2Whole-genome resequencing of Osmanthus fragrans provides insights into flower color evolution显示文摘Osmanthus fragrans is a well-known ornamental plant that has been domesticated in China for 2500 years.More than 160 cultivars have been found during this long period of domestication,and they have subsequently been divided into four cultivar groups,including the Yingui,Jingui,Dangui,and Sijigui groups.These groups provide a set of materials to study genetic evolution and variability.Here,we constructed a reference genome of O.fragrans‘Liuyejingui’in the Jingui group and investigated its floral color traits and domestication history by resequencing a total of 122 samples,including 119 O.fragrans accessions and three other Osmanthus species,at an average sequencing depth of 15×.The population structure analysis showed that these 119 accessions formed an apparent regional cluster.The results of linkage disequilibrium(LD)decay analysis suggested that varieties with orange/red flower color in the Dangui group had undergone more artificial directional selection;these varieties had the highest LD values among the four groups,followed by the Sijigui,Jingui,and Yingui groups.Through a genome-wide association study,we further identified significant quantitative trait loci and genomic regions containing several genes,such as ethylene-responsive transcription factor 2 and Arabidopsis pseudoresponse regulator 2,that are positively associated with petal color.Moreover,we found a frameshift mutation with a 34-bp deletion in the first coding region of the carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase 4 gene.This frameshift mutation existed in at least one site on both alleles in all varieties of the Dangui group.The results from this study shed light on the genetic basis of domestication in woody plants,such as O.fragrans.Hongguo Chen Xiangling Zeng Jie Yang Xuan Cai Yumin Shi Riru Zheng Zhenqi Wang Junyi Liu Xinxin Yi Siwei Xiao Qiang Fu Jingjing Zou Caiyun Wang 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:5

5The East Asian Monsoon since the Last Glacial Maximum:Evidence from geological records in northern China显示文摘The impact of global warming on the climate of northern China has been investigated intensively, and the behavior of the East Asian monsoon during previous intervals of climatic warming may provide insight into future changes. In this study, we use paleovegetation records from loess and lake sediments in the marginal zone of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) to reconstruct the EASM during the interval of warming from the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM) to the Holocene. The results show that during the LGM, desert steppe or dry steppe dominated much of northern China;in addition, the southeastern margin of the deserts east of the Helan Mountains had a distribution similar to that of the present-day, or was located slightly further south, due to the cold and dry climate caused by a strengthened East Asian winter monsoon(EAWM) and weakened EASM. During the last deglaciation, with the strengthening of the EASM and concomitant weakening of the EAWM, northern China gradually became humid. However, this trend was interrupted by abrupt cooling during the Heinrich 1(H1) and Younger Dryas(YD) events. The EASM intensified substantially during the Holocene, and the monsoon rain belt migrated at least 300 km northwestwards, which led to the substantial shrinking of the desert area in the central and eastern part of northern China, and to the large expansion of plants favored by warm and humid conditions. Paleoclimatic records from the marginal zone of the EASM all show that the EASM reached its peak in the mid-Holocene, and past global climatic warming significantly strengthened the EASM, thereby greatly improving the ecological environment in northern China. Thus, northern China is expected to become wetter as global warming continues. 7Paclitaxel-induced stress granules increase LINE-1 mRNA stability to promote drug resistance in breast cancer cells显示文摘Abnormal expression of long interspersed element-1(LINE-1)has been implicated in drug resistance,while our previous study showed that chemotherapy drug paclitaxel(PTX)increased LINE-1 level with unknown mechanism.Bioinformatics analysis suggested the regulation of LINE-1 mRNA by drug-induced stress granules(SGs).This study aimed to explore whether and how SGs are involved in drug-induced LINE-1 increase and thereby promotes drug resistance of triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)cells.We demonstrated that SGs increased LINE-1 expression by recruiting and stabilizing LINE-1 mRNA under drug stress,thereby adapting TNBC cells to chemotherapy drugs.Moreover,LINE-1 inhibitor efavirenz(EFV)could inhibit drug-induced SG to destabilize LINE-1.Our study provides the first evidence of the regulation of LINE-1 by SGs that could be an important survival mechanism for cancer cells exposed to chemotherapy drugs.The findings provide a useful clue for developing new chemotherapeutic strategies against TNBCs.Xiao Shi Xinxin Si Ershao Zhang Ruochen Zang Nan Yang He Cheng Zhihong Zhang Beijing Pan Yujie Sun 2021The Journal of Biomedical Research2021,35,6:1
8Information metasurfaces and intelligent metasurfaces显示文摘Metamaterials and metasurfaces have inspired worldwide interest in the recent two decades due to their extraordinary performance in controlling material parameters and electromagnetic properties.However,most studies on metamaterials and metasurfaces are focused on manipulations of electromagnetic fields and waves,because of their analog natures.The concepts of digital coding and programmable metasurfaces proposed in 2014 have opened a new perspective to characterize and design metasurfaces in a digital way,and made it possible to control electromagnetic fields/waves and process digital information simultaneously,yielding the birth of a new direction of information metasurfaces.On the other hand,artificial intelligence(AI)has become more important in automatic designs of metasurfaces.In this review paper,we first show the intrinsic natures and advantages of information metasurfaces,including information operations,programmable and real-time control capabilities,and space–time-coding strategies.Then we introduce the recent advances in designing metasurfaces using AI technologies,and particularly discuss the close combinations of information metasurfaces and AI to generate intelligent metasurfaces.We present self-adaptively smart metasurfaces,AI-based intelligent imagers,microwave cameras,and programmable AI machines based on optical neural networks.Finally,we indicate the challenges,applications,and future directions of information and intelligent metasurfaces.Qian Ma Che Liu Qiang Xiao Ze Gu Xinxin Gao Lianlin Li Tie Jun Cui 2022Photonics Insights2022,1,1:1

10Circulating exosome-like vesicles of humans with nondiabetic obesity impaired isletβ-cell proliferation,which was associated with decreased Omentin-1 protein cargo显示文摘The regulation ofβ-cell mass in the status of nondiabetic obesity remains not well understood.We aimed to investigate the role of circulating exosome-like vesicles(ELVs)isolated from humans with simple obesity in the regulation of isletβ-cell mass.Between June 2017 and July 2019,81 subjects with simple obesity and 102 healthy volunteers with normal weight were recruited.ELVs were isolated by ultra-centrifugation.The proliferations ofβ-cells and islets were measured by 5-ethynl-2′-deoxyuridine(EdU).Protein components in ELVs were identified by Quantitative Proteomic Analysis and verified by Western blot and ELISA.The role of specific exosomal protein was analyzed by gain-of-function approach in ELVs released by 3T3-L1 preadipocytes.Circulating ELVs from subjects with simple obesity inhibitedβ-cell proliferation in vitro without affecting its apoptosis,secretion,and inflammation.The protein levels of Rictor and Omentin-1 were downregulated in circulating ELVs from subjects with simple obesity and associated with the obesity-linked pathologic conditions.The ELV-carried Omentin-1 and Omentin-1 protein per se were validated to increaseβ-cell proliferation and activate Akt signaling pathway.Moreover,Omentin-1 in ELVs was downregulated by insulin.The circulating ELVs may act as a negative regulator forβ-cell mass in nondiabetic obesity through inhibitingβ-cell proliferation.This effect was associated with downregulated Omentin-1 protein in ELVs.This newly identified ELV-carried protein could be a mediator linking insulin resistance to impairedβ-cell proliferation and a new potential target for increasingβ-cell mass in obesity and T2DM.Qian Ge Xinxin Xie Xiangjun Chen Rongfeng Huang Cheng-Xue Rui Qianna Zhen Renzhi Hu Min Wu Xiaoqiu Xiao Xi Li 2022Genes & Diseases2022,9,4:1

12Efficient control of chronic LCMV infection by a CD4 T cell epitope-based heterologous prime-boost vaccination in a murine model显示文摘CD4^(+)T cells are essential for sustaining CD8^(+)T cell responses during a chronic infection.The adoptive transfer of virus-specific CD4^(+)T cells has been shown to efficiently rescue exhausted CD8^(+)T cells.However,the question of whether endogenous virus-specific CD4^(+)T cell responses can be enhanced by certain vaccination strategies and subsequently reinvigorate exhausted CD8^(+)T cells remains unexplored.In this study,we developed a CD4^(+)T cell epitope-based heterologous prime-boost immunization strategy and examined the efficacy of this strategy using a mouse model of chronic lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus(LCMV)infection.We primed chronically LCMV-infected mice with a Listeria monocytogenes vector that expressed the LCMV glycoprotein-specific I-Ab-restricted CD4^(+)T cell epitope GP61–80(LM-GP61)and subsequently boosted the primed mice with an influenza virus A(PR8 strain)vector that expressed the same CD4^(+)T cell epitope(IAV-GP61).This heterologous prime-boost vaccination strategy elicited strong anti-viral CD4^(+)T cell responses,which further improved both the quantity and quality of the virusspecific CD8^(+)T cells and led to better control of the viral loads.The combination of this strategy and the blockade of the programmed cell death-1(PD-1)inhibitory pathway further enhanced the anti-viral CD8^(+)T cell responses and viral clearance.Thus,a heterologous prime-boost immunization that selectively induces virus-specific CD4^(+)T cell responses in conjunction with blockade of the inhibitory pathway may represent a promising therapeutic approach to treating patients with chronic viral infections.Ran He Xinxin Yang Cheng Liu Xiangyu Chen Lin Wang Minglu Xiao Jianqiang Ye Yuzhang Wu Lilin Ye 2018Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,9:1
13Dry-etched ultrahigh-Q silica microdisk resonators on a silicon chip显示文摘We demonstrate the fabrication of ultrahigh quality(Q) factor silica microdisk resonators on a silicon chip by inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching. We achieve a dry-etched optical microresonator with an intrinsic Q factor as high as 1.94×10^(8) from a 1-mm-diameter silica microdisk with a thickness of 4 μm. 17A Neural Regression Model for Predicting Thermal Conductivity of CNT Nanofluids with Multiple Base Fluids显示文摘High thermal conductivity of carbon nanotube nanofluids(k_(nf))has received great attention.However,the current researches are limited by experimental conditions and lack a comprehensive understanding of k_(nf) variation law.In view of proposition of data-driven methods in recent years,using experimental data to drive prediction is an effective way to obtain k_(nf),which could clarify variation law of k_(nf) and thus greatly save experimental and time costs.This work proposed a neural regression model for predicting k_(nf).It took into account four influencing factors,including carbon nanotube diameter,volume fraction,temperature and base fluid thermal conductivity(k_(f)).Where,four conventional fluids with k_(f),including R113,water,ethylene glycol and ethylene glycol-water mixed liquid were considered as base fluid considers.By training this model,it can predict k_(nf) with different factors.Also,change law of four influencing factors considered on the k_(nf) enhancement has discussed and the correlation between different influencing factors and k_(nf) enhancement is presented.Finally,compared with nine common machine learning methods,the proposed neural regression model shown the highest accuracy among these.ZOU Hanying CHEN Cheng ZHA Muxi ZHOU Kangneng XIAO Ruoxiu FENG Yanhui QIU Lin ZHANG Xinxin WANG Zhiliang 2021Journal of Thermal Science2021,30,6:1
