| 1 | Human induced dryland degradation in Ordos Plateau,China,revealed by multilevel statistical modeling of normalized difference vegetation index and rainfall time-series显示文摘Land degradation causes serious environmental problems in many regions of the world,and although it can be effectively assessed and monitored using a time series of rainfall and a normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)from remotely-sensed imagery,dividing human-induced land degradation from vegetation dynamics due to climate change is not a trivial task.This paper presented a multilevel statistical modeling of the NDVI-rainfall relationship to detect human-induced land degradation at local and landscape scales in the Ordos Plateau of Inner Mongolia,China,and recognized that anthropogenic activities result in either positive(land restoration and re-vegetation)or negative(degradation)trends.Linear regressions were used to assess the accuracy of the multilevel statistical model.The results show that:(1)land restoration was the dominant process in the Ordos Plateau between 1998 and 2012;(2)the effect of the statistical removal of precipitation revealed areas of human-induced land degradation and improvement,the latter reflecting successful restoration projects and changes in land management in many parts of the Ordos;(3)compared to a simple linear regression,multilevel statistical modeling could be used to analyze the relationship between the NDVI and rainfall and improve the accuracy of detecting the effect of human activities.Additional factors should be included when analyzing the NDVI-rainfall relationship and detecting human-induced loss of vegetation cover in drylands to improve the accuracy of the approach and eliminate some observed non-significant residual trends. | Jing ZHANG JianMing NIU Tongliga BAO Alexander BUYANTUYEV Qing ZHANG JianJun DONG XueFeng ZHANG | 2014 | Journal of Arid Land2014,6,2: | 16 |
| 2 | Two-Year Observation of Fossil Fuel Carbon Dioxide Spatial Distribution in Xi’an City显示文摘The need for atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO2)reduction in the context of global warming is widely acknowledged by the global scientific community.Fossil fuel CO2(CO2ff)emissions occur mainly in cities,and can be monitored directly with radiocarbon(14 C).In this research,annual plants[Setaria viridis(L.)Beauv.]were collected from 26 sites in 2013 and2014 in the central urban district of Xi’an City.The△14C content of the samples were analyzed using a 3 MV Accelerator Mass Spectrometer,and CO2ff concentrations were calculated based on mass balance equations.The results showed that the CO2ff mixing ratio ranged from 15.9 to 25.0 ppm(part per million,equivalent toμmol mol-1),with an average of 20.5 ppm in 2013.The range of measured values became larger in 2014,from 13.9 ppm to 33.1 ppm,with an average of 23.5 ppm.The differences among the average CO2ff concentrations between the central area and outer urban areas were not statistically significant.Although the year-to-year variation of the CO2ff concentration was significant(P<0.01),there was a distinctly low CO2 ff value observed in the northeast corner of the city.CO2 ff emiissions from vehicle exhaust and residential sources appeared to be more significant than two thermal power plants,according to our observed CO2 ff spatial distribution.The variation of pollution source transport recorded in our observations was likely controlled by southwesterly winds.These results could assist in the optimal placement of regional CO2 monitoring stations,and benefit the local government in the implementation of efficient carbon emission reduction measures. | Xiaohu XIONG Weijian ZHOU Shugang WU Peng CHENG Hua DU Yaoyao HOU Zhenchuan NIU Peng WANG Xuefeng LU Yunchong FU | 2020 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2020,37,6: | 2 |
| 3 | Hypocoagulation induced by broadspectrum antibiotics in extensive burn patients显示文摘Background:Patients with extensive burns usually develop pro-coagulation soon after the injury if there is no sepsis occurred.We describe the case of an extensive burn adult suffering from hypocoagulation not related to sepsis,but secondary to antibiotic treatment.Case presentation:Here,we report a case of an adult male patient suffering from flame burns of 45%total body surface area(40%full thickness)combined with inhalation injury.Hypocoagulopathy with soaring prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time value occurred on third week post-burn while systemic infection had been under control by application of broad-spectrum antibiotics.Investigations showed that not the infection but vitamin K-related coagulation factor deficiency were responsible for unexpected bleeding.However,supplemental vitamin K was not the key as we expected,which prompted us trying to decode the underlying cause of coagulation disturbance in this patient and pick out the most effective treatment for live-saving.After the withdrawal of highly suspected broad-spectrum antibiotic,Meropenem^(■),disturbed vitamin K related coagulation factors gradually restored to their optimal levels so as to maintain normal coagulation status.Therefore,surgical procedures without further risk of bleeding could be carried out in time for wound recovery.The patient was discharged on post-burn day 67 and transferred to a secondary hospital for his rehabilitation.Conclusion:Hypocoagulopathy may be devoted to different reasons other than sepsis in extensive burns.Early recognition of the cause for coagulation disturbance is critical to make appropriate treatment and save patients’lives.This case illustrated the importance of unveiling the mist cause for coagulation disturbance occurred in extensive burn patient,which paved the way for optimal life-saving treatments.And we also recommend burn surgeons to be alerted to antibiotic-induced vitamin K deficiency-related coagulopathy among critical burn patients. | Jian Liu Yiqing Liu Shengjun Liu Qin Zhang Jiexin Zheng Yiwen Niu Xuefeng Wang | 2019 | Burns & Trauma2019,7,1: | 2 |

| 8 | Environmental filtering does not necessarily prevent trait divergence: a case study of the Xilin River Basin in Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘Aims Understanding how environmental factors and human activity drive plant community assembly remains a major challenge in community ecology.Two opposing processes,namely determinis-tic environmental filtering and nondeterministic elements such as interspecies competition,can be quantified by analyzing trait distri-butions in the community-assembly process.Methods We examined the trait-mediated effects of environmental filtering and stochastic process and the distribution over time of nine traits related to vegetative growth,regenerative phase,dispersal capability,decom-position and interspecific competition in plant communities along a degradation gradient in the Xilin River Basin,Inner Mongolia,China.We analyzed the turnover of environmental trait filtering and the diver-gence/convergence of different traits along the degradation gradient.Important Findings Our results showed the following.(i)The patterns of trait distribu-tion and filtering were strongly dependent upon the degradation gradient and trait types.Most traits were filtered intensely in degraded grasslands.(ii)Plants with two different strategies showed contrasting trait-distribution patterns.The traits that were related to biological matter cycling showed divergent pat-terns in highly degraded grasslands,while convergent patterns along the overall gradient were demonstrated in traits associated with other plant strategies.This suggests that the coexistence of multiple‘biological matter cycling-related niches’might be a basic structuring pattern of plant communities in our study area.(iii)The simultaneous occurrence of strong filtering and diver-gence revealed that environmental filtering does not necessar-ily prevent competition,and that different traits show different signatures. | Saruul Kang Jianming Niu Qing Zhang Dan Li Haijuan Ren Jing Ren Xuefeng Zhang Jianjun Dong | 2017 | Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,3: | 1 |

| 14 | Status of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt for portal hypertension in China:A national survey analysis显示文摘Aim:The transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)procedure has been performed in China for 30 years,but our understanding of the status and difficulties associated with the use of TIPS for portal hypertension is incomplete.This study aims to investigate the current situation of the use of TIPS for portal hypertension,which should aid the development of TIPS in China.Methods:This study involved a questionnaire survey,initiated by the China Portal Hypertension Alliance(CHESS)to investigate the use of TIPS for portal hypertension in China.Questionnaires were released on the Internet between August 16,2022 and September 16,2022.Detailed information was collected from 545 hospitals contracted by the CHESS in China,which performed TIPS surgery in 2021.Results:The 545 hospitals covers the majority of hospitals in China that conduct TIPS intervention.In the survey,a total of 13,527 TIPS interventions were carried out with 94.1%(498/545)of them had a system of routine follow‐up after TIPS.The majority(42.6%[232/545])believed that the main indication of TIPS was the control of acute bleeding.Overall,48.1%(262/545)carried out early or pre‐emptive TIPS,53.0%(289/545)carried out TIPS for cavernous transformation of the portal vein,and 81.0%(441/545)chose routine embolization of collateral circulation during operation.Most used coils(97.0%[475/490])and biological glue(72.0%[353/490])as embolic materials,and 78.5%(428/545)routinely performed intraoperative portal pressure gradient measurements.When selecting TIPS stents,57.1%(311/545)chose viator‐specific stents,and 57.2%(312/545)chose conventional anticoagulation after TIPS.Conventional anticoagulation after TIPS is over a time interval of 3–6 months(55.4%[173/312]).The limitation of TIPS surgery is mainly its cost(72.3%[394/545])and insufficient understanding of the procedure by doctors in other related departments(77.4%[422/545]).Most of the hospital teams accept the use of domestic instruments in TIPS surgery(92.7%[505/545]).Conclusions:This survey shows that TIPS is an essential part of the treatment of portal hypertension in China.TIPS is widely used in Chinese patients with portal hypertension,and this survey presents a more comprehensive picture of the options and difficulties encountered in the implementation of TIPS.In the future,it is necessary to promote TIPS technology and further standardize surgical indications,routine operations,and instrument application. | Haibo Shao Xinwei Han Jianbo Zhao Junhui Sun Zhuting Fang Bin Xiong Xiaoli Zhu Weixin Ren Min Yuan Shiping Yu Meng Niu Weifu Lv Xueqiang Zhang Chunqing Zhang Lei Li Xuefeng Luo Yusheng Song Yilong Ma Tong Dang Hua Xiang Yun Jin Hui Xue Guiyun Jin Xiao Li Jiarui Li Shi Zhou Changlu Yu Song He Lei Yu Hongmei Zu Jun Ma Yanming Lei Ke Xu Xiaolong Qi | 2023 | Portal Hypertension & Cirrhosis2023,2,1: | 0 |
| 15 | Intranasal booster using an Omicron vaccine confers broad mucosal and systemic immunity against SARS-CoV-2 variants显示文摘The highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 Omicron subvariants severely attenuated the effectiveness of currently licensed SARS-CoV-2 vaccines based on ancestral strains administered via intramuscular injection.In this study,we generated a recombinant,replication-incompetent human adenovirus type 5,Ad5-S-Omicron,that expresses Omicron BA.1 spike.Intranasal,but not intramuscular vaccination,elicited spike-specific respiratory mucosal IgA and residential T cell immune responses,in addition to systemic neutralizing antibodies and T cell immune responses against most Omicron subvariants.We tested intranasal Ad5-S-Omicron as a heterologous booster in mice that previously received intramuscular injection of inactivated ancestral vaccine.In addition to inducing serum broadly neutralizing antibodies,there was a significant induction of respiratory mucosal IgA and neutralizing activities against Omicron subvariants BA.1,BA.2,BA.5,BA.2.75,BF.7 as well as pre-Omicron strains Wildtype,Beta,and Delta.Serum and mucosal neutralizing activities against recently emerged XBB,BQ.1,and BQ.1.1 could also be detected but were much lower.Nasal lavage fluids from intranasal vaccination contained multimeric IgA that can bind to at least 10 spike proteins,including Omicron subvariants and pre-Omicron strains,and possessed broadly neutralizing activities.Intranasal vaccination using Ad5-S-Omicron or instillation of intranasal vaccinee’s nasal lavage fluids in mouse nostrils protected mice against Omicron challenge.Taken together,intranasal Ad5-S-Omicron booster on the basis of ancestral vaccines can establish effective mucosal and systemic immunity against Omicron subvariants and multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants.This candidate vaccine warrants further development as a safe,effective,and user-friendly infection and transmission-blocking vaccine. | Qian Wang Chenchen Yang Li Yin Jing Sun Wei Wang Hengchun Li Zhengyuan Zhang Si Chen Bo Liu Zijian Liu Linjing Shi Xiaolin Liu Suhua Guan Chunhua Wang Linbing Qu Ying Feng Xuefeng Niu Liqiang Feng Jincun Zhao Pingchao Li Ling Chen Nanshan Zhong | 2023 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,5: | 0 |
| 16 | Simulation and analysis for anthropogenic heat release显示文摘Heat balance of urban ecosystem is a key point for the study of urban climate and micro-climate pattern and its change mechanism. Urban heat island effect is becoming increasingly serious,which is mainly caused by the change of the earth's surface cover and the anthropogenic heat release. In this study,the simulation experiment for the anthropogenic heat release was designed according to the heat balance principle. A set of buildings of miniature city were used to constitute the residential area,U grooves were applied to simulate the single building,and the fluorescent lamps in the U groove were regarded as the heat sources of the anthropogenic heat release. The simulation experiment was launched with long-short wave sun photometer,sonic anemothermometer and heat flow gauge in the experiment site. Then the net solar radiation,sensible heat flux and heat flux into the ground were determined. The quantities of the anthropogenic heat release were calculated based on the heat balance principle,and were compared with the theoretical power consumption of the fluorescent lamps. The root mean square error( RMSE) of the simulation for the anthropogenic heat release reaches0. 078 W·m- 2,a comparatively high precision,which showes that the anthropogenic heat release can be accurately determined through the simulation experiments.
