasis(CB)was demonstrated in the remaining 38 patients.Bronchiectasis extended to the periphery in 33%-43%depending on the criteria used for defining CB.The other findings observed on HRCT were mucoid impaction,centrilobular nodules and high-attenuation mucus in decreasing order of frequency.CONCLUSION:Patients with ABPA can present with normal HRCT chest scans.Central bronchiectasis cannot be considered a characteristic feature of ABPA as peripheral bronchiectasis is commonly observed.Consolidation is an uncommon finding in ABPA. | Ritesh Agarwal Ajmal Khan Mandeep Garg Ashutosh N Aggarwal Dheeraj Gupta | 2012 | World Journal of Radiology2012,4,4: | 14 |

| 3 | Outcome of complex tibial plateau fractures with Ilizarov external fixation with or without minimal internal fixation显示文摘Purpose: To evaluate the clinico-radiological outcome of complex tibial plateau fractures treated with Ilizarov external fixation with or without minimal internal fixation. Methods: This retrospective review was conducted on all the cases of Schatzker types V and VI tibial plateau fractures treated by Ilizarov external fixation between July 2006 and December 2015 with the minimum follow-up duration of one year. There were 30 patients: 24 males and 6 females, mean age 43.33 years, and mean follow-up 3.6 years. Three of them were open fractures;15 cases were Schatzkertype V fractures and the other 15 type VI. According to AO/OTA classification, there were 11 type C1, 12 C2 and 7 type C3 fractures. Outcome assessment was made with American Knee Society Score (AKSS) and Rasmussen's Radiological Score (RRS) at final follow-up. Results: Out of the 30 cases, mini-open reduction was performed in 7, bone graft in 4, minimal internal fixation in 10 and knee temporary immobilisation in 11 patients. Mean duration of external fixation was 11.8 weeks. All fractures united. Pin tract infections in 7 and common peroneal neuropathy in 2 patients were self-limiting. Two patients had axial misalignment of less than 10°. At final follow-up, the mean knee range of motion was 114.7, mean AKSS 81.5 and mean RRS 16.7. On statistical analysis, Schatzker type of fractures, use of minimal internal fixation and knee-spanning did not influence the final outcome. Conclusion: Ilizarov external fixator with or without minimal internal fixation provides acceptable outcome for complex tibial plateau fractures. Care must be taken to look for minor loss of alignment, especially in Type VI Schatzker fractures after removal of the fixator. | 5 | Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis:Lessons for the busy radiologist显示文摘The probability of a radiologist interpreting a disease correctly is not only influenced by their training and experience but also on the knowledge of a particular entity.This editorial reviews certain myths and realities associated with radiological manifestations of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis(ABPA).ABPA is a hypersensitivity disorder against the antigens of Aspergillus fumigatus.Although commonly manifesting with central bronchiectasis(CB),the disorder can present without any abnormalities on high-resolution computed tomography(HRCT) of the chest,so-called serologic ABPA(ABPA-S).HRCT of the chest should not be used in screening or in the initial diagnostic work up of asthmatics,as asthma without ABPA can manifest with findings of CB.High-attenuation mucus(HAM) is the pathognomonic sign of ABPA and is very helpful in the diagnosis of ABPA complicating asthma and cystic fibrosis.Instead of classifying ABPA based on the presence and absence of CB into ABPA-CB and ABPA-S respectively,ABPA should be classif ied as ABPA-S,ABPACB and ABPA-CB-HAM.The classif ication scheme based on HAM not only identifies an immunologically severe disease but also predicts a patient with increased risk of recurrent relapses. | Ritesh Agarwal | 2011 | World Journal of Radiology2011,3,7: | 8 |

They have varied presentation ranging from asymptomatic incidental mediastinal masses to locally extensive tumor with compressive symptoms and distant metastases. They have frequent association with various paraneoplastic syndromes(PNS). The most common PNS associated with thymoma is myasthenia gravis(MG). Patients of thymoma with MG have a favourable outcome due to early disclosure of the disease. Histologically they are classified into five subtypes and MasaokaKoga staging system is used for staging. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy play an important role along with anti-myasthenia drugs. However, complicated hydatid cysts can prove to be a diagnostic challenge at times due to their atypical imaging features. Radiography is the initial imaging modality. Computed tomography can provide a specific diagnosis in complicated cases. Ultrasound is particularly useful in peripheral lung lesions. | 11 | Hydrogen peroxide mediates pro-inflammatory cell-to-cell signaling: a new therapeutic target for inflammation?显示文摘Nitric oxide is now universally recognized as an extracellular signaling molecule. Nitric oxide, produced in one cell, diffuses across the extracellular space and acts with targets in an adjoining cell. In this study, we present proof that hydrogen peroxide - like nitric oxide - acts as a true first (intercellular) messenger for a multitude of pro-inflammatory ligands. RAW 264.7 macrophages were activated with three different ligands, lipopolysaccharide, interferon-gamma or advanced glycation end products in the presence of increasing concentrations of (hydrogen peroxide scavenging) catalase. As inflammatory readouts, nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor were determined. We hypothesize that hydrogen peroxide travels between cells propagating the signal, then a certain percentage of the readout should be inhibited by catalase in a concentration- dependent manner. The experiment showed concentration-dependent inhib让ion of nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor-a production in response to all three ligands/ligand combinations (interferon-gamma, lipopolysaccharide, and chicken egg albumin-derived advanced glycation end product) in the presence of increasing concentration of catalase. For example, catalase inhibited 100% of nitric oxide and 40% of tumor necrosis factor-a production at its highest concentration. Our results suggest that hydrogen peroxide travels through cell membranes into the extracellular space and enters and activates ad;acent cells. Like rdtric oxide, we suggest that it is a ubiquitous first messenger, able to transmit cell-to-cell pro-inflammatory signals such as nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor-a. AF is a commonly encountered comorbidity in patients with cardiac and major non-cardiac diseases. Morbidity and mortality associated with AF makes it a major healthcare burden. The objective of our article is to determine the prognostic impact of AF on acute coronary syndromes,heart failure and chronic kidney disease. Multiple studies have been conducted to determine if AF has an independent role in the overall mortality of such patients. | 13 | Hierarchical assemblies of molecular frameworks—MOF-on-MOF epitaxial heterostructures显示文摘Functional,porous metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have attracted much attention as a very flexible class of crystalline,porous materials.For more advanced applications that exploit photophysical properties,the fabrication of hierarchical assemblies,including the creation of MOF/MOF heterointerfaces,is important.For the manufacturing of superstructures with length scales well beyond that of the MOF pore size,layer-by-layer(Ibl)methods are particularly attractive.These allow the isoreticular approach to be extended to superstructures with micrometer length scales,a range that is not accessible using conventional MOF design.The Ibl approach further substantially extends the compositional diversity in MOFs.At the same time,the favorable elastic properties of MOFs allow for heteroepitaxial growth,even in the case of lattice misfits as large as 20%.While the MOF-on-MOF approach to designing multicomponent superstructures with synergistic multifunctionality can also be realized with sophisticated solvothermal synthesis schemes,the Ibl(or liquid-phase epitaxy)approach carries substantial advantages,in particular when it comes to the integration of such MOF superstructures into optical or electronic devices.While the structure vertical to the substrate can be adjusted using the Ibl method,photolithographic methods can be used for lateral structuring.In this review,we will discuss the Ibl liquid-phase epitaxy approach to growing surface-anchored MOF thins films(SURMOFs)as well as other relevant one-pot synthesis methods for constructing such hierarchically designed structures and their emerging applications. | Ritesh Haidar Christof Woll | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,2: | 2 |
| 14 | Fuel properties and combustion characteristics of some promising bamboo species in India显示文摘We investigated the fuel characteristics of five important bamboo species viz., Dendrocalamus strictus, D. brandisii, D. stocksii, Bambusa bambos and B. balcooa. The selected species cover more than 85% of the total growing stock of bamboo in India. Basic density varied from 0.48 to 0.78 g?cm-3 among the bamboo species studied. Ash content, volatile matter content and fixed carbon content ranged between 1.4%-3.0%, 77.2%-80.8% and 17.6%-21.1%, respectively. Variation in calorific value(18.7-19.6 MJ?kg-1) was marginal. Fuel value index varied widely(586-2120) among bamboo species. The highest calorific value(19.6 MJ?kg-1) and fuel value index(2120) were found in B. balcooa. Ash elemental analysis revealed that silica and potassium are the major ash forming minerals in bamboo biomass. Silica content ranged from 8.7% to 49.0%, while potassium ranged from 20.6% to 69.8%. We studied combustion characteristics under oxidizing atmosphere. Burning profiles of the samples were derived by applying the derivative thermogravimetric technique which is discussed in detail. The five bamboo species were different in their combustion behaviour, mainly due to differences in physical and chemical properties. | 17 | Fungal infections following liver transplantation显示文摘With increasing morbidity and mortality from chronic liver disease and acute liver failure,the need for liver transplantation is on the rise.Most of these patients are extremely vulnerable to infections as they are immune-compromised and have other chronic co-morbid conditions.Despite the recent advances in practice and improvement in diagnostic surveillance and treatment modalities,a major portion of these patients continue to be affected by post-transplant infections.Of these,fungal infections are particularly notorious given their vague and insidious onset and are very challenging to diagnose.This mini-review aims to discuss the incidence of fungal infections following liver transplantation,the different fungi involved,the risk factors,which predispose these patients to such infections,associated diagnostic challenges,and the role of prophylaxis.The population at risk is increasingly old and frail,suffering from various other co-morbid conditions,and needs special attention.To improve care and to decrease the burden of such infections,we need to identify the at-risk population with more robust clinical and diagnostic parameters.A more robust global consensus and stringent guidelines are needed to fight against resistant microbes and maintain the longevity of current antimicrobial therapies. | Madiha Khalid Ritesh Neupane Humayun Anjum Salim Surani | 2021 | World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,11: | 2 |
| 18 | Evidence for current diagnostic criteria of diabetes mellitus显示文摘Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable metabolicderangement afflicting several millions of individuals globally. It is associated with several micro and macro-vascular complications and is also a leading cause of mortality. The unresolved issue is that of definition of the diagnostic threshold for diabetes. The World Health Organization and the American Diabetes Asso-ciation(ADA) have laid down several diagnostic criteria for diagnosing diabetes and prediabetes based on the accumulating body of evidence.This review has attempted to analyse the scientific evidence supporting the justification of these differing criteria. The evidence for diagnosing diabetes is strong, and there is a concordance between the two professional bodies. The controversy arises when describing the normal lower limit of fasting plasma glucose(FPG) with little evidence favouring the reduction of the FPG by the ADA. Several studies have also shown the development of complications specific for diabetes in patients with prediabetes as defined by the current criteria though there is a significant overlap of such prevalence in individuals with normoglycemia.
