1Manganese is critical for antitumor immune responses via cGAS-STING and improves the efficacy of clinical immunotherapy显示文摘CD8^+T cell-mediated cancer clearance is often suppressed by the interaction between inhibitory molecules like PD-1 and PD-L1,an interaction acts like brakes to prevent T cell overreaction under normal conditions but is exploited by tumor cells to escape the immune surveillance.Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized cancer therapeutics by removing such brakes.Unfortunately,only a minority of cancer patients respond to immunotherapies presumably due to inadequate immunity.Antitumor immunity depends on the activation of the cGAS-STING pathway,as STING-deficient mice fail to stimulate tumor-infiltrating dendritic cells(DCs)to activate CD8^+T cells.STING agonists also enhance natural killer(NK)cells to mediate the clearance of CD8^+T cell-resistant tumors.Therefore STING agonists have been intensively sought after.We previously discovered that manganese(Mn)is indispensable for the host defense against cytosolic dsDNA by activating cGAS-STING.Here we report that Mn is also essential in innate immune sensing of tumors and enhances adaptive immune responses against tumors.Mn-insufficient mice had significantly enhanced tumor growth and metastasis,with greatly reduced tumor-infiltrating CD8^+T cells.Mechanically,Mn^2+promoted DC and macrophage maturation and tumor-specific antigen presentation,augmented CD8^+T cell differentiation,activation and NK cell activation,and increased memory CD8^+T cells.Combining Mn^2+with immune checkpoint inhibition synergistically boosted antitumor efficacies and reduced the anti-PD-1 antibody dosage required in mice.Importantly,a completed phase 1 clinical trial with the combined regimen of Mn^2+and anti-PD-1 antibody showed promising efficacy,exhibiting type I IFN induction,manageable safety and revived responses to immunotherapy in most patients with advanced metastatic solid tumors.We propose that this combination strategy warrants further clinical translation.Mengze Lv Meixia Chen Rui Zhang Wen Zhang Chenguang Wang Yan Zhang Xiaoming Wei Yukun Guan Jiejie Liu Kaichao Feng Miao Jing Xurui Wang Yun-Cai Liu Qian Mei Weidong Han Zhengfan Jiang 2020Cell Research2020,30,11:27
2Remote Sensing of Ecosystem Services:An Opportunity for Spatially Explicit Assessment显示文摘Ecosystem service is an emerging concept that grows to be a hot research area in ecology.Spatially explicit ecosystem service values are important for ecosystem service management.However,it is difficult to quantify ecosystem services.Remote sensing provides images covering Earth surface,which by nature are spatially explicit.Thus,remote sensing can be useful for quantitative assessment of ecosystem services.This paper reviews spatially explicit ecosystem service studies conducted in ecology and remote sensing in order to find out how remote sensing can be used for ecosystem service assessment.Several important areas considered include land cover,biodiversity,and carbon,water and soil related ecosystem services.We found that remote sensing can be used for ecosystem service assessment in three different ways:direct monitoring,indirect monitoring,and combined use with ecosystem models.Some plant and water related ecosystem services can be directly monitored by remote sensing.Most commonly,remote sensing can provide surrogate information on plant and soil characteristics in an ecosystem.For ecosystem process related ecosystem services,remote sensing can help measure spatially explicit parameters.We conclude that acquiring good in-situ measurements and selecting appropriate remote sensor data in terms of resolution are critical for accurate assessment of ecosystem services.FENG Xiaoming FU Bojie YANG Xiaojun Lü Yihe 2010Chinese Geographical Science2010,20,6:18
3Does Experience Facilitate Entry into New Export Destinations?显示文摘Using a large panel dataset that covers 116 countries and 5013 products over the period1998-2010,this study evaluates the effects of export experience on the geographic expansion of China s exports.The results suggest that past export experience in geographically close and culturally similar markets plays a crucial role in facilitating new market entry,and the positive spillover effects are more pronounced for incumbent and successful products.The results also indicate that spillovers from export experience are market-specific and productspecific,and they are limited to within the same product class and the same market,with little cross-group effects.Finally,there is no strong evidence that export experience is more important for differentiated products than for homogeneous products,and the positive spillover effects are remarkable for both categories of products.Lili Wang Yong Zhao Xiaoming Feng 2013China & World Economy2013,21,5:13
4GIS-based Analysis for Hotspot Identification of Tradeoff Between Ecosystem Services: A Case Study in Yanhe Basin, China显示文摘Although the quantification and valuation of ecosystem services have been studied for a long time, few studies have specifically focused on the quantification of tradeoffs between ecosystem services and tradeoff hotspots. Based on previous studies of ecosystem service assessment, we proposed a feasible method to analyze the tradeoffs between ecosystem services, including determination of their relationship, quantification of tradeoffs, and identification of tradeoff hotspots. Potential influencing factors were then further analyzed. The Yanhe Basin in the Loess Plateau was selected as an example to demonstrate the application process. Firstly, the amounts of net primary production(NPP) and water yield(WY) in 2000 and 2008 were estimated by using biophysical models. Secondly, correlation analysis was used to indicate the tradeoffs between NPP and WY. Thirdly, tradeoff index(TI_(NPP/WY)) was established to quantify the extent of tradeoffs between NPP and WY, and the average value of TI_(NPP/WY) is 24.4 g/(mm·m^2) for the Yanhe Basin between 2000 and 2008. Finally, the tradeoff hotspots were identified. The results indicated that the area of lowest tradeoff index concentrated in the middle part of the Yanhe Basin and marginal areas of the southern basin. Map overlapping was used for preliminary analysis to seek potential influencing factors, and the results showed that shrub was the best suited for growing in the Yanhe Basin, but also was a potential influencing factor for formulation of the tradeoff hotspots. The concept of tradeoff index could also be used to quantify the degree of synergy between different ecosystem services. 6Image-guided locoregional non-intravascular interventional treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma: Current status显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of the most deadly and frequent cancers worldwide,although great advancement in the treatment of this malignancy have been made within the past few decades.It continues to be a major health issue due to an increasing incidence and a poor prognosis.The majority of patients have their HCC diagnosed at an intermediate or advanced stage in theUSA or China.Curative therapy such as surgical resection or liver transplantation is not considered anoption of treatment at these stages.Transarterial chemoembolization(TACE),the most widely used locoregional therapeutic approach,used to be the mainstay of treatment for cases with unresectable cancer entities.However,for those patients with hypovascular tumors or impaired liver function reserve,TACE is a suboptimal treatment option.For example,embolization does not result in complete coverage of a hypovascular tumor,and may rather promotes postoperative tumor recurrence,or leave residual tumor,in these TACE-resistance patients.In addition,TACE carries a higher risk of hepatic decompensation in patients with poor liver function or reserve.Non-vascular interventional locoregional therapies for HCC include radiofrequency ablation(RFA),microwave ablation(MWA),high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU),laser-induced thermotherapy(LITT),cryosurgical ablation(CSA),irreversible Electroporation(IRE),percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI),and brachytherapy.Recent advancements in these techniques have significantly improved the treatment efficacy of HCC and expanded the population of patients who qualify for treatment.This review embraces the current status of imaging-guided locoregional non-intravascular interventional treatments for HCCs,with a primary focus on the clinical evaluation and assessment of the efficacy of combined therapies using these interventional techniques.Kun Qian Feng Zhang Stephen K.Allison Chuansheng Zheng Xiaoming Yang 2021Journal of Interventional Medicine2021,4,1:11
7Major advances in studies of the physical geography and living environment of China during the past 70 years and future prospects显示文摘The natural environment provides material essentials for human survival and development. The characteristics,processes, regional differentiation and forcing mechanisms of the elements of the natural environment(e.g. geomorphology,climate, hydrology, soil, etc.) are the main objects of research in physical geography. China has a complex natural environment and huge regional differentiation and therefore it provides outstanding reserach opportunities in physical geography. This review summarizes the most important developments and the main contributions of research in the physical geography and human living environment in China during the past 70 years. The major topics addressed are the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau and the evolution of its cryosphere, the development of fluvial systems, the acidification of the vast arid region of the Asian interior, variations in the monsoon and westerly climate systems on multiple timescales, the development of lakes and wetlands, the watershed system model, soil erosion, past human-environment interactions, biogeography, and physical geographic zonality. After briefly introducing international research developments, we review the history of research in physical geography in China, focusing on the major achievements and major academic debates, and finally we summarize the status of current research and the future prospects. 8Deformation control of asymmetric floor heave in a deep rock roadway:A case study显示文摘In order to control asymmetric floor heave in deep rock roadways and deformation around the surrounding rock mass after excavation, in this paper we discuss the failure mechanism and coupling control countermeasures using the finite difference method(FLAC3D) combined with comparative analysis and typical engineering application at Xingcun coal mine. It is indicated by the analysis that the simple symmetric support systems used in the past led to destruction of the deep rock roadway from the key zone and resulted in the deformation of asymmetric floor heave in the roadway. Suitable reinforced support countermeasures are proposed to reduce the deformation of the floor heave and the potential risk during mining. The application shows that the present support technology can be used to better environmental conditions. 10Design of precision variable-rate spray system for unmanned aerial vehicle using automatic control method显示文摘In order to reduce the use of chemical pesticides in crop plant protection and improve the utilization efficiency of pesticides,it is necessary to study advanced application machinery and application techniques.The use of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)for pesticide spraying has the characteristics of less application,strong penetrability,wide applicability and flexible operation scheduling,and has gradually become one of the important development directions in the field of aviation plant protection.However,the operation process of the UAV is often affected by meteorological factors and human manipulation,resulting in poor actual operation with inaccurate spray volume and uneven application.Therefore,to improve the stability and uniformity of the application of the plant protection UAV under variable operating conditions,in this paper a real-time control method was proposed for the application flow rate,and a precision variable-rate spray system was designed based on single-chip microcomputer and micro diaphragm pump that can controls the flow rate of the pump in real time with the changes of the operating state.The response s-peed of the variable-rate spray system was tested.The average control response time of the system was 0.18 s,and the average stability time of the pump flow change was 0.75 s.The test results showed that the system has a quick response to the working state and the adjustment of the target flow of the pump can be quickly completed to realize the variable-rate spray function.The research results can provide a reference for the practical application of plant protection UAV variable-rate spray system.Qi Lian Feng Tan Xiaoming Fu Ping Zhang Xin Liu Wei Zhang 2019International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2019,12,2:10
11Physical model test and numerical simulation on the failure mechanism of the roadway in layered soft rocks显示文摘To explore the failure mechanism of roadway in layered soft rocks,a physical model with the physically finite elemental slab assemblage(PFESA)method was established.Infrared thermography and a video camera were employed to capture thermal responses and deformation.The model results showed that layered soft roadway suffered from large deformation.A three-dimensional distinct element code(3 DEC)model with tetrahedral blocks was built to capture the characteristics of roadway deformation,stress,and cracks.The results showed two failure patterns,layer bending fracture and layer slipping after excavation.The layer bending fracture occurred at positions where the normal direction of layers pointed to the inside of the roadway and the layer slipping occurred in the ribs.Six schemes were proposed to investigate the effects of layered soft rocks.The results showed that the deformation of ribs was obviously larger than that of the roof and floor when the roadway passed through three types of strata.When the roadway was completely in a coal seam,the change of deformation in ribs was not obvious,while the deformation in the roof and floor increased obviously.These results can provide guidance for excavation and support design of roadways in layered soft rocks.Xiaoming Sun Chengwei Zhao Yong Zhang Feng Chen Shangkun Zhang Kaiyuan Zhang 2021International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2021,31,2:9
12Cordycepin protects renal ischemia/reperfusion injury through regulating inflammation,apoptosis,and oxidative stress显示文摘Cordycepin(3-deoxyadenosine)is a naturally occurring adenosine analog and one of the bioactive constituents isolated from Cordyceps sinensis,species of the fungal genus Cordyceps.It has traditionally been a prized Chinese folk medicine for the human well-being.However,the actions of cordycepin against renal ischemia/reperfusion injury(/R)are still unknown.In the present study,rats were subject to VR and cordycepin was intragastrically administered for seven consecutive days before surgery to investigate the effects and mechanisms of cordycepin against renal/R injury.The test results of kidney and peripheral blood samples of experimental animals showed that cordycepin significantly decreased serum blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels and markedly attenuated cell injury.Mechanistic studies showed that cordycepin significantly regulated inflammation,apoptosis,and oxidative stress.These data provide new insights for investigating the natural product with the nephroprotective effect against I/R,which should be developed as a new therapeutic agent for the treatment of I/R in the future.Feng Han Meng Dou Yuxiang Wang Cuixiang Xu Yang Li Xiaoming Ding Wujun Xue Jin Zheng Puxun Tian Chenguang Ding 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,2:9
13A Study on the Xenia Effect in Castanea henryi显示文摘The xenia effect results in pollen affecting the setting rate and the appearance and quality of fruits. To further understand this phenomenon,we investigated the xenia effect in Castanea henryi using the cultivars ‘Huali 1', ‘Huali 2', ‘Huali 3', and ‘Huangzhen' as materials. Twenty combinations of self-, cross-, and natural pollination were undertaken in a chestnut orchard in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, China. Significant differences were observed among the pollination combinations in terms of the time of fruit ripening, rate of fruit setting, size of the barbed shell and nut, and content of soluble sugars, fats, proteins, amylose, and vitamin C. No significant differences were observed with regard to nut rate,content of total starch, and moisture content. The fruit quality of the 20 pollination combinations was evaluated using a subordinate function method,and showed that Huali 2 × Huali 3 was the best combination, and Huangzhen × Huangzhen was the most ineffective combination. 17Trade-offs and Synergies of Ecosystem Services in Karst Area of China Driven by Grain-for-Green Program显示文摘As an important means regulating the relationship between human and natural ecosystem,ecological restoration program plays a key role in restoring ecosystem functions.The Grain-for-Green Program(GFGP,One of the world’s most ambitious ecosystem conservation set-aside programs aims to transfer farmland on steep slopes to forestland or grassland to increase vegetation coverage)has been widely implemented from 1999 to 2015 and exerted significant influence on land use and ecosystem services(ESs).In this study,three ecological models(In VEST,RUSLE,and CASA)were used to accurately calculate the three key types of ESs,water yield(WY),soil conservation(SC),and net primary production(NPP)in Karst area of southwestern China from 1982 to 2015.The impact of GFGP on ESs and trade-offs was analyzed.It provides practical guidance in carrying out ecological regulation in Karst area of China under global climate change.Results showed that ESs and trade-offs had changed dramatically driven by GFGP.In detail,temporally,SC and NPP exhibited an increasing trend,while WY exhibited a decreasing trend.Spatially,SC basically decreased from west to east;NPP basically increased from north to south;WY basically increased from west to east;NPP and SC,SC and WY developed in the direction of trade-offs driven by the GFGP,while NPP and WY developed in the direction of synergy.Therefore,future ecosystem management and restoration policy-making should consider trade-offs of ESs so as to achieve sustainable provision of ESs.WANG Xiaofeng ZHANG Xinrong FENG Xiaoming LIU Shirong YIN Lichang CHEN Yongzhe 2020Chinese Geographical Science2020,30,1:8

19Relay-intercropping soybean with maize maintains soil fertility and increases nitrogen recovery efficiency by reducing nitrogen input显示文摘Optimized nitrogen(N)management can increase N-use efficiency in intercropping systems.Legume-nonlegume intercropping systems can reduce N input by exploiting biological N fixation by legumes.Measurement of N utilization can help in dissecting the mechanisms underlying N uptake and utilization in legume-nonlegume intercropping systems.An experiment was performed with three planting patterns:monoculture maize(MM),monoculture soybean(SS),and maize-soybean relay intercropping(IMS),and three N application levels:zero N(NN),reduced N(RN),and conventional N(CN)to investigate crop N uptake and utilization characteristics.N recovery efficiency and 15N recovery rate of crops were higher under RN than under CN,and those under RN were higher under intercropping than under the corresponding monocultures.Compared with MM,IMS showed a lower soil N-dependent rate(SNDR)in 2012.However,the SNDR of MM rapidly declined from 86.8%in 2012 to 49.4%in 2014,whereas that of IMS declined slowly from 75.4%in 2012 to 69.4%in 2014.The interspecific N competition rate(NCRms)was higher under RN than under CN,and increased yearly.Soybean nodule dry weight and nitrogenase activities were respectively 34.2%and 12.5%higher under intercropping than in monoculture at the beginning seed stage.The amount(Ndfa)and ratio(%Ndfa)of soybean N2 fixation were significantly greater under IS than under SS.In conclusion,N fertilizer was more efficiently used under RN than under CN;in particular,the relay intercropping system promoted N fertilizer utilization in comparison with the corresponding monocultures.An intercropping system helps to maintain soil fertility because interspecific N competition promotes biological N fixation by soybean by reducing N input.Thus,a maize-soybean relay intercropping system with reduced N application is sustainable and environmentally friendly.Qing Du Li Zhou Ping Chen Xiaoming Liu Chun Song Feng Yang Xiaochun Wang Weiguo Liu Xin Sun Junbo Du Jiang Liu Kai Shu Wenyu Yang Taiwen Yong 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,1:7
