| 2 | Xiaotan Sanjie decoction attenuates tumor angiogenesis by manipulating Notch-1-regulated proliferation of gastric cancer stem-like cells显示文摘AIM: To determine the underlying mechanisms of action and influence of Xiaotan Sanjie(XTSJ) decoction on gastric cancer stem-like cells(GCSCs). METHODS: The gastric cancer cell line MKN-45 line was selected and sorted by FACS using the cancer stem cell marker CD44; the stemness of these cells was checked in our previous study. In an in vitro study, the expression of Notch-1, Hes1, Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), and Ki-67 in both CD44-positive gastric cancer stem-like cells(GCSCs) and CD44-negative cells was measured by Western blot. The effect of XTSJ serum on cell viability and on the above markers was measured by MTT assay and Western blot, respectively. In an in vivo study, the ability to induce angiogenesis and maintenance of GCSCs in CD44-positive-MKN-45- and CD44-negative-engrafted mice were detected by immunohistochemical staining using markers for CD34 and CD44, respectively. The role of XTSJ decoction in regulating the expression of Notch-1, Hes1, VEGF and Ki-67 was measured by Western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: CD44+ GCSCs showed more cell proliferation and VEGF secretion than CD44-negative cells in vitro, which were accompanied by the high expression of Notch-1 and Hes1 and positively associated with tumor growth(GCSCs vs CD44-negative cells, 2.72 ± 0.25 vs 1.46 ± 0.16, P < 0.05) and microvessel density(MVD)(GCSCs vs CD44-negative cells, 8.15 ± 0.42 vs 3.83 ± 0.49, P < 0.001) in vivo. XTSJ decoction inhibited the viability of both cell types in a dose-dependent manner in vitro. Specifically, a significant difference in the medium-(82.87% ± 6.53%) and high-dose XTSJ groups(77.43% ± 7.34%) was detected at 24 h in the CD44+ GCSCs group compared with the saline group(95.42% ± 5.76%) and the low-dose XTSJ group(90.74% ± 6.57%)(P < 0.05). However, the efficacy of XTSJ decoction was reduced in the CD44- groups; significant differences were only detected in the high-dose XTSJ group at 48 h(78.57% ± 6.94%) and 72 h(72.12% ± 7.68%) when compared with the other CD44- groups(P < 0.05). Notably, these differences were highly consistent with the Notch-1, Hes1, VEGF and Ki-67 expression in these cells. Similarly, in vivo, XTSJ decoction inhibited tumor growth in a dose-dependent manner. A significant difference was observed in the medium(1.76 ± 0.15) and high-dose XTSJ(1.33 ± 0.081) groups compared with the GCSCs control group(2.72 ± 0.25) and the low-dose XTSJ group(2.51 ± 0.25)(P < 0.05). We also detected a remarkable decrease of MVD in the medium-(7.10 ± 0.60) and high-dose XTSJ(5.99 ± 0.47) groups compared with the GCSC control group(8.15 ± 0.42) and the low-dose XTSJ group(8.14 ± 0.46)(P < 0.05). Additionally, CD44 expression was decreased in these groups [medium-(4.43 ± 0.45) and high-dose XTSJ groups(3.56 ± 0.31) vs the GCSC control(5.96 ± 0.46) and low dose XTSJ groups(5.91 ± 0.38)](P < 0.05). | 3 | Itopride therapy for functional dyspepsia:A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the therapeutic effects of itopride vs other drugs(placebo,domperidone,mosapride) for functional dyspepsia(FD).METHODS:Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of itopride for FD were retrieved from databases.Relevant information was extracted and analyzed,using the relative risk(RR) and weighted mean deviation,as appropriate.A random or fixed effect model was used,based on the heterogeneity of the included articles,and visual inspection of funnel plots was used to evaluate publication bias.RESULTS:Nine RCTs enrolling 2620 FD cases were included;1372 cases received itopride treatment and 1248 cases received placebo or other drugs(control groups).Compared with control groups,itopride had superior RR values of 1.11 [95%CI:(1.03,1.19),P = 0.006],1.21 [95%CI:(1.03,1.44),P = 0.02],and1.24 [95%CI:(1.01,1.53),P = 0.04] for global patient assessment,postprandial fullness,and early satiety,respectively.For the Leeds Dyspepsia Questionnaire score,the weighted mean deviation was-1.38 [95%CI:(-1.75,-1.01),P < 0.01].The incidence of adverse effects was similar in the itopride and control groups.The funnel plots for all indicators showed no evidence of publication bias.CONCLUSION:Itopride has good efficacy in terms of global patients assessment,postprandial fullness,and early satiety in the treatment of patients with FD and shows a low rate of adverse reactions.Itopride can greatly improve FD syndromes-score. | Xuan Huang Bin Lv Shuo Zhang Yi-Hong Fan Li-Na Meng | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,48: | 14 |

| 5 | Effects of radix curcumae-derived diterpenoid C on Helicobacter pylori-induced inflammation and nuclear factor kappa B signal pathways显示文摘AIM:To study effect of diterpenoid C extracted from radix curcumae on Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)-infected inflammation,intestinal metaplasia,and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)signaling pathway in vitro.METHODS:We used I-type H.pylori to infect human gastric epithelial gastric epithelium cell line(GES-1)cell lines,and then H.pylori-infected GES-1 cells were treated with radix curcumae(RC)-derived diterpenoid C of different concentrations(5,10,20μg/mL)and amoxicillin.The expression of p65,IκB kinase(IKK)αand IKKγproteins was detected with Western blotting,and the expression of interleukin(IL)-8,IL-6 and IL-4 was determined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method.Data were analyzed using SPSS software ver18.0.For comparisons between groups of more than two unpaired values,one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)was used.If an ANOVA F value was significant,post hoc comparisons were performed between groups.If results were not normally distributed,the Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare two groups of unpaired values,whereas for comparisons between groups of more than two unpaired values,the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used.Statistical significance was established at P<0.05.RESULTS:The MTT assay results revealed the inhibited rate of GES-1,and indicated that the IC5 of RCderived diterpenoid C and amoxicillin all were 5μg/mL for gastric GES-1 cells.The expression of IL-8 was significantly increased,especially at 12 h time point;and the expression of IL-4 was decreased in H.pyloriinfected GES-1 cells.After H.pylori-infected GES-1 cells were treated with RC-derived diterpenoid C of different concentrations and amoxicillin,the expression of IL-8was decreased at 12,24,48,72 h points(P<0.01),especially in high-concentration diterpenoid C(20μg/mL)group;and the expression of IL-4 was increased,especially in moderate and high-concentration diterpenoid C(10 and 20μg/mL)groups.RC-derived diterpenoid C had the inhibitory effects on H.pylori-induced p65 translocation from cytoplasm into cell nucleus,H.pylori-stimulant IkBαdegradation,the phosphorylation of p65 and IkBα,and the expression of IKKαand IKKβproteins.CONCLUSION:RC-derived diterpenoid C can block NF-κB signal pathway,effectively reducing the secretion of H.pylori-induced proinflammatory cytokine and increasing the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokine. | Xuan Huang Bin Lv Shuo Zhang Qun Dai Bing-Bing Chen Li-Na Meng | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,31: | 10 |
| 6 | Optimization of Agrobacterium tumefaciens-Mediated Transformation Systems in Tea Plant(Camellia sinensis)显示文摘In this study, an efficient plant regeneration protocol in vitro and transformation by Agrobacterium-mediated method of Camellia sinensis was achieved, which would lay the foundation for genetic improvement of tea plant by genetic engineering technology. The cotyledon callus of C.sinensis were used as the receptors for transformation by Agrobacterium tumefaciens EHA105 containing PS1aG-3. Some factors which affected the result of Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of C. sinensis were studied on the basis of GUS transient expression system. The optimum system of Agrobacterium-mediated transformation was that the cotyledon callus were pre-cultured for 3 d, and then infected by EHA105 for 15 min followed by 3 d co-culture in the dark on the YEB medium containing 150 μmol·L^(-1) acetosyringone(AS). The transient expression rate of GUS gene was 62.6%. After being delayed selective culture for 3 d, infected callus were transferred into the differentiation medium and the root induction medium both of which were supplemented with 100 mg·L^(-1) spectinomycin, and then resistant seedlings of C. sinensis were obtained. The polymer-to-ceramic transformation and thermal behavior of obtained single-source precursor were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA). The results show that the precursor possesses a high ceramic yield about 85% at 1000 ℃.The phase composition and microstructure of formed ZrC-ZrB_2-SiC ceramics were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction(XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM).Meanwhile, the weight loss and chemical composition of the resultant ZrC-ZrB_2-SiC nanocomposites were investigated after annealing at high temperature up to 1800 ℃. | 9 | Transcriptomic analyses identify albino-associated genes of a novel albino tea germplasm ‘Huabai 1’显示文摘Albinism in shoots of tea plants is a common phenotypic expression which gives the tea infusion a pleasant umami taste.A novel natural albino mutant tea germplasm containing high amino acids content was found and named as‘Huabai 1’.‘Huabai 1’has white jade tender shoots under low temperature and turns green with increased temperature.In order to understand the molecular mechanism of color change in leaf of‘Huabai 1’,transcriptome analysis was performed to identify albino-associated differentially expressed genes(DEGs).A total of 483 DEGs were identified from white shoots of‘Huabai 1’compared to its green shoots.There were 15 DEGs identified to be involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,which account for the majority of characterized DEGs.The metabolites related to phenylpropanoid biosynthesis revealed similar expression pattern of DEGs.Furthermore,metabolic pathways such as ubiquonone,tyrosine,and flavonoid biosynthesis associated with phenylpropanoid biosynthesis could also contribute to the color change in‘Huabai 1’tender shoots.Protein–protein interaction analysis revealed a hub protein NEDD8(CSA009575)which interacted with many regulated genes in spliceosome,nitrogen metabolism,phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,and other pathways.In conclusion,the findings in this study indicate that the color change of‘Huabai 1’tender shoots is a combined effect of phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway and other metabolic pathways including flavonoid biosynthesis in tea plants.Chlorophyll biosynthesis-related genes LHCII and SGR may also play some roles in color change of‘Huabai 1’. | Qingping Ma Huan Li Zhongwei Zou Emmanuel Arkorful Qianru Lv Qiongqiong Zhou Xuan Chen Kang Sun Xinghui Li | 2018 | Horticulture Research2018,5,1: | 7 |

| 11 | Differences in clinical features of Crohn's disease and intestinal tuberculosis显示文摘AIM: To investigate the clinical features of Crohn's disease(CD) and intestinal tuberculosis(ITB) with a scoring system that we have developed.METHODS: A total of 25 CD and 40 ITB patients were prospectively enrolled from August 2011 to July 2012.Their characteristics and clinical features were recorded. Laboratory, endoscopic, histologic and radiographic features were determined. The features with a high specificity were selected to establish a scoring system. The features supporting CD scored +1, and those supporting ITB scored-1; each patient received a final total score. A receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was used to determine the best cut-off value for distinguishing CD from ITB.RESULTS: Based on a high specificity of differentiating between CD and ITB, 12 features, including longitudinal ulcers, nodular hyperplasia, cobblestone-like mucosa, intestinal diseases, intestinal fistula, the target sign, the comb sign, night sweats, the purified protein derivative test, the interferon-γ release assay(T-SPOT.TB), ring ulcers and ulcer scars, were selected for the scoring system. The results showed that the average total score of the CD group was 3.12 ± 1.740, the average total score of the ITB group was-2.58 ± 0.984, the best cutoff value for the ROC curve was-0.5, and the diagnostic area under the curve was 0.997, which was statistically significant(P < 0.001). The patients whose total scores were higher than-0.5 were diagnosed with CD; otherwise, patients were diagnosed with ITB. Overall, the diagnostic accuracy rate and misdiagnosis rate of this scoring system were 97% and 3%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Some clinical features are valuable for CD and ITB diagnosis. | 12 | Xiaotan Tongfu granules contribute to the prevention of stress ulcers显示文摘AIM:To investigate the efficacy and potential mechanism of Xiaotan Tongfu granules(XTTF)in stress ulcers.METHODS:One hundred sixty rats were randomly divided into 4 groups(n=10)as follows:the model group(MP group),the control group(CP group),the ranitidine group(RP group)and the XTTF granule group(XP group).Rats in the MP group received no drugs,rats in the CP group received 0.2 mL of a 0.9%sodium chloride solution via oral gavage,and rats in the RP and XP groups received the same volume of ranitidine(50 mg/kg)or XTTF granule(4.9 g/kg).The cold-restraint stress model was applied to induce stress ulcers after 7 consecutive days of drug administration.Afterwards,rats were sacrificed at 0,3,6 and24 h.Gastric pH was measured by a precise pH meter;gastric emptying rate(GER)was measured by using a methylcellulose test meal;myeloperoxidase activity(MPO),macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF),proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA),and heat shock protein 70(HSP70)were measured by immunohistochemical staining;and mucosal cell apoptosis was measured by transferase dUTP nick end labeling.RESULTS:In the cold-restraint stress model,the development of stress ulcers peaked at 3 h and basically regressed after 24 h.Gastric lesions were significantly different in the RP and XP groups at each time point.Interestingly,although this index was much lower in the RP group than in the XP group immediately following stress induction(7.00±1.10 vs 10.00±1.79,P<0.05.Concerning gastric pH,between the RP and XP groups,we detected a statistically significant difference immediately after stress induction(0 h:4.56±0.47 vs 3.34±0.28,P<0.05)but not at any of the subsequent time points.For GER,compared to the RP group,GER was remarkably elevated in the XP group because a statistically significant difference was detected(3 h:46.84±2.70 vs 61.16±5.12,P<0.05;6 h:60.96±6.71 vs 73.41±6.16,P<0.05;24 h:77.47±3.17 vs 91.31±4.34,P<0.05).With respect to MPO and MIF,comparisons between the RP and XP groups revealed statistically significant differences at 3 h(MPO:18.94±1.20 vs 13.51±0.89,P<0.05;MIF:150.67±9.85 vs 122.17±5.67,P<0.05)and 6 h(MPO:13.22±1.54 vs 8.83±0.65,P<0.05;MIF:135.50±9.46 vs 109.83±6.40,P<0.05).With regard to HSP70,HSP70 expression was significantly increased in the RP and XP groups at 3 and 6 h compared to the MP and CP groups.In addition,comparing the RP and XP groups also showed statistically significant differences at 3 and 6 h.The expression of PCNA was higher in the RP and XP groups 3 h after stress induction.Between these two groups,small but statistically significant differences were observed at all of the time points(3 h:69.50±21.52 vs 79.33±15.68,P<0.05;6 h:107.83±4.40 vs 121.33±5.71,P<0.05;24 h:125.33±5.65 vs 128.50±14.49,P<0.05)except 0 h.With regard to apoptosis,the apoptotic activity in the RP and XP groups was significantly different from that in the MP and CP groups.The XP group exhibited a higher inhibition of cell apoptosis than the RP group at3 h(232.58±24.51 vs 174.46±10.35,P<0.05)and6 h(164.74±18.31 vs 117.71±12.08,P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The Xiaotan Tongfu granule was demonstrated to be similar to ranitidine in preventing stress ulcers.It exhibited multiple underlying mechanisms and deserves further study. | Bing Yan Jun Shi Li-Juan Xiu Xuan Liu Yu-Qi Zhou Shou-Han Feng Can Lv Xiu-Xia Yuan Yin-Cheng Zhang Yong-Jin Li Pin-Kang Wei Zhi-Feng Qin | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,33: | 6 |
| 13 | Role of in-situ formed free carbon on electromagnetic absorption properties of polymer-derived SiC ceramics显示文摘In order to enhance dielectric properties of polymer-derived SiC ceramics,a novel single-source-precursor was synthesized by the reaction of an allylhydrido polycarbosilane(AHPCS)and divinyl benzene(DVB)to form carbon-rich SiC.As expected,the free carbon contents of resultant SiC ceramics annealed at 1600℃are significantly enhanced from 6.62 wt%to 44.67 wt%.After annealing at 900-1600℃,the obtained carbon-rich SiC ceramics undergo phase separation from amorphous to crystalline feature where superfine SiC nanocrystals and turbostratic carbon networks are dispersed in an amorphous SiC(O)matrix.The dielectric properties and electromagnetic(EM)absorption performance of as-synthesized carbon-rich SiC ceramics are significantly improved by increasing the structural order and content of free carbon.For the 1600℃ ceramics mixed with paraffin wax,the minimum reflection coefficient(RCmin)reaches-56.8 dB at 15.2 GHz with the thickness of 1.51 mm and a relatively broad effective bandwidth(the bandwidth of RC values lower than-10 dB)of 4.43 GHz,indicating the excellent EM absorption performance.The carbon-rich SiC ceramics have to be considered as harsh environmental EM absorbers with excellent chemical stability,high temperature,and oxidation and corrosion resistance. | Zhaoju YU Xuan LV Kangwei MAO Yujing YANG Anhua LIU | 2020 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2020,9,5: | 5 |

| 15 | Kinetics and mechanisms of mitotic inheritance of DNA methylation and their roles in aging-associated methylome deterioration显示文摘Mitotic inheritance of the DNA methylome is a challenging task for the maintenance of cell identity.Whether DNA methylation pattern in different genomic contexts can all be faithfully maintained is an open question.A replication-coupled DNA methylation maintenance model was proposed decades ago,but some observations suggest that a replication-uncoupled maintenance mechanism exists.However,the capacity and the underlying molecular events of replication-uncoupled maintenance are unclear.By measuring maintenance kinetics at the single-molecule level and assessing mutant cells with perturbation of various mechanisms,we found that the kinetics of replication-coupled maintenance are governed by the UHRF1–Ligase 1 and PCNA–DNMT1 interactions,whereas nucleosome occupancy and the interaction between UHRF1 and methylated H3K9 specifically regulate replication-uncoupled maintenance.Surprisingly,replication-uncoupled maintenance is sufficiently robust to largely restore the methylome when replication-coupled maintenance is severely impaired.However,solo-WCGW sites and other CpG sites displaying aging-and cancer-associated hypomethylation exhibit low maintenance efficiency,suggesting that although quite robust,mitotic inheritance of methylation is imperfect and that this imperfection may contribute to selective hypomethylation during aging and tumorigenesis. | Xuan Ming Zhuqiang Zhang Zhuoning Zou Cong Lv Qiang Dong Qixiang He Yangyang Yi Yingfeng Li Hailin Wang Bing Zhu | 2020 | Cell Research2020,30,11: | 4 |
| 16 | Effect of Tai Chi and Resistance Training on Cancer-Related Fatigue and Quality of Life in Middle-Aged and Elderly Cancer Patients显示文摘Objective:To study the effect of Tai Chi(TC)and resistance training(RT)with different intensity on the cancer-related fatigue(CRF)and quality of life(QoL)of middle-aged and elderly cancer patients.Methods:Totally 120 cancer patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to 4 groups by a random number table,including TC group,high-intensity 60%one repetition maximum(1-RM)RT group(HIRT),low-intensity(30%1-RM)RT group(LIRT)and control group,30 patients in each group.Participants in the TC group received 24-form simplified Yang-style TC training at a frequency of 40 min per day,3 days per week for 12 weeks.Patients in the two RT groups received 10 sessions,6 designated movements per day,3 days per week for 12 weeks.The 1-RM of 6 muscle groups,fat mass(FM),lean body mass(LBM),along with the scores of Brief Fatigue Inventory(BFI),QoL questionnaire for Chinese cancer patients receiving chemobiotherapy(QLQ-CCC),Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7),Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)were measured before and after training.The adverse effect was also observed.Results:After 12-week intervention,patients in both TC and RT groups showed significant improvements in CRF and QLQ-CCC compared to pre-treatment(P<0.05).Compared with the LIRT and TC groups,patients in the HIRT group improved more significantly in increasing muscle strength and LBM,and reducing in FM(P<0.05).Patients in the TC group significantly increased in lower limb muscle strength compared with the LIRT group(P<0.05).In addition,patients in the TC group showed more significant improvements in scores of GAD-7,PHQ-9 and PSQI than 2 RT groups(P<0.05).Conclusions:TC and RT,both low-and high-intensity training,can significantly increase muscle strength,reduce CRF and improve QoL in the middle-aged and elderly cancer patients.TC has a better effect than RT in terms of sleep quality and mental health.The long-term application is needed to substantiate the effect of TC as an alternative exercise in cancer patients. | CHENG Duan WANG Xuan HU Jie DAI Ling-li LV Ying FENG Hui ZHANG Yan GUO Yan WANG Lei | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,27,4: | 3 |

| 19 | Greenhouse gas emissions from oilfield-produced water in Shengli Oilfield,Eastern China显示文摘Greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions from oil and gas systems are an important component of the GHG emission inventory. To assess the carbon emissions from oilfield-produced water under atmospheric conditions correctly, in situ detection and simulation experiments were developed to study the natural release of GHG into the atmosphere in the Shengli Oilfield,the second largest oilfield in China. The results showed that methane(CH4) and carbon dioxide(CO2) were the primary gases released naturally from the oilfield-produced water.The atmospheric temperature and release time played important roles in determining the CH4 and CO2emissions under atmospheric conditions. Higher temperatures enhanced the carbon emissions. The emissions of both CH4 and CO2from oilfield-produced water were highest at 27°C and lowest at 3°C. The bulk of CH4 and CO2was released from the oilfield-produced water during the first release period, 0–2 hr, for each temperature, with a maximum average emission rate of 0.415 g CH4/(m3·hr) and 3.934 g CO2/(m3·hr), respectively. Then the carbon emissions at other time periods gradually decreased with the extension of time. The higher solubility of CO2 in water than CH4 results in a higher emission rate of CH4 than CO2over the same release duration.
