| 3 | Surgical treatment of nonfunctioning islet cell tumor: report of 41 cases显示文摘BACKGROUND: Nonfunctioning islet cell tumor (NIT)as a rare pancreatic endocrine neoplasm is characterized byunspecific clinical symptoms and is hard to diagnose. InChina, NIT accounts for 15%-41% in pancreatic endocrineneoplasms just next to insulinoma. In this study, weevaluated the surgical modalities of NIT.METHODS: From January 1978 through February 2002, 41patients with NIT were treated at the Department of Sur-gery of the First Affiliated Hospital, China Medical Univer-sity, Shenyang, China. Tumors in the head of the pancreaswere noted in 28 patients, and in the body or in the tail in13 patients. The mean diameter of the tumors was 10. 7cm. Fifteen patients underwent enucleation and 21 receivedpancreatectomy. Tumors were unresectable in 5 patientsbecause of extensive infiltration. The mean diameter was9.6 cm in patients treated by enucleation, 13.1 cm in thoseby pancreaticoduodenectomy, 9.9 cm in those by distalpancreatectomy, and 11.6 cm in those with unresectabletumors.RESULTS: The curative resection rate was 88% (n =36),and the complication rate after enucleation and pancreatec-tomy was 33% ( n = 5 ) and 14% (n=3), respectively. Nolocal recurrence was found after both enucleation and pan-createctomy. Liver metastases occurred in 3 patients treatedby enucleation.CONCLUSIONS: Both enucleation and pancreatectomy areeffective for NIT of the pancreas. No local recurrence hasbeen found in patients treated by the two surgical proce-dures. | 6 | Tuning F-doped degree of rGO:Restraining corrosion-promotion activity of EP/rGO nanocomposite coating显示文摘Given that graphene features high electrical conductivity,it is a kind of material with corrosion-promotion activity.This study aimed to inhibit the corrosion-promotion activity of graphene in coatings.Here,we report an exciting application of epoxy matrix(EP)/F-doped reduced graphene oxide(rGO)coatings for the long-term corrosion protection of steel.The synthesized F-doped rGO(FG)did not reduce the utilization of rGO by a wide margin and possessed distinctive electrically insulating nature.The electrical conductivity of rGO was approximately 1500 S/m,whereas those of FG-1,FG-2 and FG-3 were 1.17,5.217×10^−2 and 3.643×10^-11 S/m,respectively.FG and rGO were then dispersed into epoxy coatings.The chemical structures of rGO and FG were investigated by transmission electron microscopy(TEM),scanning probe microscopy(SPM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).EP/FG coatings exhibited outstanding corrosion protection in comparison with blank EP and EP/rGO coatings mainly because the corrosion-promotion effect of rGO was eliminated.The anticorrosion ability of EP/FG coatingswasimproved with increased F-doped degree of FG.In addition,electrochemical impendance spectroscopy(EIS)results indicated that the Rc values of EP/FG-2 and EP/FG-3 were four orders of magnitude higher than those of EP/rGO in diluent NaCl solution(3.5 wt.%)after immersion for 90 days. | Lu Shen Yong Li Wenjie Zhao Kui Wang Xiaojing Ci Yangmin Wu Gang Liu Chao Liu Zhiwen Fang | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,44,9: | 5 |
| 7 | Patients with advanced primary hepatocellular carcinoma treated by melatonin and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization: a prospective study显示文摘Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of tran-scatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) andTACE+MLT (melatonin) on inoperable advancedprimary hepatocellular carcinoma.Methods: From January 1997 to January 1998, onehundred patients with inoperable advanced primaryhepatocellular carcinoma were treated separately byTACE (50) and TACE+MLT (20 mg/d at 8:00PM orally, 7 days before TACE) (50).Results: The effective rates (WHO standards) ofTACE and TACE+MLT were 16% and 28% respec-tively (P<0.05). After TACE or TACE+MLT,the resection rate at two-stage of TACE was 4% or14% (P<0. 01). The 0.5-, 1- and 2-year survivalrates in the TACE group were 82%, 54% and 26%respectively; in the TACE+MLT group 100%, 68%and 40% respectively. The results were significantlybetter in the TACE+MLT group than in the TACEgroup. MLT could protect liver function from thedamage caused by TACE. The IL-2 levels of all pa-tients significantly increased, whereas sIL-2R expres-sions decreased after TACE+MLT as compared withthe TACE group (P<0.01).Conclusions: With definite protection and treatmenteffect on the liver function damage caused by TACE,MLT can enhance the immunological activities of pa-tients. | 10 | Design of environmental decision support system and its application to water quality management显示文摘EDSS is a comprehensive software system for water quality management in tidal river networks in general and for the Pearl River Delta in particular. Its purpose is to provide a practical tool that could assist government agencies in decision making for the efficient management of water resources in terms of both quantity and quality. By combining the capabilities of geographical information system (GIS), database management system (DBMS), model base management system (MBMS) and expert system, the aim is to improve the quality of decision making in what is becoming an increasingly complex area. This paper first outlines the basic concepts and philosophy adopted in developing EDSS, the system architecture, design features, implementation techniques and facilities provided. Thereafter, the core part of the system-the hydrodynamic and water quality models are described briefly. The final contribution in this paper describes the application of EDSS to the Pearl River Delta, which has the most complicated tidal river network patterns as well as the fastest economic development in the world. Examples are given of the real-world problems that can be addressed using the system, including cross-boundary water pollution analysis, regional drinking water take-up site selection, screening of important polluters, environmental impact assessment, and water quality zoning and planning. | 18 | Liver resection versus liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma within the Milan criteria based on estimated microvascular invasion risks显示文摘Background:Preoperative prediction of microvascular invasion(MVI)in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)may optimize individualized treatment decision-making.This study aimed to investigate the prognostic differences between HCC patients undergoing liver resection(LR)and liver transplantation(LT)based on predicted MVI risks.Methods:We analysed 905 patients who underwent LR,including 524 who underwent anatomical resection(AR)and 117 who underwent LT for HCC within the Milan criteria using propensity score matching.A nomogram model was used to predict preoperative MVI risk.Results:The concordance indices of the nomogram for predicting MVI were 0.809 and 0.838 in patients undergoing LR and LT,respectively.Based on an optimal cut-off value of 200 points,the nomogram defined patients as high-or low-risk MVI groups.LT resulted in a lower 5-year recurrence rate and higher 5-year overall survival(OS)rate than LR among the high-risk patients(23.6%vs 73.2%,P<0.001;87.8%vs 48.1%,P<0.001)and low-risk patients(19.0%vs 45.7%,P<0.001;86.5%vs 70.0%,P=0.002).The hazard ratios(HRs)of LT vs LR for recurrence and OS were 0.18(95%confidence interval[CI],0.09–0.37)and 0.12(95%CI,0.04–0.37)among the high-risk patients and 0.37(95%CI,0.21–0.66)and 0.36(95%CI,0.17–0.78)among the low-risk patients.LT also provided a lower 5-year recurrence rate and higher 5-year OS rate than AR among the high-risk patients(24.8%vs 63.5%,P=0.001;86.7%vs 65.7%,P=0.004),with HRs of LT vs AR for recurrence and OS being 0.24(95%CI,0.11–0.53)and 0.17(95%CI,0.06–0.52),respectively.The 5-year recurrence and OS rates between patients undergoing LT and AR were not significantly different in the low-risk patients(19.4%vs 28.3%,P=0.129;85.7%vs 77.8%,P=0.161).Conclusions:LT was superior to LR for patients with HCC within the Milan criteria with a predicted high or low risk of MVI.No significant differences in prognosis were found between LT and AR in patients with a low risk of MVI. | Pinghua Yang Fei Teng Shilei Bai Yong Xia Zhihao Xie Zhangjun Cheng Jun Li Zhengqing Lei Kui Wang Baohua Zhang Tian Yang Xuying Wan Hao Yin Hao Shen Timothy M Pawlik Wan Yee Lau Zhiren Fu Feng Shen | 2023 | Gastroenterology Report2023,11,1: | 1 |
