1Anisotropic coding metamaterials and their powerful manipulation of differently polarized terahertz waves显示文摘Metamaterials based on effective media can be used to produce a number of unusual physical properties(for example,negative refraction and invisibility cloaking)because they can be tailored with effective medium parameters that do not occur in nature.Recently,the use of coding metamaterials has been suggested for the control of electromagnetic waves through the design of coding sequences using digital elements‘0’and‘1,'which possess opposite phase responses.Here we propose the concept of an anisotropic coding metamaterial in which the coding behaviors in different directions are dependent on the polarization status of the electromagnetic waves.We experimentally demonstrate an ultrathin and flexible polarization-controlled anisotropic coding metasurface that functions in the terahertz regime using specially designed coding elements.By encoding the elements with elaborately designed coding sequences(both 1-bit and 2-bit sequences),the x-and y-polarized waves can be anomalously reflected or independently diffused in three dimensions.The simulated far-field scattering patterns and near-field distributions are presented to illustrate the dual-functional performance of the encoded metasurface,and the results are consistent with the measured results.We further demonstrate the ability of the anisotropic coding metasurfaces to generate a beam splitter and realize simultaneous anomalous reflections and polarization conversions,thus providing powerful control of differently polarized electromagnetic waves.The proposed method enables versatile beam behaviors under orthogonal polarizations using a single metasurface and has the potential for use in the development of interesting terahertz devices.Shuo Liu Tie Jun Cui Quan Xu Di Bao Liangliang Du Xiang Wan Wen Xuan Tang Chunmei Ouyang Xiao Yang Zhou Hao Yuan Hui Feng Ma Wei Xiang Jiang Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang Qiang Cheng 2016Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1:36
2Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi combined with exogenous calcium improves the growth of peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.)seedlings under continuous cropping显示文摘The growth and yield of peanut are negatively affected by continuous cropping.Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)and calcium ions(Ca^(2+))have been used to improve stress resistance in other plants,but little is known about their roles in peanut seedling growth under continuous cropping.This study investigated the possible roles of the AMF Glomus mosseae combined with exogenous Ca^(2+)in improving the physiological responses of peanut seedlings under continuous cropping.G.mosseae combined with exogenous Ca^(2+)can enhance plant biomass,Ca^(2+)level,and total chlorophyll content.Under exogenous Ca^(2+)application,the F_v/F_m in arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)plant leaves was higher than that in the control plants when they were exposed to high irradiance levels.The peroxidase,superoxide dismutase,and catalase activities in AM plant leaves also reached their maximums,and accordingly,the malondialdehyde content was the lowest compared to other treatments.Additionally,root activity,and content of total phenolics and flavonoids were significantly increased in AM plant roots treated by Ca^(2+)compared to either G.mosseae inoculation or Ca^(2+)treatment alone.Transcription levels of AhCaM,AhCDPK,AhRAM1,and AhRAM2 were significantly improved in AM plant roots under exogenous Ca^(2+)treatment.This implied that exogenous Ca^(2+)might be involved in the regulation of G.mosseae colonization of peanut plants,and in turn,AM symbiosis might activate the Ca^(2+)signal transduction pathway.The combination of AMF and Ca^(2+)benefitted plant growth and development under continuous cropping,suggesting that it is a promising method to cope with the stress caused by continuous cropping.CUI Li GUO Feng ZHANG Jia-lei YANG Sha MENG Jing-jing GENG Yun WANG Quan LI Xin-guo WAN Shu-bo 2019Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,2:9

7A flow cytometer based protocol for quantitative analysis of bloom-forming cyanobacteria(Microcystis) in lake sediments显示文摘A quantitative protocol for the rapid analysis of Microcystis cells and colonies in lake sediment was developed using a modified flow cytometer,the CytoSense.For cell enumeration,diluted sediment samples containing Microcystis were processed with sonication to disintegrate colonies into single cells.An optimized procedure suggested that 5 mg dw(dry weight)/mL dilution combined with 200 W × 2 min sonication yielded the highest counting efficiency.Under the optimized determination conditions,the quantification limit of this protocol was 3.3×10 4 cells/g dw.For colony analysis,Microcystis were isolated from the sediment by filtration.Colony lengths measured by flow cytometry were similar to those measured by microscopy for the size range of one single cell to almost 400 μm in length.Moreover,the relationship between colony size and cell number was determined for three Microcystis species,including Microcystis flos-aquae,M.aeruginosa and M.wessenbergii.Regression formulas were used to calculate the cell numbers in differentsized colonies.The developed protocol was applied to field sediment samples from Lake Taihu.The results indicated the potential and applicability of flow cytometry as a tool for the rapid analysis of benthic Microcystis.This study provided a new capability for the high frequency monitoring of benthic overwintering and population dynamics of this bloom-forming cyanobacterium.Quan Zhou Wei Chen Huiyong Zhang Liang Peng Liming Liu Zhiguo Han Neng Wan Lin Li Lirong Song 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,9:5

9Effect of Multiple Coatings of One-step Self-etching Adhesive on Microtensile Bond Strength to Primary Dentin显示文摘Objective To investigate the effect of multiple coatings of the one-step self-etching adhesive on immediate microtensile bond strength to primary dentin.Methods Twelve caries-free human primary molars were randomly divided into 2 groups with 6 teeth each.In group 1,each tooth was hemisected into two halves.One half was assigned to control subgroup 1,which was bonded with a single-step self-etching adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions;the other half was assigned to experimental subgroup 1 in which the adhesive was applied three times before light curing.In group 2,the teeth were also hemisected into two halves.One half was assigned to control subgroup 2,which was bonded with the single-step self-etching adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions;the other half was assigned to experimental subgroup 2 in which three layers of adhesive were applied with light curing each successive layer.Microtensile bond strength was immediately tested after specimen preparation.Results When the adhesive was applied three times before light curing,the bond strength of the experimental subgroup 1(n=33,57.49±11.61 MPa) was higher than that of the control subgroup 1(n=31,49.71±11.43 MPa,P<0.05).When using the technique of applying multiple layers of adhesive with light curing each successive layer,no difference of immediate bond strength was observed between the control subgroup 2 and the experimental subgroup 2(P>0.05).Conclusion Multiple coatings of one-step self-etching adhesive can increase the immediate bond strength to primary dentin when using the technique of light-curing after applying three layers of adhesive.Lin Ma Jian-feng Zhou Jian-guo Tan Quan Jing Ji-zhi Zhao Kuo Wan 2011Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2011,26,3:4
10A donepezil/cyclodextrin complexation orodispersible film: Effect of cyclodextrin on taste-masking based on dynamic process and in vivo drug absorption显示文摘The aim of this study was to develop a palatable donepezil(DP) orodispersible film(ODF)to facilitate the swallowing process and investigate the effect of cyclodextrin on tastemasking based on dynamic process and in vivo drug absorption. Complexation of DP with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin(HP-β-CD) was applied to mask the bitter taste then the prepared complexes were incorporated into ODF using solvent casting method. The tastemasking efficiency was evaluated by e-tongue; meanwhile the pharmacokinetic behavior of DP/HP-β-CD ODF was investigated by in vivo study. Results showed the optimized film was more palatable than donepezil hydrochloride(DH) film and was bioequivalent with DH. The molecular mechanism was revealed by phase solubility study, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer(FT-IR), Differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and molecular modeling. Taste-masking was attributed to the formation of DP/HP-β-CD which was due to moderate interaction between DP and HP-β-CD. The stability of DP/HP-β-CD was decreased because of the acid environment in stomach, which facilitated the absorption of DP. 13Effectiveness and Safety of Computer-controlled Periodontal Ligament Injection System in Endodontic Access to the Mandibular Posterior Teeth显示文摘Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a computer-controlled periodontal ligament(PDL) injection system to the local soft tissues as the primary technique in endodontic access to mandibular posterior teeth in patients with irreversible pulpitis.Methods A total of 162 Chinese patients who had been diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis in their mandibular posterior teeth without acute infection or inflammation in the periodontal tissues were enrolled in this clinical study.The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the position of the involved tooth:the premolar group(PM,n=38),first molar group(FM,n=66),and second molar group(SM,n=58).All the patients received computer-controlled PDL injection with 4% articaine and 1∶100 000 epinephrine.Immediately after the injection,endodontic access was performed,and the degree of pain during the treatment was evaluated by the patients using Visual Analogue Scale for pain.The success rates were compared among the 3 groups.The responses of local soft tissues were evaluated 3-8 days and 3 weeks after the procedure.Results The overall success rate was 76.5%.There was a significant difference in success rates among the PM,FM,and SM groups(92.1%,53.0%,93.1%,respectively;χ2=34.3,P<0.01).Both the PM and SM groups showed higher success rates than that of the FM group(v=1,χ2=16.73,P<0.01;v=1,χ2=24.5,P<0.01).No irreversible adverse effects on the periodontal soft tissues at the injection sites were observed in the follow-up visits in any of the groups.Conclusion The computer-controlled PDL injection system demonstrates both satisfactory anesthetic effects and safety in local soft tissues as primary anesthetic technique in endodontic access to the mandibular posterior teeth in patients with irreversible pulpitis.Quan Jing Kuo Wan Xiao-jun Wang Lin Ma 2014Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2014,29,1:3
14Microstructure Evolution of Organic Matter and Clay Minerals in Shales with Increasing Thermal Maturity显示文摘As the two important components of shale, organic matter(OM) and clay minerals are usually thought to strongly influence the hydrocarbon generation, enrichment and exploitation. The evolution process of OM and clay minerals as well as their interrelationship over a wide range of thermal maturities are not completely clear. Taking Yanchang(T3y), Longmaxi(S1l) and Niutitang(?1n) shales as examples, we have studied the microstructure characteristics of OM and clay minerals in shales with different thermal maturities. The effects of clay minerals and OM on pores were reinforced through sedimentation experiments. Using a combination of field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and low-pressure N2 adsorption, we investigated the microstructure differences among the three shales. The results showed that both OM and clay minerals have strong effects on pores, and small mesopore(2–20 nm) is the dominant pore component for all three samples. However, the differences between the three samples are embodied in the distribution of pore size and the location. For the T3y shale, clay minerals are loosely arranged and develop large amounts of pores, and fine OM grains often fill in intergranular minerals or fractures. Widespread OM pores distribute irregularly in S1l shale, and most of the pores are elliptical and nondirectional. The ?1n shale is characterized by the preferred orientational OM-clay aggregates, and lots of pores in the composites are in the mesopore range, suggesting that over maturity lead to the collapse and compaction of pores under huge pressure of strata. The results of the current research imply that with increasing thermal maturity, OM pores are absent at low maturity(T3y), are maximized at high maturity(S1l) and are destroyed or compacted at over-mature stage(?1n). Meanwhile, clay minerals have gone through mineral transformation and orientational evolution. 17Overexpression of angiopoietin-1 reduces doxorubicin-induced apoptosis in cardiomyocytes显示文摘Doxorubicin(Dox) is a major anticancer chemotherapeutic agent.However,it causes cardiomyopathy due to the side effect of cardiomyocyte apoptosis.We have previously reported that angiopoietin-1 significantly reduced myocardial infarction after ischemic injury and protected cardiomyocytes from oxidative stress-induced apoptosis.It is hypothesized that angiopoietin-1 may protect cardiomyocytes from Dox-induced apoptosis.Cardiomyocytes H9C2 were transfected with adenovirus expressing angiopoietin-1(Ad5-Ang-1) 24 h before the cells were challenged with Dox at a concentration of 2 μmol/L.Ad5-GFP served as the vector control.Cardiomyocyte apoptosis was evaluated using Annexin V-FITC staining and caspase-3 and caspase-8 activity was determined by Western blotting.The results showed that Dox treatment significantly induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis as evidenced by the greater number of Annexin V-FITC stained cells and increases in caspase-3 and caspase-8 activity.In contrast,overexpression of angiopoietin-1 significantly prevented Dox-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis.To elucidate the mechanisms by which angiopoietin-1 protected cells from Dox-induced apoptosis,we analyzed both extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathways.We observed that angiopoietin-1 prevented Dox-induced activation of both extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathways.Specifically,angiopoietin-1 prevented DOX-induced increases in FasL and Bax levels and cleaved caspase-3 and caspase-8 levels in H9C2 cells.In addition,overexpression of angiopoietin-1 also activated the pro-survival phosphoinositide-3 kinase(PI3K)/Akt signaling pathway and decreased Dox-induced nuclear factor-kappaB(NF-κB) activation.Our data suggest that promoting the expression of angiopoietin-1 could be a potential approach for reducing Dox-induced cardiomyocyte cytoxicity.Danyang Ren Quan Zhu Jiantao Li Tuanzhu Ha Xiaohui Wan Yuehua Li 2012The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,6:3
18The effects of clay minerals and organic matter on nanoscale pores in Lower Paleozoic shale gas reservoirs, Guizhou, China显示文摘In organic-rich gas shales, clay minerals and organic matter(OM) have significant influences on the origin, preservation, and production of shale gas. Because of the substantial role of nanoscale pores in the generation,storage, and seepage of shale gas, we examined the effects of clay minerals and OM on nanoscale pore distribution characteristics in Lower Paleozoic shale gas reservoirs.Using the Niutitang and Longmaxi shales as examples, we determined the effects of clay minerals and OM on pores through sedimentation experiments. Field emission–scanning electron microscopy combined with low-pressure N2 adsorption of the samples before and after sedimentation showed significant differences in pore location and pore size distribution between the Niutitang and Longmaxi shales. Nanoscale pores mostly existed in OM in the Longmaxi shale and in clay minerals or OM–clay composites in the Niutitang shale. The distribution differences were attributed largely to variability in thermal evolution and tectonic development and might account for the difference in gas-bearing capacity between the Niutitang and Longmaxi reservoirs. In the nanoscale range, mesopores accounted for 61–76% of total nanoscale pore volume.Considerably developed nanoscale pores in OM were distributed in a broad size range in the Longmaxi shale, which led to good pore connectivity and gas production.Numerous narrow pores(i.e., pores \ 20 nm) in OM–clay composites were found in the Niutitang shale, and might account for this shale's poor pore connectivity and low gas production efficiency. Enhancing the connectivity of the mesopores(especially pores \ 20 nm and those developed in OM–clay composites) might be the key to improving development of the Niutitang shale. 19Medical Emergencies in Dental Clinics: A Survey of 2013 Dentists in China显示文摘Objective To investigate the feature and frequency of medical emergencies in dental clinics in China and the Methods A survey study was conducted among 2408 dentists who attended continuing educational courses held by Society of Sedation and Analgesia of Chinese Stomatological Association in 18 cities from December 2015 to December 2018.Demographic information of the dentists and the characteristics of medical emergencies they encountered were collected and analyzed.The associated demographic features for dentist experiencing medical emergencies were analyzed by logistic regression model.Results A total of 2013 dentists provided valid responses and reported 2923 events of medical emergencies in dental clinics.Among them,85.0%reported that they had encountered medical emergencies,and 35.5%had encountered at least twice.Syncope(35.9%)and hypoglycemia(30.3%)were the most common reported medical emergencies.Medical emergencies were most likely to occur during local anesthesia(49.9%),out-patient oral surgery(25.9%),and root canal treatment(11.3%).There were 6 patients(0.2%)died in emergencies.84.0%dentists reported that they had never received training courses about medical emergency management in dentistry other than Basic Life Support.Longer practicing time(10-15 years)(OR=0.59,95%CI:0.41-0.85,P=0.004),working in private dental facilities(OR=1.69,95%CI:1.20-2.38,P=0.003)were associated with an increased risk of experiencing medical emergencies.Conclusion More efforts are needed in prevention,early identification,and timely management of medical emergencies in dental clinics in order to prevent fatal outcomes.The results of this survey are useful information for re-designing emergency training courses for Chinese dentists.Quan Jing Kuo Wan Lin Ma Jizhi Zhao 2020Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2020,35,4:2
20The effect of pH on the sorption of gold nanoparticles on illite显示文摘Sorption between nanoparticles(NPs)and minerals may critically affect the migration of associated elements as well as the environmental impact of NPs.Since illite is widely present in soil,sediment,and water,we have experimentally investigated the sorption behavior of citrate-coated gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)as model NPs on illite under different pH and mineral mass conditions.We demonstrated that sorption of these negatively charged AuNPs strongly depended on the suspension pH.At pH above 8,which coincided with the apparent point of zero charge(pH 7.9)of our illite sample,only marginal sorption of AuNPs was observed.At pH 3-8,significant sorption of AuNPs on illite was found,with almost complete sorption occurring at more acidic conditions(pH 3-4).TEM observations revealed that sorption took place through the attachment AuNPs on illite edges.At pH 2,AuNPs mostly formed chain-like fused structures and precipitated out of the suspension.Based upon the above pH dependence,residual organic ligand content after sorption,and complementary sorption results with positively charged AuNPs,we conclude that the sorption process is mainly driven by the electrostatic attraction between negatively charged AuNPs and positively charged illite edges,with possible competitive involvement of citrate molecules.We expect that our findings will improve our understanding of NP-mineral interaction and the environmental fate of NPs.Yuhong Fu Quan Wan Zonghua Qin Xin Nie Wenbin Yu Shanshan Li 2020Acta Geochimica2020,39,2:2
