| 1 | Solvent extraction of neodymium(Ⅲ) from acidic nitrate medium using Cyanex 921 in kerosene显示文摘The extraction of neodymium(Ⅲ) from acidic nitrate medium was investigated using Cyanex 921 as extractant in kerosene. The metal concentration in the aqueous phase before and after extraction was determined spectrophotometrically by Arsenazo Ⅲ method. The complete equilibration was achieved in 15 min. The effects of shaking time, nitric acid concentration, nitrate concentration, extractant concentration, and temperature on the extraction were studied. The extraction of Nd(Ⅲ) was found to increase very slowly with increase in concentration of HNO3 in the range of 0.001-0.008 mol/L and then decreased when 0.01 mol/L HNO3 was used. The percentage of extraction was increased with increase in nitrate concentration from 0.01-0.45 mol/L and then decreased when nitrate concentration increased to 0.5 mol/L. Quantitative extraction of Nd(Ⅲ) (98%) was obtained from the aqueous phase containing 0.001 mol/L HNO3 and 0.1 mol/L KNO3 using 0.5 mol/L Cyanex 921. On the basis of slope analysis, the extracted complex in the organic phase was proposed to be Nd(NO3)3.2Cyanex 921. The extraction of Nd(III) was found to increase with increase in concentration of metal ion in the range of 0.001-0.05 mol/L from 0.001 mol/L HNO3 and 0.1 mol/L KNO3 with 0.1 mol/L Cyanex 921. The percentage of extraction of neodymium was found to decrease with increase in temperature. From temperature variation studies, the negative value of △H indicated the extraction reaction to be exothermic and the negative value of △S indicated the formation of a stable complex. | 6 | Leukemic stromal hematopoietic microenvironment negatively regulates the normal hematopoiesis in mouse model of leukemia显示文摘Background and Objective: Leukemic microenvironment has a major role in the progression of leukemia. Leukemic cells can induce reversible changes in microenvironmental components, especially the stromal function which results in improved growth conditions for maintaining the malignant leukemic cells. This study aimed to investigate the survival advantage of leukemic cells over normal hematopoietic cells in stromal microenvironment in long term. Methods: The mice were injected intraperitoneally with N-N’ ethylnitrosourea (ENU) to induce leukemia; the mice received injection of normal saline were used as control. At 180 days after ENU induction, the mice were killed and the bone marrows were cultured for 19 days. Colony-forming assays were used to analyze the formation of various cell colonies. The expression of Sca-1, CD146, VEGFR2, CD95, pStat3, pStat5, and Bcl-xL in marrow cells were detected by flow cytometry. Results: Long-term leukemic bone marrow culture showed abnormal elongated stromal fibroblasts with almost absence of normal hematopoietic cells. Adherent cell colonies were increased, but CFU-F and other hematopoietic cell colonies were significantly decreased in leukemia group (P< 0.001). Primitive progenitor-specific Sca-1 receptor expression was decreased with subsequent increased expression of CD146 and VEGFR-2 in leukemic bone marrow cells. Decreased Fas antigen expression with increased intracellular pStat3, pStat5 and Bcl-xL proteins were observed in leukemic bone marrow cells. Conclusions: Stromal microenvironment shows altered morphology and decreased maturation in leukemia. Effective progenitor cells are decreased in leukemia with increased leukemia-specific cell population. | 7 | Biotechnological intervention in Betelvine(Piper betle L.):A review on recent advances and future prospects显示文摘Betelvine(Piper betle L.) is cultivated for its deep green heart shaped leaf for(15-20) million Indian and 2 billion foreign consumers annually. The crop provides Rs(6 000-7 000) million of national income per year and at the same time leaves worth Rs(30-40) million is exported to other countries. The leaves are not only used directly for chewing purposes but also possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, anti-cancer and anti-microbial properties. Besides, the leaves also contain eugenol rich essential oil(1%-3%) which is the source for medicine, stimulant, antiseptic, tonic and other ayurvedic formulations. The essential oil also contains chavibetol, caryophyllene and methyl eugenol which are the potent source for preparation in ayurvedic medicine and herbal products. Cost of betelvine essential oil is 10$ per 5 mL. In spite of its great economical and medicinal importance betelvine is still neglected by the researchers for proper characterization and authentication for selection of elite landraces. Lack of awareness among people, use of same planting material for many generations, existing of many synonyms for a single landraces, no proper characterization of available landraces are some of the significant constraints for its commercialization. Our review endeavours a complete advance in the research on betelvine, existing lacunae for its proper characterization and commercial cultivation. | 12 | Correlation between soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products levels and coronary artery disease in postmenopausal nondiabetic women显示文摘BACKGROUND The established cardiovascular risk factors cannot explain the overall risk of coronary artery disease(CAD),especially in women.Therefore,there is a growing need for the assessment of novel biomarkers to identify women at risk.The receptor for advanced glycation end products(RAGE)and its interaction with the advanced glycation end product(AGE)ligand have been associated with atherogenesis.The soluble fraction of RAGE(sRAGE)antagonizes RAGE signaling and exerts an antiatherogenic effect.AIM The study aim was to explore the association between plasma levels of sRAGE and CAD in nondiabetic postmenopausal women.METHODS This case-control study included 110 nondiabetic postmenopausal women who were enrolled in two groups.Group I included 55 angiographically proven CAD subjects with>50%stenosis in at least one of the major coronary arteries and Group II included 55 healthy control women who did not have CAD or had<50%stenosis of the coronary arteries.Stenosis was confirmed by invasive angiography.Plasma sRAGE was determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS We observed significantly lower plasma sRAGE concentrations in subjects with CAD vs healthy controls(P<0.05).Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis also revealed a significant correlation between plasma sRAGE levels and CAD(P=0.01).Multivariate odds ratios for CAD revealed that subjects with sRAGE concentrations below 225 pg/mL(lowest quartile)had a 6-fold increase in CAD prevalence independent of other risk factors.CONCLUSION Our findings indicated that low sRAGE levels were independently associated with CAD in nondiabetic postmenopausal women.Risk assessment of CAD in postmenopausal women can be improved by including sRAGE along with other risk factors. | Soumitra Ghosh Divya Kapoor Rajesh Vijayvergiya Sonal Sangwan Sujata Wangkheimayum Sakshi Mehta Veena Dhawan | 2021 | World Journal of Cardiology2021,13,5: | 2 |
