Long-term changes in the fishery ecosystem structure of Laizhou Bay,China显示文摘Laizhou Bay provides a critical spawning and nursery habitat for many fishery species, including commercially important species, such as Fenneropenaeus chinensis and Larimichthys polyactis. The bay is severely stressed due to high fishing pressure and environmental changes.Based on the long-term ecosystem surveys in Laizhou Bay during the main spawning period(May) of most fishery species from 1959 to 2008,the responses of the Laizhou Bay fishery ecosystem were analyzed here, including regime shifts in species composition, biomass, species diversity, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and environmental variables. The dominant species of large-size and high economic value(e.g.Trichiurus haumela,L.polyactis) have been replaced by the short-lived,low-trophic-level planktivorous pelagic species(e.g.Setipinna taty,Engraulis japonicus) since the 1980s,and it is probable that the small-sized pelagic fishes have been recently replaced by invertebrates(e.g.Oratosquilla oratoria,Crangon affinis). The biomass of fishery resources declined continuously from 423.6 kg haul?1 h?1 in 1959 to 164.6 kg haul?1 h?1 in 1982,37.7 kg haul?1 h?1 in 1993,and less than 8 kg haul?1 h?1 in 1998-2008.Moreover,the biomass of zooplankton showed an increasing trend during 1959-2006,but showed a slight decline in 2008.The abundance of phytoplankton increased from 1959 through 1982,decreased substantially in 1993,and increased again until 2004.More recently, however, the phytoplankton abundance was very low.The sea surface temperature(SST) and sea bottom temperature(SBT) in May increased by 0.23°C a?1 and 0.16°C a?1,respectively,during 1982-2008.The salinity in May showed large fluctuations and reached its lowest values in 2004 and 2006.The ratio of dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) to dissolved inorganic phosphate(DIP) increased. However, the dissolved silicon(DSi):DIP and DSi:DIN ratios decreased to a low level during 1959-2008.These changes seriously impacted primary production, and cascade effects then changed the structure and function of the fishery ecosystem.Further analysis indicated that multiple stresses caused the alterations in the structure of the Laizhou Bay fishery ecosystem. The top-down effect was identified as the main influence on the fishery species(at the top of the food chain) over the past five decades due to the increasing fishing pressure, whereas the bottom-up effect increased over the past three decades due to the strong variations in the environment. | JIN XianShi SHAN XiuJuan LI XianSen WANG Jun CUI Yi ZUO Tao | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,3: | 31
Genetic diversity analysis of spawner and recaptured populations of Chinese shrimp(Fenneropenaeus chinensis)during stock enhancement in the Bohai Bay based on an SSR marker显示文摘Eight microsatellite markers were used to analyze genetic diversity, level of inbreeding, and effective population size of spawner and recaptured populations of Chinese shrimp(Fenneropenaeus chinensis) during stock enhancement in the Bohai Bay in 2013. A total of 254 and 238 alleles were identified in the spawner and recaptured populations, respectively, and the numbers of alleles(N_a) were 8–63 and 6–60, respectively. The numbers of effective alleles(N_e) were 2.52–21.60 and 2.67–20.72, respectively. The polymorphism information content ranged from 0.529 to 0.952. The observed heterozygosity(H_o) values(0.638–0.910 and 0.712–0.927) were lower than the expected heterozygosity(H_e) values(0.603–0.954 and 0.625–0.952), which indicated that the two populations possessed a rich genetic diversity. In 16 tests(2 populations×8 loci), 13 tests deviated from the HardyWeinberg equilibrium. F_(is) values were positive at seven loci and the inbreeding coefficients(F) of the two populations estimated by trio ML were 13.234% and 11.603%, suggesting that there was a relatively high degree of inbreeding. A certain level of inbreeding depression had occurred in the Chinese shrimp population. F_(st) values ranged from 0 to 0.059, with a mean of 0.028, displaying a low level of genetic differentiation in the two populations. Effective population sizes(3 060.2 and 3 842.8) were higher than the minimum number suggested for retaining the evolutionary potential to adapt to new environmental conditions. For enhancement activity in 2014,the ideal number of captured shrimp spawners should have ranged from 7 686 to 19 214 to maintain genetic diversity and effective population size. Further strategies to adjust the balance of economic cost, fishing effort and ideal number of shrimp spawners to maintain a satisfactory effective population size for ensuring the sustainability of Chinese shrimp are proposed. | WANG Mosang WANG Weiji XIAO Guangxia LIU Kefeng HU Yulong TIAN Tao KONG Jie JIN Xianshi | 2016 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2016,35,8: | 11
A comparative study of spatial interpolation methods fordetermining fishery resources density in the Yellow Sea显示文摘Spatial interpolation is a common tool used in the study of fishery ecology, especially for the construction of ecosystem models. To develop an appropriate interpolation method of determining fishery resources density in the Yellow Sea, we tested four frequently used methods, including inverse distance weighted interpolation(IDW), global polynomial interpolation(GPI), local polynomial interpolation(LPI) and ordinary kriging(OK).A cross-validation diagnostic was used to analyze the efficacy of interpolation, and a visual examination was conducted to evaluate the spatial performance of the different methods. The results showed that the original data were not normally distributed. A log transformation was then used to make the data fit a normal distribution. During four survey periods, an exponential model was shown to be the best semivariogram model in August and October 2014, while data from January and May 2015 exhibited the pure nugget effect.Using a paired-samples t test, no significant differences(P>0.05) between predicted and observed data were found in all four of the interpolation methods during the four survey periods. Results of the cross-validation diagnostic demonstrated that OK performed the best in August 2014, while IDW performed better during the other three survey periods. The GPI and LPI methods had relatively poor interpolation results compared to IDW and OK. With respect to the spatial distribution, OK was balanced and was not as disconnected as IDW nor as overly smooth as GPI and LPI, although OK still produced a few 'bull's-eye' patterns in some areas. However, the degree of autocorrelation sometimes limits the application of OK. Thus, OK is highly recommended if data are spatially autocorrelated. With respect to feasibility and accuracy, we recommend IDW to be used as a routine interpolation method. IDW is more accurate than GPI and LPI and has a combination of desirable properties, such as easy accessibility and rapid processing. | CHEN Yunlong SHAN Xiujuan JIN Xianshi YANG Tao DAI Fangqun YANG Dingtian | 2016 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2016,35,12: | 7
Cascade effects of crop species richness on the diversity of pest insects and their natural enemies显示文摘Understanding how plant species richness influences the diversity of herbivorous and predatory/parasitic arthropods is central to community ecology. We explore the effects of crop species richness on the diversity of pest insects and their natural enemies.Using data from a four-year experiment with five levels of crop species richness,we found that crop species richness significantly affected the pest species richness, but there were no significant effects on richness of the pests’natural enemies. In contrast, the species richness of pest insects significantly affected their natural enemies. These findings suggest a cascade effect where trophic interactions are strong between adjacent trophic levels, while the interactions between connected but nonadjacent trophic levels are weakened by the intermediate trophic level.High crop species richness resulted in a more stable arthropod community compared with communities in monoculture crops. Our results highlight the complicated cross-trophic interactions and the crucial role of crop diversity in the food webs of agro-ecosystems. | SHI PeiJian HUI Cang MEN XingYuan ZHAO ZiHua OUYANG Fang GE Feng JIN XianShi CAO HaiFeng LI B.Larry | 2014 | Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,7: | 6
Taxonomic diversity of fish assemblages in the Changjiang Estuary and its adjacent waters显示文摘Taxonomic diversity of fish assemblages in the Changjiang Estuary(Yangtze River Estuary) and its adjacent waters was analyzed based on bottom trawl surveys carried out by R/V Beidou in June,August and October 2006.Four groups of fishes were identified for each survey by the twoway indicator species analysis(TWIA).Taxonomic distinctness, species richness and phylogenetic diversity were used to detect changes in taxonomic structure of fish assemblages. Most dominant fish species mainly belonged to Perciformes,Pleuronectiformes,Clupeiformes,Scorpaeniformes and Tetraodontiformes.Species richness in offshore waters of the survey area was higher than that in the other area. The average taxonomic distinctness value(AvTD,△+ ) of each fish assemblage was close to the average taxonomic distinctness of master list in the Changjiang Estuary(79.9),and had a positive correlation with species richness and Shannon diversity index(H ).A negative correlation was found between variations in taxonomic distinctness(VarTD,Λ + ) and traditional diversity indices, which were caused by fish species component that led to longer average path lengths among species.Taxonomic diversity index(△) had the similar results with species richness,H ,Simpson diversity index(D) and Pielou's evenness index(J ).VarTD also kept stable, which further certificated that fish assemblages and ecological environment were in equilibrium.Taxonomic distinctness index(△* ) was relatively stable in most of fish assemblages, and had higher values in some fish assemblages for a few absolutely dominant species. The present study showed that fish community formed new equilibrium stability in 2006 in the Changjiang Estuary when compared with those in the corresponding months of annual survey from 1985 to 1986.And AvTD in each sampling station was lower than AvTD of master list in the Changjiang Estuary,so some ecological niches were absent in each sampling stations from taxonomic or phylogenetic relationships, these would be helpful to stock natural resource and maintain ecological equilibruim of fish assemblages. | SHAN Xiujuan JIN Xianshi YUAN Wei | 2010 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2010,29,2: | 6
Biological responses of small yellow croaker(Larimichthys polyactis) to multiple stressors: a case study in the Yellow Sea, China显示文摘Temporal changes in biological characteristics of small yellow croaker Larimichthys polyactis in the Yellow Sea were examined for the period of 1960–2008. The body size and age of small yellow croaker decreased substantially, in particular, average length of fish in 2008 was reduced by ~85% than those occurring in 1985, and at that time ~93% of the total catch was dominated by one-year-old individuals. Correspondingly, growth parameters also varied significantly over the years, i.e., k(growth coefficient) and t_0(zero-length age) gradually increased from 0.26 and –0.58 year in 1960 to 0.56 and –0.25 year in 2008, respectively. Although, L∞(body length)sharply decreased from 34.21 cm in 1960 to 24.06 cm in 2008, and t_r(inflexion age) decreased from 3.78 year in1960 to 1.61 year in 2008. There was a great increase both in natural mortality coefficient and fishing mortality coefficient. However, according to the gray correlation analysis, changes in the biological characteristics of small yellow croaker were induced by different stressors ranked as: fishing vessel power>feeding grade>sea surface temperature. This study suggests that the active fishery management measures for biological characters of fish populations should be considered. | SHAN Xiujuan LI Xiansen YANG Tao SHARIFUZZAMAN S M ZHANG Guozheng JIN Xianshi DAI Fangqun | 2017 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,10: | 5
Stable isotopic composition of otoliths in identification of stock structure of small yellow croaker(Larimichthys polyactis) in China显示文摘Oxygen and carbon isotope ratios(δ^(18)O and δ^(13)C) in otoliths were used to identify the stock structure of small yellow croaker,Larimichthys polyactis.Otoliths were collected from fish at five locations across the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea representing most of their distributional range and fisheries areas. The significant differences in the isotopic signatures showed that the five locations could be chemically distinguished and clearly separated, indicating stock subdivision.Correlation of δ^(18)O and δ^(13)C values suggested that population of L.polyactis could be divided into the Bohai Sea group, the southern Yellow Sea group and the central Yellow Sea group.Discriminant analysis of δ^(18)O and δ^(13)C values demonstrated a high significant difference with 85.7% classification accuracy. The spatial separation of L.polyactis indicated a complex stock structure across the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea.These results indicate that optimal fisheries management may require a comprehensive consideration on the current spatial arrangements. This study has provided further evidence that measurement of the stable isotopes ratios in otolith can be a valuable tool in the delineation of fishery management units. | WANG Yukun HUANG Jiansheng TANG Xuexi JIN Xianshi SUN Yao | 2016 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2016,35,6: | 5
Monthly Variation in Crustacean Assemblage(Decapod and Stomatopod) and Its Relationships with Environmental Variables in Laizhou Bay,China显示文摘In this study,we investigated the community structure of crustaceans(decapod and stomatopod) inhabiting the sandy mud bottoms of Laizhou Bay(northeastern China) monthly from May 2011 to April 2012.Investigation was stopped from December 2011 to February 2012 because of the extreme weather and sea ice.A total of 205,057 specimens belonging to 31 species(shrimp,15;crab,15;and stomatopod,1) were collected in 148 hauls. From 2011 to 2012,Oratosquilla oratoria was the dominant biomass species(47.80%),followed by Charybdis japonica(15.49%),Alpheus japonicas(12.61%),Portunus trituberculatus(6.46%),and Crangon spp.(4.19%).Crangon spp.was the most dominant species by individual(32.55%).O.oratoria was the most-frequently encountered species(81.76%),followed by Palaemon gravieri(70.95%),C.japonica(65.54%),A.japonicas(62.16%),and P.trituberculatus(54.73%).The biomass density increased from August to September 2011 and decreased from March 2012 to April 2012.The dynamics of the ecological indices evolve in a similar manner, with high values of diversity and evenness and rich species from May to June 2011 and low values from September to October 2011.O.oratoria,C.japonica,and P.trituberculatus differed by biomass data between groups I(samples obtained from September to October 2011) and II(samples in other months). These species contributed more than 70% to the similarity of the crustacean community structure.Furthermore, the subsets of environmental variables that best matched the crustacean-assemblage structure were as follows:water depth(WD) in summer(June to August);sea surface temperature(SST),dissolved oxygen(DO),and WD in autumn(September to November);and DO,salinity, and WD in spring(March to May). The calculated correlation coefficients and significance level were higher in the period of July to August 2011 than in other months.Comparing 2011 to 2012 with 1982 to 1983,the species composition remained stable. However, the dominant species changed significantly.High value and large species, such as F.chinensis,P.trituberculatus,and T.curvirostris, have been replaced by low value and small species(i.e.,Crangon spp.,P.gravieri,and C.japonica). | WU Qiang WANG Jun ZHANG Bo CHEN Ruisheng JIN Xianshi | 2016 | Journal of Ocean University of China2016,15,2: | 4
Using SSR Marker to Trace Chinese Shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis Released in Natural Sea-A Feasible Strategy for Assessment of Release Effect in Natural Resources Recovery Program显示文摘Enhancement release has been proven effective in natural resources recovery of Chinese shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis in the last several decades in China, however, to assess the effectiveness of enhancement release, we still need to develop a high-efficient and easy-operational method to replace those physical-tagging release method with labor intensive, size-and number-limited. In the present study, single(with maternal known) parentage identification using eight simple sequence repeat(SSR) markers genotype fingerprint was used to trace Chinese shrimp released in Bohai Bay in 2013. A total of 884 shrimp spawners were collected from two hatcheries in Tianjin City respectively after enhancement release of shrimp larvae in May 2013. A total of 844 shrimp samples were recaptured around the release location approximately 4 months after the shrimp larvae were released into the natural sea. Genotype data of 8 SSR loci of the 1,726 samples were used for maternal-offspring parentage identification using CEervus 3.0 software. The allele number in each locus ranged from 8 to 68 with an average value of 33.25, which produced the cumulative exclusion probability with one parent known of all these sight loci up to 99%. Among the 844 recaptured shrimp samples, 448(♂:♀=212:232, gender information was lost for 4 samples) were successfully traced to their 337 maternal parents using a logarithm of odds(LOD) > 3.0 threshold. Among these 337 maternal parents, 253 had a single offspring, 62 had two offspring, 18 had three offspring, 3 had four offspring, and 1 had five offspring. For the first time, a large number of released shrimp were identified from recapture samples, and this study showed that it is possible to trace all released Chinese shrimp without using any type of physical tag in enhancement release activities. This not only means more precise recapture ratio assessment than ever expected, but also this method demonstrates an effective method for large-scale hatchery release as well as for organisms used in hatchery enhancement which are not suitable for physical tagging. | WANG Weiji WANG Mosang XIAO Guangxia HU Yulong SONG Wenping KONG Jie JIN Xianshi | 2018 | 渔业科学进展2018,39,1: | 3
Decadal variations in the community status of economically important invertebrates in the Bohai Sea显示文摘With the decline of fish stocks, the proportions of economically important invertebrates like crustaceans and cephalopods have increased in the Bohai Sea.The community structure and trophic level of economically important invertebrates were analyzed using the bottom trawl survey data collected by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute in the Bohai Sea in May and August of 1958–1959,1982,1992–1993,2004,2009 and 2015.A total of 37 species of economically important invertebrates, belonging to 5 orders,24 families, were captured. The biomass densities of economically important invertebrates in the Bohai Sea displayed an overall downward trend from 1982 to 2015.Oratosquilla oratoria and Loligo spp.were the most dominant species in the past 30 years, the biomass proportion of O.oratoria increased gradually in both May and August from 1982 to 2015.Moreover,biodiversity indices of economically important invertebrates in the Bohai Sea appeared to decline from 1982 to 2004 and then increased in 2015.Similarly,the mean trophic level of economically important invertebrates declined from 1982 to 2004 and increased slightly in 2015.Overall,although the proportions of invertebrates have increased, the biomass densities in the Bohai Sea have displayed an overall downward trend from 1982 to 2015.The increases in the biodiversity and trophic level of economically important invertebrates after the 2000s,possibly benefit from stock enhancement projects implemented by governments at different levels and national fishery management measures such as the“double-control”of the total number and engine power of fishing vessels and summer moratorium of fishing. | Qiang Wu Lisha Guan Zhongyi Li Xiujuan Shan Xianshi Jin | 2019 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,10: | 3
Spatial and temporal characteristics of trophic structure of the southern Huanghai Sea fish communities显示文摘The spatial and temporal characteristics of trophic structure of fish communities in the southern Huanghai Sea were examined based on the data sampled from bottom trawl surveys conducted during the autumn of 2000 and the spring of 2001.Hierarchical agglomerative cluster method and bootstrap randomization were used to identify significant trophic groups for each fish assemblage in the southern Huanghai Sea.A total of six major trophic groups were identified within this system, which classified predators based upon location in the water column or prey size(i.e.,benthic to pelagic predators or fish to small invertebrate prey predators). The similarity level used to identify significant trophic groups in each assemblage ranged from 24% to 34%.Although planktivores were the dominant trophic group in each assemblage(60%~79%),there were spatial and temporal variations in the trophic structure, which reflected the differences in the abundance and availability of dominant preys.Simplified food webs were constructed to evaluate the most important trophic relationships between the dominant prey taxa and the fishes in each assemblage within this system.Although there were some differences in the key prey species among different food webs, pelagic prey items(mainly euphausiids and copepods)represent the most important energetic link between primary producers and higher trophic level predators. The trophic level for most fishes was between 3 and 4,and the weighted mean trophic level for each assemblage ranged from 3.3 to 3.4.Compared with previous study in the mid-1980s,there was an obvious downward trend in the trophic level for most fish species, which resulted mainly from the fluctuation in key prey species in the Huanghai Sea.The decrease in the importance of Japanese anchovy seems to be offset by other abundant prey species such as Euphausia pacifica and copepods(mainly Calanus sinicus). | XUE Ying JIN Xianshi LIANG Zhenlin YE Zhenjiang | 2008 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2008,27,4: | 2
A model for the transportation and distribution of jellyfish Rhopilema esculentum for stock enhancement in the Liaodong Bay, China显示文摘A numerical model for jellyfish Rhopilema esculentum stock enhancement is developed for the first time. The model is based on an operational ocean circulation-surface wave coupled forecasting system for the seas off China and adjacent areas and uses a Lagrangian particle-tracking scheme to track the trajectories of released jellyfish. The Jellyfish are modeled as particles with diel vertical migration and are passively drifted by the current and dispersion due to the sub-grid processes. A comparison between the simulation and survey results demonstrate that the model can capture the primary distribution patterns of the released jellyfish. The model results show that the ocean current and indirect wind impact are the main drivers controlling the jellyfish transport. A connectivity matrix between the release sites and fishing grounds indicates the top of the bay is better than the eastern and western coasts for jellyfish fishing. The matrix also shows that only 45% and 27% of the jellyfish released from Wafangdian(WFD) can enter the fishing ground in 2008 and 2010; thus, the site near WFD is not an advisable location for jellyfish release. A Lagrangian probability density function based on a nine-year tracing experiment validates the results and further provides a 'climatology' distribution of the released jellyfish.Several experiments are conducted to examine the sensitivity of the model to random walk schemes and to release conditions. The model requires a random walk but is insensitive to the random walk scheme. The experiments with different habitat depths show that if the jellyfish are fixed on the bottom of the water, most of them will be transported to the center, or even out of the bay, by the bottom circulation. | Liping Yin Xiujuan Shan Chang Zhao Xianshi Jin Guansuo Wang Fangli Qiao | 2019 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,1: | 2

A Comparative Study of Fish Community in Four Main Estuaries of China Southeastern Coastal Areas and Their Adjacent Waters显示文摘Based on literature and survery data of fish composition collected by bottom trawl investigation from 2006 to 2007 infour main estuaries of China southeastern coastal areas and their adjacent waters, changes of the taxonomic diversity across spatialand temporal scales of fish community were analyzed by taxonomic diversity indices. The results are as follows:a total number of1397 fish species(including some freshwater species),belonging to 2 classes,42 orders,186 families and 593 genera, were collected inthe studied sea areas. The species richness increased with lower latitudes, particularly so with Perciformes. There were 339 fish spe-cies in the Yangtze River Estuary and adjacent waters, belonging to 2 classes,31 orders,101 families and 231 genera. There were 535fish species in the Minjiang River Estuary and adjacent waters, belonging to 2 classes,33 orders,133 families and 323 genera.A totalnumber of 803 fish species were collected in the Jiulongjiang River Estuary and adjacent waters, which belonged to 2 classes,35 orders,155 families and 419 genera. And 1021 fish species which belonged to 2 classes,32 orders,153 families, and 466 genera were collectedin the Pearl River Estuary and adjacent waters. The numbers of orders and families of fish species from the northern to the southern wa-ters first increased and then decreased. The average variation in taxonomic distinctness(Λ+)gradually decreased with lower latitudes inthe four estuaries and adjacent waters. There were no significant differences in the average taxonomic distinctness(△+)among the fourestuaries and adjacent waters, and fish fauna were closely related with each other, and all of them belonged to the same zoogeographicalfauna(Indian-Malaysia fauna).Fish composition in the Minjiang River Estuary and adjacent waters was more similar to that in the Jiu-longjiang River Estuary and adjacent waters among the four estuaries.Compared with the historical data, the average taxonomic dis-tinctness of fish community showed a great decrease in the Minjiang River Estuary and the Jiulongjiang River Estuary and their adjacentwaters. | HUANG Liangmin ZHANG Yazhi JIN Xianshi SHAN Xiujuan | 2010 | Journal of Ocean University of China2010,9,2: | 1
Effects of latitude gradient and seasonal variation on the community structure and biodiversity of commercially important crustaceans in the Yellow Sea and the northern East China Sea显示文摘To evaluate the spatio-temporal variations in the community structure and biodiversity of commercially important crustaceans in the Yellow Sea and the northern East China Sea(NECS),the seasonal and regional changes in species composition, biomass structure, biodiversity and distribution of commercially important species were analyzed using bottom trawl survey data during 2014-2015.The results showed that the latitudinal gradient was obvious in species richness, dominant species and biodiversity. The indices of biodiversity increased with the decreasing latitude. When the sampling sites shifted south by one latitudinal degree,Margalefs richness index(D),Pielou's evenness index(J')and Shannon-Wiener diversity index(H')increased by 0.10.0.03 and 0.09,respectively.The biomass proportion of the cold-temperate species represented by Crangon affinis declined with the decreasing latitude, and the warm-temperate species represented by Ovalipes punctatus and Portunus trituberculatus in creased.Because of the growth regulatio n of crustaceans and the fishing moratorium, the biomass of commercially important crustaceans in the Yellow Sea and NECS was highest in October and August, respectively.Salinity had a more significant influence on H'of commercially important crustaceans than other environmental factors(including zooplankton density, sea bottom temperature and water depth).Overall, the results of this study contribute to a better understanding of community dynamics of crustaceans in the Yellow Sea and NECS,and provide evidence to verify the latitudinal gradient theory in biodiversity. | Qiang Wu Xiujuan Shan Xianshi Jin Yue Jin Fangqun Dai Yongqiang Shi Lisha Guan Tao Zuo Jianqiang Sun | 2020 | Marine Life Science & Technology2020,2,2: | 0
Long-term and monthly changes in abundance, size composition and spatial distribution of the mantis shrimp Oratosquilla oratoriainthe BohaiSea显示文摘With the decline in fish resources worldwide, the ecological dominance and economic importance of crustaceans have obviously increased.Among crustacean species, mantis shrimps are increasingly dominant in many coastal waters of the world. In China,Oratosquilla oratoria is the most widely distributed and productive species of mantis shrimp, and its relative resource density is the highest in the Bohai Sea.In this study,we analysed the long-term and monthly population characteristics of O.oratoria in the Bohai Sea,including its relative resource density, body size and spatial distribution. The results showed that the relative resource density of O.oratoria in the Bohai Sea increased from 3.59 kg/h in 1982 to 14.48 kg/h in 2018,and the percentage of this species that serves as a fishery resource increased from 4.22%in 1982 to 35.27%in 2018,based on the mean relative resource density in May and August. The relative resource density of O.oratoria in the fishing moratorium season from May to August was significantly higher than that in the other months of fishing season, and the relative resource density decreased rapidly after the fishing moratorium ended. The relative resource density of O.oratoria was the highest in summer(August),followed by in autumn(October)and spring(May),and it was the lowest in winter(January). The relative resource density of O.oratoria in the western Bohai Sea was higher than that in the eastern Bohai Sea.The mean body weight of O.oratoria in the Bohai Sea decreased from 21.95 g in 1982 to 14.34 g in 2018,based on the mean body weight in May and August. The body size of O.oratoria in the fishing moratorium season was significantly higher than that in the fishing season, and the body size decreased rapidly after the fishing moratorium ended.Overall,in the context of declining resources of most fishery species, the relative resource density of O.oratoria increased due to its hardiness and adaptability, and its body size decreased under intensive fishing over the past 30 years. The fishing moratorium system had a great influence on the population dynamics of O.oratoria in terms of the relative resource density and body size in the Bohai Sea. | Qiang Wu Qingpeng Han Yue Jin Tao Yang Zhongyi Li Xiujuan Shan Xianshi Jin | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,12: | 0
Ecological footprint and vulnerability of marine capture fisheries in China显示文摘China(herein referred as China’s mainland, and excluding Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan)ranks as the world’s leading fishing nation, with approximately 11.1 million tons of domestic marine catch acquired in 2017.Marine fisheries resources in China are mainly exploited by its 11 coastal provinces and municipalities, and the development of fishing industry varies among them. However, few studies have examined the exploitation history of the 11 coastal provinces and municipalities. In this paper,we systematically quantified the exploitation history of marine fishery resources in China and then measured the vulnerability of the 11 coastal provinces and municipalities of China to a reduction in marine catches. Our analysis suggested that Chinese marine fisheries experienced rapid growth from the mid-1980 s to the end of the 20 th century, and this rapid increase in marine catches were mainly promoted by increased fishing effort. The total primary production required level amounted to approximately 80%of the average primary productivity in 2017,and Zhejiang,Fujian,Shandong,Hainan and Guangdong provinces were the main fishing provinces in China.By assessing three dimensions of vulnerability(exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity)to the impacts of a reduction in marine catches in the 11 coastal provinces and municipalities,we found that Hainan,Guangxi,Zhejiang and Fujian provinces had high or very high vulnerability, while the municipalities of Shanghai and Tianjin had low vulnerability.Identifying suitable adaptation policies and management plans based on the differences in vulnerability among coastal provinces is important in sustainable fisheries management. | Qi Ding Xiujuan Shan Xianshi Jin | 2020 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,4: | 0
Ensemble habitat suitability modeling of stomatopods with Oratosquilla oratoria as an example显示文摘Stomatopods are better known as mantis shrimp with considerable ecological importance in wide coastal waters globally. Some stomatopod species are exploited commercially, including Oratosquilla oratoria in the Northwest Pacific. Yet, few studies have published to promote accurate habitat identification of stomatopods, obstructing scientific management and conservation of these valuable organisms. This study provides an ensemble modeling framework for habitat suitability modeling of stomatopods, utilizing the O. oratoria stock in the Bohai Sea as an example. Two modeling techniques(i.e., generalized additive model(GAM) and geographical weighted regression(GWR)) were applied to select environmental predictors(especially the selection between two types of sediment metrics) that better characterize O. oratoria distribution and build separate habitat suitability models(HSM). The performance of the individual HSMs were compared on interpolation accuracy and transferability. Then, they were integrated to check whether the ensemble model outperforms either individual model, according to fishers’ knowledge and scientific survey data. As a result, grain-size metrics of sediment outperformed sediment content metrics in modeling O. oratoria habitat, possibly because grain-size metrics not only reflect the effect of substrates on burrow development, but also link to sediment heat capacity which influences individual thermoregulation. Moreover, the GWR-based HSM outperformed the GAM-based HSM in interpolation accuracy, while the latter one displayed better transferability. On balance, the ensemble HSM appeared to improve the predictive performance overall, as it could avoid dependence on a single model type and successfully identified fisher-recognized and survey-indicated suitable habitats in either sparsely sampled or well investigated areas. | Lisha Guan Xianshi Jin Tao Yang Xiujuan Shan | 2023 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2023,42,4: | 0
Estimating seasonal habitat suitability for migratory species in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea:A case study of Tanaka's snailfish(Liparis tanakae)显示文摘Acquiring a comprehensive and accurate understanding of habitat preference is essential for species conservation and fishery management, especially for mobile species that migrate seasonally.Presence and absence data from field surveys are recommended when available due to their high reliability.Using field survey data,we investigated seasonal habitat suitability requirements for Tanaka's snailfish(Liparis tanakae)in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea(BSYS)via a machine-learning method, random forests(RFs).Five environmental and biologically relevant variables(bottom temperature, bottom salinity, current velocity, depth and distance to shore)were used to build the ecological niches between the presence/absence data and suitable habitat. In addition, the degree to which false absence data might impact model performance was evaluated. Our results indicated that RFs provided accurate predictions, with seasonal habitat suitability maps of L.tanakae differing substantially.Bottom temperature and salinity were identified as important factors influencing the distribution of L.tanakae.False absence data were found to have negative effects on model performance and the decrease in evaluation metrics was usually significant(P<0.05)after 30%or more errors were added to the absence data.Through identifying highly suitable areas within its geographic range, our study provides a baseline for L.tanakae that can be further applied in ecosystem modelling and fishery management in the BSYS. | Yunlong Chen Xiujuan Shan Dingyong Zeng Harry Gorfine Yinfeng Xu Qiang Wu Tao Yang Xianshi Jin | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,6: | 0
Parent-offspring relationship recognition based on SSR and mtDNA confirmed resource supplement effect of Fenneropenaeus chinensis release显示文摘The resource of Fenneropenaeus chinensis has declined sharply due to excessive fishing intensity, ecological changes and diseases. In order to supplement the fishing yield and restore resources of F.chinensis, the relevant authorities have carried out the activities of stock enhancement and releasing. It can increase biomass and recover resources. However, compared with increasing biomass, there were still few reports on its effect on the recovery of resources.Resource recovery is a process related to whether the released individuals can form a reproductive population.Up to now, there has been a lack of evidence whether the released F.chinensis can complete the entire life history, and form reproduction population. In this study, gravid female shrimp after spawning migration were captured from coastal waters of Haiyang,Qingdao, and Yellow Sea.After identifying parentage relationships using simple sequence repeat(SSR)and mtDNA haplotype,it was finally confirmed that there were eight released individuals in the recapture samples. It was confirmed for the first time that at least part of the released F.chinensis can complete overwintering and reproductive migration, and maintain the migration habits as their wild counterparts. Therefore,we infered that the released shrimp can reproduce under natural conditions, these F.chinensis can form reproductive populations theoretically if without human intervention. These results indicated that enhancenment and release activities have a positive effect on resource recovery. | Song Sun Ding Lyu Xianshi Jin Xiujuan Shan Weiji Wang | 2024 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2024,43,2: | 0
