1Basic and translational aging research in China: present and future显示文摘The percentage of elderly people in the world is increasing at an unprecedented pace;so it is in China, which has the world s largest population and a high ratio of the seniors (aged 60 and above) to working-age adults. The growing elderly population is presenting a major social challenge. Accordingly, it is not only imperative as a national strategic demand but also promises great scientific values to understand the biological process of aging, explore the mystery of healthy aging, delay the aging process, and treat the age-related diseases. 2Community assemblage of free-living diazotrophs along the elevational gradient of Mount Gongga显示文摘Mountain systems are unique for studying the responses of species distribution and diversity to environmental changes along elevational gradients.It is well known that free-living diazotrophic microorganisms are important to nitrogen cycling in mountain systems.However,the elevational patterns of free-living diazotrophs and the underlying ecological processes in controlling their turnover along broader gradients are less well documented.Here,we investigated the pattern of diazotrophic diversity along the elevational gradient(1800 m-4100 m)in Mount Gongga of China.The results showed that the α-diversity of diazotrophs did not change with the elevation from 1800 m to 2800 m,but decreased at elevations above 3000 m.Such diversity pattern was driven mainly by soil total carbon,nitrogen,and plant richness.Various diazotrophic taxa showed differential abundance-elevation relationships.Ecological processes determining diazotrophic community assemblage shift along the elevations.Deterministic processes were relatively stronger at both low and high elevations,whereas stochastic processes were stronger at the middle elevation.This study also suggested a strong relationship among aboveground plants and diazotrophs,highlighting their potential interactions,even for free-living diazotrophs.Yansu Wang Chaonan Li Zehao Shen Junpeng Rui Decai Jin Jiabao Li Xiangzhen Li 2019Soil Ecology Letters2019,1,3:8
3Dynamic Expression of mi RNAs and Their Targets in the Response to Drought Stress of Grafted Cucumber Seedlings显示文摘Grafting of cucumber is widely used to improve growth and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Micro RNAs(miRNAs) regulate plant growth and development, and respond to various stresses through negative, post-transcriptional regulation of the expression of their target genes. We grafted cucumber(Cucumis sativus) scions onto pumpkin(Cucurbita moschata) rootstocks to study the molecular mechanisms of miRNA-mediated graftinginduced responses to drought stress. The relative expressions of 17 selected miRNAs and their predicted target m RNAs were detected by quantitative real-time PCR(q RT-PCR) in leaves and roots of hetero-grafted cucumber seedlings(cucumber as scion and pumpkin as rootstock) and autografted cucumber seedlings(cucumber as scion and rootstock) after 24 hours of 15% PEG6000 treatment. Compared with the expression in leaves of auto-grafted cucumber seedlings, the expressions of most miRNAs in the leaves of hetero-grafted seedlings changed dynamically: induced under normal conditions, and reduced after 3 h of drought stress, and then induced after 8 h and 24 h of drought stress. Similarly, compared with the expression in roots of auto-grafted cucumber seedlings, the expressions of most miRNAs in the roots of hetero-grafted cucumber seedlings changed dynamically: reduced under normal condition, and still reduced after 1 h, but induced after 3 h and 8 h, then reduced significant y after24 h of drought stress. 4Changes in Electroencephalogram Approximate Entropy Reflect Auditory Processing and Functional Complexity in Frogs显示文摘Brain systems engage in what are generally considered to be among the most complex forms of information processing. In the present study, we investigated the functional complexity of anuran auditory processing using the approximate entropy(Ap En) protocol for electroencephalogram(EEG) recordings from the forebrain and midbrain while male and female music frogs(Babina daunchina) listened to acoustic stimuli whose biological significance varied. The stimuli used were synthesized white noise(reflecting a novel signal), conspecific male advertisement calls with either high or low sexual attractiveness(reflecting sexual selection) and silence(reflecting a baseline). The results showed that 1) Ap En evoked by conspecific calls exceeded Ap En evoked by synthesized white noise in the left mesencephalon indicating this structure plays a critical role in processing acoustic signals with biological significance; 2) Ap En in the mesencephalon was significantly higher than for the telencephalon, consistent with the fact that the anuran midbrain contains a large well-organized auditory nucleus(torus semicircularis) while the forebrain does not; 3) for females Ap En in the mesencephalon was significantly different than that of males, suggesting that males and females process biological stimuli related to mate choice differently.Yansu LIU Yanzhu FAN Fei XUE Xizi YUE Steven E.BRAUTH Yezhong TANG Guangzhan FANG 2016Asian Herpetological Research2016,7,3:4
5A New Method for Optimizing the Configuration of the Chinese Square Kilometer Array显示文摘KARST, the Chinese SKA concept, consists of some 30 individual FAST-type elements to be set up in a karst region of Guizhou Province. A crucial question is how to select 30 optimized sites from hundreds of candidates. Here we introduce a uniform weight method, which can pick out suitable sites on the basis of uniformity and completeness of the u-v coverage. In order to meet some special scientific goals, such as imaging extended sources, a modification of this method is also discussed. 6CrOx supported on high-silica HZSM-5 for propane dehydrogenation显示文摘Industrial propane dehydrogenation(PDH)catalysts generally suffer from low catalytic stability due to the coke formation onto the catalyst surface to cover the active sites.The exploitation of an efficient catalyst with both high catalytic selectivity and long-term stability toward PDH is of great importance but challenging to make.Herein CrOx supported on high-silica HZSM-5 with a SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of 260(Cr/Z-5(260)is synthesized by a simple wet impregnation method,which exhibits high catalytic activity,good selectivity and excellent stability for PDH.At a weight hourly space velocity(WHSV)of 0.59 h-1,a propylene formation rate of 4.1 mmol g-1cath-1(~32.6% propane conversion and ~94.2% propylene selectivity)can be maintained over the 5%Cr/Z-5(260)catalyst after 50 h time on stream,which is much better than commercial Cr/Al2O3(Catofin process,catalyst life is several hours)at the same reaction conditions.With increasing the WHSV to 5.9 h-1,a high propylene formation rate of 27.9 mmol gcat-1h-1can be obtained over the 5%Cr/Z-5(260)catalyst after 50 h time on stream,demonstrating a very promising PDH catalyst.Characterization results and Na+doping experiments reveal that the Cr species combined with Br?nsted acid sites in Cr/HZSM-5 catalysts are responsible for the high catalytic performance.In particular,the Br?nsted acid sites in HZSM-5 zeolite could increase the propane adsorption and enhance the C–H bond activation.Furthermore,the high surface area and well-defined pores of HZSM-5 zeolite can provide a special environment for the dispersion and stabilization of Cr species,thus guaranteeing high catalytic activity and stability.Zhong-Pan Hu Yansu Wang Dandan Yang Zhong-Yong Yuan 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,8:3
7Interference of CsGPA1,theα-submit of G protein,reduces drought tolerance in cucumber seedlings显示文摘The G proteinα-subunit,GPA1,is an integral component of several signaling pathways in plants,including response to abiotic stress.However,the molecular mechanism behind these processes remains largely unknown in the cucumber plant(Cucumis sativus L.).In order to further understand the role of CsGPA1 in cucumber under drought stress,changes in plant growth,physiological parameters,and gene expression of CsAQPs were all measured under water stress induced by polyethylene glycol(PEG)using wild type(WT)and CsGPA1-interference(RNAi)cucumber seedlings.Our results demonstrated that the RNAi plants had lower drought tolerance,displaying seriously withered leaves,lower relative growth rate,lower root-shoot ratio,and lower root activity under drought stress compared to WT plants.Physiological studies indicated that the suppression of CsGPA1 weakened drought stress tolerance due to higherwater loss rate in the leaves,higher levels of hydrogen peroxide(H2O2),increased malondialdehyde(MDA)content,lower free proline content,lower soluble sugar content,lower soluble protein content,and decreased antioxidant enzyme activities.qRT-PCR analysis demonstrated that the interference of CsGPA1 up-regulated the expression of most AQP genes(except for CsPIP2;3 in leaves)and down-regulated the expression of CsPIP1;2,CsPIP1;4,CsPIP2;1,and CsPIP2;4 in roots under drought stress when compared to WT plants.Our results demonstrated that CsGPA1 could function as a positive regulator in drought stress response by decreasing the accumulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS),improving permeable potentials,and reducing water loss in cucumber plants.Yumei Liu Qinghua Du Longqiang Bai Mintao Sun Yansu Li Chaoxing He Jun Wang Xianchang Yu Yan Yan 2021Horticultural Plant Journal2021,7,3:3
8Sugars promote graft union development in the heterograft of cucumber onto pumpkin显示文摘The use of heterografts is widely applied for the production of several important commercial crops,but the molecular mechanism of graft union formation remains poorly understood.Here,cucumber grafted onto pumpkin was used to study graft union development,and genome-wide tempo-spatial gene expression at the graft interface was comprehensively investigated.Histological analysis suggested that resumption of the rootstock growth occurred after both phloem and xylem reconnection,and the scion showed evident callus production compared with the rootstock 3 days after grafting.Consistently,transcriptome data revealed specific responses between the scion and rootstock in the expression of genes related to cambium development,the cell cycle,and sugar metabolism during both vascular reconnection and healing,indicating distinct mechanisms.Additionally,lower levels of sugars and significantly changed sugar enzyme activities at the graft junction were observed during vascular reconnection.Next,we found that the healing process of grafted etiolated seedlings was significantly delayed,and graft success,xylem reconnection,and the growth of grafted plants were enhanced by exogenous glucose.This demonstrates that graft union formation requires the correct sugar content.Furthermore,we also found that graft union formation was delayed with a lower energy charge by the target of rapamycin(TOR)inhibitor AZD-8055,and xylem reconnection and the growth of grafted plants were enhanced under AZD-8055 with exogenous glucose treatment.Taken together,our results reveal that sugars play a positive role in graft union formation by promoting the growth of cucumber/pumpkin and provide useful information for understanding graft union healing and the application of heterografting in the future.Li Miao Qing Li Tian-shu Sun Sen Chai Changlin Wang Longqiang Bai Mintao Sun Yansu Li Xing Qin Zhonghua Zhang Xianchang Yu 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:3

15Study on the role of copper converter slag in simultaneously removing SO_(2)and NO_(x)using KMnO_(4)/copper converter slag slurry显示文摘To achieve'waste controlled by waste',a novel wet process using KMnO_(4)/copper converter slag slurry for simultaneously removing SO_(2)and NO_(x)from acid-making tail gas was proposed.Through the solid-liquid separation for copper slag slurry,the liquid-phase part has a critical influence on removing NO_(x)and SO_(2).Also,the leached metal ions played a crucial role in the absorption of SO_(2)and NO_(x).Subsequently,the effects of single/multi-metal ions on NO_(x)removal was investigated.The results showed that the leached metal from copper converter slag(Al^(3+),Cu^((2+),and Mg^((2+))and KMnO_(4)had a synergistic effect on NO_(x)removal,thereby improving the NO_(x)removal efficiency.Whereas Fe^(2+) had an inhibitory effect on the NO_(x)removal owing to the reaction between Fe^(2+) and KMnO_(4),thereby consuming the KMnO_(4).Besides,SO_(2)was converted to SO_(4)^(2-) completely partly due to the liquid catalytic oxidation by metal ions.The XRD and XPS results indicated that the Fe(Ⅱ)species(Fe_(2)SiO_(4),Fe_(3)O_(4))in copper slag can react with H+ions with the generation of Fe^(2+),and further consumed the KMnO_(4),thereby resulting in a decrease in the NO_(x)removal.The characterization of the slags and solutions before and after reaction led us to propose the possible mechanisms.The role of copper slag is as follows:(1)the alkaline substances in copper slag can absorb SO_(2)and NO_(2)by KMnO_(4)oxidation.(2)copper slag may function as a catalyst to accelerate SO_(2)conversion and improve NO_(x)removal by synergistic effect between leached metal ions and KMnO_(4).Jiacheng Bao Kai Li Ping Ning Chi Wang Xin Song Yansu Luo Xin Sun 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,10:1
