| 1 | Hurricane eye morphology extraction from SAR images by texture analysis显示文摘Tropical hurricanes are among the most devastating hazards on Earth.Knowledge about its intense inner-core structure and dynamics will improve hurricane forecasts and advisories.The precise morphological parameters extracted from high-resolution spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)images,can play an essential role in further exploring and monitoring hurricane dynamics,especially when hurricanes undergo amplification,shearing,eyewall replacements and so forth.Moreover,these parameters can help to build guidelines for wind calibration of the more abundant,but lower resolution scatterometer wind data,thus better linking scatterometer wind fields to hurricane categories.In this paper,we develop a new method for automatically extracting the hurricane eyes from C-band SAR data by constructing Gray Level-Gradient Co-occurrence Matrices(GLGCMs).The hurricane eyewall is determined with a two-dimensional vector,generated by maximizing the class entropy of the hurricane eye region in GLGCM.The results indicate that when the hurricane is weak,or the eyewall is not closed,the hurricane eye extracted with this automatic method still agrees with what is observed visually,and it preserves the texture characteristics of the original image.As compared to Du’s wavelet analysis method and other morphological analysis methods,the approach developed here has reduced artefacts due to factors like hurricane size and has lower programming complexity.In summary,the proposed method provides a new and elegant choice for hurricane eye morphology extraction. | Weicheng NI Ad STOFFELEN Kaijun REN | 2022 | Frontiers of Earth Science2022,16,1: | 2 |

| 7 | Streptomyces lydicus A_(01) affects soil microbial diversity, improving growth and resilience in tomato显示文摘The actinomycete Streptomyces lydicus A_(01) promotes tomato seedling growth; however, the underlying mechanism is unclear. In this study, we investigated whether changes in soil microbial diversity, following Streptomyces lydicus A_(01) treatment, were responsible for the increased tomato seedling growth. Eukaryotic 18 S ribosomal DNA(rDNA) sequencing showed that S. lydicus A_(01)-treated and untreated soil shared 193 operational taxonomic units(OTUs), whereas bacterial 16 S rDNA sequencing identified 1,219 shared OTUs between the treated and untreated soil. Of the 42 dominant eukaryotic OTUs, eight were significantly increased and six were significantly decreased after A_(01) treatment. Of the 25 dominant bacterial OTUs, 12 were significantly increased and eight were significantly decreased after A_(01) treatment.Most of the eukaryotes and bacteria that increased in abundance exhibited growth promoting characteristics,which were mainly predicted to be associated with mineralization of nitrogen and phosphorus, phosphate solubilization, nutrient accumulation, and secretion of auxin, whereas some were related to plant protection,such as the degradation of toxic and hazardous substances. Soil composition tests showed that S. lydicus A_(01) treatment enhanced the utilization of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in tomato seedlings. | 8 | An Efficient Algorithm for Skyline Queries in Cloud Computing Environments显示文摘Skyline query processing has recently received a lot of attention in database and data mining communities. However, most existing algorithms consider how to efficiently process skyline queries from base tables. Obviously, when the data size and the number of skyline queries increase, the time cost of skyline queries will increase exponentially, which will seriously influence the query efficiency. Motivated by the above, in this paper, we consider improving the query efficiency via skyline views and propose a cost-based algorithm(abbr. CA) to efficiently select the optimal set of skyline views for storage. The CA algorithm mainly includes two phases:(i) reduce the skyline views selection to the minimum steiner tree problem and obtain the approximate optimal set AOS of skyline views, and(ii) adjust AOS and produce the final optimal set FOS of skyline views based on the simulated annealing. Moreover, in order to improve the extendibility of the CA algorithm, we implement it based on the map/reduce distributed computation model in cloud computing environments.
