3Effect of spatial scale and topography on spatial heterogeneity of soil seed banks under grazing disturbance in a sandy grassland of Horqin Sand Land, Northern China显示文摘Soil seed banks play an important role in the distribution and composition of plant communities in semiarid grassland ecosystems.However,information on how spatial scale influences the spatial heterogeneity of soil seed banks in a grassland under grazing disturbance is still lacking.Based on field sampling and greenhouse germination,we measured the species composition and seed density of soil seed banks at different spatial scales (30 m×30 m,30 m×60 m and 30 m×90 m)along a topographical gradient in a sandy grassland in Horqin Sand Land, Northern China.By applying geostatistical methods,we examined how spatial scale and topography affected the spatial distribution of soil seed banks in the study area.Our results showed that the total number of species in soil seed banks,as well as the number of dominant annuals,increased with the increase of spatial scales.Seed density in soil seed banks decreased with the increase of spatial scales due to an increase in the slopes and relative heights of the sampling points.Geostatistical analysis showed that the relative structural variance(C/(C0+C))of seed density and species richness were over 65%for all spatial scales,indicating that these variables had an obvious spatial autocorrelation and the spatial structured variance accounted for the largest proportion of the total sample variance.Spatial autocorrelation of seed density in soil seed banks increased with the increase of measured scales,while that of species richness showed a reverse trend.These results suggest that the total number of species in soil seed banks is spatial scale dependent and lower topography may accommodate more seeds.Spatial distribution of seed density in soil seed banks is also scale dependent due to topographic variation.Grassland management,therefore,needs to consider local grazing disturbance regime,spatial scale and topography.XiaoAn ZUO ShaoKun WANG XueYong ZHAO WenJin LI Johannes KNOPS Amy KOCHSlEK 2012Journal of Arid Land2012,4,2:9
4HY5-HDA9 Module Transcriptionally Regulates Plant Autophagy in Response to Light-to-Dark Conversion and Nitrogen Starvation显示文摘Light is arguably one of the most important environmental factors that determines virtually all aspects of plant growth and development,but the molecular link between light signaling and the autophagy pathway has not been elucidated in plants.In this study,we demonstrate that autophagy is activated during light-to-dark conversion though transcriptional upregulation of autophagy-related genes(ATGs).We showed that depletion of the ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5(HY5),a key component of light signaling,leads to enhanced autophagy activity and resistance to extended darkness and nitrogen starvation treatments,contributing to higher expression oiATGs.HY5 interacts with and recruits HISTONE DEACETYLASE 9(HDA9)to ATG5 and ATG8e loci to repress their expression by deacetylation of the Lys9 and Lys27 of histone 3.Furthermore,we found that both darkness and nitrogen depletion induce the degradation of HY5 via 26S proteasome and the concomitant disassociation of HDA9 from ATG5 and ATG8e loci,leading to their depression and thereby activated autophagy.Genetic analysis further confirmed that HY5 and HDA9 act synergistically and function upstream of the autophagy pathway.Collectively,our study unveils a previously unknown transcriptional and epigenetic network that regulates autophagy in response to light-to-dark conversion and nitrogen starvation in plants.Chao Yang Wenjin Shen Lianming Yang Yun Sun Xibao Li Minyi Lai Juan Wei Chaojun Wang Yingchao Xu Faqiang Li Shan Liang Chengwei Yang Shangwei Zhong Ming Luo Caiji Gao 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,3:8
5Ocean surface wave measurements from fully polarimetric SAR imagery显示文摘A new method for the retrieval of ocean wave parameters from SAR imagery is developed,based on the shape-from-shading(SFS)technique.Previously,the SFS technique has been used in the reconstruction of 3D landform information from SAR images,in order to generate elevation maps of topography for land surfaces.Here,in order to retrieve ocean wave characteristics,we apply the SFS methodology,together with a method to orient the angular measurements of the azimuth slope and range slope,in the measurement of ocean surface waves.This method is applied to high resolution fine-quad polarization mode(HH,VV,VH and HV)C-band RADARSAT-2 SAR imagery,in order to retrieve ocean wave spectra and extract wave parameters.Collocated in situ buoy measurements are used to validate the reliability of this method.Results show that the method can reliably estimate wave height,dominant wave period,dominant wave length and dominant wave direction from C-band SAR images.The advantage of this method is that it does not depend on modulation transfer functions(MTFs),in order to measure ocean surface waves.This method can be used in monitoring ocean surface wave propagation through open water areas into ice-covered areas,especially the marginal ice zone(MIZ)in polar oceans.XIE Tao William PERRIE HE YiJun LI HaiYan FANG He ZHAO ShangZhuo YU WenJin 2015Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,10:6

7A case study of regional eco-hydrological characteristics in the Tao River Basin, northwestern China, based on evapotranspiration estimated by a coupled Budyko Equation-crop coefficient approach显示文摘In a case study in Tao River Basin, China, we derived a high spatial-resolution regional distribution of evapotranspiration(ET) using the single crop coefficient method and Budyko equation. We then further analyzed the spatio-temporal characteristics of this diverse eco-hydrological basin from 2001–2010. The results suggest that the single crop coefficient method based on leaf area index captures better spatial and temporal dynamics of the regional ET than did the Budyko Equation method. The rising temperature was the main reason for the increasing ET in the Tao River Basin during 2001–2010. Areas with high ET efficiency were distributed mainly in the areas where the vegetation coverage was high, and a lower runoff coefficient responded. 9Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone catalyzed by cordierite honeycomb washcoated with Mg–Sn–W composite oxides显示文摘In this work, a series of Mg–Sn–W oxide powder catalysts with different tungsten oxide contents(0, 15 wt% and 30 wt%) were prepared and washcoated on cordierite honeycomb monoliths to produce monolithic catalysts,which were tested for the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone. The obtained monolithic catalysts,which combined the advantages of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, showed high catalytic efficiency and overcame the problems of product separation that occurred in the homogeneous catalytic process.SEM and EDX tests showed that the catalytic coating, with a thickness of approximately 20 μm, was compact and homogeneous, and an enlarged BET surface area was indicated by N_2 adsorption–desorption compared with the bare cordierite honeycomb. The chemical properties on the catalytic surface of the powder and monolithic catalysts were characterized by XPS, which indicated the tin and tungsten on the catalysts exhibited their full oxide states and presented mainly as stannate and tungstate, as confirmed by XRD and FTIR characterizations.Moreover, the catalytic activity test indicated that the tungsten content of the catalysts played an important role in catalytic efficiency and that monolithic catalysts were produced without obvious catalytic activity loss compared with the corresponding powders.(M)W30, which exhibited excellent mechanical stability and maintained high activity after recycling three times, was the optimal catalyst, showing a high selectivity that exceeded 86%and a conversion above 64%. 11SINAT E3 ligases regulate the stability of the ESCRT component FREE1 in response to iron deficiency in plants显示文摘The endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery is an ancient, evolutionarily conserved membrane remodeling complex that is es-sential for multivesicular body (MVB) biogenesis in eu-karyotes. FYVE DOMAIN PROTEIN REQUIRED FOR EN-DOSOMAL SORTING 1 (FREE1), which was previously identified as a plant-specific ESCRT component, modu-lates MVB-mediated endosomal sorting and autophagic degradation. Although the basic cellular functions of FREE1 as an ESCRT component have been described, the regulators that control FREE1 turnover remain unknown. Here, we analyzed how FREE1 homeostasis is mediated by the RING-finger E3 ubiquitin ligases, SINA of Arabi-dopsis thaliana (SINATs), in response to iron deficiency. Under iron-deficient growth conditions, SINAT1-4 were induced and ubiquitinated FREE1, thereby promoting its degradation and relieving the repressive effect of FREE1 on iron absorption. By contrast, SINAT5, another SINAT member that lacks ubiquitin ligase activity due to the absence of the RING domain, functions as a protector protein which stabilizes FREE1. 12Differential Privacy Preserving Dynamic Data Release Scheme Based on Jensen-Shannon Divergence显示文摘Health monitoring data or the data about infectious diseases such as COVID-19 may need to be constantly updated and dynamically released,but they may contain user's sensitive information.Thus,how to preserve the user's privacy before their release is critically important yet challenging.Differential Privacy(DP)is well-known to provide effective privacy protection,and thus the dynamic DP preserving data release was designed to publish a histogram to meet DP guarantee.Unfortunately,this scheme may result in high cumulative errors and lower the data availability.To address this problem,in this paper,we apply Jensen-Shannon(JS)divergence to design the OPTICS(Ordering Points To Identify The Clustering Structure)scheme.It uses JS divergence to measure the difference between the updated data set at the current release time and private data set at the previous release time.By comparing the difference with a threshold,only when the difference is greater than the threshold,can we apply OPTICS to publish DP protected data sets.Our experimental results show that the absolute errors and average relative errors are significantly lower than those existing works.Ying Cai Yu Zhang Jingjing Qu Wenjin Li 2022China Communications2022,19,6:2
13Fast-convolution multicarrier based frequency division multiple access显示文摘Fast-convolution multicarrier(FCMC), the asynchronous waveform with ultra-low sidelobe, has appeared to be a promising waveform technique for future wireless communications. In this paper, we investigate the filter bank optimization as well as receiver design including low-complexity channel estimator and equalizer for FCMC based frequency division multiple access(FDMA). Starting from the conventional multi-carrier signals, we first derive a vectorized signal model as a framework to systematically design the FCMC transceiver. For nearly perfect reconstruction(NPR) filter banks design, an optimization criterion which consists of minimizing received signal segments’ mean square error(MSE) is proposed. From the fact that Toeplitz matrices can be asymptotically diagonalized by discrete Fourier transform(DFT) matrix, the channel equalizer can be simplified to one-tap frequency domain equalizer when DFT size is large enough.The minimum mean square error(MMSE) criterion is then applied to calculate the coefficients of onetap frequency domain equalizer. In practice, due to the channel fading, the channel estimation has to be performed to obtain the channel state information(CSI) which is required by the channel equalization. To this end, we propose a combined cyclic prefix(CP) and cyclic suffix(CS) pilot structure which facilitates to estimate the frequency domain CSI directly in the receiver end. The proposed FCMC based FDMA features low-complexity receiver, adjustable users’ bandwidth and low peak-to-average power ratio. 14A low dose cell therapy system for treating osteoarthritis:In vivo study and in vitro mechanistic investigations显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)can be effective in alleviating the progression of osteoarthritis(OA).However,low MSC retention and survival at the injection site frequently require high doses of cells and/or repeated injections,which are not economically viable and create additional risks of complications.In this study,we produced MSC-laden microcarriers in spinner flask culture as cell delivery vehicles.These microcarriers containing a low initial dose of MSCs administered through a single injection in a rat anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)transection model of OA achieved similar reparative effects as repeated high doses of MSCs,as evaluated through imaging and histological analyses.Mechanistic investigations were conducted using a co-culture model involving human primary chondrocytes grown in monolayer,together with MSCs grown either within 3D constructs or as a monolayer.Co-culture supernatants subjected to secretome analysis showed significant decrease of inflammatory factors in the 3D group.RNA-seq of co-cultured MSCs and chondrocytes using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathway analysis revealed processes relating to early chondrogenesis and increased extracellular matrix interactions in MSCs of the 3D group,as well as phenotypic maintenance in the co-cultured chondrocytes.The cell delivery platform we investigated may be effective in reducing the cell dose and injection frequency required for therapeutic applications.Bin Wang Wei Liu Jiao Jiao Li Senlin Chai Dan Xing Hongsheng Yu Yuanyuan Zhang Wenjin Yan Zhihong Xu Bin Zhao Yanan Du Qing Jiang 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,1:2

16Predator perception of detritus and eggsac decorations spun by orb-web spiders Cyclosa octotuberculata:Do they function to camouflage the spiders?显示文摘Camouflage is one of the most widespread and powerful strategies that animals use to make detection/recognitionmore difficult. Many orb-web spiders of the genus Cyclosa add prey remains, plant debris, moults, and/or eggsacs to their webscalled web decorations. Web decorations resembling spider body colour pattern have been considered to camouflage the spiderfrom predators. While this camouflage is obvious from a human's perspective, it has rarely been investigated from a predator'sperspective. In this study, we tested the visibility of web decorations by calculating chromatic and achromatic contrasts of detritusand eggsac decorations built by Cyclosa octotuberculata, against four different backgrounds viewed by both bird (e.g., blue tits)and hymenopteran (e.g. wasps) predators. We showed that both juvenile and adult spiders on webs with detritus or egg-sac decorationswere undetectable by both hymenopteran and bird predators over short and long distances. 17Direct detection of a single[4Fe-4S]cluster in a tungsten-containing enzyme:Electrochemical conversion of CO_(2) into formate by formate dehydrogenase显示文摘The conversion of CO_(2) into fuels and valuable chemicals is one of the central topics to combat climate change and meet the growing demand for renewable energy.Herein,we show that the formate dehydrogenase from Clostridium ljungdahlii(ClFDH)adsorbed on electrodes displays clear characteristic voltammetric signals that can be assigned to the reduction and oxidation potential of the[4Fe-4S]^(2+/+)cluster under nonturnover conditions.Upon adding substrates,the signals transform into a specific redox center that engages in catalytic electron transport.ClFDH catalyzes rapid and efficient reversible interconversion between CO_(2) and formate in the presence of substrates.The turnover frequency of electrochemical CO_(2) reduction is determined as 1210 s^(-1) at 25℃ and pH 7.0,which can be further enhanced up to 1786 s^(-1) at 50℃.The Faradaic efficiency at−0.6 V(vs.standard hydrogen electrode)is recorded as 99.3%in a 2-h reaction.Inhibition experiments and theoretical modeling disclose interesting pathways for CO_(2) entry,formate exit,and OCN−competition,suggesting an oxidation-state-dependent binding mechanism of catalysis.Our results provide a different perspective for understanding the catalytic mechanism of FDH and original insights into the design of synthetic catalysts.Wenjin Li Yanxin Gao Xuan Sun Lei Wan Haishuo Ji Hang Luo Yao Tian Hao Song Geng Wu Liyun Zhang 2023Carbon Energy2023,5,5:2
18Theory assisted design of N-doped tin oxides for enhanced electrochemical CO2 activation and reduction显示文摘Clearly understanding the structure-function relationship and rational design of efficient CO2 electrocatalysts are still the challenges.This article describes the molecular origin of high selectivity of formic acid on N-doped SnO2 nanoparticles,which obtained via thermal treatment of g-C3N4 and SnCl2·2H2O precursor.Combined with density functional theory(DFT)calculations,we discover that N-doping effectively introduces oxygen vacancies and increases the charge density of Sn sites,which plays a positive role in CO2 activation.In addition,N-doping further regulates the adsorption energy of^*OCHO,^*COOH,^*H and promotes HCOOH generation.Benefited from above modulation,the obtained N-doped SnO2 catalysts with oxygen vacancies(Ov-N-SnO2)exhibit faradaic efficiency of 93% for C1 formation,88% for HCOOH production and well-suppression of H2 evolution over a wide range of potentials.Congling Hu Lei Zhang Lulu Li Wenjin Zhu Wanyu Deng Hao Dong Zhi-Jian Zhao Jinlong Gong 2019Science China Chemistry2019,62,8:2
19Comparision of Methods for Polarimetric SAR Tomography with Small Number of Baselines in Forested Areas显示文摘Synthetic aperture radar Tomography (TomoSAR) provides scene reflectivity estimation of vegetation along elevation coordinates. However, the more multi-baselines acquisition, the longer the time span of acquisition, which will result in serious temporal decorrelation in forested area. In this way, we expect to use as smaller number of baselines as possible to obtain high estimation accuracy in elevation direction. We thus investigate the performance of Polarimetric SAR tomog-raphy (Pol-TomoSAR) with small number of baselines in forested areas. 20Comparison of temporal and spatial changes in three major tropical forests based on MODIS data显示文摘Numerous studies have shown that intact tropical forests account for half of the total terrestrial sink for anthropogenic carbon dioxide.Here,we analyzed and compared changes in three main tropical forest regions from 2000 to 2014,based on time-series analysis and landscape metrics derived from moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer data.We examined spatialpattern changes in percentage of tree cover and net primary production(NPP)for three tropical forest regions—Amazon basin,Congo basin,and Southeast Asia.The results show that:the Amazon basin region had the largest tropical forest area and total NPP and a better continuity of TC distribution;the Southeast Asia region exhibited a sharp decrease in NPP and had comparatively separate spatial patterns of both TC and NPP;and the Congo basin region exhibited a dramatic increase in NPP and had better aggregation of forest NPP distribution.Results also show that aggregative patterns likely correlate with high NPP values.Siyang Yin Wenjin Wu Xinwu Li 2019Journal of Forestry Research2019,30,5:1
