| 1 | Incidence and mortality of laryngeal cancer in China, 2011显示文摘Objective: Laryngeal cancer is the common cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract. We aimed to use the national cancer registration data in 2011 to estimate the incidence and mortality of laryngeal cancer within China.Methods: Comparable, high-quality data from 177 population-based cancer registries were qualified for analysis. The pooled data were stratified by area, sex and age group. National new cases and deaths of laryngeal cancer were estimated using age-specific rates and national population in 2010. All incidence and death rates were age-standardized to the 2000 Chinese standard population and Segi's population, which were expressed per 100,000 populations.Results: All 177 cancer registries covered a total of 175,310,169 population(98,341,507 in urban and 76,968,662 in rural areas), accounting for 13.01% of the national population. The data quality indicators of proportion of morphological verification(MV%), percentage of cancer cases identified with death certification only(DCO%) and mortality to incidence ratio(M/I) were 77.98%, 2.62% and 0.55, respectively. Estimated 20,875 new cases of laryngeal cancer were diagnosed and 11,488 deaths from laryngeal cancer occurred in China in 2011. The crude incidence rate of laryngeal cancer was 1.55/100,000(2.69/100,000 in males and 0.35/100,000 in females). Age-standardized incidence rates by Chinese standard population(ASIRC) and by world standard population(ASIRW) were 1.13/100,000 and 1.14/100,000, respectively. Laryngeal cancer is much rarer in females than in males. The incidence rate was higher in urban areas than that in rural areas. The crude mortality rate of laryngeal cancer was 0.85/100,000(1.42/100,000 in males and 0.25/100,000 in females). Age-standardized mortality rates by Chinese standard population(ASMRC) and by world standard population(ASMRW) were both 0.61/100,000. The mortality rate in males was much higher than that in females. There was no definite difference in mortality rates of laryngeal cancer between urban and rural areas.Conclusions: Larynx is a specialized area and cancer of larynx significantly affects the quality of life for the patients. | 2 | Annual cost of illness of stomach and esophageal cancer patientsin urban and rural areas in China: A multi-center study显示文摘Objective: Stomach and esophageal cancer are imposing huge threats to the health of Chinese people whereas there were few studies on the financial burden of the two cancers.Methods: Costs per hospitalization of all patients with stomach or esophageal cancer discharged between September 2015 and August 2016 in seven cities/counties in China were collected, together with their demographic information and clinical details. Former patients in the same hospitals were sampled to collect information on annual direct non-medical cost, indirect costs and annual number of hospitalization. Annual direct medical cost was obtained by multiplying cost per hospitalization by annual number of hospitalization. Annual cost of illness(ACI)was obtained by adding the average value of annual direct medical cost, direct non-medical cost and indirect cost,stratified by sex, age, clinical stage, therapy and pathologic type in urban and rural areas. Costs per hospitalization were itemized into eight parts to calculate the proportion of each part. All costs were converted to 2016 US dollars(1 USD=6.6423 RMB).Results: Totally 19,986 cases were included, predominately male. Mean ages of stomach cancer and urban patients were lower than that of esophageal cancer and rural patients. ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer patients were $10,449 and $13,029 in urban areas, and $2,927 and $3,504 in rural areas, respectively. Greater ACI was associated with male, non-elderly patients as well as those who were in stage I and underwent surgeries.Western medicine fee took the largest proportion of cost per hospitalization.Conclusions: The ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer was tremendous and varied substantially among the population in China. | 6 | Rare earth doping effects on superconducting properties of MgB_2:A review显示文摘Rare earth(RE) elements and their compounds have been doped into MgB_2 since the discovery of the superconductivity of MgB_2. The doping effects of RE elements and RE compounds are summarized in terms of different doping methods and the accompanying variations in the superconducting transition temperature, upper critical field, irreversibility field, and critical current density(Jc). Conclusions are drawn on the doping mechanisms to demonstrate the possibility of improvement of Jcin the future. REBy phase inclusions are observed in MgB_2 as nano-pinning centers with significant enhancement of Jcin MgB_2 doped with Y, La, Dy, Ho, Nd, etc. Furthermore, some REs with larger magnetic moments will provide more efficient flux pinning centers with larger pinning forces, which is different with the doping effects and mechanism of ferromagnetic transition metals in MgB_2. Using a combination of structured illumination with the surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) technique, wide-field Raman imaging is developed with a significant improvement in spatial resolution. As a result of the relatively narrow Raman characteristic peaks, optically encoded SERS nanoparticles can be used to perform multiplexed imaging. The results show excellent superresolution wide-field multiplexed imaging performance. | 8 | Meiotic nuclear divisions 1(MND1)fuels cell cycle progression by activating a KLF6/E2F1 positive feedback loop in lung adenocarcinoma显示文摘Background:Considering the increase in the proportion of lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)cases among all lung cancers and its considerable contribution to cancer-related deaths worldwide,we sought to identify novel oncogenes to provide potential targets and facilitate a better understanding of the malignant progression of LUAD.Methods:The results from the screening of transcriptome and survival analyses according to the integrated Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO)datasets and The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)data were combined,and a promising risk biomarker called meiotic nuclear divisions 1(MND1)was selectively acquired.Cell viability assays and subcutaneous xenograftmodelswere used to validate the oncogenic role ofMND1 in LUADcell proliferation and tumor growth.Aseries of assays,including mass spectrometry,co-immunoprecipitation(Co-IP),and chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP),were performed to explore the underlying mechanism.Results:MND1 up-regulation was identified to be an independent risk factor for overall survival in LUAD patients evaluated by both tissue microarray staining and third party data analysis.In vivo and in vitro assays showed that MND1 promoted LUAD cell proliferation by regulating cell cycle.The results of the Co-IP,ChIP and dual-luciferase reporter assays validated that MND1 competitively bound to tumor suppressor Kruppel-like factor 6(KLF6),and thereby protecting E2F transcription factor 1(E2F1)from KLF6-induced transcriptional repression.Luciferase reporter and ChIP assays found that E2F1 activated MND1 transcription by binding to its promoter in a feedback manner.Conclusions:MND1,KLF6,and E2F1 form a positive feedback loop to regulate cell cycle and confer DDP resistance in LUAD.MND1 is crucial for malignant progression and may be a potential therapeutic target in LUAD patients. | Quanli Zhang Run Shi Yongkang Bai Lijuan Meng Jingwen Hu Hongyu Zhu Tongyan Liu Xiaomeng De Siwei Wang Jie Wang Lin Xu Guoren Zhou Rong Yin | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,6: | 2 |

The main results are as follows :(1) The source of organic matter, mechanism of hydrocarbon generation and expulsion, and key factors affecting shale oil abundance;(2) The types and structural characteristics of the reservoir and their contribution to porosity and permeability;(3) The mineral origin and evolution of minerals and their influence on reservoir availability, sensitivity, and compressibility;(4) The rock mechanical characteristics and fracture propagation law of Gulong shale;(5) The shale oil products, phase change law and main control factors of adsorption and desorption conversion of Gulong shale oil;(6) The mechanism of shale oil-liquid, solid-liquid gas interaction and enhanced oil recovery. | 10 | LncRNA LINC00525 suppresses p21 expression viamRNA decay and triplex-mediated changes in chromatin structure in lung adenocarcinoma显示文摘Background:Emerging evidence suggests that long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs)play crucial roles in various cancers.In the present study,we aim to investigate the function and molecular mechanism of an up-regulated and survivalassociated lncRNA,LINC00525,in lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD).Methods:The expression level of LINC00525 in tissueswas determined by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR)and in situ hybridization(ISH).The functional role of LINC00525 in LUAD was investigated using gain-and loss-of-function approaches,both in vivo and in vitro.RNA pull-down,RNA immunoprecipitation(RIP),chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP),triplex-capture assay,dual-luciferase assay,gene expression microarray,and bioinformatics analysis were used to investigate the potential underlying mechanisms involved.Results:LINC00525 is highly expressed in LUAD cells and tissues.Survival analysis indicated that upregulation of LINC00525 was associated with poor prognosis in patients with LUAD patients.Knockdown of LINC00525 inhibited cell proliferation and cell cycle progression in vitro.In xenograft models,LINC00525 knockdown suppressed tumor growth and tumorigenesis of tumorbearing mice.Mechanistically,LINC00525 epigenetically suppressed p21 transcription by guiding Enhancer Of Zeste 2 Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 Subunit(EZH2)to the p21 promoter through an formation of RNA-DNA triplex with the p21 promoter,leading to increased trimethylation of lysine 27 on histone 3(H3K27me3)of the p21 promoter.In addition,LINC00525 repressed p21 expression post-transcriptionally by enhancing p21mRNA decay.LINC00525 promoted p21mRNAdecay by competitively binding toRNABindingMotif Single Stranded Interacting Protein 2(RBMS2).Conclusion:Our findings demonstrate that LINC00525 promotes the progression of LUAD by reducing the transcription and stability of p21 mRNA in concert with EZH2 and RBMS2,thus suggesting that LINC00525 may be a potential therapeutic target for clinical intervention in LUAD. | Panqi Fang Hao Chen Zhifei Ma Chencheng Han Wenda Yin Siwei Wang Hongyu Zhu Wenjia Xia Jie Wang Lin Xu Tongyan Liu Rong Yin | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,7: | 2 |

| 14 | Retrieved lymph nodes from different anatomic groups in gastric cancer:a proposed optimal number,comparison with other nodal classification strategies and its impact on prognosis显示文摘Background:The optimal number of retrieved lymph nodes(LNs)in gastric cancer(GC)is still debatable and previ-ous studies proposing new classification alternatives mostly focused on the number of retrieved LNs without proper consideration on the anatomic nodal groups’location.Here,we assessed the impact of retrieved LNs from different nodal location groups on the survival of GC patients.Methods:Stage I-III gastric cancer patients who had radical gastrectomy were investigated.LN grouping was deter-mined according to the 13th edition of the JCGC.The optimal cut-off values of retrieved LNs in different LN groups(Group 1 and 2)were calculated,based on which a proposed nodal classification(rN)simultaneously accounting the optimal number and location of retrieved LNs was proposed.The performance of rN was then compared to that of LN ratio,log-odds of metastatic LNs(LODDs)and the 8th edition of the Union for International Cancer Control/American Joint Committee on Cancer(UICC/AJCC)N classification.Results:The optimal cut-off values for Group 1 and 2 were 13 and 9,respectively.The 5-year overall survival(OS)was higher for patients in retrieved Group 1 LNs>13(vs.Group 1 LNs≤13,63.2%vs.57.9%,P=0.005)and retrieved Group 2 LNs>9(vs.Group 2 LNs≤9,72.5%vs.60.7%,P=0.009).Patients staged as pN0-3b were sub classified using this Group 1 and 2 nodal analogy.The OS of pN0-N2 patients in retrieved Group 1 LNs>13 or Group 2 LNs>9 were superior to those in retrieved Group 1 LNs≤13 and Group 2 LNs≤9(All P<0.05);except for pN3 patients.The rN clas-sification was formulated and demonstrated better 5-year OS prognostication performance as compared to the LNR,LODDs,and the 8th UICC/AJCC N staging system.Conclusions:The retrieval of>13 and>9 LNs for Group 1 and Group 2,respectively,could represent an alternative lymph node retrieval approach in radical gastrectomy for more precise survival prognostication and minimizing staging migration,especially if>16 LNs is found to be difficult. | Siwei Pan Pengliang Wang Yanan Xing Kai Li Zhenning Wang Huimian Xu Zhi Zhu | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 1 |

| 16 | Achieving white-light emission in a single-component polymer with halogen-assisted interaction显示文摘White-light emitting(WLE) polymers have attracted continuous attention for their promising applications in solid-state lighting,flexible display and related fields. However, achieving dual-emission and pure white-light emission in a single-component polymer is still challenging. In this study, a brominated single-component polymer Br OD-TFB was designed and synthesized,which shows dual-emission and white light emission properties in solution and room-temperature phosphorescence(RTP) in thin films. The dual-emission properties can be tuned by concentration, solvent polarity, and excitation energy. Spectral analyses and theoretical calculations reveal that the origin of the high-energy emission band(HEB) is intramolecular charge transfer(ICT)along the polymer chain, whilst the low-energy emission band(LEB) originates from the excited-state related to the intra-chain and inter-chain C–Br···π interactions as demonstrated by the single-crystal structure of the model compound. Appropriate control of the formation and the destruction of the halogen-assisted interactions can initiate white-light emission in the singlecomponent polymer. | 20 | Cell-derived extracellular matrix-coated silk fibroin scaffold for cardiogenesis of brown adipose stem cells through modulation of TGF-β pathway显示文摘The cell-derived extracellular matrix(ECM)-modified scaffolds have advantages of mimic tissue specificity and been thought to better mimic the native cellular microenvironment in vitro.ECM derived from cardiac fibroblasts(CFs)are considered as key elements that provide a natural cell growth microenvironment and change the fate of cardiomyocytes(CMs).Here,a new hybrid scaffold is designed based on silk fibroin(SF)scaffold and CFs-derived ECM.CFs were seeded on the SF scaffold for 10days culturing and decellularized to produce CFs-derived ECM-coated SF scaffold.The results showed that the cell-derived ECM-modified silk fibroin scaffold material contained collagen,laminin,fibronectin and other ECM components with myocardial-like properties.Further to explore its effects on brown adipose stem cells(BASCs)differentiation into CMs.We found that the CFderived ECM-coated scaffold also increased the expression of CM-specific proteins(e.g.cardiac troponin T and α-actinin)of BASCs.Notably,the b1-integrin-dependent transforming growth factor-β1 signaling pathway was also involved in the regulation of CF-derived ECM by promoting the differentiation of BASCs into CMs.Overall,these findings provide insights into the bionic manufacturing of engineered cardiac tissues(ECTs)and establish a theoretical basis for the construction of ECTs. | Wei Liu Yanfeng Sun Xiaohui Dong Qi Yin Huimin Zhu Siwei Li Jin Zhou Changyong Wang | 2020 | Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,4: | 1 |
