1Sini powder ameliorates the inflammatory response in rats with stress-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa-B/pyrin domain-containing protein 3 pathway显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of Sini powder for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) in rats and the molecular mechanisms involved.METHODS: A rat model of stress-induced NAFLD was established by a combination of long-term tethering and feeding of a high-fat, high-calorie diet. These rats were then intragastrically administered with either simvastatin, Sini powder, or vehicle for 1 week. The body mass and field test scores for each group were recorded weekly. Serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activities, and triglyceride, total cholesterol,and free fatty acid concentrations were measured.Liver tissue histopathology was examined on hematoxylin and eosin-stained paraffin sections and oil red O-stained frozen sections. The hepatic m RNA expression of nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB),NOD-, LRR-, and pyrin domain-containing protein 3(NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing CARD(ASC), and caspase-1 were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). The hepatic protein concentrations of NF-κB and NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, interleukin-1β(IL-1β), interleukin-6(IL-6), and the serum concentrations of IL-1β and IL-6 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS: Compared with the Blank group, rats in the Compound model group showed significant pathologic manifestations of NAFLD, and the expression of NF-κB, NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, IL-1βand IL-6 were significantly higher(all P < 0.01). Both simvastatin and Sini powder significantly ameliorated the NAFLD pathology and the abnormal expression of NF-κB, NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-6(all P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Sini powder inhibits the inflamma-tory response in rats with NAFLD, which is mediated by NF-κB/NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-6, reduces the effects of psychological stress, and improves lipid metabolism. 3Machine learning-based estimates of aboveground biomass of subalpine forests using Landsat 8 OLI and Sentinel-2B images in the Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve,Eastern Tibet Plateau显示文摘Accurate estimates of forest aboveground biomass(AGB)are critical for supporting strategies of ecosystem conservation and climate change mitigation.The Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve,located in Eastern Tibet Plateau,has rich forest resources on steep slopes and is very sensitive to climate change but plays an important role in the regulation of regional carbon cycles.However,an estimation of AGB of subalpine forests in the Nature Reserve has not been carried out and whether a global biomass model is available has not been determined.To provide this information,Landsat 8 OLI and Sentinel-2B data were combined to estimate subalpine forest AGB using linear regression,and two machine learning approaches–random forest and extreme gradient boosting,with 54 inventory plots.Regardless of forest type,Observed AGB of the Reserve varied from 61.7 to 475.1 Mg hawith an average of 180.6 Mg ha.Results indicate that integrating the Landsat 8 OLI and Sentinel-2B imagery significantly improved model efficiency regardless of modelling approaches.The results highlight a potential way to improve the prediction of forest AGB in mountainous regions.Modelled AGB indicated a strong spatial variability.However,the modelled biomass varied greatly with global biomass products,indicating that global biomass products should be evaluated in regional AGB estimates and more field observations are required,particularly for areas with complex terrain to improve model accuracy.Ke Luo Yufeng Wei Jie Du Liang Liu Xinrui Luo Yuehong Shi Xiangjun Pei Ningfei Lei Ci Song Jingji Li Xiaolu Tang 2022Journal of Forestry Research2022,33,4:2
4Assessing the Effect of Global Travel and Contact Restrictions on Mitigating the COVID-19 Pandemic显示文摘Travel restrictions and physical distancing have been implemented across the world to mitigate the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,but studies are needed to understand their effectiveness across regions and time.Based on the population mobility metrics derived from mobile phone geolocation data across 135 countries or territories during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020,we built a metapopulation epidemiological model to measure the effect of travel and contact restrictions on containing COVID-19 outbreaks across regions.We found that if these interventions had not been deployed,the cumulative number of cases could have shown a 97-fold(interquartile range 79–116)increase,as of May 31,2020.However,their effectiveness depended upon the timing,duration,and intensity of the interventions,with variations in case severity seen across populations,regions,and seasons.Additionally,before effective vaccines are widely available and herd immunity is achieved,our results emphasize that a certain degree of physical distancing at the relaxation of the intervention stage will likely be needed to avoid rapid resurgences and subsequent lockdowns.Shengjie Lai Nick W.Ruktanonchai Alessandra Carioli Corrine W.Ruktanonchai Jessica R.Floyd Olivia Prosper Chi Zhang Xiangjun Du Weizhong Yang Andrew J.Tatem 2021Engineering2021,7,7:2
5The role of NiFe_(2)O_(4)nanoparticle in the anaerobic digestion(AD)of waste activated sludge(WAS)显示文摘Anaerobic digestion(AD)is a promising technology for the treatment of waste activated sludge(WAS)with energy recovery.However,the low methane yield and slow methanogenesis limit its broad application.In this study,the NiFe_(2)O_(4)nanoparticles(NPs)were fabricated and applied as a conductive material to enhance the AD via promoting the direct interspecies electron transfer(DIET).The crystal structure,specific surface area,morphology and elemental composition of the as-prepared NiFe_(2)O_(4)NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).The biochemical methane potential(BMP)test was performed(lasting for 35 days)to evaluate the energy recovery in AD with the addition of the NiFe_(2)O_(4)NPs.The results illustrate that NiFe_(2)O_(4)NPs could accelerate both the hydrolysis,acidogenesis and methanogenesis,i.e.,the cumulative methane production and daily methane yield increased from 96.76±1.70 mL/gVS and 8.24±1.26 mL gVS^(-1)d^(-1)in the absence of NiFe_(2)O_(4)NPs(Group A)to 123.69±3.20 mL/gVS and 9.71±0.77 mL gVS^(-1)d^(-1)in the presence of NiFe_(2)O_(4)NPs(Group B).The model simulation results showed that both the first-order kinetic model and the modified Gompertz model can well simulate the experimental results.The hydrolysis rate constant k increased from 0.04±0.01 d^(-1)in Group A to 0.06±0.01 d^(-1)in Group B.And the maximum methane production potential and activity were both improved after adding NiFe_(2)O_(4).The microbial community analysis revealed that the microorganisms associated with hydrolysis and acidogenesis were more abundant in the presence of NiFe_(2)O_(4).And the methanogenic archaea were enriched to a larger extent,resulted in the higher methanogenesis activities via dosing NiFe_(2)O_(4).Lihong Zhou Xueqian Yan Xiangjun Pei Jie Du Rui Ma Jin Qian 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,1:0
6Degree of Humification in Fresh Litter from a Subtropical Mixed Plantation Forest in Southwest China显示文摘The humification degree of fresh litter directly controls the accumulation of soil humus derived from plant litter,but very little information on this process is available.Planted forests are well known to restrict soil fertility,which is often indicated by the soil humus level.In this study,fresh litter was collected during different plant phenological stages during 2016 and 2017 in a mixed plantation in Southwest China.The values of hue coefficientΔlogK(absorbance ratio of 400 nm and 600 nm on a logarithmic scale),optical density E4/E6(absorbance ratio of 400 nm and 600 nm)and A600/C(absorbance at 600 mm per mg of carbon per ml of extraction)and the concentration of extractable humus carbon(HC)were determined in four litter components(foliar,twigs,reproductive organs and miscellaneous)of the dominant species(Pterocarya stenoptera,Quercus acutissima,Cunninghamia lanceolata and Toxicodendron vernicifluum).All of the litter components exhibited obvious humification characteristics,and showed the highest concentration of extractable HC during the leaf maturation period.The miscellaneous and foliar litters showed greater humification than the other litter types.The components of Pterocarya stenoptera litter exhibited greater degrees of humification than those of the other species,with lowerΔlogK and E4/E6 values and higher A600/C values.The litter from coniferous and evergreen species showed lower humification than that from broad-leaf and deciduous species regardless of the litter component examined.The present results provide new insights into the management of plantations and theoretical data to accurately improve the quality of plantations and maintain soil fertility under a global change.Fujia Wu Chengming You Jie Du Xiangjun Pei Ningfei Lei Bo Tan Huixing Song 2021Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,2:0
7The Exploration of Trimeresurus Divided to Multiple Genera Based on Molecular Systematics显示文摘According to the contradictions about classification on Trimeresurus between ' China's Fauna' and international database,the rationality about Trimeresurus divided to multiple genera based on molecular systematics was discussed. The genetic distance was calculated by sequencing 12S gene of the original Trimeresurus snakes,including 80 individuals of 33 species; and the molecular phylogenetic tree was established by taking Hypnale hypnale as the outgroup. The results showed that the topological structures of ME tree and ML tree were basically consistent,and all of the species in the molecular trees were divided into 8 branches;and the difference of T. albolabris between Hainan and other locations is not obvious. 8The Study on Taxonomic Status of Trimeresurus stejnegeri chenbihuii Based on Scale Counting Method显示文摘[Objectives] This study was conducted to further investigate the taxonomic status of Hainan population of Trimeresurus stejnegeri from the morphological point of view.[Methods]The difference coefficients between different populations were compared using the 75% law,and the relationship between scales and latitudes was analyzed.[Results] The scales(abdominal and subcaudal) of 325 Trimeresurus individuals were counted according to China Animal Fauna,including156 T.stejnegeri individuals.Some difference coefficients between the Hainan population and others were greater than 1.28,and there was no correlation between the number of scales and latitude.It conforms to subclassification criteria.[Conclusions]The view about the subspecies status of T.stejnegeri chenbihuii should be supported.Xiangjun WANG Wen CHEN Haili TANG Yu DU Chixian LIN Wenjin CHEN 2020Agricultural Biotechnology2020,9,2:0
