2Surface current field and seasonal variability in the Kuroshio and adjacent regions derived from satellite-tracked drifter data显示文摘The multiyear averaged surface current field and seasonal variability in the Kuroshio and adjacent regions are studied.The data used are trajectories and(1/4)° latitude by(1/4)° longitude mean currents derived from 323 Argos drifters deployed by Chinese institutions and world ocean circulation experiment from 1979 to 2003.The results show that the Kuroshio surface path adapts well to the western boundary topography and exhibits six great turnings.The branching occurs frequently near anticyclonic turnings rather than near cyclonic ones.In the Luzon Strait,the surface water intrusion into the South China Sea occurs only in fall and winter.The Kuroshio surface path east of Taiwan,China appears nearly as straight lines in summer,fall,and winter,when anticyclonic eddies coexist on its right side;while the path may cyclonically turning in spring when no eddy exists.The Kuroshio intrusion northeast of Taiwan often occurs in fall and winter,but not in summer.The running direction,width and velocity of the middle segment of the Kuroshio surface currents in the East China Sea vary seasonally.The northward intrusion of the Kuroshio surface water southwest of Kyushu occurs in spring and fall,but not in summer.The northmost position of the Kuroshio surface path southwest of Kyushu occurs in fall,but never goes beyond 31°N.The northward surface current east of the Ryukyu Islands exists only along Okinawa-Amami Islands from spring to fall.In particular,it appears as an arm of an anticyclonic eddy in fall.HU Xiaomin XIONG Xuejun QIAO Fangli GUO Binghuo LIN Xiaopei 2008Acta Oceanologica Sinica2008,27,3:23
3Research on heart sound identification technology显示文摘In this article,both the basic principles and the experimental methods of identity recognition technology based on heart sounds are addressed.First,the characteristics of heart sounds and the feasibility of heart sounds as a biometric were analyzed.A synthetic model of heart sounds was then developed based on a family of wavelets;Finally,the characteristic parameters of heart sounds were extracted by using the heart sounds linear band frequency cepstra(HS-LBFC)with a specified configuration,and the similarity distance was adopted for heart sound identification.To highlight the difference in two heart sound signals between the time and frequency domains,a construction method of the heart sound wavelet,a calculation method of the parameters of a synthetic model,selection of the characteristic parameters of heart sounds and the corresponding data processing technology were examined.The experimental results showed that the proposed method exhibited excellent performance and practicability.CHENG XieFeng MA Yong LIU Chen ZHANG XueJun GUO YuFeng 2012Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,2:20
4A review of removal technology for antimony in aqueous solution显示文摘Antimony(Sb)and its compounds,toxic metalloid,have been classified as high-priority pollutants.Increasing Sb released into the water environment by natural processes and anthropogenic activities,which exposure threatens to human health and ecosystems.Therefore,it is of unquestionable importance to remove Sb from polluted water.Keeping in view the extreme importance of this issue,we summarize the source,chemistry,speciation,distribution,toxicity,and polluted situation of Sb about aqueous solution.Then,we provide the recent and common technology to remove Sb,which are based on adsorption,coagulation/flocculation,electrochemical technology,membrane technology,ion exchange,etc.In this review,we focus in detail on the adsorption method,researchers at present have been investigating to discover more advanced,cost-effective,eco-friendly,reusable adsorbents.However,to date the Sb-containing wastewater treatment technologies are not sufficiently developed and most of research have been tested only in controlled lab conditions.Few reports are available that include field studies and applications.We critically analyzed the salient features and removal mechanisms,evaluating benefits and limitations of these technologies,hoping to provide more references for further research.Finally,we considered the Fe-or Mn-based technologies was the most promising technique to remove Sb for field application.Xiaojing Long Xin Wang Xuejun Guo Mengchang He 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,4:20

6Antimony smelting process generating solid wastes and dust:Characterization and leaching behaviors显示文摘A large amount of solid waste has been produced by the antimony smelting process in the'World Capital of Antimony', Xikuangshan area in China. This study comprehensively investigated the physical and chemical characteristics of the various solid wastes, as well as the leaching behavior of the solid wastes, which included water-quenched slag,arsenic-alkali residue, desulfurized slag and blast furnace dust. These four types of waste were enriched in a variety of heavy metals and metalloids and more specifically with As and Sb levels up to 8.6 × 104 and 3.16 × 105mg/kg, respectively, in arsenic-alkali residue. For desulfurized slag and water-quenched slag, the leaching concentration of Sb significantly exceeded the acceptable limits during the leaching tests using the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure and the synthetic precipitation leaching procedure. In addition, As leaching in arsenic-alkali residue was extraordinarily hazardous, being three orders of magnitude higher than the regulatory level of As. 7pH-dependent release characteristics of antimony and arsenic from typical antimony-bearing ores显示文摘The pH-dependent leaching of antimony(Sb) and arsenic(As) from three typical Sb-bearing ores(Banxi, Muli and Tongkeng Antimony Mine) in China was assessed using a pH-static leaching experiment. The pH changes of the leached solutions and pH-dependent leaching of Sb and As occurred in different ways. For the Banxi and Muli Sb ores, alkaline conditions were more favorable for the release of Sb compared to neutral and acidic conditions, but the reverse was true for the pH-dependent release of As. For the Tongkeng Sb ore, unlike the previous two Sb-bearing ores, acidic conditions were more favorable for Sb release than neutral and alkaline conditions.The ores with lower Sb and As contents released higher percentages of their Sb and As after 16 day leaching, suggesting that they are the largest potential sources of pollution. 8Distribution and transportation of mercury from glacier to lake in the Qiangyong Glacier Basin, southern Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau is home to the largest aggregate of glaciers outside the Polar Regions and is a source of fresh water to 1.4 billion people. Yet little is known about the transportation and cycling of Hg in high-elevation glacier basins on Tibetan Plateau. In this study, surface snow,glacier melting stream water and lake water samples were collected from the Qiangyong Glacier Basin. The spatiotemporal distribution and transportation of Hg from glacier to lake were investigated. Significant diurnal variations of dissolved Hg(DHg) concentrations were observed in the river water, with low concentrations in the morning(8:00 am–14:00 pm) and high concentrations in the afternoon(16:00 pm–20:00 pm). The DHg concentrations were exponentially correlated with runoff, which indicated that runoff was the dominant factor affecting DHg concentrations in the river water. Moreover, significant decreases of Hg were observed during transportation from glacier to lake. DHg adsorption onto particulates followed by the sedimentation of particulate-bound Hg(PHg) could be possible as an important Hg removal mechanism during the transportation process. Significant decreases in Hg concentrations were observed downstream of Xiao Qiangyong Lake, which indicated that the high-elevation lake system could significantly affect the distribution and transportation of Hg in the Qiangyong Glacier Basin.Shiwei Sun 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,6:10

10Insights into mercury in glacier snow and its incorporation into meltwater runoff based on observations in the southern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau(TP) is recognized as 'Water Tower of Asia'. Yet our understanding of mechanisms influencing incorporation of mercury(Hg) into freshwater in mountain glaciers on the TP remains quite limited. Extensive sampling of environmental matrices(e.g., snow/ice)were conducted on the East Rongbuk glacier on Mt. Everest and Zhadang glacier on Mt.Nyainqentanglha for Hg speciation analysis. Speciated Hg behaved quite different during snowmelt: a preferential early release of DHg(dissolved Hg) was observed at the onset of snowmelt, whereas PHg(particulate-bound Hg) and THg(total Hg) become relatively enriched in snow and released later. Small fraction of Hg in snow was lost during a snowmelt day(18.9%–34.7%) with a large proportion(58.1%–87.3%) contributed by PHg decrease, indicating that the deposited Hg is most likely retained in glacier snow/ice. Furthermore, THg were positively correlated with PHg and crustal major ions(e.g., Ca^(2+), Mg^(2+)) during snowmelt, indicating that Hg is mainly migrated with particulates. The main pathway of Hg loss during snowmelt was most probably associated with release of PHg with meltwater, which was greatly influenced by ablation intensity of snow/ice. This should be paid particular concern as Hg preserved in mountain glaciers will mostly enter aquatic ecosystem as climate warms, impacting on downstream ecosystems adversely. Obvious decrease of THg during the downstream transport from glacier was observed with a large proportion contributed by PHg decrease. 11In situ plasmonic optical fiber detection of the state of charge of supercapacitors for renewable energy storage显示文摘In situ and continuous monitoring of electrochemical activity is key to understanding and evaluating the operation mechanism and efficiency of energy storage devices.However,this task remains challenging.For example,the present methods are not capable of providing the real-time information about the state of charge(SOC)of the energy storage devices while in operation.To address this,a novel approach based on an electrochemical surface plasmon resonance(SPR)optical fiber sensor is proposed here.This approach offers the capability of in situ comprehensive monitoring of the electrochemical activity(the electrode potential and the SOC)of supercapacitors(used as an example).The sensor adopted is a tilted fiber Bragg grating imprinted in a commercial single-mode fiber and coated with a nanoscale gold film for high-efficiency SPR excitation.Unlike conventional“bulk”detection methods for electrode activity,our approach targets the“localized”(sub-μm-scale)charge state of the ions adjacent to the electrode interface of supercapacitors by monitoring the properties of the SPR wave on the fiber sensor surface located adjacent to the electrode.A stable and reproducible correlation between the real-time charge–discharge cycles of the supercapacitors and the optical transmission of the optical fiber has been found.Moreover,the method proposed is inherently immune to temperature cross-talk because of the presence of environmentally insensitive reference features in the optical transmission spectrum of the devices.Finally,this particular application is ideally suited to the fundamental qualities of optical fiber sensors,such as their compact size,flexible shape,and remote operation capability,thereby opening the way for other opportunities for electrochemical monitoring in various hard-to-reach spaces and remote environments.Jiajie Lao Peng Sun Fu Liu Xuejun Zhang Chuanxi Zhao Wenjie Mai Tuan Guo Gaozhi Xiao Jacques Albert 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:8

13Microstructure Evolution and Tensile Properties of Ti_3Al/Ni-based Superalloy Welded Joint显示文摘In the present work,the dissimilar joining of a Ti_3AI-based alloy to a Ni-based superalloy was attempted by gas tungsten arc(GTA) welding technology.Sound joints were successfully achieved by using a Cu—Ni alloy as filler material.According to X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis results three transitional layers at the weld/Ti_3AI interface were verified as follows:Ti_2AINb phase dissolved with Cu and Ni;AI(Cu,Ni)_2Ti,(Cu,Ni)_2Ti and(Nb,Ti) solid solution;Cu-rich phase and a complex multi-element phase.The In718/weld interface is characterized by solid solutions of Ni,Cu,Cr,Fe and Nb.The average tensile strength of the as-welded joints at room temperature is 1 63 MPa,and after a post—weld heat treatment it is increased slightly to 177 MPa.The fracture occurred at the surfacial layer of the joined Ti_3AI base alloy,indicating that the Ti_2AINb layer dissolved with Cu and Ni is the weak link of the Ti_3AI/ln71 8 joint.Bingqing Chen Huaping Xiong Bingbing Sun Siyi Tang Shaoqing Guo Xuejun Zhang 2014Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,7:7
14Hydrogen-rich saline protects against ultraviolet B radiation injury in rats显示文摘Exposure of skin to solar ultraviolet(UV) radiation induces photo-damage.Ultraviolet B(UVB) is the major component of UV radiation which induces the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and plays an impor-tant role in photo-damage.Hydrogen gas reduces ROS and alleviates inflammation.In this study,we sought to demonstrate that hydrogen-rich saline has the effect on skin injuries caused by UVB radiation.UVB radiation was irradiated on female C57BL/6 rats to induce skin injury.Hydrogen-rich saline and nitrogen-rich saline were ad-ministered to rats by intraperitoneal injection.Skin damage was detected by microscope after injury.UVB radia-tion had a significant affection in tumor necrosis factor alpha,interleukin(IL)-1β and IL-6 levels,tissue superox-ide dismutase,malondialdehyde and nitric oxide activity.Hydrogen-rich saline had a protective effect by altering the levels of these markers and relieved morphological skin injury.Hydrogen-rich saline protected against UVB radiation injury,possibly by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.Ze Guo Bingrong Zhou Wei Li Xuejun Sun Dan Luo 2012The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,5:6

16Reactive oxygen species may play an essential role in driving biological evolution: The Cambrian Explosion as an example显示文摘The Cambrian Explosion is one of the most significant events in the history of life;essentially all easily fossilizable animal body plans first evolved during this event. Although many theories have been proposed to explain this event, its cause remains unresolved.Here, we propose that the elevated level of oxygen, in combination with the increased mobility and food intake of metazoans, led to increased cellular levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS), which drove evolution by enhancing mutation rates and providing new regulatory mechanisms. Our hypothesis may provide a unified explanation for the Cambrian Explosion as it incorporates both environmental and developmental factors and is also consistent with ecological explanations for animal radiation. 17Short fixation with a 3‐rod technique for posterior hemivertebra resection in children younger than 5 years old显示文摘Importance Congenital hemivertebra is commonly treated with posterior hemivertebra resection with bilateral transpedicular fixation.However,implant‐related complications are common in children younger than 5 years old who undergo this surgical procedure.Objective To present the preliminary clinical and radiological outcomes of children younger than 5 years old treated by posterior hemivertebra resection and 3‐rod fixation technique.Methods From January 2016 to December 2017,14 consecutive patients of congenital scoliosis with 16 hemivertebrae were retrospectively reviewed,including 5 girls and 9 boys,aged between 25 and 55 months old(average,37.6 months).All patients underwent posterior hemivertebra resection with short fixation with bilateral pedicle screws and a convex lamina hook.Surgical complications and corrective outcomes were assessed based on the clinical charts and spinal radiographs with a minimum 24‐month follow‐up.Results The mean Cobb angle of the main curve was 38.4°before surgery,8.5°after surgery,and 8.7°at final follow‐up.In the compensatory cranial curve,the preoperative Cobb angle of 16.8°was corrected to 8.1°postoperatively and was 10.3°at final follow‐up.In the compensatory caudal curve,the preoperative Cobb angle of 15.9°improved to 5.3°postoperatively and was 7.8°at final follow‐up.The segmental kyphosis was corrected from 13.5°to 0.5°and was 1.1°at final follow‐up.There were no crankshaft phenomena,no proximal kyphosis,and no complications related to the instrumentation.Interpretation Posterior hemivertebra resection with instrumentation with bilateral pedicle screws and a convex lamina hook can achieve rigid fixation and deformity correction.Dong Guo Ziming Yao Xinyu Qi Chengxin Li Xuejun Zhang 2020Pediatric Investigation2020,4,2:4

20Bottom Currents Observed in and Around a Submarine Valley on the Continental Slope of the Northern South China Sea显示文摘Bottom currents at about 1000 m depth in and around a submarine valley on the continental slope of the northern South China Sea were studied by a 14-month long experiment from July 2013 to September 2014. The observations reveal that bottom currents are strongly influenced by the topography, being along valley axis or isobaths. Power density spectrum analysis shows that all the currents have significant peaks at diurnal and semi-diurnal frequencies. Diurnal energy is dominant at the open slope site, which is consistent with many previous studies. However, at the site inside the valley the semi-diurnal energy dominates, although the distance between the two sites of observation is quite small(11 km) compared to a typical horizontal first-mode internal tide wavelength(200 km). We found this phenomenon is caused by the focusing of internal waves of certain frequencies in the valley. The inertial peak is found only at the open slope site in the first deployment but missing at the inside valley site and the rest of the deployments. Monthly averaged residual currents reveal that the near-bottom currents on the slope flow southwestward throughout the year except in August and September, 2013, from which we speculate that this is a result of the interaction between a mesoscale eddy and the canyon/sag topography. Currents inside the valley within about 10 mab basically flow along slope and in the layers above the 10 mab the currents are northwestward, that is, from the deep ocean to the shelf.
