2Crop photosynthetic response to light quality and light intensity显示文摘Under natural conditions, plants constantly encounter various biotic and abiotic factors, which can potentially restrict plant growth and development and even limit crop productivity. Among various abiotic factors affecting plant photosynthesis, light serves as an important factor that drives carbon metabolism in plants and supports life on earth. The two components of light(light quality and light intensity) greatly affect plant photosynthesis and other plant's morphological, physiological and biochemical parameters. The response of plants to different spectral radiations and intensities differs in various species and also depends on growing conditions. To date, much research has been conducted regarding how different spectral radiations of varying intensity can affect plant growth and development. 4Effect of silica fume on the fresh and hardened properties of fly ash-based self-compacting geopolymer concrete显示文摘The effect of silica fume on the fresh and hardened properties of fly ash-based self-compacting geopolymer concrete(SCGC) was investigated in this paper.The work focused on the concrete mixes with a fixed water-to-geopolymer solid(W/Gs) ratio of 0.33 by mass and a constant total binder content of 400 kg/m3.The mass fractions of silica fume that replaced fly ash in this research were 0wt%,5wt%,10wt%,and 15wt%.The workability-related fresh properties of SCGC were assessed through slump flow,V-funnel,and L-box test methods.Hardened concrete tests were limited to compressive,splitting tensile and flexural strengths,all of which were measured at the age of 1,7,and 28 d after 48-h oven curing.The results indicate that the addition of silica fume as a partial replacement of fly ash results in the loss of workability;nevertheless,the mechanical properties of hardened SCGC are significantly improved by incorporating silica fume,especially up to 10wt%.Applying this percentage of silica fume results in 4.3% reduction in the slump flow;however,it increases the compressive strength by 6.9%,tensile strength by 12.8% and flexural strength by 11.5%.Fareed Ahmed Memon Muhd Fadhil Nuruddin Nasir Shafiq 2013International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2013,20,2:6
5Far-red light: A regulator of plant morphology and photosynthetic capacity显示文摘Plant photosynthetic capacity directly determines crop yield. Light quality regulates photosynthetic capacity. This review discusses plant responses to far-red light from the phenotypic to the molecular level, focusing specifically on the improvement of photosynthetic capacity by adjustment of photosynthetic electron transport and the path of light energy. Far-red light can also regulate leaf angle and increase plant height and leaf area, via expression of associated genes, to capture more light energy.Thus, far-red light regulates plant morphology and photosynthetic capacity. 6EARLY FLOWERING IN SHORT DAYS(EFS) regulates the seed size in Arabidopsis显示文摘Post-transcriptional modifications,including histone modifications and DNA methylation,alter the chromatin landscape to regulate gene expression,thus control various cellular processes in plants.EARLY FLOWERING IN SHORT DAYS(EFS)is the major contributor for H3K36 methylation in Arabidopsis and is important for plant development.Here,we find that EFS is expressed in different stages of embryo morphogenesis,and the efs mutant produces larger embryo that results in enlarged seeds.Further analysis reveals that an imprinted gene MOP9.5 is hypomethylated at the promoter region and its expression is derepressed in efs mutant.MOP9.5 promoter is marked by various epigenetic modifications,and we find that following the increase of H3K36me3,H3K27me3 and H3K9me2 levels are reduced in efs mutant.This data indicates an antagonistic regulation between H3K36me3 and DNA methylation,and/or H3K27me3 at MOP9.5.Our results further show that both maternal and paternal EFS alleles are responsible for the seed size regulation,which unraveled a novel function of EFS in plant development.Lingling Cheng Sarfraz Shafiq Wei Xu Qianwen Sun 2018Science China(Life Sciences)2018,61,2:4
7In situ cardiac regeneration by using neuropeptide substance P and IGF-1C peptide eluting heart patches显示文摘Cardiovascular diseases cause huge socio-economic burden worldwide.Although a mammalian myocardium has its own limited healing capability,scaffold materials capable of releasing stem cell recruiting/engrafting factors may facilitate the regeneration of the infarcted myocardium.The aim of this research was to develop cardiac patches capable of simultaneously eluting substance P(SP)and insulin-like growth factor-1C(IGF-1C)peptide.Polycaprolactone/collagen type 1-based patches with or without SP and IGF-1C peptide were fabricated by co-electrospinning,which exhibited nanofibrous morphology.SP and IGF-1C/SP patches recruited significantly higher numbers of bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cells than that of the negative control and patch-only groups in vitro.The developed patches were transplanted in an infarcted myocardium for up to 14 days.Mice underwent left anterior descending artery ligation and received one of the following treatments:(i)sham,(ii)saline,(iii)patch-only,(iv)IGF-1C patch,(v)SP patch and(vi)IGF-1C/SP patch.SP and IGF-1C/SP patch-treated groups exhibited better heart function and attenuated adverse cardiac remodeling than that of the saline,patch-only and individual peptide containing cardiac patches.SP patch and IGF-1C/SP patch-treated groups also showed higher numbers of CD31-positive vessels and isolectin B4-positive capillaries than that of other groups.IGF-1C/SP-treated group also showed thicker left ventricular wall in comparison to the saline and patch-only groups.Moreover,IGF-1C/SP patches recruited significantly higher numbers of CD29-positive cells and showed less numbers of Tunel-positive cells compared with the other groups.These data suggest that SP and IGF-1C peptides may act synergistically for in situ tissue repair.Muhammad Shafiq Yue Zhang Dashuai Zhu Zongxian Zhao Dong-Hwee Kim Soo Hyun Kim Deling Kong 2018Regenerative Biomaterials2018,5,5:2
8Evolution of plasma parameters in an Ar-N2/He inductive plasma source with magnetic pole enhancement显示文摘Magnetic pole enhanced inductively coupled plasmas(MaPE-ICPs) are a promising source for plasma-based etching and have a wide range of material processing appUcations.In the present study Langmuir probe and optical emission spectroscopy were used to monitor the evolution of plasma parameters in a MaPE-ICP Ar-N_2/He mixture plasma.Electron density(n_e) and temperature(T_e),excitation temperature(T_(exc)),plasma potential(V_p),skin depth(δ) and the evolution of the electron energy probability function(EEPF) are reported as a function of radiofrequency(RF) power,pressure and argon concentration in the mixture.It is observed that n_e increases while T_e decreases with increase in RF power and argon concentration in the mixture.The emission intensity of the argon line at 750.4 nm is also used to monitor the variation of the 'high-energy tail' of the EEPF with RF power and gas pressure.The EEPF has a'bi-Maxwellian' distribution at low RF powers and higher pressure in a pure N_2 discharge.However,it evolves into a 'Maxwellian' distribution at RF powers greater than 70 W for pure N_2,and at 50 W for higher argon concentrations in the mixture.The effect of argon concentration on the temperatures of two electron groups in the 'bi-Maxwellian' EEPF is examined.The temperature of the low-energy electron group T_L shows a decreasing trend with argon addition until the 'thermalization' of the two temperatures occurs,while the temperature of high-energy electrons T_H decreases continuously.Maria YOUNUS N U REHMAN M SHAFIQ M NAEEM M ZAKA-UL-ISLAM M ZAKAULLAH 2017Plasma Science and Technology2017,19,2:2

10Para-aortic lymph node involvement should not be a contraindication to resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND Para-aortic lymph nodes(PALN)are found in the aortocaval groove and they are staged as metastatic disease if involved by pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).The data in the literature is conflicting with some studies having associated PALN involvement with poor prognosis,while others not sharing the same results.PALN resection is not included in the standard lymphadenectomy during pancreatic resections as per the International Study Group for Pancreatic Surgery and there is no consensus on the management of these cases.AIM To investigate the prognostic significance of PALN metastases on the oncological outcomes after resection for PDAC.METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study of data retrieved from a prospectively maintained database on consecutive patients undergoing pancreatectomies for PDAC where PALN was sampled between 2011 and 2020.Statistical comparison of the data between PALN+and PALN-subgroups,survival analysis with the Kaplan-Meier method and risk analysis with univariable and multivariable time to event Cox regression analysis were performed,specifically assessing oncological outcomes such as median overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS).RESULTS 81 cases had PALN sampling and 17(21%)were positive.Pathological N stage was significantly different between PALN+and PALN-patients(P=0.005),while no difference was observed in any of the other characteristics.Preoperative imaging diagnosed PALN positivity in one case.OS and DFS were comparable between PALN+and PALN-patients with lymph node positive disease(OS:13.2 mo vs 18.8 mo,P=0.161;DFS:13 mo vs 16.4 mo,P=0.179).No difference in OS or DFS was identified between PALN positive and negative patients when they received chemotherapy either in the neoadjuvant or in the adjuvant setting(OS:23.4 mo vs 20.6 mo,P=0.192;DFS:23.9 mo vs 20.5 mo,P=0.718).On the contrary,when patients did not receive chemotherapy,PALN disease had substantially shorter OS(5.5 mo vs 14.2 mo;P=0.015)and DFS(4.4 mo vs 9.8 mo;P<0.001).PALN involvement was not identified as an independent predictor for OS after multivariable analysis,while it was for DFS doubling the risk of recurrence.CONCLUSION PALN involvement does not affect OS when patients complete the indicated treatment pathway for PDAC,surgery and chemotherapy,and should not be considered as a contraindication to resection.Rupaly Pande Shafiq Chughtai Manish Ahuja Rachel Brown David C Bartlett Bobby V Dasari Ravi Marudanayagam Darius Mirza Keith Roberts John Isaac Robert P Sutcliffe Nikolaos A Chatzizacharias 2022World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2022,14,5:2

12Cobalt protoporphyrin-induced nano-self-assembly for CT imaging,magnetic-guidance,and antioxidative protection of stem cells in pulmonary fibrosis treatment显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)transplantation is a promising approach for pulmonary fibrosis(PF),however it is impeded by several persistent challenges,including the lack of long-term tracking,low retention,and poor survival of MSCs,as well as the low labeling efficiency of nanoprobes.Herein,a cobalt protoporphyrin IX(CoPP)aggregation-induced strategy is applied to develop a multifunctional nano-self-assembly(ASCP)by combining gold nanoparticle(AuNPs),superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles(SPIONs),and CoPP through a facile solvent evaporation-driven approach.Since no additional carrier materials are employed during the synthesis,high loading efficiency of active ingredients and excellent biocompatibility are achieved.Additionally,facile modification of the ASCPs with bicyclo[6.1.0]nonyne(BCN)groups(named as ASCP-BCN)enables them to effectively label MSCs through bioorthogonal chemistry.The obtained ASCP-BCN could not only help to track MSCs with AuNP-based computed tomography(CT)imaging,but also achieve an SPIONs-assisted magnetic field based improvement in the MSCs retention in lungs as well as promoted the survival of MSCs via the sustained release of CoPP.The in vivo results demonstrated that the labeled MSCs improved the lung functions and alle-viated the fibrosis symptoms in a bleomycin–induced PF mouse model.Collectively,a novel ASCP-BCN multi-functional nanoagent was developed to bioorthogonally-label MSCs with a high efficiency,presenting a promising potential in the high-efficient MSC therapy for PF.Yimeng Shu Ming Ma Xiaoxia Pan Muhammad Shafiq Huizhu Yu Hangrong Chen 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,3:2

14Boundary Layer Flow over a Curved Surface Imbedded in Porous Medium显示文摘This research is made to visualize the boundary layer flow by a curved stretching sheet embedded in porous medium. The geometry is bended(curved), therefore the curvilinear coordinates are used to model the present problem.Fluid is electrically conducting with the presence of uniform magnetic field. The governing non-linear partial differential equation reduces to non-linear ordinary differential equations by using the dimensionless suitable transformations. The numerical solutions are obtained by using the method bvp4c from MATLAB. The effects of curvature parameter, nondimensional magnetic parameter, and porosity parameter on the velocity field and skin friction coefficient are examined.The skin friction profile enhances with enhancing the values of porosity and magnetic parameter. 15Integrated Mineral Analysis of sandstone and dolomite formations using different chelating agents during matrix acidizing显示文摘Mineral analysis plays a major role in the successful matrix acidizing as it shows the change in physiochemical changes in the formation due to the reaction with fluids injected.Mineralogy of the reservoir can be altered by injecting mineral acids during matrix acidizing.But various complications are connected during the application of these acids such as environmental hazards,corrosion of pipes and tubings,precipitation of fluosilicates and fast spending of acid.To mitigate these problems,chelating agents have been applied as an alternative by different researchers.In this study,three different chelating agents EDTA,GLDA and HEDTA were applied to stimulate sandstone and dolomite samples.The pH value of these chelates ranges from 1.7 to 3 and is measured before and after core flooding to observe physiochemical changes.Core flooding experiments under 180F temperature were performed at a constant flow rate of 1 ml/min on core samples having dimensions(3 inch1.5 inch).Porosity,permeability,Inductively Coupled Plasma(ICP),and TESCAN Integrated Mineral Analysis(TIMA)were employed to measure changes in formation properties such as morphology,topology and mineralogy.The reacted sample of acids was analyzed for sodium,potassium,calcium,aluminium,magnesium,and iron using the ICP technique to find the capability of these chelates to remove positive ions.HEDTA found to be effective in chelating iron,calcium and magnesium and it also removed some amount of aluminium ions from the sandstone samples.Permeability and porosity analysis concluded that HEDTA is more efficient in creating new big pore spaces.TIMA analysis confirms that HEDTA is effective in dissolving quartz and other positive ions while dissolved a large amount of calcium and sodium from the sandstone as compared to other chelates.TIMA analysis also concluded that HEDTA is effective in increasing porosity of sandstone formation while GLDA is effective in dolomites.Mian Umer Shafiq Hisham Khaled Ben Mahmud Mohsen Ghasemi 2019Petroleum2019,5,1:2
16Face Recognition Using Dense SIFT Feature Alignment显示文摘This paper addresses face recognition problem in a more challenging scenario where the training and test samples are both subject to the visual variations of poses, expressions and misalignments. We employ dense Scale-invariant feature transform(SIFT) feature matching as a generic transformation to roughly align training samples; and then identify input facial images via an improved sparse representation model based on the aligned training samples. 17Darcy-Forchheimer relation in Casson type MHD nanofluid flow over non-linear stretching surface显示文摘Present article aims to discuss the characteristics of Casson type nanofluid maintained to flow through porous medium over non-linear stretching surface in the perspective of heat and mass transfer developments.A Casson type incompressible viscous nanofluid passes through the given porous medium via Darcy-Forchheimer relation.Slip boundary conditions are used for velocity,temperature and concentration of the nanoparticles.Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis is attended.An induced magnetic field effect is involved to accentuate the thermo-physical characteristics of the nanofluid.The model incorporates boundary layer formulations and small magnetic Reynolds for practical validity.A fourth order Runge-Kutta(RK)scheme is enforced to solve the system numerically.Graphs are prepared for various progressive values of non-dimensionalized parameters whereas;variation in wall drag factor,heat and mass transfer rates is analyzed through numerical data.Results indicate that momentum boundary layer reduces for stronger inertial impact and the resistance offered by the porous media to the fluid flow.Temperature is found as a progressive function for the Brownianmotion factor and thermophoresis.The magnitude of wall drag factor,heat transfer and masstransfer rates shows reduction for progressive values of slip parameters.Ghulam Rasool Ali J.Chamkha Taseer Muhammad Anum Shafiq Ilyas Khan 2020Propulsion and Power Research2020,9,2:2
