| 1 | Minimally invasive procedures on the lumbar spine显示文摘Degenerative disease of the lumbar spine is a common and increasingly prevalent condition that is often implicated as the primary reason for chronic low back pain and the leading cause of disability in the western world. Surgical management of lumbar degenerative disease has historically been approached by way of open surgical procedures aimed at decompressing and/or stabilizing the lumbar spine. Advances in technology andsurgical instrumentation have led to minimally invasive surgical techniques being developed and increasingly used in the treatment of lumbar degenerative disease. Compared to the traditional open spine surgery, minimally invasive techniques require smaller incisions and decrease approach-related morbidity by avoiding muscle crush injury by self-retaining retractors, preventing the disruption of tendon attachment sites of important muscles at the spinous processes, using known anatomic neurovascular and muscle planes, and minimizing collateral soft-tissue injury by limiting the width of the surgical corridor. The theoretical benefits of minimally invasive surgery over traditional open surgery include reduced blood loss, decreased postoperative pain and narcotics use, shorter hospital length of stay, faster recover and quicker return to work and normal activity. | 2 | Perioperative outcomes in minimally invasive lumbar spine surgery: A systematic review显示文摘AIM: To compare minimally invasive(MIS) and open techniques for MIS lumbar laminectomy, direct lateral and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(TLIF) surgeries with respect to length of surgery, estimated blood loss(EBL), neurologic complications, perioperative transfusion, postoperative pain, postoperative narcotic use, and length of stay(LOS).METHODS: A systematic review of previously published studies accessible through Pub Med was performed. Only articles in English journals or published with English language translations were included. Level of evidence of the selected articles was assessed. Statistical data was calculated with analysis of variance with P < 0.05 considered statistically significant.RESULTS: A total of 11 pertinent laminectomy studies, 20 direct lateral studies, and 27 TLIF studies were found. For laminectomy, MIS techniques resulted in a significantly longer length of surgery(177.5 min vs 129.0 min, P = 0.04), shorter LOS(4.3 d vs 5.3 d, P = 0.01) and less perioperative pain(visual analog scale: 16 ± 17 vs 34 ± 31, P = 0.04). There is evidence of decreased narcotic use for MIS patients(postoperative intravenous morphine use: 9.3 mg vs 42.8 mg), however this difference is of unknown significance. Direct lateral approaches have insufficient comparative data to establish relative perioperative outcomes. MIS TLIF had superior EBL(352 mL vs 580 mL, P < 0.0001) and LOS(7.7 d vs 10.4 d, P < 0.0001) and limited data to suggest lower perioperative pain.CONCLUSION: Based on perioperative outcomes data, MIS approach is superior to open approach for TLIF. For laminectomy, MIS and open approaches can be chosen based on surgeon preference. | 13 | An Improved iBAT-COOP Protocol for Cooperative Diversity in FANETs显示文摘Flying ad hoc networks(FANETs)present a challenging environment due to the dynamic and highly mobile nature of the network.Dynamic network topology and uncertain node mobility structure of FANETs do not aim to consider only one path transmission.Several different techniques are adopted to address the issues arising in FANETs,from game theory to clustering to channel estimation and other statistical schemes.These approaches mostly employ traditional concepts for problem solutions.One of the novel approaches that provide simpler solutions to more complex problems is to use biologically inspired schemes.Several Nature-inspired schemes address cooperation and alliance which can be used to ensure connectivity among network nodes.One such species that resembles the dynamicity of FANETs are Bats.In this paper,the biologically inspired metaheuristic technique of the BAT Algorithm is proposed to present a routing protocol called iBATCOOP(Improved BAT Algorithm using Cooperation technique).We opt for the design implementation of the natural posture of bats to handle the necessary flying requirements.Moreover,we envision the concept of cooperative diversity using multiple relays and present an iBAT-COOP routing protocol for FANETs.This paper employs cooperation for an optimal route selection and reflects on distance,Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR),and link conditions to an efficient level to deal with FANET’s routing.By way of simulations,the performance of iBAT-COOP protocol outperforms BAT-FANET protocol and reduces packet loss ratio,end-to-end delay,and transmission loss by 81%,21%,and 82%respectively.Furthermore,the average link duration is improved by 25%compared to the BAT-FANET protocol. | Shahzad Hameed Qurratul-Ain Minhas Sheeraz Ahmed Shabana Habib Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Muhammad Islam Sheroz Khan | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,5: | 0 |

| 20 | Nodule Detection Using Local Binary Pattern Features to Enhance Diagnostic Decisions显示文摘Pulmonary nodules are small, round, or oval-shaped growths on the lungs. They can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). The size of a nodule can range from a few millimeters to a few centimeters in diameter. Nodules may be found during a chest X-ray or other imaging test for an unrelated health problem. In the proposed methodology pulmonary nodules can be classified into three stages. Firstly, a 2D histogram thresholding technique is used to identify volume segmentation. An ant colony optimization algorithm is used to determine the optimal threshold value. Secondly, geometrical features such as lines, arcs, extended arcs, and ellipses are used to detect oval shapes. Thirdly, Histogram Oriented Surface Normal Vector (HOSNV) feature descriptors can be used to identify nodules of different sizes and shapes by using a scaled and rotation-invariant texture description. Smart nodule classification was performed with the XGBoost classifier. The results are tested and validated using the Lung Image Consortium Database (LICD).
