1Albedo of Coastal Landfast Sea Ice in Prydz Bay,Antarctica:Observations and Parameterization显示文摘The snow/sea-ice albedo was measured over coastal landfast sea ice in Prydz Bay, East Antarctica(off Zhongshan Station)during the austral spring and summer of 2010 and 2011. The variation of the observed albedo was a combination of a gradual seasonal transition from spring to summer and abrupt changes resulting from synoptic events, including snowfall, blowing snow, and overcast skies. The measured albedo ranged from 0.94 over thick fresh snow to 0.36 over melting sea ice. It was found that snow thickness was the most important factor influencing the albedo variation, while synoptic events and overcast skies could increase the albedo by about 0.18 and 0.06, respectively. The in-situ measured albedo and related physical parameters(e.g., snow thickness, ice thickness, surface temperature, and air temperature) were then used to evaluate four different snow/ice albedo parameterizations used in a variety of climate models. The parameterized albedos showed substantial discrepancies compared to the observed albedo, particularly during the summer melt period, even though more complex parameterizations yielded more realistic variations than simple ones. A modified parameterization was developed,which further considered synoptic events, cloud cover, and the local landfast sea-ice surface characteristics. 4A survey of HIV infection and related high-risk factors among men who have sex with men in Suzhou,Jiangsu,China显示文摘A cross-sectional study using the snowball sampling method was conducted in May 2008 to investigate human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection status and related high risk factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Suzhou city of Jiangsu province. The researchers carried out a face-to-face questionnaire interview among MSM, and collected their blood samples to test for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Among the 280 respondents, 91.1% had homosexual acts in the past 6 months and 87.5% had multiple homosexual partners; 46.4% had heterosexual sex in the past 6 months and 33.1% had multiple heterosexual partners. The rate of continued condom use was 44.3% in homosexual sex in the past 6 months, while the rate in heterosexual sex was 33.9%. Laboratory test results showed that the prevalences of HIV and syphilis were 7.1% (20/280) and 15.0% (42/280), respectively, but no HCV-positive person was found. In the multivariate logistic regression model, subjects with a monthly income of more than RMB $ 1,000 (OR=4.83,95% CI=1.44-16.22), subjects who often went to bars for sexual partners (OR=2.25, 95%CI=1.21-4.20), and subjects who had more than one sexual partner in the past 6 months (OR=0.49, 95%CI=0.25-0.97) and had sex with fixed sexual partners in the past 6 months (OR=0.42, 95%CI=0.25-0.75) were significantly associated with the rate of continued condom use in homosexual sex in the past 6 months. Unprotected sex and multiple sexual partners were more common among MSM in Suzhou city; furthermore, the prevalences of HIV infection and syphilis were relatively high. 9Ecological wetland paradigm drives water source improvement in the stream network of Yangtze River Delta显示文摘Jiaxing created a precedent using bypass riparian marshes to purify micro-polluted water sources in China.Pond-wetland complex with constructed root channel technology becomes a paradigm which can be analogized as'human-body wetland model'based on bionics or biomimetics.Heterogeneous plant-bed/ditch system with highly active land/water ecotone interfaces,especially meandering boundaries,breeds many biochemical reactions'living areas'.Optimization of hydraulic regulation promotes redox environment alternations and wetland treatment efficiency.Here we reported a series of upgrades and performances in Guanjinggang wetland after the Shijiuyang prototype.Morphological reform of plant-bed/ditch system played a vital role.Spatially root channel zone was main force of wetland purification,and temporally the treatment effect was higher in low-temperature seasons indicating non-temperature dependent mechanisms worked.Water pollution comprehensive index improved steadily from IV to III,and comprehensive pollution load was reduced by ca.40%–60%.Comprehensive evaluation function value further showed the gradients purification effect of the upgraded wetland.Ecological wetlands ameliorated source water quality,and reduced drinking water treatment reagents,thereby bringing about economic benefits.Through wetlands operation,people can see how the micro-polluted surface water becomes clear and clean,so promoting a significant social benefit.As a viable component of urban green space,wetlands could beautify regional eco-environment,freshen the air,increase urban ecological taste,and enhance the eco-environmental protection publicity.Thus,the multifunctional service values and indirect benefits are substantial.Jiaxing ecological wetlands provide a typical paradigm for water pollution remediation in developing countries and plays a leading role in technology engineering radiation effect.Weidong Wang Ting Yang Weibing Guan Weixi Peng Ping Wu Bin Zhong Chundong Zhou Qinghua Chen Rongbin Zhang Kewen Xu Chengqing Yin 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,12:1
10Research, development and application of compound-vertical-retort technology for magnesium production显示文摘This paper comprehensively introduces a new magnesium production technology the compound-vertical-retort technology, involving in the related fundamental researches, core equipment development, working flow, and technical characteristics. Scale-up test and an annual1200-ton-magnesium demonstration-level test was conducted to confirm the rationality, reliability, and advancement of the equipment, system and process design. It is indicated that the new technology solved a series of problems of traditional silicothermic process including adhesion and glaze, short life of retort, low efficiency, high impurity of crystallized magnesium, large heat losses, and poor working environment,making a great technological breakthrough in this field. Representatively, the new well-designed ceramic-lined steel retort serves 2~3 times in life than the normal retorts. The magnesium yield per retort is improved 4~5 times, with purity of >99.8%. The energy consumption in reduction stage is reduced by more than 20%.
