1Heavy metal pollution in intertidal sediments from Quanzhou Bay, China显示文摘The concentrations of eight heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg, and As) in the intertidal surface sediments from Quanzhou Bay were determined to evaluate their levels and spatial distribution due to urbanization and economic development of Quanzhou region, southeast China. The ranges of the measured concentrations in the sediments are as follows: 24.8–119.7 mg/kg for Cu, 105.5–241.9 mg/kg for Zn, 34.3–100.9 mg/kg for Pb, 0.28–0.89 mg/kg for Cd, 51.1–121.7 mg/kg for Cr, 16.1–45.7 mg/kg for Ni, 0.17–0.74 mg/kg for Hg, and 17.7–30.2 mg/kg for As. The overall average concentrations of above metals exceed the primary standard criteria but meet the secondary standard criteria of the Chinese National Standard of Marine Sediment Quality. Several contents of Cu and Hg exceed the secondary standard criteria at some stations. The results of geoaccumulation index (Igeo) show that Cd causes strong pollution in most of the study area. There are no significant correlations among most of these heavy metals, indicating they have different anthropogenic and natural sources. 2Flow properties of three fuel powders显示文摘Flow and physical properties were measured for three fuel powders:sawdust,brown coal and hard coal.Besides physical properties,e.g.,particle size,bulk density and moisture content,flowability was investigated using the standard shear testing technique of the Jenike shear cell.Flow functions of the three powders used for characterization of bulk flow and design of hoppers were determined,and then compared and discussed.The flow functions of the three powders are located in different regions:while brown coal and hard coal were classified respectively as easy flowing and cohesive material,sawdust was found in regions varying from cohesive to easy flowing at low consolidation stress.The measured effective angle of internal friction and angle of wall friction were 55°and 31.4°for sawdust;36.2°and 26° for brown coal;and 43.3°and 27.8°for hard coal.Using the measured powder flow properties,Jenike's procedure was then followed to estimate and compare the critical hopper dimensions for mass flow of the three powders.Pan Chen Zhulin Yuan Xianglin Shen Yuanyuan Zhang 2012Particuology2012,10,4:8
3Irinotecan plus S-1 versus S-1 in patients with previously treated recurrent or metastatic esophageal cancer(ESWN 01):a prospective randomized,multicenter,open-labeled phase 3 trial显示文摘Background:The benefit of systemic treatments in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)which has pro-gressed after chemotherapy is still uncertain and optimal regimens based on randomized trials have not yet been established.We aimed to compare the efficacy of irinotecan plus S-1 with S-1 monotherapy in recurrent or metastatic ESCC patients who had resistance to platinum-or taxane-based chemotherapy.Methods:We conducted a prospective randomized,multicenter,open-label,phase 3 trial in 15 centers across China.Eligible patients were adults with histologically confirmed recurrent or metastatic ESCC,and were randomly assigned(ratio,1:1)to receive either irinotecan plus S-1(intravenous infusion of irinotecan[160 mg/m2]on day 1 and oral S-1[80-120 mg]on days 1-10,repeated every 14 days)or oral S-1 monotherapy(80-120 mg/day on days 1-14,repeated every 21 days)using a central computerized minimization procedure.The primary endpoint was progression-free survival(PFS).Results:Between December 23,2014 and July 25,2016,we screened 148 patients and randomly assigned 123 patients to receive either irinotecan plus S-1 regimen(n=61)or S-1 monotherapy(n=62).After a median follow-up of 29.2 months(95%confidence interval[CI]17.5-40.9 months),the median PFS was significantly longer in the irinotecan plus S-1 group than in the S-1 monotherapy group(3.8 months[95%CI 2.9-4.3 months]vs.1.7 months[95%CI 1.4-2.7 months],hazard ratio=0.58,95%CI 0.38-0.86,P=0.006).The objective response rates were 24.6%in the irinotecan plus S-1 group and 9.7%in the S-1 monotherapy group(P=0.002).The patients in the irinotecan plus S-1 group presented with increased rates of grade 3-4 leukopenia(16.4%vs.0%),neutropenia(14.8%vs.1.6%),and nausea(4.9%vs.0%).No significant difference in grade 3-4 diarrhea and no treatment-related deaths were observed in both groups.Conclusions: The combination of irinotecan with S-1 was similarly tolerable but significantly prolonged PFS compared to S-1 monotherapy as a second- or third-line treatment in patients with recurrent or metastatic ESCC.Jing Huang Binghe Xu Ying Liu Junxing Huang Ping Lu Yi Ba Lin Wu Yuxian Bai Shu Zhang Jifeng Feng Ying Cheng Jie Li Lu Wen Xianglin Yuan Changwu Ma Chunhong Hu Qingxia Fan Xi Wang 2019Cancer Communications2019,39,1:8

6Efficacy and safety of berberine in the prophylactic treatment of acute radiation proctitis in postoperative patients with cervical cancer:a randomized controlled study显示文摘Objective The aiom of this study was to study the efficacy and safety of berberine as a prophylactic treatment of acute radiation proctitis in postoperative patients with cervical cancer.Methods A total of 120 postoperative patients with cervical cancer were enrolled between July 2016 and October 2019,and randomly divided into a treatment group(berberine 300 mg three times a day,n=60)and a control group(receiving vitamin C tablets,100 mg three times a day;n=60)using the random number table method.All patients received pelvic intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT)and concurrent sensitizing chemotherapy weekly.The difference in the percentage of irradiation volume to the rectum and small intestine as well as the incidence,onset time,severity,and duration of acute radiation proctitis and cystitis during radiotherapy were compared between the two groups.The completion rate,completion time,number of chemotherapy sessions,and quality of life during radiotherapy were also compared.Results There were no statistical differences in age,FIGO stage,pathological type,complications,highrisk factors,and rectum and small intestine irradiation dose distribution(V20,V30,V40,and V50)between the two groups(P>0.05).No acute radiation proctitis of grade 3 or above occurred in the two groups.There was no significant difference in the incidence of acute radiation cystitis,grade 2 acute radiation proctitis,completion rate of IMRT,and frequency of sensitization chemotherapy between the two groups.After prophylactic treatment with berberine,the incidence of grade 1 acute radiation proctitis,occurrence of grade 1 radiation proctitis,and completion time of radiotherapy in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The SF-36 score of the treatment group after radiotherapy was 67.53±4.21,which was significantly better than that of the control group(64.90±6.32;P<0.05).The incidence of grade 3-4 neutropenia in the treatment group was 10%and lower than that in the control group(31.7%,P=0.003).No adverse reactions related to berberine were observed.Conclusion Prophylactic prescription with oral berberine can reduce the incidence,onset time,and duration of grade 1 acute radiation proctitis,and improve the quality of life of postoperative patients with cervical cancer receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy.Kai Qin Yi Cheng Xianglin Yuan Jing Zhang Le Huang 2021Oncology and Translational Medicine2021,7,1:2
7Dietary butyrate,lauric acid and stearic acid improve gut morphology and epithelial cell turnover in weaned piglets显示文摘This study was to evaluate the effects of the supplementation of saturated fatty acids with different chain lengths on growth performance,intestinal morphology,epithelial cell proliferation,differentiation and apoptosis in weaned piglets.Thirty-two weaned piglets(Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire,BW=7.81±0.26 kg)were weaned at 21 d and randomly assigned to 1 of 4 experimental treatments:(1)a basal diet(control);(2)control+0.3% butyrate(BT);(3)control+0.3%lauric acid(LA);(4)control+0.3% stearic acid(SA).All piglets were then slaughtered for tissue sampling after having been fed experimental diets for 28 d after weaning.Supplementation of BT increased the gain-to-feed ratio(G:F)(P<0.05)compared to piglets fed the control diet from 14 to 28 d.In addition,the villus height(VH)to crypt depth(CD)ratio(VH:CD ratio)of the ileum were higher in the BT and LA diets than that of the control diet(P<0.05).The SA-supplemented diet increased ileal VH(P<0.05),whereas the BT-supplemented diet increased jejunal CD(P<0.05).Compared to the control,diets supplemented with BT,LA,or SA all tended to increase jejunal proliferation(Ki67/crypt positive cells)(P=0.190);diets supplemented with BT or SA significantly increased the number of ki67-positive cells in the ileal crypt(P<0.05).Furthermore,in the jejunum,the protein expression of activated caspase 3 and villin were increased in piglets fed BT,LA,or SA diets compared to those on the control diet(P<0.05).In the ileum,compared with the control diet,the BT diet tended to increase the protein level of mammalian phosphorylation target of rapamycin(p-m TOR,P<0.10);LA or SA diets significantly increased p-m TOR protein expression(P<0.05).These results show that dietary supplementation of BT,LA,or SA promotes jejunal cell renewal in weaned piglets.At the same time,increased proliferation of ileal crypt cells by promoting p-m TOR expression has beneficial effects on ileal morphology in weaned piglets.Xianglin Zeng Yuan Yang Junmin Wang Zhaobin Wang Jun Li Yulong Yin Huansheng Yang 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,4:2
8Combining radiation and the ATR inhibitor berzosertib activates STING signaling and enhances immunotherapy via inhibiting SHP1 function in colorectal cancer显示文摘Background:Immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)targeting programmed cell death protein 1(PD-1)and programmed death-ligand 1(PD-L1)have shown a moderate response in colorectal cancer(CRC)with deficient mismatch repair(dMMR)functions and poor response in patients with proficientMMR(pMMR).pMMRtumors are generally immunogenically“cold”,emphasizing combination strategies to turn the“cold”tumor“hot”to enhance the efficacy of ICIs.ATR inhibitors(ATRi)have been proven to cooperate with radiation to promote antitumor immunity,but it is unclear whether ATRi could facilitate the efficacy of IR and ICI combinations in CRCs.This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of combining ATRi,irradiation(IR),and anti-PD-L1 antibodies in CRC mouse models with different microsatellite statuses.Methods:The efficacy of combining ATRi,IR,and anti-PD-L1 antibodies was evaluated in CRC tumors.The tumor microenvironment and transcriptome signatures were investigated under different treatment regimens.The mechanisms were explored via cell viability assay,flow cytometry,immunofluorescence,immunoblotting,co-immunoprecipitation,and real-time quantitative PCR in multiple murine and human CRC cell lines.Results:Combining ATRi berzosertib and IR enhanced CD8+T cell infiltration and enhanced the efficacy of anti-PD-L1 therapy in mouse CRC models with different microsatellite statuses.The mechanistic study demonstrated that IR+ATRi could activate both the canonical cGAS-STING-pTBK1/pIRF3 axis by increasing cytosolic double-stranded DNA levels and the non-canonical STING signaling by attenuating SHP1-mediated inhibition of the TRAF6-STINGp65 axis,via promoting SUMOylation of SHP1 at lysine 127.By boosting the STING signaling,IR+ATRi induced type I interferon-related gene expression and strong innate immune activation and reinvigorated the cold tumor microenvironment,thus facilitating immunotherapy.Conclusions:The combination of ATRi and IR could facilitate anti-PD-L1 therapy by promoting STING signaling in CRC models with different microsatellite statuses.The new combination strategy raised by our study isworth investigating in the management of CRC.Chaofan Liu Xi Wang Wan Qin Jingyao Tu Chunya Li Weiheng Zhao Li Ma Bo Liu Hong Qiu Xianglin Yuan 2023Cancer Communications2023,43,4:1

12Comparable outcomes but higher risks of prolonged viral RNA shedding duration and secondary infection in cancer survivors with COVID-19: A multi-center, matched retrospective cohort study显示文摘Results Sixty-one cancer survivors and 183 matched non-cancer patients were screened from 2,828 COVID-19 infected patients admitted to 4 hospitals in Wuhan,China.The median ages of the cancer survivor cohort and non-cancer patient cohort were 64.0(55.0–73.0)and 64.0(54.0–73.5),respectively(P=0.909).Cancer survivors reported a higher incidence of symptom onset than non-cancer patients.Fever(80.3%vs.65.0%;P=0.026)was the most prevalent symptom,followed by cough(65.6%vs.37.7%;P<0.001),myalgia,and fatigue(45.9%vs.13.6%;P<0.001).The risks of the development of severe events(adjusted hazard ratio[AHR]=1.25;95%confidence interval[CI]:0.76–2.06;P=0.378)and mortality(relative risk[RR]=0.90,95%CI:0.79–1.04;P=0.416)in the cancer survivor cohort were comparable to those of the matched non-cancer patient cohort.However,the cancer survivor cohort showed a higher incidence of secondary infection(52.5%vs.30.1%;RR=1.47,95%CI:1.11–1.95;P=0.002)and a prolonged viral RNA shedding duration(32 days[IQR 26.0–46.0]vs.24.0 days[IQR 18.0–33.0];AHR=0.54;95%CI:0.38–0.80;P<0.05).Conclusion Compared to non-cancer patients,cancer survivors with COVID-19 exhibited a higher incidence of secondary infection,a prolonged period of viral shedding,but comparable risks of the development of severe events and mortality.It is helpful for clinicians to take tailored measures to treat cancer survivors with COVID-19.Hui Peng Sheng Wang Qi Mei Yuhong Dai Jian Li Ming Li Kathrin Halfter Xueyan Jiang Qin Huang Lei Wang Wei Wei Ru Liu Zhen cao Motuma Yigezu Daba Fangfang Wang Bingqing Zhou Hong Qiu Xianglin Yuan 2020Oncology and Translational Medicine2020,6,6:1

15Targeted therapy of gastric cancer:current and prospective strategies显示文摘Gastric cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Surgery is currently the only curative treatment strategy. Chemotherapy has shown limited efficacy in advanced gastric cancer patients with a median overall survival of less than one year. Thus, new treatments are urgently needed. Trastuzumab and Ramucirumab are the only targeted therapies approved currently. Most Phase Ⅲ clinical trials evaluating targeted drugs in gastric cancer have failed. 18Recurrent ascites due to spontaneous intraperitoneal bladder rupture after pelvic radiation therapy for cervical cancer显示文摘Radiation cystitis is one of the major complications following radiotherapy for cervical cancer. However, spontaneous intraperitoneal bladder rupture as a result of radiation cystitis following radiotherapy for cervical cancer is extremely rare. Case presentation: We report a 52-year-old patient who received radiation therapy for cervical cancer 15 years prior to presentation. Eight years prior to presentation, she developed recurrent abdominal distension, oliguria, and ascites. Following ascites drainage and supportive treatment, all symptoms were relieved. However, all symptoms subsequently recurred every few months. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy twice. The first exploratory laparotomy in July 2015 found no specific abnormalities. The second exploratory laparotomy in November 2016 found an intraperitoneal bladder rupture, and the patient underwent surgical repair. The ascites subsequently resolved. Conclusion: The occurrence of spontaneous intraperitoneal bladder rupture after radiation therapy for cervical cancer is rare.
