| 1 | Clinicopathologic factors and molecular markers related to lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To analyze predictive factors for lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer.METHODS: We analyzed 1104 patients with early gastric cancer(EGC) who underwent a gastrectomy with lymph-node dissection from May 2003 through July 2011. The clinicopathologic factors and molecular markers were assessed as predictors for lymph node metastasis. Molecular markers such as microsatellite instability, human mut L homolog 1, p53, epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2) were included. The χ2 test and logistic regression analysis were used to determine clinicopathologic parameters.RESULTS: Lymph node metastasis was observed in 104(9.4%) of 1104 patients. Among 104 cases of lymph node positive patients, 24 patients(3.8%) were mucosal cancers and 80 patients(16.7%) were submucosal. According to histologic evaluation, the number of lymph node metastasis found was 4(1.7%) for well differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma, 45(11.3%) for moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma, 36(14.8%) for poorly differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma, and 19(8.4%) for signet ring cell carcinoma. Of 690 EGC cases, 77 cases(11.2%) showed EGFR overexpression. HER2 overexpression was present in 110 cases(27.1%) of 406 EGC patients. With multivariate analysis, female gender(OR = 2.281, P = 0.009), presence of lymphovascular invasion(OR = 10.950, P < 0.0001), diameter(≥ 20 mm, OR = 3.173, P = 0.01), and EGFR overexpression(OR = 2.185, P = 0.044) were independent risk factors for lymph node involvement.CONCLUSION: Female gender, tumor size, lymphovascular invasion and EGFR overexpression were predictive risk factors for lymph node metastasis in EGC. | Eun Hyo Jin Dong Ho Lee Sung-Ae Jung Ki-Nam Shim Ji Yeon Seo Nayoung Kim Cheol Min Shin Hyuk Yoon Hyun Chae Jung | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,2: | 30 |
| 2 | Targeted and effective photodynamic therapy for cancer using functionalized nanomaterials显示文摘Photodynamic therapy(PDT) is an emerging, non-invasive therapeutic strategy that involves photosensitizer(PS) drugs and external light for the treatment of diseases. Despite the great progress in PS-mediated PDT, their clinical applications are still hampered by poor water solubility and tissue/cell specificity of conventional PS drugs. Therefore, great efforts have been made towards the development of nanomaterials that can tackle fundamental challenges in conventional PS drug–mediated PDT for cancer treatment. | 3 | Impact of tumor location on clinical outcomes of gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection显示文摘AIM:To determine whether there is a correlation between the location of the lesion and endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)outcome.METHODS:From January 2008 to December 2010,ESD of 1443 gastric tumors was performed.En bloc resection rate,complete resection rate,procedure time and complication rate were analyzed according to the tumor location.RESULTS:The rates of en bloc resection and complete resection were 91%(1318/1443)and 89%(1287/1443),respectively.The post-ESD bleeding rate was 4.3%,and perforation rate was 2.7%.Tumors located in the upper third of the stomach were associated with a longer procedure time and significantly higher rates of incomplete resection,piecemeal resection,and perforation than tumors below the upper third of the stomach.Posterior wall lesions had significantly longer procedure times and higher rates of incomplete resection and piecemeal resection than lesions in other locations.In multivariate analysis,posterior wall lesions and upper third lesions were significantly associated with incomplete resection and perforation,respectively.In post-ESD bleeding analysis,location was not a significant related factor.CONCLUSION:More advanced endoscopic techniques are required during ESD for lesions located in the upper third or posterior wall of the stomach to decrease complications and improve therapeutic outcomes. | Ji Young Yoon Choong Nam Shim Sook Hee Chung Wan Park Hyunsoo Chung Hyuk Lee Sung Kwan Shin Sang Kil Lee Yong Chan Lee Jun Chul Park | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,26: | 10 |

| 5 | Anti-obesity Effects of Ginsenosides in High-Fat Diet-Fed Rats显示文摘Objective: To examine the anti-obesity effects of ginsenosides in Korea Red Ginseng(KRG, Panax ginseng) in rats fed with a high-fat diet(HFD). Methods: Twenty-five 4-week-old obesity rats after receiving an HFD for 5 weeks;subsequently, they were additionally treated with ginsenosides Rb1, Rd, Rg1, or Re(10 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection) for a further 3 weeks(n=5 in each group). The control rats were fed a normal diet. The food consumption, body weight, locomotor activity, serum lipids, adipose tissues, nitric oxide(NO) expression, leptin, neuropeptide Y(NPY), cholecystokinin(CCK) in the brains were measured. Results: In the HFD-fed rats, body weight, body fat mass, serum levels of leptin and NO were significantly higher than in the control rats(P<0.05 or P<0.01). However, the treatment of Rd, Re, and Rb1 markedly decreased body fat mass and body weight(P<0.05). The serum level of leptin and NO in ginsenoside-treated rats were markedly lower than the control group(P<0.01). The expression of NPY and CCK in the hypothalamic nuclei showed insignificant difference among groups. However, the expression of NPY immunoreactive neurons in the hypothalamus was significantly reduced in the Rb1-treated group(P<0.05).
