| 2 | The impacts of climate extremes on the terrestrial carbon cycle:A review显示文摘The increased frequency of climate extremes in recent years has profoundly affected terrestrial ecosystem functions and the welfare of human society. The carbon cycle is a key process of terrestrial ecosystem changes. Therefore, a better understanding and assessment of the impacts of climate extremes on the terrestrial carbon cycle could provide an important scientific basis to facilitate the mitigation and adaption of our society to climate change. In this paper, we systematically review the impacts of climate extremes(e.g. drought, extreme precipitation, extreme hot and extreme cold) on terrestrial ecosystems and their mechanisms. Existing studies have suggested that drought is one of the most important stressors on the terrestrial carbon sink, and that it can inhibit both ecosystem productivity and respiration. Because ecosystem productivity is usually more sensitive to drought than respiration, drought can significantly reduce the strength of terrestrial ecosystem carbon sinks and even turn them into carbon sources. Large inter-model variations have been found in the simulations of drought-induced changes in the carbon cycle, suggesting the existence of a large gap in current understanding of the mechanisms behind the responses of ecosystem carbon balance to drought, especially for tropical vegetation. The effects of extreme precipitation on the carbon cycle vary across different regions. In general, extreme precipitation enhances carbon accumulation in arid ecosystems, but restrains carbon sequestration in moist ecosystems. However, current knowledge on the indirect effects of extreme precipitation on the carbon cycle through regulating processes such as soil carbon lateral transportation and nutrient loss is still limited. This knowledge gap has caused large uncertainties in assessing the total carbon cycle impact of extreme precipitation. Extreme hot and extreme cold can affect the terrestrial carbon cycle through various ecosystem processes. Note that the severity of such climate extremes depends greatly on their timing, which needs to be investigated thoroughly in future studies. | 4 | Characteristics of Turbulent Transfer during Episodes of Heavy Haze Pollution in Beijing in Winter 2016/17显示文摘We analyzed the structure and evolution of turbulent transfer and the wind profile in the atmospheric boundary layer in relation to aerosol concentrations during an episode of heavy haze pollution from 6 December 2016 to 9 January 2017. The turbulence data were recorded at Peking University's atmospheric science and environment observation station. The results showed a negative correlation between the wind speed and the PM2.5 concentration. The turbulence kinetic energy was large and showed obvious diurnal variations during unpolluted(clean) weather, but was small during episodes of heavy haze pollution. Under both clean and heavy haze conditions, the relation between the non-dimensional wind components and the stability parameter z/L followed a 1/3 power law, but the normalized standard deviations of the wind speed were smaller during heavy pollution events than during clean periods under near-neutral conditions. Under unstable conditions, the normalized standard deviation of the potential temperatureσ_θ/|θ_*| was related to z/L, roughly following a –1/3 power law, and the ratio during pollution days was greater than that during clean days. The three-dimensional turbulence energy spectra satisfied a –2/3 power exponent rate in the high-frequency band. In the low-frequency band, the wind velocity spectrum curve was related to the stability parameters under clear conditions, but was not related to atmospheric stratification under polluted conditions. In the dissipation stage of the heavy pollution episode, the horizontal wind speed first started to increase at high altitudes and then gradually decreased at lower altitudes. | 5 | Advanced Ni-Nx-C single-site catalysts for CO2 electroreduction to CO based on hierarchical carbon nanocages and S-doping显示文摘Metal-nitrogen-carbon materials are promising catalysts for CO2 electroreduction to CO. Herein, by taking the unique hierarchical carbon nanocages as the support, an advanced nickel-nitrogen-carbon single-site catalyst is conveniently prepared by pyrolyzing the mixture of NiCl2 and phenanthroline, which exhibits a Faradaic efficiency plateau of > 87% in a wide potential window of −0.6 – −1.0 V. Further S-doping by adding KSCN into the precursor much enhances the CO specific current density by 68%, up to 37.5 A·g−1 at −0.8 V, along with an improved CO Faradaic efficiency plateau of > 90%. Such an enhancement can be ascribed to the facilitated CO pathway and suppressed hydrogen evolution from thermodynamic viewpoint as well as the increased electroactive surface area and improved charge transfer fromkinetic viewpoint due to the S-doping. | 6 | Thermally stable photoluminescence and long persistent luminescence of Ca3Ga4O9:Tb^3+/Zn^2+显示文摘A green long persistent luminescence(LPL) phosphor Ca_3 Ga_4 O_9:Tb^(3+)/Zn^(2+) was prepared. Ca_3 Ga_4 O_9 matrix exhibits blue self-activated LPL due to the creation of intrinsic traps. When Tb3+ is doped, the photoluminescence(PL) and LPL colors change from blue to green with their intensities significantly enhanced. The doping of Zn^(2+) evidently improves the PL and LPL performances of the Ca_3Ga_4O_9 matrix and Ca_3Ga_4O_9:Tb^(3+). The thermoluminescence(TL) spectra show that a successive trap distribution is formed by multiple intrinsic traps with different depths in the Ca_3 Ga_4 O_9 matrix, and the incorporation of Tb^(3+) and Zn^(2+) effectively increases the densities of these intrinsic traps. | 7 | Conditional inversion to estimate parameters from eddy-flux observations显示文摘Aims Data assimilation is a useful tool to extract information from large datasets of the net ecosystem exchange(NEE)of CO_(2) obtained by eddy-flux measurements.However,the number of parameters in ecosystem models that can be constrained by eddy-flux data is limited by conventional inverse analysis that estimates parameter values based on one-time inversion.This study aimed to improve data assimilation to increase the number of constrained parameters.Methods In this study,we developed conditional Bayesian inversion to maximize the number of parameters to be constrained by NEE data in several steps.In each step,we conducted a Bayesian inversion to constrain parameters.The maximum likelihood estimates of the constrained parameters were then used as prior to fix parameter values in the next step of inversion.The conditional inversion was repeated until there were no more parameters that could be further constrained.We applied the conditional inversion to hourly NEE data from Harvard Forest with a physiologically based ecosystem model.Important Findings Results showed that the conventional inversion method constrained 6 of 16 parameters in the model while the conditional inversion method constrained 13 parameters after six steps.The cost function that indicates mismatch between the modeled and observed data decreased with each step of conditional Bayesian inversion.The Bayesian information criterion also decreased,suggesting reduced information loss with each step of conditional Bayesian inversion.A wavelet analysis reflected that model performance under conditional Bayesian inversion was better than that under conventional inversion at multiple time scales,except for seasonal and half-yearly scales.In addition,our analysis also demonstrated that parameter convergence in a subsequent step of the conditional inversion depended on correlations with the parameters constrained in a previous step.Overall,the conditional Bayesian inversion substantially increased the number of parameters to be constrained by NEE data and can be a powerful tool to be used in data assimilation in ecology. | Xiaowen Wu Yiqi Luo Ensheng Weng Luther White Yong Ma Xuhui Zhou | 2009 | Journal of Plant Ecology2009,2,2: | 3 |

| 9 | Sign series entropy analysis of short-term heart rate variability显示文摘Complexity and nonlinearity approaches can be used to study the temporal and structural order in heart rate variability (HRV) signal, which is helpful for understanding the underlying rule and physiological essence of cardiovascular regulation. For clinical applications, methods suitable for short-term HRV analysis are more valuable. In this paper, sign series entropy analysis (SSEA) is proposed to characterize the feature of direction variation of HRV. The results show that SSEA method can detect sensitively physiological and pathological changes from short-term HRV signals, and the method also shows its robustness to nonstationarity and noise. | 10 | Ca^(2+) signals induced from calcium stores in pancreatic islet β cells显示文摘In single rat pancreatic βcells, using fura-2 microfluorometry to measure [Ca2+] response upon different stimuli, the ways of calcium regulation have been studied. When the extracellular calcium concentration was 2.5 mmol/L, either 60 mmol/L KCI, 20 mmol/L D-glucose or 0.1 mmol/L tolbutamide induced increase in [Ca2+]. Such increase in [Ca2+] was absent when the same stimuli were applied under zero extracellular calcium. These results indicate that the increase of [Ca2+] is induced by the activation of voltage-dependent calcium channels in p celis. The manifold forms of [Ca2+] change induced by glucose imply that the effects of glucose are complex. 5 mmol/L caffeine or 5 mmol/L MCh increase the [Ca2+], which is independent of the external calcium, suggesting that [Ca2+] can be regulated by Ca2+ release from not only the IP3-sensitive but also the ryanodine sensitive calcium stores in p celis. | 11 | High Prevalence of Eimeria Infection in Domestic Pigeons(Columba Livia Domestica) in Guangdong Province, Southern China显示文摘[Objective] This study aimed to make a survey of domestic pigeons for infection with Eimeria species of coccidia was conducted in Guangdong Province, southern China. [Method] A total of 244 fecal samples(102 from Huizhou, 83 from Jiangmen, 35 from Chaozhou and 24 from Guangzhou, respectively) in four pigeon breeding farms between June 2012 and March2013 were collected and examined microscopically. [Results] Eimeria oocysts were seen in 223(91.4%) fecal samples, with three species, namely E. labbeana, E.columbae and E. kapotei. E. labbeana was the most common species in Guangdong provinces with an overall prevalence of 91.4%, while a slightly lower incidence of E. columbae and E. kapotei species was detected with11.1% and 6.6%, representatively. The prevalence in different months varied ranging from 83.3% to 91.7%, with the highest prevalence in summer. Nestling groups showed obviously high infection than adult pigeons. | 16 | Engineered extracellular vesicles for delivery of siRNA promoting targeted repair of traumatic spinal cord injury显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI)is a severe disease of the nervous system that causes irreparable damage and loss of function,for which no effective treatments are available to date.Engineered extracellular vesicles(EVs)carrying therapeutic molecules hold promise as an alternative SCI therapy depending on the specific functionalized EVs and the appropriate engineering strategy.In this study,we demonstrated the design of a drug delivery system of peptide CAQK-modified,siRNA-loaded EVs(C-EVs-siRNA)for SCI-targeted therapy.The peptide CAQK was anchored through a chemical modification to the membranes of EVs isolated from induced neural stem cells(iNSCs).CCL2-siRNA was then loaded into the EVs through electroporation.The modified EVs still maintained the basic properties of EVs and showed favorable targeting and therapeutic effects in vitro and in vivo.C-EVs-siRNA specifically delivered siRNA to the SCI region and was taken up by target cells.C-EVs-siRNA used the inherent anti-inflammatory and neuroreparative functions of iNSCs-derived EVs in synergy with the loaded siRNA,thus enhancing the therapeutic effect against SCI.The combination of targeted modified EVs and siRNA effectively regulated the microenvironmental disturbance after SCI,promoted the transformation of microglia/macrophages from M1 to M2 and limited the negative effects of the inflammatory response and neuronal injury on functional recovery in mice after SCI.Thus,engineered EVs are a potentially feasible and efficacious treatment for SCI,and may also be used to develop targeted treatments for other diseases. | Yuluo Rong Zhuanghui Wang Pengyu Tang Jiaxing Wang Chengyue Ji Jie Chang Yufeng Zhu Wu Ye Jianling Bai Wei Liu Guoyong Yin Lipeng Yu Xuhui Zhou Weihua Cai | 2023 | Bioactive Materials2023,,5: | 1 |

| 20 | Investigation on the Novel High-performance Copper/Graphene Composite Conductor for High Power Density Motor显示文摘High-performance Cu/Graphene composite wire synergistically strengthened by nano Cr_(3)C_(2) phase was directly synthesized via hot press sintering followed by severe cold plastic deformation, using liquid paraffin and CuCr alloy powder as the raw materials. Since graphene is in situ formed under the catalysis of copper powder during the sintering process, the problem that graphene is easy to agglomerate and difficult to disperse uniformly in the copper matrix has been solved. The nano Cr_(3)C_(2)-particles nailed at the interface favor to improve the interface bonding. The Cu/Graphene composite possesses high electrical conductivity, hardness, and plasticity. The composite wire exhibits high electrical conductivity of 96.93% IACS, great tensile strength of 488MPa, and excellent resistance to softening. Even after annealing at 400℃ for 1 h, the tensile strength can still reach 268 MPa with a conductivity of about 99.14% IACS.The wire's temperature coefficient of resistance(TCR) is largely reduced to 0.0035/℃ due to the complex structure,which leads the wire to present low resistivity at higher temperatures.
