An atomic force microscopy study of coal nanopore structure显示文摘Coal nanopore structure is an important factor in understanding the storage and migration of absorbed gas in coal. A new method for studying coal nanopore structures is proposed. This idea is based on the nano-level resolution of atomic force microscopy, which can be employed to observe the structural features of coal nanopores clearly, conduct quantitative three-dimensional measurements and obtain structural parameters. Analysis results show that coal nanopores are mainly metamorphic pores and intermolecular pores. The metamorphic pores are commonly rounded and elliptical, increasing quantitatively with the coalification degree. The forms of intermolecular pores change markedly. The average pore size of low-rank coal is bigger than high-rank coal, and the number of intermolecular pores decreases as the coal rank increases. Section analysis effectively characterizes the coal pore microstructure, bearing analysis is a vital approach to measure microporosity, and grain analysis can be employed to study the pore size distribution. Atomic force microscopy is a tool for the in-depth research of coal pore microstructure and the coal-bed methane adsorption mechanism.YAO SuPing JIAO Kun ZHANG Ke HU WenXuan DING Hai LI MiaoChun PEI WenMing 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,25:30

A Review on Metal-Organic Framework-Derived Porous Carbon-Based Novel Microwave Absorption Materials显示文摘The development of microwave absorption materials(MAMs) is a considerable important topic because our living space is crowed with electromagnetic wave which threatens human’s health. And MAMs are also used in radar stealth for protecting the weapons from being detected. Many nanomaterials were studied as MAMs,but not all of them have the satisfactory performance.Recently,metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) have attracted tremendous attention owing to their tunable chemical structures, diverse properties, large specific surface area and uniform pore distribution.MOF can transform to porous carbon(PC) which is decorated with metal species at appropriate pyrolysis temperature. However, the loss mechanism of pure MOF-derived PC is often relatively simple. In order to further improve the MA performance, the MOFs coupled with other loss materials are a widely studied method. In this review,we summarize the theories of MA,the progress of different MOF-derived PC-based MAMs,tunable chemical structures incorporated with dielectric loss or magnetic loss materials. The different MA performance and mechanisms are discussed in detail. Finally, the shortcomings, challenges and perspectives of MOF-derived PC-based MAMs are also presented. We hope this review could provide a new insight to design and fabricate MOF-derived PC-based MAMs with better fundamental understanding and practical application.Zhiwei Zhang Zhihao Cai Ziyuan Wang Yaling Peng Lun Xia Suping Ma Zhanzhao Yin Yi Huang 2021Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,4:17
Yin Yang 1(YY1) synergizes with Smad7 to inhibit TGF-β signaling in the nucleus显示文摘As a prototype of the TGF-βsuperfamily cytokines,TGF-βis well known for its diverse roles in embryogenesis and adult tissue homeostasis.TGF-βevokes cellular responses by signaling mainly through cell membrane receptors and transcription factor R-Smads and Co-Smad(Smad4),while an inhibitory Smad,Smad7,acts as a critical negative regulator of TGF-βsignaling.Smad7 antagonizes TGF-βsignaling by regulating the stability or activity of the receptors or blocking the DNA binding of the functional R-Smad-Smad4 complex in the nucleus. However, the function of Smad7 in the nucleus is not fully understood.Yin Yang 1(YY1)is a ubiquitously expressed transcription factor with multiple functions. It has been reported that YY1 can inhibit Smad-dependent transcriptional responses and TGF-β/BMP-induced cell differentiation independently of its DNA binding ability. In this study,we found that Smad7 interacts with YY1 and the interaction is attenuated by TGF-βsignaling.Reporter assays and target gene expression analyses revealed that Smad7 and YY1 act in concert to inhibit TGF-β-induced transcription in the nucleus.Furthermore,Smad7 could enhance the interaction of YY1 with the histone deacetylase HDAC1.Consistently,YY1 and HDAC1 augmented the transcription repression activity of Smad7 in Gal4-luciferase reporter analysis. Therefore, our findings define a novel mechanism of Smad7 and YY1 to antagonize TGF-βsignaling.YAN XiaoHua PAN Jun XIONG WanWan CHENG MinZhang SUN YingYuan ZHANG SuPing CHEN YeGuang 2014Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,1:10
Chinese herbal medicine reduces mortality in patients with severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019: a retrospective cohort study显示文摘This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)in patients with severe/critical coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).In this retrospective study, data were collected from 662 patients with severe/critical COVID-19 who were admitted to a designated hospital to treat patients with severe COVID-19 in Wuhan before March 20,2020.All patients were divided into an exposed group(CHM users)and a control group(non-users).After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio,156 CHM users were matched by propensity score to 156 non-users.No significant differences in seven baseline clinical variables were found between the two groups of patients.All-cause mortality was reported in 13 CHM users who died and 36 non-users who died. After multivariate adjustment, the mortality risk of CHM users was reduced by 82.2%(odds ratio 0.178,95%CI 0.076–0.418;P<0.001)compared with the non-users.Secondly,age(odds ratio 1.053,95%CI 1.023–1.084;P<0.001)and the proportion of severe/critical patients(odds ratio 0.063,95%CI 0.028–0.143;P<0.001)were the risk factors of mortality. These results show that the use of CHM may reduce the mortality of patients with severe/critical COVID-19.Guohua Chen Wen Su Jiayao Yang Dan Luo Ping Xia Wen Jia Xiuyang Li Chuan Wang Suping Lang Qingbin Meng Ying Zhang Yuhe Ke An Fan Shuo Yang Yujiao Zheng Xuepeng Fan Jie Qiao Fengmei Lian Li Wei Xiaolin Tong 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6:10
Variations in the Lower Level of the PBL Associated with the Yellow Sea Fog-New Observations by L-Band Radar显示文摘The Chinese east coastal areas and marginal seas are foggy regions. The development of effective forecasting methods rests upon a comprehensive knowledge of the fog phenomena. This study provides new observations associated with the sea fogs over the northwestern Yellow Sea by means of L-band radar soundings with a high vertical resolution of 30 m. The monthly temperature lapse rate, the Richardson Numbers, and the humidity show obvious seasonal variations in the lower level of the planetary boundary layer (PBL) that are related to the onset, peak and end of the Yellow Sea fog season. The typical pattern of stratification for the sea fog season in the northwestern Yellow Sea is that a stable layer of about 400 m thick caps a 150 m conditionally unstable layer. Besides, the differences between fogs and stratus clouds in terms of humidity, turbulence and temperature are analyzed, which is of significance for sea fog forecast and detection by satellites. The thickness of the sea fogs varies in different stages of the fog season, and is associated with the temperature inversion. The numerical simulation proves that the seasonal variations obtained by the radar well represent the situations over the Yellow Sea.ZHANG Suping REN Zhaopeng LIU Jingwu YANG Yuqiang WANG Xingong 2008Journal of Ocean University of China2008,7,4:10
Impact of Sea Surface Temperature Front on Stratus-Sea Fog over the Yellow and East China Seas-A Case Study with Implications for Climatology显示文摘A stratus-sea fog event that occurred over the Yellow and East China Seas on 3 June 2011 is investigated using observa-tions and a numerical model, with a focus on the effects of background circulation and Sea Surface Temperature Front (SSTF) on the transition of stratus into sea fog. Southerly winds of a synoptic high-pressure circulation transport water vapor to the Yellow Sea, creating conditions favorable for sea fog/stratus formation. The subsidence from the high-pressure contributes to the temperature inversion at the top of the stratus. The SSTF forces a secondary circulation within the ABL (Atmospheric Boundary Layer), the sink-ing branch of which on the cold flank of SSTF helps lower the stratus layer further to reach the sea surface. The cooling effect over the cold sea surface counteracts the adiabatic warming induced by subsidence. The secondary circulation becomes weak and the fog patches are shrunk heavily with the smoothed SSTF. A conceptual model is proposed for the transition of stratus into sea fog over the Yellow and East China Seas. Finally, the analyses suggest that sea fog frequency will probably decrease due to the weakened SSTF and the reduced subsidence of secondary circulation under global warming.LI Man ZHANG Suping 2013Journal of Ocean University of China2013,12,2:9
Detection of water in petroleum inclusions and its implications显示文摘FTIR spectra of inclusions sampled from fault-zone reservoirs of the northwestern Junggar Basin show that water, with different abundances, does exist in petroleum inclusions. It is thus implied that petroleum inclusions can seldom form without water. Different inclusions hosted in one single grain, and formed in one oil charging phase, have a largely varied ratio of water to oil and slightly changed CH3/CH2 ratio. This likely provides evidence for fault-related episodic migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons.CAO Jian YAO Suping HU Wenxuan ZHANG Yijie WANG Xulong ZHANG Yueqian TANG Yong 2006Chinese Science Bulletin2006,51,12:9
Secretory/releasing proteome-based identification of plasma biomarkers in HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘For successful therapy, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) must be detected at an early stage. Herein, we used a proteomic approach to analyze the secretory/releasing proteome of HCC tissues to identify plasma biomarkers. Serum-free conditioned media (CM) were collected from primary cultures of cancerous tissues and surrounding noncancerous tissues. Proteomic analysis of the CM proteins permitted the identification of 1365 proteins. The enriched molecular functions and biological processes of the CM proteins, such as hydrolase activity and catabolic processes, were consistent with the liver being the most important metabolic organ. Moreover, 19% of the proteins were characterized as extracellular or membrane-bound. For validation, secretory proteins involved in transforming growth factor-β signaling pathways were validated in plasma samples. Alphafetoprotein (AFP), metalloproteinase (MMP)1, osteopontin (OPN), and pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein (PSG)9 were significantly increased in HCC patients. The overall performance of MMP1 and OPN in the diagnosis of HCC remained greater than that of AFP. In addition, this study represents the first report of MMP1 as a biomarker with a higher sensitivity and specificity than AFP. Thus, this study provides a valuable resource of the HCC secretome with the potential to investigate serological biomarkers. MMP1 and OPN could be used as novel biomarkers for the early detection of HCC and to improve the sensitivity of biomarkers compared with AFP.YANG Lei RONG WeiQi XIAO Ting ZHANG Ying XU Bin LIU Yu WANG LiMing WU Fan QI Jun ZHAO XiuYing WANG HongXia HAN NaiJun GUO SuPing WU JianXiong GAO YanNing CHENG ShuJun 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,7:9
Estimation of reproduction numbers of COVID-19 in typical countries and epidemic trends under different prevention and control scenarios显示文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has become a life-threatening pandemic. The epidemic trends in different countries vary considerably due to different policy-making and resources mobilization. We calculated basic reproduction number(R0)and the time-varying estimate of the effective reproductive number(Rt)of COVID-19 by using the maximum likelihood method and the sequential Bayesian method, respectively.European and North American countries possessed higher (R0)and unsteady Rt fluctuations, whereas some heavily affected Asian countries showed relatively low (R0)and declining Rt now.The numbers of patients in Africa and Latin America are still low,but the potential risk of huge outbreaks cannot be ignored.Three scenarios were then simulated, generating distinct outcomes by using SEIR(susceptible, exposed, infectious, and removed)model.First,evidence-based prompt responses yield lower transmission rate followed by decreasing Rt.Second, implementation of effective control policies at a relatively late stage,in spite of huge casualties at early phase, can still achieve containment and mitigation.Third, wisely taking advantage of the time-window for developing countries in Africa and Latin America to adopt adequate measures can save more people’s life. Our mathematical modeling provides evidence for international communities to develop sound design of containment and mitigation policies for COVID-19.Chen Xu Yinqiao Dong Xiaoyue Yu Huwen Wang Lhakpa Tsamlag Shuxian Zhang Ruijie Chang Zezhou Wang Yuelin Yu Rusi Long Ying Wang Gang Xu Tian Shen Suping Wang Xinxin Zhang Hui Wang Yong Cai 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,5:8
Causes and Changes of Drought in China:Research Progress and Prospects显示文摘Drought is one of the most serious and extensive natural hazards in the world.Subject to monsoon climate variability,China is particularly influenced by drought hazards, especially meteorological drought.Based on a comprehensive understanding of the current status of international drought research, this paper systematically reviews the history and achievements of drought research in China since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, from four main perspectives:characteristics and spatiotemporal distribution of historical and recent drought events, drought formation mechanism and change trend, drought hazard risk, and the particular flash drought. The progress and problems of drought research in China are analyzed and future prospects are proposed, with emphasis on the multi-factor synergetic effect for drought formation;the effect of land-atmosphere interaction;identification, monitoring, and prediction of flash drought;categorization of drought and characteristics among various types of drought;the agricultural drought development;drought response to climate warming;and assessment of drought hazard risks. It is suggested that strengthening scientific experimental research on drought in China is imperative. The present review is conducive to strategic planning of drought research and application, and may facilitate further development of drought research in China.Qiang ZHANG Yubi YAO Yaohui LI Jianping HUANG Zhuguo MA Zhilan WANG Suping WANG Ying WANG Yu ZHANG 2020Journal of Meteorological Research2020,34,3:8
Discovery of low-mature hydrocarbon in manganese nodules and ooze from the Central Pacific deep sea floor显示文摘Extracts from manganese nodules and ooze from the Central Pacific deep sea floor were analyzed using the chromatogram-mass spectrum, and it was found that most of the biomarker molecules are of the low-mature type (some have characteristics of mature): the ratio of 'A'/C is high between 11.4%-19.75%; CPI is 1.22-1.23; C31-22S/ (22S+22R) hopane is 0.59-0.60, Tm/Ts is 0.99-1.99; pa moretane/(αβ+βα) hopane is 0.12-0.14; C29 sterane 20S/(20S+20R) is 0.35-0.41; ββ/(ββ+αα) is 0.38-0.45; arene TA(I)/TA(I+Ⅱ) is 0.16-0.21; methyl-phenanthrene index (MPI1) is 0.35-0.67. According to the geological settings of the sampling area and its organic geochemical characteristics, it is considered that the hydrothermal activities on the ocean floor facilitate the decomposition of organic matter in the sediment, which leads to the generation and migration of hydrocarbon into manganese nodules and ooze. This discovery is important for understanding the mechanisms of hydrocarbon generation in the ocean floor andHU Wenxuan JIN Zhijun YAO Suping LU Xiancai CHEN Zhilin ZHANG Linye ZHANG Xuejun ZHOU Huaiyang 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,11:7
Advanced smart biomaterials and constructs for hard tissue engineering and regeneration显示文摘Hard tissue repair and regeneration cost hundreds of billions of dollars annually worldwide, and the need has substantially increased as the population has aged. Hard tissues include bone and tooth structures that contain calcium phosphate minerals.Smart biomaterial-based tissue engineering and regenerative medicine methods have the exciting potential to meet this urgent need. Smart biomaterials and constructs refer to biomaterials and constructs that possess instructive/inductive or triggering/stimulating effects on cells and tissues by engineering the material's responsiveness to internal or external stimuli or have intelligently tailored properties and functions that can promote tissue repair and regeneration. The smart material-based approaches include smart scaffolds and stem cell constructs for bone tissue engineering; smart drug delivery systems to enhance bone regeneration; smart dental resins that respond to pH to protect tooth structures; smart pH-sensitive dental materials to selectively inhibit acid-producing bacteria; smart polymers to modulate biofilm species away from a pathogenic composition and shift towards a healthy composition; and smart materials to suppress biofilms and avoid drug resistance. These smart biomaterials can not only deliver and guide stem cells to improve tissue regeneration and deliver drugs and bioactive agents with spatially and temporarily controlled releases but can also modulate/suppress biofilms and combat infections in wound sites. The new generation of smart biomaterials provides exciting potential and is a promising opportunity to substantially enhance hard tissue engineering and regenerative medicine efficacy.Ke Zhang Suping Wang Chenchen Zhou Lei Cheng Xianling Gao Xianju Xie Jirun Sun Haohao Wang Michael D.Weir Mark A.Reynolds Ning Zhang Yuxing Bai Hockin H.K.Xu 2018Bone Research2018,6,4:6
The function and clinical application of extracellular vesicles in innate immune regulation显示文摘The innate immune system plays a crucial role in the host defense against viral and microbial infection.Exosomes constitute a subset of extracellular vesicles(EVs)that can be released by almost all cell types.Owing to their capacity to shield the payload from degradation and to evade recognition and subsequent removal by the immune system, exosomes efficiently transport functional components to recipient cells.Accumulating evidence has recently shown that exosomes derived from tumor cells, host cells and even bacteria and parasites mediate the communication between the invader and innate immune cells and thus play an irreplaceable function in the dissemination of pathogens and donor cell-derived molecules, modulating the innate immune responses of the host.In this review,we describe the current understanding of EVs(mainly focusing on exosomes)and summarize and discuss their crucial roles in determining innate immune responses.Additionally,we discuss the potential of using exosomes as biomarkers and cancer vaccines in diagnostic and therapeutic applications.Xiaoxue Zhou Feng Xie Lin Wang Long Zhang Suping Zhang Meiyu Fang Fangfang Zhou 2020Cellular & Molecular Immunology2020,17,4:6
Heavy mineral assemblage characteristics and the Cenozoic paleogeographic evolution in southwestern Qaidam Basin显示文摘Based on the analysis of heavy mineral assemblages in Cenozoic southwestern Qaidam Basin, we found that different areas have variable heavy mineral assemblage characteristics, which suggested that there were two source areas—the Altyn Mountains and the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun Mountains. In Ganchaigou-Shizigou-Huatugou(Area A), which was mainly source from the Altyn Mountains, its heavy minerals were mainly composed of zircon, Ti-oxides, and wollastonite in the Paleoceneearly Eocene and mainly of unstable minerals, especially amphibole, in the middle Eocene-Oligene. Since the late OligoceneMiocene, the heavy minerals were still mainly unstable minerals, but the content of epidote increased and the content of amphibole decreased. In Qigequan-Hongliuquan(Area B), which was the mixed source from the Altyn Mountains and the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun Mountains, its heavy minerals were mainly garnet, epidote, and amphibole. The source of LücaotanDongchaishan-Kunbei(Area C) was mainly from the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun Mountains, heavy minerals in the sediments in Area C were mainly zircon and Ti-oxides in Paleogene and garnet, epidote, and amphibole in Neogene. In Yuejin-Youshashan(Area D), where the stable minerals and unstable minerals were present simultaneously, the heavy mineral assemblages was controlled by multi-direction source. The variation of heavy mineral assemblages in southwestern Qaidam Basin shows that Altyn Mountains was of low-lying topographic relief in Paleocene-early Eocene, and the rapid uplift of Altyn Mountains started from the middle Eocene. In Paleogene, the Altyn Tagh Fault had a slow strike-slip velocity, but the strike-slip velocity increased greatly since the late Oligocene, leading to a strike-slip displacement above 300 km since Neogene. Meanwhile, the Qimen Tagh-East Kunlun fault zone was under a stable tectonic stage in Paleogene with the Qimen Tagh Mountain being lowlying hills; since the late Oligocene, the fault zone started to activate and the Qimen Tagh Mountain began to uplift rapidly.LI LinLin GUO ZhaoJie GUAN ShuWei ZHOU SuPing WANG MingZhen FANG YaNan ZHANG ChenChen 2015Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,6:6
The Effect of the East China Sea Kuroshio Front on the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer显示文摘Various satellite data,JRA-25(Japan reanalysis of 25 years) reanalyzed data and WRF(Weather Research Forecast) model are used to investigate the in situ effect of the ESKF(East China Sea Kuroshio Front) on the MABL(marine atmospheric boundary layer). The intensity of the ESKF is most robust from January to April in its annual cycle. The local strong surface northerly/northeasterly winds are observed right over the ESKF in January and in April and the wind speeds decrease upward in the MABL.The thermal wind effect that is derived from the baroclinic MABL forced by the strong SST gradient contributes to the strong surface winds to a large degree. The convergence zone existing along the warm flank of the ESKF is stronger in April than in January corresponding to the steeper SST(sea surface temperature) gradient. The collocations of the cloud cover maximum and precipitation maximum are basically consistent with the convergence zone of the wind field. The clouds develop higher(lower) in the warm(cold) flank of the ESKF due to the less(more) stable stratification in the MABL.The lowest clouds are observed in April on the cold flank of the ESKF and over the Yellow Sea due to the existence of the pronounced temperature inversion. The numerical experiments with smoothed SST are consistent with the results from the ovservations.ZHANG Suping LIU Jingwu MENG Xiangui 2010Journal of Ocean University of China2010,9,3:5

The Structure and Formation Mechanism of a Sea Fog Event over the Yellow Sea显示文摘In this paper, a heavy sea fog event occurring over the Yellow Sea on 11 April 2004 was investigated based upon observational and modeling analyses. From the observational analyses, this sea fog event is a typical advection cooling case. Sea surface temperature(SST) and specific humidity(SH) show strong gradients from south to north, in which warm water is located in the south and consequently, moisture is larger in the south than in the north due to evaporation processes. After fog formation, evaporation process provides more moisture into the air and further contributes to fog evolution. The sea fog event was reproduced by the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System(RAMS) reasonably. The roles of important physical processes such as radiation, turbulence as well as atmospheric stratification in sea fog's structure and its formation mechanisms were analyzed using the model results. The roles of long wave radiation cooling, turbulence as well as atmospheric stratification were analyzed based on the modeling results. It is found that the long wave radiative cooling at the fog top plays an important role in cooling down the fog layer through turbulence mixing. The fog top cooling can overpower warming from the surface. Sea fog develops upward with the aid of turbulence. The buoyancy term, i.e., the unstable layer, contributes to the generation of TKE in the fog region. However, the temperature inversion layer prevents fog from growing upward.GUO Jingtian LI Pengyuan FU Gang ZHANG Wei GAO Shanhong ZHANG Suping 2015Journal of Ocean University of China2015,14,1:4
