1The adsorption behavior of metals in aqueous solution by microplastics effected by UV radiation显示文摘Microplastics are considered as the carrier to heavy metals in the environment.But the sorption ability of microplastics influenced by photo-aging is remaining unclear.In the present study,the sorption of two kinds of metal ions(Cu^2+ and Zn^2+)in the aqueous solution by both the virgin and aged microplastics was investigated.Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)debris,one of the typical kinds of microplastics was chosen in this study.Photo-aging of microplastics in environment was simulated using UV radiation in the laboratory.Date analysis indicated that the aged microplastics had higher adsorption capacity of heavy metals than original ones.This could be related to the increased surface area and oxygen containing function appeared in the surface of aged microplastics after UV radiation.When prolonging the time of radiation,the enhanced adsorption capacities of microplastics appeared for Cu^2+ and Zn^2+.These results showed a great interaction between the aging degree of plastics and sorption capacity to heavy metals.Meanwhile,external conditions including temperature and pH value were also showed great influence to the adsorption behavior.Qiongjie Wang Yong Zhang Xiaoxue Wangjin Yulai Wang Guanhua Meng Yihua Chen 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1:47
2Mesoporous silica nanoparticles for drug and gene delivery显示文摘Mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MSNs) are attracting increasing interest for potential biomedical applications. With tailored mesoporous structure, huge surface area and pore volume,selective surface functionality, as well as morphology control, MSNs exhibit high loading capacity for therapeutic agents and controlled release properties if modified with stimuli-responsive groups, polymers or proteins. In this review article, the applications of MSNs in pharmaceutics to improve drug bioavailability, reduce drug toxicity, and deliver with cellular targetability are summarized. 3Dependence of Hurricane Intensity and Structures on Vertical Resolution and Time-Step Size显示文摘In view of the growing interests in the explicit modeling of clouds and precipitation, the effects of varyingvertical resolution and time-step sizes on the 72-h explicit simulation of Hurricane Andrew (1992) arestudied using the Pennsylvania State University/National Center for Atmospheric Research (PSU/NCAR)mesoscale model (i.e., MMS) with the finest grid size of 6 km. It is shown that changing vertical resolutionand time-step size has significant effects on hurricane intensity and inner-core cloud/precipitation, butlittle impact on the hurricane track. In general, increasing vertical resolution tends to produce a deeperstorm with lower central pressure and stronger three-dimensional winds, and more precipitation. Similareffects, but to a less extent, occur when the time-step size is reduced. It is found that increasing thelow-level vertical resolution is more efficient in intensifying a hurricane, whereas changing the upper-levelvertical resolution has little impact on the hurricane intensity. Moreover, the use of a thicker surface layertends to produce higher maximum surface winds. 6Transplantation of placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells reduces hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in rats by ameliorating the inflammatory response显示文摘Hypoxic-ischemic brain damage(HIBD)is a common cause of infant death.The purpose of our research was to explore the immunoregulatory mechanism of placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells(PD-MSCs)in HIBD treatment.Seven-day-old rat pups were randomly divided into HIBD,PD-MSC,fibroblast,and control groups.Forty-eight hours after HIBD induction,cells at a density of 5×104 cells/10µl were injected into the cerebral tissue in the PD-MSC and fibroblast groups.The TNF-α,interleukin-17(IL-17),interferon-γ(IFN-γ),and IL-10 levels were detected through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Regulatory T cell(Tregs)populations were detected through flow cytometry,and forkhead box P3(Foxp3)was measured through western blot analysis.Behavioral tests and gross and pathological examinations showed that PD-MSC treatment exerted significantly stronger neuroprotective effects than the other treatments.The expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines were substantially upregulated after HI injury.Compared with fibroblast treatment,PD-MSC treatment inhibited the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and increased the production of IL-10 in the ischemic hemispheres and peripheral blood serum(all P<0.01).Flow cytometry results showed a notable increase in the number of Tregs within the spleen of the HIBD group.Moreover,the number of Tregs and the Foxp3 expression levels were higher in the PD-MSC treatment group than in the HIBD and fibroblast groups(all P<0.01).Our research suggests that the mechanism of PD-MSC treatment for HIBD partially involves inflammatory response suppression.Hongfang Ding Hui Zhang Huifang Ding Dong Li Xinhao Yi Xiaoxu Ma Ruijuan Li Mei Huang Xiuli Ju 2017Cellular & Molecular Immunology2017,14,8:10
7Ferroptosis in cancer and cancer immunotherapy显示文摘The hallmark of tumorigenesis is the successful circumvention of cell death regulation for achieving unlimited replication and immortality.Ferroptosis is a newly identified type of cell death dependent on lipid peroxidation which differs from classical programmed cell death in terms of morphology,physiology and biochemistry.The broad spectrum of injury and tumor tolerance are the main reasons for radiotherapy and chemotherapy failure.The effective rate of tumor immunotherapy as a new treatment method is less than 30%.Ferroptosis can be seen in radiotherapy,chemotherapy,and tumor immunotherapy;therefore,fer-roptosis activation may be a potential strategy to overcome the drug resistance mechanism of traditional cancer treatments.In this review,the characteristics and causes of cell death by lipid peroxidation in ferroptosis are briefly described.In addition,the three metabolic regulations of ferroptosis and its crosstalk with classical signaling pathways are summarized.Collectively,these findings sug-gest the vital role of ferroptosis in immunotherapy based on the interaction of ferroptosis with tumor immunotherapy,chemotherapy and radiotherapy,thus,indicating the remarkable potential of ferroptosis in cancer treatment.Lei Zhao Xiaoxue Zhou Feng Xie Lei Zhang Haiyan Yan Jun Huang Chong Zhang Fangfang Zhou Jun Chen Long Zhang 2022Cancer Communications2022,42,2:10
8Application of Tertiary Amine Cationic Polyacrylamide with High Cationic Degree in Salt-free Dyeing of Reactive Dyes显示文摘Tertiary amine cationic polyacrylamide with high cationization degree was used as a new cationic agent to pretreat cotton with dip-pad-bake method. The obtained cationic cotton was dyed with reactive dyes in the ab-sence of electrolyte. The effects of the characteristics of the cationic agent and the pretreatment conditions on dye-ability of reactive dye were investigated. The results showed that the fixation and K/S values of the reactive dyes on the cationic cotton were improved compared with those on the untreated one in the presence of salt. Tests on fast-ness properties of the dyed cotton and fabric quality of the pretreated cotton were carried out and the results showed that wash and rub fastness of the salt-free dyeing were both satisfactory. 9Transcriptome analysis reveals long noncoding RNAs involved in fiber development in cotton (Gossypium arboreum)显示文摘Long noncoding RNAs(lnc RNAs)play important roles in various biological regulatory processes in yeast,mammals,and plants.However,no systematic identification of lnc RNAs has been reported in Gossypium arboreum.In this study,the strand-specific RNA sequencing(ss RNA-seq)of samples from cotton fibers and leaves was performed,and lnc RNAs involved in fiber initiation and elongation processes were systematically identified and analyzed.We identified 5,996 lnc RNAs,of which 3,510 and 2,486 can be classified as long intergenic noncoding RNAs(linc RNAs)and natural antisense transcripts(lnc NAT),respectively.Linc RNAs and lnc NATs are similar in many aspects,but have some differences in exon number,exon length,and transcript length.Expression analysis revealed that 51.9%of linc RNAs and 54.5%of lnc NATs transcripts were preferentially expressed at one stage of fiber development,and were significantly highly expressed than protein-coding transcripts(21.7%).During the fiber and rapid elongation stages,rapid and dynamic changes in lnc RNAs may contribute to fiber development in cotton.This work describes a set of lnc RNAs that are involved in fiber development.The characterization and expression analysis of lnc RNAs will facilitate future studies on their roles in fiber development in cotton.Changsong Zou Qiaolian Wang Cairui Lu Wencui Yang Youping Zhang Hailiang Cheng Xiaoxu Feng Mtawa Andrew Prosper Guoli Song 2016Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,2:9

11Revegetation with artificial plants improves topsoil hydrological properties but intensifies deep-soil drying in northern Loess Plateau,China显示文摘Knowledge about the effects of vegetation types on soil properties and on water dynamics in the soil profile is critical for revegetation strategies in water-scarce regions, especially the choice of vegetation type and human management measures. We focused on the analysis of the effects of vegetation type on soil hydrological properties and soil moisture variation in the 0–400 cm soil layer based on a long-term(2004―2016) experimental data in the northern Loess Plateau region, China. Soil bulk density(BD), saturated soil hydraulic conductivity(Ks), field capacity(FC) and soil organic carbon(SOC) in 2016, as well as the volumetric soil moisture content during 2004–2016, were measured in four vegetation types, i.e., shrubland(korshinsk peashrub), artificial grassland(alfalfa), fallow land and cropland(millet or potato). Compared with cropland, revegetation with peashrub and alfalfa significantly decreased BD and increased Ks, FC, and SOC in the 0–40 cm soil layer, and fallow land significantly increased FC and SOC in the 0–10 cm soil layer. Soil water storage(SWS) significantly declined in shrubland and grassland in the 40–400 cm soil layer, causing severe soil drought in the deep soil layers. The study suggested that converting cropland to grassland(alfalfa) and shrubland(peashrub) improved soil-hydrological properties, but worsened water conditions in the deep soil profile. However, natural restoration did not intensify deep-soil drying. 12Microstructure evolution of spray deposited and as-cast 2195 Al-Li alloys during homogenization显示文摘In this paper,a comparative study on the spray deposited and as-cast 2195 alloy was carried out to reveal their microstructure evolutions and differences during the homogenization process.The dissolution of the secondary particles and the diffusion of solute were studied based on microstructure characterization and kinetics analysis.The precipitation behavior of Al3Zr dispersoids and its influence on recrystallization were investigated by using TEM and EBSD characterization.It was found that the large-size particles at triangular grain boundaries dissolve slower than the intragranular phases and other grain boundary phases.The required homogenization time depends on the dissolution processes of the large-size phases at grain boundaries.The size of grain boundary phases in the spray deposited alloy is much smaller than that in the as-cast alloy,so the homogenization time required for the spray deposited alloy is significantly shorter.Two-stage and ramp heating homogenization processes can promote the precipitation of Al3Zr dispersoids in the two alloys.In the spray deposited alloy,the dispersoids tend to precipitate at the positions of the T1 plates dissolved,which causes a non-uniform distribution and decreases the recrystallization resistance of the alloy.However,the distribution of the dispersoids in the as-cast alloy is more uniform after the homogenization,which brings a stronger inhibition on the recrystallization.According to the microstructural characterization and kinetics analysis results,it can be concluded that the homogenization with a slow ramp heating is suitable for the two 2195 alloys,and a shorter holding time can be used for spray deposited alloy,e.g.12 h at 500℃,while the holding time for the as-cast alloy is no less than 35 h at 500℃.Yongxiao Wang Xinwu Ma Guoqun Zhao Xiao Xu Xiaoxue Chen Cunsheng Zhang 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,23:7
13Cordycepin promotes browning of white adipose tissue through an AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK)-dependent pathway显示文摘Obesity is a worldwide epidemic. Promoting browning of white adipose tissue(WAT)contributes to increased energy expenditure and hence counteracts obesity. Here we show that cordycepin(Cpn), a natural derivative of adenosine, increases energy expenditure, inhibits weight gain, improves metabolic profile and glucose tolerance, decreases WAT mass and adipocyte size, and enhances cold tolerance in normal and high-fat diet-fed mice. Cpn markedly increases the surface temperature around the inguinal WAT and turns the inguinal fat browner. Further investigations show that Cpn induces the development of brown-like adipocytes in inguinal and, to a less degree, epididymal WAT depots. Cpn also increases the expression of uncoupling protein 1(UCP1) and other thermogenic genes in WAT and3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, in which AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK) plays an important role. 16Effectiveness of Catch-Up Vaccinations after COVID-19 Containment--China,2020显示文摘Introduction:In the early stages of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)epidemic in China,the highest level of public health emergency response(Level 1 Response)was launched in all province-level administrative divisions(PLADs)across the country.Provision of vaccination services was selectively suspended due to the physical distancing and gathering restrictions required of Level 1 Response.The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on vaccination services and the effectiveness of selective vaccination service suspension and catch-up vaccinations in China.Methods:Vaccine doses administered,routine vaccination coverage levels,catch-up vaccine doses administered,and coverage levels after the catch-up campaign were determined from individual vaccination records in sampled clinics,standard routine immunization administrative coverage reports,and catch-up vaccination activity reports submitted by PLADs between October 2019 and October 2020.Results:National Immunization Program(NIP)and non-NIP vaccine doses administered in sampled clinics decreased by 80% and 90%,respectively,compared with doses administered before the COVID-19 pandemic.Coverage with the birth dose of hepatitis B vaccine(HepB1)and the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine(BCG)—two vaccinations recommended to continue throughout the epidemic due to their timecritical nature—were maintained at over 85%,while coverage of other NIP vaccines decreased to below 60%by February 2020.Catch-up vaccination coverage of the 29 PLADs,excluding Xinjiang and Xizang(Tibet),began in April 2020 and exceeded 90%;Hubei catch-up coverage was 95% by October 2020.Conclusions and Implications for Public Health Practice:The COVID-19 pandemic had a great impact on China’s vaccination services.During the epidemic and time of local transmission of the coronavirus,HepB1,BCG,rabies vaccine for postexposure prophylaxis,and tetanus antitoxin(TAT)for wound prophylaxis were maintained at high levels.Of the 69 million vaccine doses postponed during the time of local transmission of the coronavirus,94% were administered in the catch-up campaign.China’s pandemic immunization practices may provide evidence for other countries’immunization programs.Jing Wu Wenzhou Yu Lei Cao Lingsheng Cao Lance Rodewald Jiakai Ye Yifan Song Li Li Xiaoxue Liu Ning Wen Fuzhen Wang Lixin Hao Yixing Li Hui Zheng Keli Li Chao Ma Dan Wu Yanmin Liu Guomin Zhang Zhijie An Huaqing Wang Zundong Yin 2020China CDC weekly2020,2,50:6

19A nanoresonant gold-aptamer probe for rapid and sensitive detection of thrombin显示文摘Resonance light scattering (RLS) is a sensitive technique for monitoring scattered light induced by extended aggregates of chromophores. It has been widely used to study aggregations for its simple manipulation, high sensitivity and great versatility. Gold nanoparticles generate colorful light-scattering signals due to their unique surface plasmon resonances, hence extraordinary light scattering upon aggregation. In this paper we report a rapid and sensitive method based on gold nanoparticles and DNA aptamer to detect protein biomarkers by RLS. Thiol modified thrombin aptamer was covalently assembled to the surface of gold nanoparticles as nanobio probes. As thrombin has two specific binding sites for its aptamer, it can bridge the well dispersed nanoparticles and lead to a network of particle aggregations. The formation of aggregation ia measured by RLS, and the specific detection of thrombin at nM level is achieved. 20Responses of biotic interactions of dominant and subordinate species to decadal warming and simulated rotational grazing in Tibetan alpine meadow显示文摘Warming increases competition among plant species in alpine communities by ameliorating harsh environmental conditions,such as low temperatures. Grazing, as the main human activity, may mitigate the effect of warming, as previously reported.However, it is critical to refine the effects of warming on biotic interactions among species, for example, by taking the competitive ability of species into consideration. Based on a 10-year warming and grazing experiment in a Tibetan alpine meadow, we evaluated interspecific biotic interactions of dominant and subordinate species, using the approach of interspecific spatial associations. Warming significantly increased competition between subordinate and dominant species as well as among subordinate species, but not among dominant species. Moreover, facilitation of dominant-subordinate species also increased under warming. Simulated rotational grazing had similar effects to warming, with increasing interspecific competition. Our results show that, when studying the effects of warming on biotic interactions among species, it is necessary to characterize different species pairs relative to their competitive ability, and that simulated rotational grazing does not mitigate the effects of warming in the long term.
