Towards an Artificial Intelligence Framework for Data-Driven Prediction of Coronavirus Clinical Severity显示文摘The virus SARS-CoV2,which causes the Coronavirus disease COVID-19 has become a pandemic and has spread to every inhabited continent.Given the increasing caseload, there is an urgent need to augment clinical skills in order to identify from among the many mild cases the few that will progress to critical illness. We present a first step towards building an artificial intelligence(AI)framework, with predictive analytics(PA)capabilities applied to real patient data,to provide rapid clinical decision-making support.COVID-19 has presented a pressing need as a)clinicians are still developing clinical acumen given the disease’s novelty, and b)resource limitations in a rapidly expanding pandemic require difficult decisions relating to resource allocation. The objectives of this research are:(1)to algorithmically identify the combinations of clinical characteristics of COVID-19 that predict outcomes,and(2)to develop a tool with AI capabilities that will predict patients at risk for more severe illness on initial presentation. The predictive models learn from historical data to help predict specifically who will develop acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS),a severe outcome in COVID-19.Our experimental results based on two hospitals in Wenzhou,Zhejang,China identify features most predictive of ARDS in COVID-19 initial presentation which would not have stood out to clinicians.A mild increase in elevated alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(a liver enzyme)),a presence of myalgias(body aches),and an increase in hemoglobin,in this order, are the clinical features,on presentation, that are the most predictive. Those two centers’COVID-19 case series symptoms on initial presentation can help predict severe outcomes.Predictive models that learned from historical data of patients from two Chinese hospitals achieved 70%to 80%accuracy in predicting severe cases. | Xiangao Jiang Megan Coffee Anasse Bari Junzhang Wang Xinyue Jiang Jianping Huang Jichan Shi Jianyi Dai Jing Cai Tianxiao Zhang Zhengxing Wu Guiqing He Yitong Huang | 2020 | Computers, Materials & Continua2020,,4: | 15
Networking retinomorphic sensor with memristive crossbar for brain-inspired visual perception显示文摘Compared to human vision, conventional machine vision composed of an image sensor and processor suffers from high latency and large power consumption due to physically separated image sensing and processing.A neuromorphic vision system with brain-inspired visual perception provides a promising solution to the problem. Here we propose and demonstrate a prototype neuromorphic vision system by networking a retinomorphic sensor with a memristive crossbar. We fabricate the retinomorphic sensor by using WSe_(2)/h-BN/Al_(2)O_(3)van der Waals heterostructures with gate-tunable photoresponses,to closely mimic the human retinal capabilities in simultaneously sensing and processing images. We then network the sensor with a large-scale Pt/Ta/Hf O_(2)/Ta one-transistor-one-resistor(1 T1 R)memristive crossbar, which plays a similar role to the visual cortex in the human brain. The realized neuromorphic vision system allows for fast letter recognition and object tracking, indicating the capabilities of image sensing, processing and recognition in the full analog regime. Our work suggests that such a neuromorphic vision system may open up unprecedented opportunities in future visual perception applications. | Shuang Wang Chen-Yu Wang Pengfei Wang Cong Wang Zhu-An Li Chen Pan Yitong Dai Anyuan Gao Chuan Liu Jian Liu Huafeng Yang Xiaowei Liu Bin Cheng Kunji Chen Zhenlin Wang Kenji Watanabe Takashi Taniguchi Shi-Jun Liang Feng Miao | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,2: | 5
A Self-Powered Breath Analyzer Based on PANI/PVDF Piezo-Gas-Sensing Arrays for Potential Diagnostics Application显示文摘The increasing morbidity of internal diseases poses serious threats to human health and quality of life.Exhaled breath analysis is a noninvasive and convenient diagnostic method to improve the cure rate of patients. In this study, a self-powered breath analyzer based on polyaniline/polyvinylidene fluoride(PANI/PVDF) piezogas-sensing arrays has been developed for potential detection of several internal diseases. The device works by converting exhaled breath energy into piezoelectric gassensing signals without any external power sources. The five sensing units in the device have different sensitivities to various gas markers with concentrations ranging from 0 to 600 ppm. The working principle can be attributed to the coupling of the in-pipe gas-flow-induced piezoelectric effect of PVDF and gas-sensing properties of PANI electrodes. In addition, the device demonstrates its use as an ethanol analyzer to roughly mimic fatty liver diagnosis. This new approach can be applied to fabricating new exhaled breath analyzers and promoting the development of self-powered systems. | Yongming Fu Haoxuan He Tianming Zhao Yitong Dai Wuxiao Han Jie Ma Lili Xing Yan Zhang Xinyu Xue | 2018 | Nano-Micro Letters2018,10,4: | 4
Nanoparticle accumulation in liver may induce resistance to immune checkpoint blockade therapy显示文摘Despite immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)therapy has transformed cancer treatment, only 20.2%of these patients achieved a response.Understanding resistance mechanisms to ICB is important for the treatment of a wider population. In this work,we occasionally found that the silica nanoparticles(SiO_(2)NPs)accumulated in the liver can induce resistance to following ICB therapy to a subcutaneous tumor in mice.By analysis of T cells frequency,we uncovered that SiO_(2)NPs in the liver resulted in a siphoning of T cells from circulation to the liver by produced chemokines. In addition, liver immunosuppressive cells further inhibit the function and induce apoptosis of recruited T cells, leading to a systemic loss and reduced tumor infiltration of T cells, which contributes to poor responses to ICB therapy. However, such effect is not observed in poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)NPs treated mice under the same conditions, likely due to their much lower immunogenicity in perturbing the liver immune microenvironment, indicating that cancer is not a local disease but an ecosystem that is linked to the distal environment. We further provide a new mechanism insight into ICB resistance induced by liver accumulation of nanoparticles. | Huaxing Dai Qianyu Yang Rong Sun Yue Zhang Qingle Ma Yifan Shen Beilei Wang Yitong Chen Jialu Xu Bo Tian Fang Xu Chao Wang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,4: | 1
Preparation and Evaluations of Ibuprofen Thermosensitive in situ Gel显示文摘[Objectives] To prepare Ibuprofen-β-CD for thermosensitive in situ gel administration to achieve a slow drug release. [Methods]By saturation solution process, the best inclusion technology was screened out with orthogonal design. [Results]The prescription of in situ gel contained ibuprofen-β-CD complex, poloxamer P407,P188,and HPMCK4M( w/v 10%,18%,3%,and 0. 5%). The gelation temperature of ibuprofen gel was 34. 6 ± 0. 3℃. The viscosity of ibuprofen gel increased significantly above 35℃ and showed semi-solid attribute. [Conclusions] The release of ibuprofen from in situ gel was slow and stable in 96 h,demonstrated a proximate zero order release between 24 h and 96 h. | Miao YU Shangcong HAN Jialing DAI Jiao LIU Chen WEI Yitong LI Lutao JIANG Yong SUN | 2017 | Medicinal Plant2017,8,2: | 0
OCT4’s role and mechanism underlying oral squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC),a common malignancy of the head and neck, ranks sixth worldwide in terms of cancers with the most negative impact, owing to tumor relapse rates, cervical lymphnode metastasis, and the lack of an efficacious systemic therapy. Its prognosis is poor, and its mortality rate is high.Octamer-binding transcription factor 4(OCT4)is a member of the Pit-Oct-Unc(POU)family and is a key reprogramming factor that produces a marked effect in preserving the pluripotency and self-renewal state of embryonic stem cells(ESCs).According to recent studies,OCT4 participates in retaining the survival of OSCC cancer stem cells(CSCs),which has far-reaching implications for the occurrence, recurrence, metastasis, and prognosis of oral carcinogenesis. Therefore,we summarize the structure, subtypes, and function of OCT4 as well as its role in the occurrence, progression, and prognosis of OSCC. | Yuwei DAI Ziqiong WU Yitong CHEN Xinjian YE Chaowei WANG Huiyong ZHU | 2023 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2023,24,9: | 0
