| 3 | Dietary energy intake affects fetal survival and development during early and middle pregnancy in Large White and Meishan gilts显示文摘This experiment was designed to determine the effects of variations in dietary energy intake on reproductive performance and gene expression of luteal and endometrium tissues in Large White(LW)and Meishan(MS) gilts during early and middle pregnancy. After insemination, 32 LW gilts were assigned to high and low(HE_Land LE_L, 14.23 and 12.56 MJ DE/kg, respectively) diet treatment groups,while 32 MS gilts were allocated to HE_M and LE_M(12.56 and 10.88 MJ DE/kg) groups. Gilts were slaughtered on days 35, 55 and 90 of gestation. The fetal survival and luteal progesterone(P_4) concentration in the HE_Lgroup were higher on day 35 but lower on day 90 of gestation compared with the LE_L group(P < 0.05) for LW gilts. However, fetal survival and luteal P_4 concentration on day 35 of gestation were greater(P < 0.05) in the LE_M group than in the HE_M group for MS gilts, but no significant difference in mid-gestation was showed. The fetal weights of both breeds were higher for the high energy diets compared with the respective control group on day 90 of gestation(P < 0.05). In addition,the m RNA levels of P_4 synthesis-related proteins had correlated with luteal P_4 concentration in both breeds. Further, endometrial levels of uteroferrin(ACP5), retinol-binding protein 4(RBP_4) and secreted phosphoprotein 1(SPP1) m RNA were upregulated in the HE_Lgroup on day 35 of gestation but ACP5 and SPP1 were downregulated on day 55 of gestation compared with the LE_Lgroup(P < 0.05) for LW gilts. In MS gilts, diet only affected the expression of SPP1(P < 0.05). Our results revealed the differential sensitivity of LW and MS breeds to variations in dietary energy intake. For LW gilts, the HE_Lgroup improved fetal survival on day 35 but a sustained high energy diet decreased fetal survival on day 90 of gestation. The differences in dietary energy intake did not influence fetal survival on day 90 of gestation but the higher energy diet did increase fetal weight in the MS breed compared with the lower energy intake diet. | 4 | High mixing effectiveness lobed nozzles and mixing mechanisms显示文摘For a circular lobed nozzle with the exit plane displaced from the center body,adding a central plug at exit or replacing the nozzle with an alternating-lobe nozzle can improve the mixing effectiveness.In this study,numerical investigations of jet mixing in the lobed nozzles with a central plug and alternating-lobe nozzles in pumping operation were conducted.The effects of the central plugs with the wake ranging from attached to separated flow on the mixing were analyzed,along with the mechanism of improving the mixing performance in a'sword'alternating-lobe nozzle.The simulation results reveal that the large-scale mixing rate,which is dominated by streamwise vortices,is related to the intensity of the attainable heat and mass transfer in the streamwise vortices.The effects of the streamwise vortices on the normal vortex ring are virtually a manifestation of the heat and mass transfer/mixing process of the streamwise vortices.The simulation results also show that the central plug with the attached rear-flow performs better in improving the mixing effectiveness and pumping performance;on the contrary,if the rear-flow is separated,more pressure loss will be induced.In particular,a completely separated flow over the rear of the central plug will severely degrade the attainable heat and mass transfer in the streamwise vortices.For the sword alternating-lobe nozzle,wider sword deep troughs help to increase the flux of the secondary stream around the core region and delay the confluence of the primary stream in the region between the deep and shallow troughs.Thus,the mixing is improved in the middle and posterior segments.Compared to the lobed nozzle with a central plug,the improved sword alternating-lobe nozzle can achieve a higher mixing effectiveness with much less pressure loss,which is preferred in situations when the power loss of the engine is restricted. | SHENG ZhiQiang CHEN ShiChun WU Zhe HUANG PeiLin | 2015 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2015,58,7: | 3 |

| 6 | Floating Population Increase and Its Influence on the Urban Population Situation:A Case Study in Beijing显示文摘Floating population is a special population group in China resulting from the implementation of household registration system. This paper uses a set of floating population survey data, population censuses data and statistical data to analyze the increase and influence of floating population on the urban population situations in Beijing. It is found that Beijing has experienced a rapid increase of floating population since the 1990s and that the increase of this group has become the key factor of the current population expansion in the city. Its distribution in the urban regions intensified and extended the suburbanization process of the capital. | 10 | Sustainable development of Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration:a scenario analysis based on water shortage and water environment changes显示文摘China has experienced a rapid urbanization since late 1970s. The great increase of urban population has resulted in various environmental changes, of which urban water shortage and water environment problems have oc-curred in most cities, especially in the rapidly developing urban agglomerations in the eastern coastal region. This research, taking Shandong Peninsula Urban Agglomeration (SPUA) as a case study area, analyzes the urbanization expansion in the last decades, discusses the water shortage and water environment changes following the rapid eco-nomic development and urbanization such as groundwater sinking in the urban and plain area, sea water and salt-water intrusion in the coastal cities, water pollution overspreading and water ecosystem degradation, and puts for-wards some strategies for sustainability in populous regions with severe water shortage. | 17 | Abnormal gonad development in Kit^(W-2Bao) mice caused by a Kit gene missense mutation显示文摘KitW-2Bao mice are single-gene autosomal dominant mutation mice with a B6 background that were bred in our laboratory. Heterozygotes had morphological characteristics including albinism of the abdomen, extremities, and tail, whereas the homozygotes had albinism of the body, black eyes, and infertility. The homozygous mutants showed small, structurally abnormal gonads, and lacked germ cells. Heterozygous male mice lacked germ cells in some contorted seminiferous tubules. This mutation has been mapped at 43.8 cM from the centromere in chromosome 5 by linkage analysis and Kit has been identified as the candidate gene. After Kit full-length mRNA amplification, it was found that a G to T conversion at position 1228 in the ORF changed the 410th amino acid from V to F. This amino acid change could affect the protein’s secondary structure. Heterozygous mutant mice were intercrossed and homozygous mutant mice were bred and genotyped. We found that no primordial germ cells (PGCs) appeared in the urogenital ridge area at fetus day 11.5 in the homozygotes. The number of PGCs also significantly decreased in heterozygotes. At fetus day 15.5, the differentiation of the testis tubule structure was unclear; as well, they contained no spermatogonia. Female homozygotes contained no primordial follicles in the ovary. The numbers of PGCs and primordial follicles were significantly decreased in heterozygous mice. | 18 | Rational design ternary platinum based electrocatalysts for effective methanol oxidation reaction显示文摘Exploring effective, durable, and affordable electrocatalysts of methanol oxidation reaction(MOR) is of vital significance for the industrial application of direct methanol fuel cells. Herein, an efficient, general,and expandable method is developed to synthesis two-dimensional(2D) ternary Pt Bi M nanoplates(NPLs), in which various M(Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sn) is severed as the third component to the binary Pt Bi system. The MOR performance of Pt Bi M NPLs is entirely investigated, demonstrating that both the MOR activity and durability is enhanced with the introduction of the additional composition. Pt3Bi3Zn NPLs shows much higher MOR activity and stability than that of the Pt Bi counterparts, not to mention the current advanced Pt Ru/C and Pt/C catalysts. The prominent performances are attributed to the modulated electronic structure of the surface Pt in Pt Bi NPLs by the addition of Zn, resulting in a weakened affination between Pt and the adsorbed poisoning species(mainly CO) compared with Pt Bi NPLs, verified by density functional theory(DFT) calculations. In addition, the absorbed OH can be generated on the surface of Zn atom due to its favorable water activation properties, thus the CO removal on the adjacent Pt atoms is accelerated, further leading to a high activity and anti-poisoning performance of the resulting Pt_(3)Bi_(3)Zn catalyst. | 19 | Bacterial community composition in gut content and ambient sediment of two tropical wild sea cucumbers(Holothuria atra and H.leucospilota)显示文摘Sea cucumbers play an important role in sediment bioturbation in coral reef and rocky intertidal ecosystems,and bacteria were a commonly-reported component of holothuroid diets.Bacterial community composition in the foregut and hindgut of two common tropical sea cucumbers(Holothuria atra and H.leucospilota)and the ambient surface sediment were investigated using high throughput sequencing based on 16S rRNA gene analysis.A total of 5584 operational taxonomic units(OTUs)were obtained from 25 samples based on a 97%threshold,and more than half of the OTUs(n=3694,66.2%)were shared by the gut contents of two species of sea cucumbers and surrounding sediments.Bacterial richness and diversity in sediment samples were signifi cantly higher than those in the gut content samples(P<0.05).Proteobacteria was the predominant phylum in most samples showing 45.69%±8.61%,70.09%±4.03%,45.88%±5.38%,and 55.19%±0.79%reads in the foregut of H.leucospilota,hindgut of H.leucospilota,hindgut of H.atra,and sediment libraries,respectively,but Bacteroidetes was the predominant phylum with the relative content of 34.98%±5.52%in the foregut of H.atra.Among the dominant genera,reads related to the genera Anderseniella,Ilumatobacter,and Ruegeria were detected in all the gut contents and sediment libraries.A comparison of gut bacteria community between the two species of sea cucumbers suggested that H.atra had stronger feeding preference than H.leucospilota,and the same types of microbes escaped digestion of the two sea cucumber species.Obvious diff erent bacterial community composition in the foreguts of the two species of sea cucumbers and the surrounding sediments might result from the animal’s selective feeding for sediment patches.Bacterial community structure in hindgut contents of H.atra and H.leucospilota both diff ered clearly from adjacent sediments,which indicated feeding activity of deposit-feeding sea cucumbers could change the sedimental bacterial composition.In conclusion,from the perspective of bacteria,sea cucumber H.atra and H.leucospilota had diff erent feeding preferences,yet they could both aff ect bacterial composition in sediments by feeding activity.The motivation for selective feeding and sea cucumber-sediment interaction might be explored in the future. | Fei GAO Yue ZHANG Peilin WU Mengling CHEN Linwen HE Qiang XU Aimin WANG | 2022 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,1: | 0 |
| 20 | Effects of fruit bagging on the physiochemical changes of grapefruit(Citrus paradisi)显示文摘Fruit bagging is a commonly used cultivation measure to protect citrus fruit from insects and adverse environments.The present study aimed to comprehensively investigate the effects of bagging on the physiochemical characteristics of grapefruit.The grapefruit were bagged at approximately 110–120 d after anthesis with a one-layer kraft paper bag with black coating inside(SL),a double-layer kraft paper bag with one black paper as the inner layer(DL),and a three-layer kraft paper bag with two black papers as inner layers(TL),respectively.Ultra performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry(UPLC-HRMS)technique was used to identify a total of 19 flavonoids,2 phenylpropanoids,9 coumarins,and 5 limonoids.By using UPLC,50 carotenoids were identified.Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry was used to identify 3 soluble sugars,3 organic acids,and 11 amino acids.In the quantitated components in the peel(albedo and flavedo),the chlorophylls and the carotenoids components(such as luteoxanthin,violaxanthin,9-cis-violaxanthin,xanthophyll,zeaxanthin andβ-carotene)were significantly downregulated by bagging,causing the surface color of bagged fruit to turn yellow earlier but paler than that of the unbagged control,particularly in the three-layer kraft bag treatment.Unlike the peel,the color and the carotenoid content of the juice sacs were less affected.The physiochem-ical compounds other than pigments,including soluble sugars,organic acids,amino acids,flavonoids,coumarins and limonoids,were minimally affected by bagging treatments.Our results indicated that bagging at approximately 110–120 d after anthesis exerted influence mainly on peel color,but less on sugars,acids,amino acids,flavonoids,limonoids and coumarins of grapefruit. | Anze Jiang Lizhen Zheng Dengliang Wang Chen Kang Jue Wu Peilin Fang Jinping Cao Chongde Sun | 2022 | Food Quality and Safety2022,6,4: | 0 |
