| 1 | SGLT-2 inhibitors in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a common comorbidity with type 2 diabetes.The existing therapeutic options for NAFLD are not adequate.Hypocaloric diet and exercise is the cornerstone of therapy in NAFLD.Pioglitazone is the only drug recommended in diabetes patients with biopsy proven non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.The frequent coexistence of NAFLD and type 2 diabetes with their combined adverse health consequences and inadequate therapeutic options makes it necessary to search for newer alternatives.AIM To assess the effect of sodium glucose cotransporter-2(SGLT-2)inhibitors on liver enzymes in type 2 diabetes patients with NAFLD.METHODS We searched PubMed/MEDLINE,Cochrane library,Google scholar,and Clinicaltrials.gov for the relevant articles to be included in this systematic review.Human studies done in type 2 diabetes patients with NAFLD treated with SGLT-2 inhibitors for at least 12 wk were included.Data from eight studies(four randomised controlled trials and four observational studies)were extracted and a narrative synthesis was done.A total of 214 patients were treated with SGLT-2 inhibitors in these studies(94 in randomised controlled trials and 120 in observational studies).RESULTS The primary outcome measure was change in serum alanine aminotransferase level.Out of eight studies,seven studies showed a significant decrease in serum alanine aminotransferase level.Most of the studies revealed reduction in serum level of other liver enzymes like aspartate aminotransferase and gamma glutamyl transferase.Five studies that reported a change in hepatic fat exhibited a significant reduction in hepatic fat content in those treated with SGLT-2 inhibitors.Likewise,among the three studies that evaluated a change in indices of hepatic fibrosis,two studies revealed a significant improvement in liver fibrosis.Moreover,there was an improvement in obesity,insulin resistance,glycaemia,and lipid parameters in those subjects taking SGLT-2 inhibitors.The studies disclosed that about 17%(30/176)of the subjects taking SGLT-2 inhibitors developed adverse events and more than 40%(10/23)of them had genitourinary tract infections.CONCLUSION Based on low to moderate quality of evidence,SGLT-2 inhibitors improve the serum level of liver enzymes,decrease liver fat,and fibrosis with additional beneficial effects on various metabolic parameters in type 2 diabetes patients with NAFLD. | Henith Raj Harsh Durgia Rajan Palui Sadishkumar Kamalanathan Sandhiya Selvarajan Sitanshu Sekhar Kar Jayaprakash Sahoo | 2019 | World Journal of Diabetes2019,10,2: | 9 |
| 2 | Low-cost high entropy alloy(HEA)for high-efficiency oxygen evolution reaction(OER)显示文摘Oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is the key step involved both in water splitting devices and rechargeable metal-air batteries,and hence,there is an urgent need for a stable and low-cost material for efficient OER.In the present investigation,Co-Fe-Ga-NiZn(CFGNZ)high entropy alloy(HEA)has been utilized as a low-cost electrocatalyst for OER.Herein,after cyclic voltammetry activation,CFGNZ-nanoparticles(NPs)are covered with oxidized surface and form high entropy(oxy)hydroxides(HEOs),exhibiting a low overpotential of 370 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm^(2)with a small Tafel slope of 71 mV/dec.CFGNZ alloy has higher electrochemical stability in comparison to state-of-the art RuO2 electrocatalyst as no degradation has been observed up to 10 h of chronoamperometry.Transmission electron microscopy(TEM)studies after 10 h of long-term chronoamperometry test showed no change in the crystal structure,which confirmed the high stability of CFGNZ.The density functional theory(DFT)based calculations show that the closeness of d(p)-band centers to the Fermi level(EF)plays a major role in determining active sites.This work highlights the tremendous potential of CFGNZ HEA for OER,which is the primary reaction involved in water splitting. | Lalita Sharma Nirmal Kumar Katiyar Arko Parui Rakesh Das Ritesh Kumar Chandra Sekhar Tiwary Abhisek K.Singh Aditi Halder Krishanu Biswas | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,6: | 5 |
| 3 | Ciprofloxacin degradation in photo-Fenton and photo-catalytic processes: Degradation mechanisms and iron chelation显示文摘Ciprofloxacin(CIP)is a broad spectrum synthetic antibiotic drug of fluoroquinolones class.CIP can act as a bidentate ligand forming iron complexes during its degradation in the photoFenton process(PFP).This work investigates on PFP for the degradation of CIP to understand the formation mechanism and stability of iron complexes under ultraviolet(UV)-light illumination.A comparison was made with the UV-photocatalysis(UV/TiO_2)process where CIP doesn't form a complex.In PFP,the optimal dose of Fe^(2+)and H_2O_2were found to be 1.25 and10 mmol/L with pH of 3.5.An optimal TiO_2dose of 1.25 g/L was determined in the UV/TiO_2process.Maximum CIP removal and mineralization efficiency of 93.1%and 47.3%were obtained in PFP against 69.7%and 27.6%in the UV/TiO_2process.The mass spectra could identify seventeen intermediate products including iron-CIP complexes in PFP,and only seven intermediate products were found in the UV/TiO_2process with a majority of common products in both the processes.The proposed mechanism supported by the mass spectra bridged the routes of CIP cleavage in the PFP and UV/TiO_2process,and the decomposition pathway of Fe^(3+)-CIP chelate complexes in PFP was also elucidated.Both in PFP and UV/TiO_2processes,the target site of HO~·radical attack was the secondary-N atom present in the piperazine ring of the CIP molecule.The death of Escherichia coli bacteria was 55.7%and 66.8%in comparison to the control media after 45 min of treatment in PFP and UV/TiO_2process,respectively. | Ardhendu Sekhar Giri Animes Kumar Golder | 2019 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,6: | 5 |

| 5 | Identification of Protein-Coding Regions in DNA Sequences Using A Time-Frequency Filtering Approach显示文摘Accurate identification of protein-coding regions (exons) in DNA sequences has been a challenging task in bioinformatics. Particularly the coding regions have a 3-base periodicity, which forms the basis of all exon identification methods. Many signal processing tools and techniques have been applied successfully for the identification task but still improvement in this direction is needed. In this paper, we have introduced a new promising model-independent time-frequency filtering technique based on S-transform for accurate identification of the coding regions. The S-transform is a powerful linear time-frequency representation useful for filtering in time-frequency domain. The potential of the proposed technique has been assessed through simulation study and the results obtained have been compared with the existing methods using standard datasets. | 6 | Graphene sandwiched crumb rubber dispersed hot mix asphalt显示文摘The crumb rubber obtained from discarded vehicle tires and graphene oxide prepared by oxidation of graphite powder in laboratory were used to modify virgin bitumen. Four different hot mix asphalt matrices prepared using virgin bitumen, crumb rubber modified bitumen, graphene oxide modified bitumen and combination of crumb rubber-graphene oxide modified bitumen are compared. The modified bitumen matrices are characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy for structural and morphological analysis. Marshall properties along with indirect tensile test and tensile strength ratio tests were carried out to check the resistance towards cracking and moisture susceptibility of matrices. The results show that, crumb rubber and graphene oxide are completely compatible with bitumen. 9.8% crumb rubber content in crumb rubber modified bitumen hot mix asphalt exhibits the optimum result. | 8 | Ternary MOF‑Based Redox Active Sites Enabled 3D‑on‑2D Nanoarchitectured Battery‑Type Electrodes for High‑Energy‑Density Supercapatteries显示文摘Designing rationally combined metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)with multifunctional nanogeometries is of significant research interest to enable the electrochemical properties in advanced energy storage devices.Herein,we explored a new class of binderfree dual-layered Ni-Co-Mn-based MOFs(NCM-based MOFs)with three-dimensional(3D)-on-2D nanoarchitectures through a polarityinduced solution-phase method for high-performance supercapatteries.The hierarchical NCM-based MOFs having grown on nickel foam exhibit a battery-type charge storage mechanism with superior areal capacity(1311.4μAh cm^−2 at 5 mA cm^−2),good rate capability(61.8%;811.67μAh cm^−2 at 50 mA cm^−2),and an excellent cycling durability.The superior charge storage properties are ascribed to the synergistic features,higher accessible active sites of dual-layered nanogeometries,and exalted redox chemistry of multi metallic guest species,respectively.The bilayered NCM-based MOFs are further employed as a battery-type electrode for the fabrication of supercapattery paradigm with biomass-derived nitrogen/oxygen doped porous carbon as a negative electrode,which demonstrates excellent capacity of 1.6 mAh cm^−2 along with high energy and power densities of 1.21 mWh cm^−2 and 32.49 mW cm^−2,respectively.Following,the MOF-based supercapattery was further assembled with a renewable solar power harvester to use as a self-charging station for various portable electronic applications. | Goli Nagaraju SChandra Sekhar Bhimanaboina Ramulu SkKhaja Hussain DNarsimulu Jae Su Yu | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,1: | 3 |
| 9 | Influence of dynamic soil-pile raft-structure interaction:an experimental approach显示文摘Traditionally seismic design of structures supported on piled raft foundation is performed by considering fixed base conditions, while the pile head is also considered to be fixed for the design of the pile foundation. Major drawback of this assumption is that it cannot capture soil-foundation-structure interaction due to flexibility of soil or the inertial interaction involving heavy foundation masses. Previous studies on this subject addressed mainly the intricacy in modelling of dynamic soil structure interaction(DSSI) but not the implication of such interaction on the distribution of forces at various elements of the pile foundation and supported structure. A recent numerical study by the authors showed significant change in response at different elements of the piled raft supported structure when DSSI effects are considered. The present study is a limited attempt in this direction, and it examines such observations through shake table tests. The effect of DSSI is examined by comparing dynamic responses from fixed base scaled down model structures and the overall systems. This study indicates the possibility of significant underestimation in design forces for both the column and pile if designed under fixed base assumption. | 10 | Risk factors for the development of colorectal carcinoma:A case control study from South India显示文摘AIM:To study the association of colorectal carcinoma(CRC) with diet,smoking,alcohol,physical activity,body mass index,family history and diabetes.METHODS: All consecutive patients with CRC confirmed by histopathology diagnosis were included. Age(±5 years) and gender matched controls were selected among the patients admitted in surgery ward for various conditions without any co-existing malignancy. Food frequency questionnaire(FFQ) was developed and validated after pretesting by investigator trained in data col ection techniques. Cases and controls were interviewed ensuring privacy,in similar interview setting,with same duration of time for both cases and controls without any leading question. Biological variables like family history of CRC in first degree relatives,history of diabetes mellitus; behavioral factors like tobacco use both smoking and smokeless form,alcohol consumption and physical activity were recorded. Dietary details were recorded using a FFQ consisting 29 food items with seven categories. Analysis was done using appropriate statistical methods.RESULTS: Ninety-four histopathologically confirmed cases of CRC and equal number of age and gender matched controls treated over a period of two years were studied. Age distribution,mean age,male to female ratio,education level and socioeconomic status were similar in cases and controls. Intake of food items was categorized into tertile due to skewed distribution of subjects as per recommended cut off for consumption of food item. On univariate analysis red meat [OR=7.4(2.935-18.732)],egg [OR=5.1(2.26-11.36)],fish,fried food and oil consumption were found to be risk factors for CRC. On multivariate analysis red meat consumption of more than 2-3 times a month(OR=5.4; 95%CI:1.55-19.05) and egg consumption of more than 2-3 times a week(OR = 3.67; 95%CI:1.23-9.35) were found to be independent risk factors for the development of CRC.CONCLUSION: Egg and red meat consumption found to be independent risk factors for CRC. Wearable electronic sensors that can operate in a continuous and sustainable manner without the need of an external power sources, are essential for portable and mobile electronic applications. In this review article, the recent progress and advantages of wearable self-powered smart chemical sensors systems for wearable electronics are presented. An overview of various modes of energy conversion and storage technologies for self-powered devices is provided. Self-powered chemical sensors (SPCS) systems with integrated energy units are then discussed, separated as solar cell-based SPCS, triboelectric nano-generators based SPCS, piezoelectric nano-generators based SPCS, energy storage device based SPCS, and thermal energy-based SPCS. | 19 | Risk factors for endophthalmitis following cataract surgery-our experience at a tertiary eye care centre in India显示文摘AIM: To determine the risk factors for acute endophthalmitis after cataract extraction in a tertiary care centre in India.·METHODS: We performed a nested case control study within a retrospective cohort. The surgical records of all patients with clinically diagnosed endophthalmitis within one month after cataract surgery, performed between January 2006 and December 2009, were reviewed. These were compared with randomly selected age and gender-matched controls, from patients having routine cataract surgery within ±1wk of the endophthalmitis case.Univariable and multivariable analysis were performed to identify risk factors for endophthalmitis.· RESULTS: Of the total 33 856 cataract surgeries performed during this period, there were 57 cases of postoperative acute endophthalmitis that met our study criteria. Thus, the overall incidence of endophthalmitis in our cohort was 1.6 per 1000 cataract extractions performed. Mean age of cases was 55.9y(SD: 10.9y) and for controls was 55.6y(SD: 9.8y). Thirty-five cases(61.4%)and 133 controls(59.6%) were males. Median time of onset of endophthalmitis was 4d(IQR 2-9d; range: 1-30d).Thirty-nine cases(68.4%) presented within 7d and 27 cases(47.4%) were culture positive. Two hundred and twenty-three age and gender matched controls were selected.
