| 8 | Invasibility and recoverability of a plant community following invasion depend on its successional stages显示文摘Exotic species invasion represent important causes of harming the structure,function,and ecological environment in ecosystems.Yet,knowledge remains limited on the invasibility(invasion advantage of exotic species)and recoverability(recovery ability of native species)of a plant community following invasion depend on its successional stages.We selected three grasses of Setaria viridis,Artemisia gmelinii,and Bothriochloa ischemum representing early(E),middle(M),and late(L)successional species,respectively.Meanwhile,the grasses of Panicum virgatum was selected to represent exotic species(invasion species).Three types of soil were collected to treat the three E,M,and L successional species,and one type of soil was collected to treat the exotic species.We compared the performance of the three native plant species and one exotic species grown in their“own”and“other”soils in a 2-year greenhouse experiment.Our study showed that exotic species performed better in soils of E and M successional species than in the soil of L successional species.After exotic species removed,E and M successional species exhibited poor growth in the soil of exotic species,while that of L successional species performed poor in field exotic species soils,but performed better in soils disturbed by exotic species.Our study demonstrated that the invasibility and recoverability of native plant communities changed with vegetation succession. | Hongwei Xu Zemin Ai Qing Qu Minggang Wang Guobin Liu Sha Xue | 2022 | Soil Ecology Letters2022,4,2: | 1 |

| 12 | Comparison of caspase-3 activation in tumor cells upon treatment of chemotherapeutic drugs using capillary electrophoresis显示文摘Caspases play important roles in cell apoptosis.Meas-urement of the dynamics of caspase activation in tumor cells not only facilitates understanding of the molecular mechanisms of apoptosis but also contributes to the development,screening,and evaluation of anticancer drugs that target apoptotic pathways.The fluorescence resonance energy transfer(FRET)technique provides a valuable approach for defining the dynamics of apop-tosis with high spatio-temporal resolution.However,FRET generally functions in the single-cell level and becomes ineffective when applied in the high throughput detection of caspase activation.In the cur-rent study,a FRET sensor was combined with capillary electrophoresis(CE)to achieve a high throughput method for cellular caspase detection.The FRET-based CE system is composed of a homemade CE system and a laser source for detecting the dynamics of caspase-3 in various cells expressing sensors of caspase-3 that have been treated with anticancer drugs,such as cell cycle-independent drug cisplatin and specific cell cycle drugs camptothecin and etoposide,as well as their combination with tumor necrosis factor(TNF).A posi-tive correlation between the caspase-3 activation ve-locity and drug concentration was observed when the cells were treated with cisplatin,but cells induced by camptothecin and etoposide did not show any apparent correlation with their concentrations.Moreover,differ-ent types of cells presented distinct sensitivities under the same drug treatment,and the combination treat-ment of TNF and anticancer drugs significantly accel-erated the caspase-3 activation process.Its high throughput capability and detection sensitivity make the FRET-based CE system a useful tool for investi-gating the mechanisms of anticancer drugs and anti-cancer drug screening. | Shuang Sha Honglin Jin Xiao Li Jie Yang Ruiting Ai Jinling Lu | 2012 | Protein & Cell2012,3,5: | 1 |

| 16 | Exposure to Radon and Kidney Cancer:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Observational Epidemiological Studies显示文摘Objective To evaluate the possible association between radon exposure and kidney cancer. Methods We performed a systematic review and a meta-analysis based on random effect models to provide a pooled association measure. Results We subjected 8 studies(overall relative risks and 95% confidence intervals: 1.01, 0.72 to 1.43, I^2 = 64.4%) to meta-analysis. Subgroup analysis revealed a marginally significant association between radon exposure and kidney cancer in studies conducted in Europe. Two population-based studies provided no evidence for the increased risk of kidney cancer in the general population. Conclusion The association between radon and kidney cancer remains unclear but cannot be excluded because of its biological plausibility and the limited number and quality of existing studies.
