2Far-red light: A regulator of plant morphology and photosynthetic capacity显示文摘Plant photosynthetic capacity directly determines crop yield. Light quality regulates photosynthetic capacity. This review discusses plant responses to far-red light from the phenotypic to the molecular level, focusing specifically on the improvement of photosynthetic capacity by adjustment of photosynthetic electron transport and the path of light energy. Far-red light can also regulate leaf angle and increase plant height and leaf area, via expression of associated genes, to capture more light energy.Thus, far-red light regulates plant morphology and photosynthetic capacity. 3Structure and antibacterial activity of Ce3+ exchanged montmorillonites显示文摘Four kinds of Ce3+ exchanged montmorillonites(Ce/MMTs) were prepared by an ion-exchange reaction, and characterized with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray difference (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron micros-copy (SEM). The surface properties and antibacterial activity of Ce/MMTs were also investigated. The chemical compositions of Ce/MMTs were determined, and the cerium of Ce/MMTs was confirmed to be present as trivalent cerium state. The d001 basal spacings of Ce/MMTs were enlarged with the enhancement of the cerium contents, and the particles were formed with irregular shape. On increasing the Ce con-tents of Ce/MMTs, the special surface areas were decreased, but the total pore volumes and the average pore sizes were increased. The anti-bacterial activity of Ce/MMTs is increased with increasing the cerium contents, and 1.5g/L of Ce/MMT-3 containing 11.46wt.% of curium could remove all the Staphylococcus aureus and more than 99.9% of the Escherichia coli within 24.0 h of contact. 8A(CrFeNi)_(83)(AlTi)_(17) high-entropy alloy matrix solid-lubricating composite with exceptional tribological properties over a wide temperature range显示文摘High-entropy alloy matrix solid-lubricating composites(HSLCs)are promising anti-wear and friction-reduced materials to meet the demands of complicated engineering applications.Here we present a strat-egy to develop HSLCs by using the coupled high-entropy phases of(BCC+FCC+L2_(1))with near-equal volume fraction as the matrix material,instead of using the usual single phase-dominated high-entropy phases,which can preserve the intrinsic strength and deformability of the matrix while activating adap-tive wear protection during sliding.This enables a low coefficient of frictions of 0.23-0.31 and wear rates within the order of 10^(-6)-10^(-5) mm^(3) N m^(-1) for the(CrFeNi)_(83)(AlTi)_(17)-Ag-BaF_(2)/CaF_(2) HSLC between room-temperature and 800℃,considerably outperforming the reported HSLCs and conventional alloy matrix solid-lubricating composites.At low and moderate temperatures,the synergistic Ag-BaF_(2)/CaF_(2) lubricat-ing films eliminate the surface stress concentration upon wear,thus suppressing three-body abrasion and surface roughening during the groove multiplication process.At elevated temperatures,the high-entropy composite tribo-layers provide the friction interface with strong and deformable stress shielding,which avoids the oxidative and adhesive wear triggered by the delamination of the tribo-layer.Developing sim-ilar coupled high-entropy matrix phases may open an avenue for further optimization of the tribological properties of the HSLCs.Yushan Geng Jun Cheng Hui Tan Qichun Sun Juanjuan Chen Shengyu Zhu Anh Kiet Tieu Jun Yang Weimin Liu 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,22:0
9A genetically engineered Escherichia coli that senses and degrades tetracycline antibiotic residue显示文摘Due to the abuse of antibiotics,antibiotic residues can be detected in both natural environment and various industrial products,posing threat to the environment and human health.Here we describe the design and implementation of an engineered Escherichia coli capable of degrading tetracycline(Tc)-one of the commonly used antibiotics once on humans and now on poultry,cattle and fisheries.A Tcdegrading enzyme,TetX,from the obligate anaerobe Bacteroides fragilis was cloned and recombinantly expressed in E.coli and fully characterized,including its Km and kcat value.We quantitatively evaluated its activity both in vitro and in vivo by UVeVis spectrometer and LC-MS.Moreover,we used a tetracycline inducible amplification circuit including T7 RNA polymerase and its specific promoter PT7 to enhance the expression level of TetX,and studied the dose-response of TetX under different inducer concentrations.Since the deployment of genetically modified organisms(GMOs)outside laboratory brings about safety concerns,it is necessary to explore the possibility of integrating a kill-switch.Toxin-Antitoxin(TA)systems were used to construct a mutually dependent host-plasmid platform and biocontainment systems in various academic and industrious situations.We selected nine TA systems from various bacteria strains and measured the toxicity of toxins(T)and the detoxifying activity of cognate antitoxins(A)to validate their potential to be used to build a kill-switch.These results prove the possibility of using engineered microorganisms to tackle antibiotic residues in environment efficiently and safely.Zepeng Mu Zhuoning Zou Ye Yang Wenbo Wang Yue Xu Jianyi Huang Ruiling Cai Ye Liu Yajin Mo Boyi Wang Yiqun Dang Yongming Li Yushan Liu Yueren Jiang Qingyang Tan Xiaohong Liu Cheng Hu Hua Li Sha Wei Chunbo Lou Yang Yu Jiangyun Wang 2018Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2018,3,3:0
10The ZFP541-KCTD19 complex is essential for pachytene progression by activating meiotic genes during mouse spermatogenesis显示文摘Meiosis is essential for fertility in sexually reproducing species and this sophisticated process has been extensively studied.Notwithstanding these efforts,key factors involved in meiosis have not been fully characterized.In this study,we investigate the regulatory roles of zinc finger protein 541(ZFP541)and its interacting protein potassium channel tetramerization domain containing 19(KCTD19)in spermatogenesis.ZFP541 is expressed from leptotene to the round spermatid stage,while the expression of KCTD19 is initiated in pachytene.Depletion of Zfp541 or Kctd19 leads to infertility in male mice and delays progression from early to mid/late pachynema.In addition,Zfp541^(-/-)spermatocytes show abnormal programmed DNA double-strand break repair,impaired crossover formation and resolution,and asynapsis of the XY chromosomes.ZFP541 interacts with KCTD19,histone deacetylase 1/2(HDAC1/2),and deoxynucleotidyl transferase terminal-interacting protein 1(DNTTIP1).Moreover,ZFP541 binds to and activates the expression of genes involved in meiosis and post-meiosis including Kctd19;in turn,KCTD19 promotes the transcriptional activation activity of ZFP541.Taken together,our studies reveal that the ZFP541/KCTD19 signaling complex,acting as a key transcription regulator,plays an indispensable role in male fertility by regulating pachytene progression.Yushan Li Ranran Meng Shanze Li Bowen Gu Xiaotong Xu Haihang Zhang Xinshui Tan Tianyu Shao Jiawen Wang Dan Xu Fengchao Wang 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,11:0
11Influence of diet quantity on learning and memory ability and immunological function in mice显示文摘BACKGROUND: Diet can regulate gene expression via manifesting genetic style so as to make a correlation with senility and tumor onset of tissue organs. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of diet quantity on learning and memory ability and immunological function changes in mice and verify the correlation between functional changes and diet quantity. DESIGN: Completely randomized grouping design. SETTINGS: Three Gorges University Medical College; School of Medicine, Hubei Institute for Nationalities. MATERIALS: Eighty Kunming mice of 3 weeks old, grade Ⅱ, weighing 17-18 g and either gender, were selected from Animal Experimental Center, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The experimental animals were disposed according to ethical criteria. At one week after feeding, they were randomly divided into 4 groups, including over-diet group, quantitative-diet group, quantitative-limit diet group and over-limit diet group with 20 mice in each group. METHODS: The experiment was carried out in the Medical Experimental Center of Hubei Institute for Nationalities and the Department of Laboratory, Central Hospital of Hubei Enshi Autonomous Prefecture from April to June 2006. ① Diet quantity of animals was > 6 g/d in the over-diet group, 4 g/d in the quantitative-diet group, 3.34 g/d in the quantitative-limit diet group and 1.8 g/d in the over-limit diet group, respectively. Mice in the four groups drank freely. ② At 35 days after feeding, every 10 mice were randomly selected from each group and enclosed in the wide mouthed bottle (250 mL, containing sodalime) to observe and record survival time under normal pressure and hypoxic condition. Other mice were given step down test, shuttle box test and autonomic activity test. Step down test: The first step-down latency and error times within 5 minutes were used to evaluate learning ability and the memory ability was retested at 24 hours later. Shuttle box test: The shuttle-box latency and error times within 5 minutes were used to evaluate learning ability and the memory ability was retested at 24 hours later. Times of autonomic activity within 5 minutes were used to evaluate ability of autonomic activity. In addition, blood was collected from eyeball to measure plasma immune globulin and complement by using immunoturbidimetry. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Effect of different diet quantity on learning and memory ability; ② effect of different diet quantity on times of autonomic activity and survival time under hypoxia and normal pressure; ③ effect of different diet quantity on content of immune globulin and complement. RESULTS: All 80 mice were involved in the final analysis. ① Effect of different diet quantity on learning and memory ability: There was no significant difference in learning ability during step down test (P > 0.05). While, memory ability in the over-diet group and the quantitative-diet group was better than that in the over-limit diet group (t =2.235-2.423, P < 0.05). During shuttle box test, learning and memory ability in the over-diet group was superior to that in the over-limit diet group (t =2.237-2.431, P < 0.05). While, memory ability in the quantitative-diet group and quantitative-limit diet group was superior to that in the over-limit group (t =2.704-2.813, P < 0.05). ② Effect of different diet quantity on times of autonomic activity and survival time under hypoxia and normal pressure: There were significant differences in the times of autonomic activity among quantitative-diet group, quantitative-limit diet group and over-limit diet group (t = 2.725-2.98, P < 0.05). Survival time in the quantitative-diet group and the quantitative-limit diet group was longer than that in the over-diet group (t =2.365, 2.719, P < 0.05), but shorter than that in the over-limit diet group (t =2.427, 2.538, P < 0.05). While, survival time in the over-limit diet group was longer than that in the over-diet group (t =2.765, P < 0.01). ③ Effect of different diet quantity on content of immune globulin and complement: There was no significant difference in content of IgG and IgA (P > 0.05). Content of IgM in the over-limit diet group was higher than that in the over-diet group, quantitative-diet group and quantitative-limit diet group (t =2.304-2.421, P < 0.05). Contents of complement C3 and C4 in thequantitative-diet group and quantitative-limit diet group were higher than those in the over-diet group (t = 2.319-2.738, P < 0.05), but lower than those in the over-limit diet group (t =2.317-2.716, P < 0.05). While, contents of C3 and C4 in the over-limit diet group were higher than those in the over-diet group (t =3.247, 4.53, P < 0.01). 12A combined error calibration technique with experiment for frequency-space spectrum estimation显示文摘The mechanism of the performance degradation for space-frequency spectrum estimation due to channel mismatching and sensor coupling is analyzed. In order to overcome existed methods’ limitation that can only compensate one or two influent factors, a new comprehensive calibration method that can compensate channel mismatching and sensor coupling is proposed which improves the calibration precision greatly. It is applied to estimate directions and frequencies simultaneously, and am important conclusion that these influent factors can not edict frequency-estimations is drawn. 16Biomimetic,fire-resistant,ultralight and porous carbon fiber sponges enabling safe and efficient remediation of crude oil spills in harsh environments显示文摘Advanced absorbents must meet the requirements of superior hydrophobic/oleophilic behavior,favorable adsorption efficiency,and high photothermal and Joule heating performance to handle frequent crude oil spills.However,current carbon-based absorbents suffer from poor fire resistance,thus severely limiting their application in harsh environments.Herein,inspired by a bird’s nest,a polymer“welding”strategy is proposed to design a versatile absorbent in which the polymer serves as a“binder”to interconnect discontinuous fibers together to form a 3D welded structure.The continuous conductive networks endow the absorbent with high photothermal and Joule heating effect,thus achieving all-weather adsorption,and improving the adsorption efficiency of crude oil via the self-heating function.Compared with other absorbents,the absorbent prepared via polymer welding technology exhibited preferable comprehensive performance,such as superhydrophobicity,high fire resistance,and high absorption efficiency.Specially,the noninflammable absorbent can restrain the combustion of crude oil,thereby reducing its combustion in case of fire.The versatile absorbent is expected to provide a promising solution for the safe and effi-cient cleanup of crude oil spills in harsh environments.Overall,the unique polymer welding strategy can be developed into a universal strategy for other material systems to expand their applications.Yushan Li Songjun Yao Song Yan Mei Xu Long Zheng Fei Pan Yeqiang Tan Xianze Yin 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,27:0
