1Investigation of ionospheric TEC changes related to the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake based on statistic analysis and signal detection显示文摘Ionospheric TEC(total electron content) time series are derived from GPS measurements at 13 stations around the epicenter of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.Defining anomaly bounds for a sliding window by quartile and 2-standard deviation of TEC values,this paper analyzed the characteristics of ionospheric changes before and after the destructive event.The Neyman-Pearson signal detection method is employed to compute the probabilities of TEC abnormalities.Result shows that one week before the Wenchuan earthquake,ionospheric TEC over the epicenter and its vicinities displays obvious abnormal disturbances,most of which are positive anomalies.The largest TEC abnormal changes appeared on May 9,three days prior to the seismic event.Signal detection shows that the largest possibility of TEC abnormity on May 9 is 50.74%,indicating that ionospheric abnormities three days before the main shock are likely related to the preparation process of the MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake.Jianyong Li Guojie Meng Min Wang Hua Liao Xuhui Shen 2009Earthquake Science2009,22,5:6
2Electromyographic evaluation of functional electrical stimulation to injured oculomotor nerve显示文摘Functional electrical stimulation delivered early after injury to the proximal nerve stump has been proposed as a therapeutic approach for enhancing the speed and specificity of axonal regeneration following nerve injury. In this study, the injured oculomotor nerve was stimulated functionally by an implantable electrode. Electromyographic monitoring of the motor unit potential of the inferior oblique muscle was conducted for 12 weeks in two injury groups, one with and one without electric stimulation. The results revealed that, at 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks after functional electric stimulation of the injured oculomotor nerve, motor unit potentials significantly increased, such that amplitude was longer and spike duration gradually shortened. These findings indicate that the injured oculomotor nerve has the potential for regeneration and repair, but this ability is not sufficient for full functional recovery to occur. 3A Thermochromic, Viscoelastic Nacre-like Nanocomposite for the Smart Thermal Management of Planar Electronics显示文摘Cutting-edge heat spreaders for soft and planar electronics require not only high thermal conductivity and a certain degree of flexibility but also remarkable self-adhesion without thermal interface materials, elasticity, arbitrary elongation along with soft devices, and smart properties involving thermal self-healing, thermochromism and so on. Nacre-like composites with excellent in-plane heat dissipation are ideal as heat spreaders for thin and planar electronics. However, the intrinsically poor viscoelasticity, i.e., adhesion and elasticity, prevents them from simultaneous self-adhesion and arbitrary elongation along with current flexible devices as well as incurring high interfacial thermal impedance. In this paper, we propose a soft thermochromic composite(STC) membrane with a layered structure, considerable stretchability, high in-plane thermal conductivity(~30 Wm^(-1) K^(-1)), low thermal contact resistance(~12 mm^2 KW^(-1), 4–5 times lower than that of silver paste), strong yet sustainable adhesion forces(~4607 Jm^(-2), 2220 Jm^(-2) greater than that of epoxy paste) and self-healing efficiency. As a self-adhesive heat spreader, it implements efficient cooling of various soft electronics with a temperature drop of 20℃ than the polyimide case. 4Physics-informed neural networks with residual/gradient-based adaptive sampling methods for solving partial differential equations with sharp solutions显示文摘We consider solving the forward and inverse partial differential equations(PDEs)which have sharp solutions with physics-informed neural networks(PINNs)in this work.In particular,to better capture the sharpness of the solution,we propose the adaptive sampling methods(ASMs)based on the residual and the gradient of the solution.We first present a residual only-based ASM denoted by ASMⅠ.In this approach,we first train the neural network using a small number of residual points and divide the computational domain into a certain number of sub-domains,then we add new residual points in the sub-domain which has the largest mean absolute value of the residual,and those points which have the largest absolute values of the residual in this sub-domain as new residual points.We further develop a second type of ASM(denoted by ASMⅡ)based on both the residual and the gradient of the solution due to the fact that only the residual may not be able to efficiently capture the sharpness of the solution.The procedure of ASMⅡis almost the same as that of ASMⅠ,and we add new residual points which have not only large residuals but also large gradients.To demonstrate the effectiveness of the present methods,we use both ASMⅠand ASMⅡto solve a number of PDEs,including the Burger equation,the compressible Euler equation,the Poisson equation over an Lshape domain as well as the high-dimensional Poisson equation.It has been shown from the numerical results that the sharp solutions can be well approximated by using either ASMⅠor ASMⅡ,and both methods deliver much more accurate solutions than the original PINNs with the same number of residual points.Moreover,the ASMⅡalgorithm has better performance in terms of accuracy,efficiency,and stability compared with the ASMⅠalgorithm.This means that the gradient of the solution improves the stability and efficiency of the adaptive sampling procedure as well as the accuracy of the solution.Furthermore,we also employ the similar adaptive sampling technique for the data points of boundary conditions(BCs)if the sharpness of the solution is near the boundary.The result of the L-shape Poisson problem indicates that the present method can significantly improve the efficiency,stability,and accuracy.Zhiping MAO Xuhui MENG 2023Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2023,44,7:1

6Recent advances in surface endothelialization of the magnesium alloy stent materials显示文摘Magnesium and its alloy have good mechanical properties and biodegradability,and have become the hotspot of the next-generation biodegradable vascular stent materials.However,their rapid degradation in vivo and poor biocompatibility are still the bottlenecks of clinical applications for the cardiovascular stents.In particular,how to induce the repair and regeneration of the vascular endothelial with normal physiological functions on the surface of the magnesium alloy stent materials represents the key to its clinical application in the field of cardiovascular stents.It has been believed that it is an ideal way to completely solve the postoperative complications through constructing the multifunctional anti-corrosive bioactive coating on the magnesium alloy surface to induce the formation of vascular endothelium with normal physiological functions.However,how to construct a corrosion-resistant multifunctional bioactive coating with the good endothelial regeneration abilities on the magnesium alloy surface still faces a great challenge.This paper mainly focused on highlighting and summarizing the recent advances in the surface endothelialization of the magnesium alloy materials for the vascular stent,including the bio-inert coating,in-situ immobilization of bioactive molecules on the surface,polymer coating loaded with bioactive factors,novel multifunctional polymer coating,bioactive micropatterns,bioactive layer with glycocalyx-like structure,NO-releasing coating and bioactive sol-gel coating.The advantages and disadvantages of these strategies were discussed and analyzed.Finally,in the senses of future development and clinical application,this paper analyzed and summarized the development direction and prospect of surface endothelialization of the magnesium alloy vascular stents.It is anticipated that this review can give the new cues to the surface endothelialization of the cardiovascular magnesium alloy stents and promote future advancements in this field.Changjiang Pan Xuhui Liu Qingxiang Hong Jie Chen Yuxin Cheng Qiuyang Zhang Lingjie Meng Juan Dai Zhongmei Yang Lingren Wang 2023Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2023,11,1:1
7Kinetics process for structure-engineered integrated gradient porous paper-based supercapacitors with boosted electrochemical performance显示文摘Due to their rich and adjustable porous network structure,paper-based functional materials have become a research hotspot in the field of energy storage.However,reasonably designing and making full use of the rich pore structure of paper-based materials to improve the electrochemical performance of paper-based energy storage devices still faces many challenges.Herein,we propose a structure engineering technique to develop a conductive integrated gradient porous paper-based(CIGPP)supercapacitor,and the kinetics process for the influence of gradient holes on the electrochemical performance of the CIGPP is investigated through experimental tests and COMSOL simulations.All results indicate that the gradient holes endow the CIGPP with an enhanced electrochemical performance.Specifically,the CIGPP shows a significant improvement in the specific capacitance,displays rich frequency response characteristics for electrolyte ions,and exhibits a good rate performance.Also,the CIGPP supercapacitor exhibits a low self-discharge and maintains a stable electrochemical performance in different electrolyte environments because of gradient holes.More importantly,when the CIGPP is used as a substrate to fabricate a CIGPP-PANI hybrid,it still maintains good electrochemical properties.In addition,the CIGPP supercapacitor also shows excellent stability and sensitivity for monitoring human motion and deaf-mute voicing,showing potential application prospects.This study provides a reference and feasible way for the design of structure-engineered integrated paper-based energy storage devices with outstanding comprehensive electrochemical performance.Chuanyin Xiong Yongkang Zhang Jiayu Xu Weihua Dang Xuhui Sun Meng An Yonghao Ni Junjie Mao 2023Nano Research2023,16,7:1
8Variational inference in neural functional prior using normalizing flows: application to differential equation and operator learning problems显示文摘Physics-informed deep learning has recently emerged as an effective tool for leveraging both observational data and available physical laws.Physics-informed neural networks(PINNs)and deep operator networks(DeepONets)are two such models.The former encodes the physical laws via the automatic differentiation,while the latter learns the hidden physics from data.Generally,the noisy and limited observational data as well as the over-parameterization in neural networks(NNs)result in uncertainty in predictions from deep learning models.In paper“MENG,X.,YANG,L.,MAO,Z.,FERRANDIS,J.D.,and KARNIADAKIS,G.E.Learning functional priors and posteriors from data and physics.Journal of Computational Physics,457,111073(2022)”,a Bayesian framework based on the generative adversarial networks(GANs)has been proposed as a unified model to quantify uncertainties in predictions of PINNs as well as DeepONets.Specifically,the proposed approach in“MENG,X.,YANG,L.,MAO,Z.,FERRANDIS,J.D.,and KARNIADAKIS,G.E.Learning functional priors and posteriors from data and physics.Journal of Computational Physics,457,111073(2022)”has two stages:(i)prior learning,and(ii)posterior estimation.At the first stage,the GANs are utilized to learn a functional prior either from a prescribed function distribution,e.g.,the Gaussian process,or from historical data and available physics.At the second stage,the Hamiltonian Monte Carlo(HMC)method is utilized to estimate the posterior in the latent space of GANs.However,the vanilla HMC does not support the mini-batch training,which limits its applications in problems with big data.In the present work,we propose to use the normalizing flow(NF)models in the context of variational inference(VI),which naturally enables the mini-batch training,as the alternative to HMC for posterior estimation in the latent space of GANs.A series of numerical experiments,including a nonlinear differential equation problem and a 100-dimensional(100D)Darcy problem,are conducted to demonstrate that the NFs with full-/mini-batch training are able to achieve similar accuracy as the“gold rule”HMC.Moreover,the mini-batch training of NF makes it a promising tool for quantifying uncertainty in solving the high-dimensional partial differential equation(PDE)problems with big data.Xuhui MENG 2023Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2023,44,7:0
9Centimeter-sized Cs_(3)Cu_(2)I_(5)single crystals grown by oleic acid assisted inverse temperature crystallization strategy and their films for high-quality X-ray imaging显示文摘Low-dimensional halide perovskites have become the most promising candidates for X-ray imaging,yet the issues of the poor chemical stability of hybrid halide perovskite,the high poisonousness of lead halides and the relatively low detectivity of the lead-free halide perovskites which seriously restrain its commercialization.Here,we developed a solution inverse temperature crystal growth(ITCG)method to bring-up high quality Cs_(3)Cu_(2)I_(5)crystals with large size of centimeter order,in which the oleic acid(OA)is introduced as an antioxidative ligand to inhibit the oxidation of cuprous ions effieiently,as well as to decelerate the crystallization rate remarkalby.Based on these fine crystals,the vapor deposition technique is empolyed to prepare high quality Cs_(3)Cu_(2)I_(5)films for efficient X-ray imaging.Smooth surface morphology,high light yields and short decay time endow the Cs_(3)Cu_(2)I_(5)films with strong radioluminescence,high resolution(12 lp/mm),low detection limits(53 nGyair/s)and desirable stability.Subsequently,the Cs_(3)Cu_(2)I_(5)films have been applied to the practical radiography which exhibit superior X-ray imaging performance.Our work provides a paradigm to fabricate nonpoisonous and chemically stable inorganic halide perovskite for X-ray imaging.Tao Chen Xin Li Yong Wang Feng Lin Ruliang Liu Wenhua Zhang Jie Yang Rongfei Wang Xiaoming Wen Bin Meng Xuhui Xu Chong Wang 2023Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,4:0
10Satellite detection of IR precursors using bi-angular advanced along-track scanning radiometer data:a case study of Yushu earthquake显示文摘The paper has developed and proposed a synthesis analysis method based on the robust satellite data analysis technique(RST) to detect seismic anomalies within the bi-angular advanced along-track scanning radiometer(AATSR) gridded brightness temperature(BT)data based on spatial/temporal continuity analysis. The proposed methods have been applied to analyze the Yushu(Qinghai, China) earthquake occurred on 14 th April 2010,and a full AATSR data-set of 8 years data from March2003 to May 2010 with longitude from 91°E to 101°E and latitude from 28°N to 38°N has been analyzed. Combining with the tectonic explanation of spatial and temporal continuity of the abnormal phenomena, the analyzed results indicate that the infrared radiation anomalies detected by the AATSR BT data with nadir view appear and enhance gradually along with the development and occurring of the earthquake, especially along the Ganzi-Yushu fault, Nu River fault and Jiali-Chayu fault; more infrared anomalies along the earthquake fault zone(Lancangjiang fault and Ning Karma Monastery-Deqin fault) are detected using the proposed synthesis analysis method, which can also characterize the activity of seismic faults more precisely.Pan Xiong Xuhui Shen Xingfa Gu Qingyan Meng Yaxin Bi Liming Zhao Yanhua Zhao Yan Li Jianting Dong 2015Earthquake Science2015,28,1:0
11A standardized method to create peripheral nerve injury in dogs using an automatic non-serrated forceps显示文摘This study describes a method that not only generates an automatic and standardized crush injury in the skull base, but also provides investigators with the option to choose from a range of varying pressure levels. We designed an automatic, non-serrated forceps that exerts a varying force of 0 to 100 g and lasts for a defined period of 0 to 60 seconds. This device was then used to generate a crush injury to the right oculomotor nerve of dogs with a force of 10 g for 15 seconds, resulting in a deficit in the pupil-light reflex and ptosis. Further testing of our model with Toluidine-blue staining demonstrated that, at 2 weeks post-surgery disordered oculomotor nerve fibers, axonal loss, and a thinner than normal myelin sheath were visible. Electrophysiological examination showed occasional spontaneous potentials. 12Contrast-enhanced CT of Pulmonary Embolism: Report of 20 cases显示文摘Objectives To study the characteristic of pulmonary embolism (PE) in contrast-enhanced CT. Methods The radiological features were described in 20 patients with lobar and proximal PE diagnosed with a Toshiba Xpress/SX CT scanner after contrast material was administrated.Results There were 7 cases of pulmonary embolism (PE) secondary to lower limb deep vein thrombosis (DVT), of which 2 cases were related to sauna bath. We grouped the cases according to their extensiveness of embolism: mild, moderate, severe, or complete embolism. Mild embolism: the emboli occupied less than 30%, of the inner diameter of pulmonary artery (PA). Median embolism: the emboli occupied 30~50% of the PA diameter. Severe embolism: the emboli occupied over half of the PA (50%), but there were contrast flow. Completed embolism: there was no contrast found around the emboli. The direct sign of PE was a filling defect or no opacification in the affected branch of pulmonary artery (PA). There were 9 other secondary signs: ①widen PA, ②enlarged right ventricle and the right atrium, ③increased translucency of the lung and decreased bronchovascular shadows,④shrunken pulmonary veins liked dried rattan,⑤decreased left atrium and the left ventricle size, ⑥shifting of interventricular septum to the left and posterior direction,⑦The lateral lung parenchyma demonstrated in a triangular shape, ⑧pleural effusion and ⑨pericardiacle effusion. Conclusions The diagnosis of PE was revealed by 10 radiological signs by contrast-enhanced CT:With full understanding of the pathophysiological basis of these 10 signs:correct diagnosis of pulmonary embolism can be made.PE is commonly caused by lower limb.
