1Pseudolymphoma of the liver associated with primary biliary cirrhosis:A case report and review of literature显示文摘We report a case of two pseudolymphomas of the liver in a 63-year-old Japanese woman with primary biliary cirrhosis.One of the lesions was found incidentally during a medical examination,presenting as a 10 mm hypodense nodule that revealed hyperdensity in the early phase and hypodensity in the late phase in computed tomography(CT)after injection of contrast medium.Retrospectively,the 10 mm nodule had first been discovered as a 4 mm nodule during CT 4 years previously.Superparamagnetic iron oxide-enhanced MRI revealed another 4 mm hyperintense nodule in segment 6 in addition to the 10 mm hyperintense nodule in segment 7.CT during arterial portography revealed two hypointense nodules.Findings with other imaging modalities such as ultrasonography,magnetic resonance imaging,and hepatic angiography were consistent with hepatocellular carcinoma.A right posterior segmentectomy was performed,and the lesions were microscopically diagnosed as pseudolymphoma.To the best of our knowledge,only 31 other cases of this disease have ever been reported,with a highly asymmetrical male:female ratio of 1:9.7.Although we could find only one case of transformation of hepaticpseudolymphoma into lymphoma in the liver,the exact nature of development from benign pseudolymphoma to malignant lymphoma is still not fully understood and cases of hepatic lymphoma need to be followed carefully.Toshihide Okada Hiroshi Mibayashi Kenkei Hasatani Yoshiaki Hayashi Shigetsugu Tsuji Yoshibumi Kaneko Masashi Yoshimitsu Takashi Tani Yoh Zen Masakazu Yamagishi 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,36:8
2Characterization of CD133^+ parenchymal cells in the liver:Histology and culture显示文摘AIM:To reveal the characteristics of CD133+ cells in the liver.METHODS:This study examined the histological characteristics of CD133+ cells in non-neoplastic and neoplastic liver tissues by immunostaining,and also analyzed the biological characteristics of CD133+ cells derived from human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) or cholangiocarcinoma cell lines.RESULTS:Immunostaining revealed constant expression of CD133 in non-neoplastic and neoplastic biliary epithelium,and these cells had the immunophenotype CD133+/CK19+/HepPar-1-.A small number of CD133+/CK19-/HepPar-1+ cells were also identified in HCC and combined hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma.In addition,small ductal structures,resembling the canal of Hering,partly surrounded by hepatocytes were positive for CD133.CD133 expression was observed in three HCC(HuH7,PLC5 and HepG2) and two cholangiocarcinoma cell lines(HuCCT1 and CCKS1).Fluorescence-activated cell sorting(FACS) revealed that CD133+ and CD133-cells derived from HuH7 and HuCCT1 cells similarly produced CD133+ and CD133-cells during subculture.To examine the relationship between CD133+ cells and the side population(SP) phenotype,FACS was performed using Hoechst 33342 and a monoclonal antibody against CD133.The ratios of CD133+/CD133-cells were almost identical in the SP and non-SP in HuH7.In addition,four different cellular populations(SP/CD133+,SP/CD133-,non-SP/CD133+,and non-SP/CD133-) could similarly produce CD133+ and CD133-cells during subculture.CONCLUSION:This study revealed that CD133 could be a biliary and progenitor cell marker in vivo.However,CD133 alone is not sufficient to detect tumor-initiating cells in cell lines.Seiichi Yoshikawa Yoh Zen Takahiko Fujii Yasunori Sato Tetsuo Ohta Yutaka Aoyagi Yasuni Nakanuma 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,39:6

5Roles of sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling in angiogenesis显示文摘Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a blood-borne lipid mediator with pleiotropic biological activities. S1P acts via the specific cell surface G-protein-coupled receptors, S1P1-5. S1P1 and S1P2 were originally identified from vascular endothelial cells (ECs) and smooth muscle cells, respectively. Emerging evidence shows that S1P plays crucial roles in the regulation of vascular functions, including vascular formation, barrier protection and vascular tone via S1P1, S1P2 and S1P3. In particular, S1P regulates vascular formation through multiple mechanisms; S1P exerts both positive and negative effects on angiogenesis and vascular maturation. The positive and negative effects of S1P are mediated by S1P1 and S1P2, respectively. These effects of S1P1 and S1P2 are probably mediated by the S1P receptors expressed in multiple cell types including ECs and bone-marrow-derived cells. 6Response of Nitrogen Leaching to Nitrogen Deposition in Disturbed and Mature Forests of Southern China显示文摘Current nitrogen (N) leaching losses and their responses to monthly N additions were investigated under a disturbed pine (Pinus massoniana) forest and a mature monsoon broadleaf forest in southern China. N leaching losses from both disturbed and mature forests were quite high (14.6 and 29.2 kg N ha-1 year-1, respectively), accounting for 57% and 80% of their corresponding atmospheric N inputs. N leaching losses were substantially increased following the first 1.5 years of N applications in both forests. The average increases induced by the addition of 50 and 100 kg N ha-1 year-1 were 36.5 and 24.9 kg N ha-1 year-1, respectively, in the mature forest, accounting for 73.0% and 24.9% of the annual amount of N added, and 14.2 and 16.8 kg N ha-1 year-1 in the disturbed forest, accounting for 28.4% and 16.8% of the added N. Great N leaching and a fast N leaching response to N additions in the mature forest might result from long-term N accumulation and high ambient N deposition load (greater than 30 kg N ha-1 year-1 over the past 15 years), whereas in the disturbed forest, it might result from the human disturbance and high ambient N deposition load. 7Retroperitoneal disorders associated with Ig G4-related autoimmune pancreatitis显示文摘Ig G4-related autoimmune pancreatitis is frequently accompanied by relevant lesions in the genitourinary tract and retroperitoneal organs, which cause various clinical problems, ranging from non-specific back pain or bladder outlet obstruction to renal failure. The diagnosis of Ig G4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis requires a multidisciplinary approach, including serological tests, histological examination, imaging analysis, and susceptibility to steroid therapy. Radiological examinations are helpful to diagnose this condition, but surgical resection is occasionally unavoidable to exclude malignancy, particularly for patients with isolated retroperitoneal involvement. Steroid therapy is the treatment of choice for this condition, the same as for other manifestationsof Ig G4-related disease.For patients with severe ureteral obstruction,additional ureteral stenting needs to be considered prior to steroid therapy to preserve the renal function.Some papers have suggested that Ig G4-related disease can affect male reproductive organs including the prostate and testis.Ig G4-related prostatitis usually causes lower urinary tract symptoms,such as dysuria and pollakisuria.Patients sometimes state that corticosteroids given for Ig G4-related disease at other sites relieve their lower urinary tract symptoms,which leads us to suspect prostatic involvement in this condition.Because of the limited number of publications available,further studies are warranted to better characterize Ig G4-related disease in male reproductive organs.Noboru Hara Makoto Kawaguchi Keisuke Takeda Yoh Zen 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,44:4
8Temporal variability of iron concentrations and fractions in wetland waters in Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China显示文摘Chemical forms, reactivities and transformation of iron fractions in marshy waters were investigated with cross-flow filtration technique to study the iron environmental behavior. Iron fractions were divided into four parts: acid-labile iron (pre-acidification of unfiltered marshy water samples, > 0.7 μm), high-molecular-weight iron (0.7-0.05 μm), medium-molecular-weight iron (0.05-0.01 μm), and low-molecular-weight iron (< 0.01 μm). The cross-flow filtration suggested that iron primarily exist in both the > 0.7 μm and < 0.01 μm size fractions in marshy waters. Rainfall is the key for rain-fed wetland to determine fate of iron by changing the aquatic biochemical conditions. By monitoring the variation of iron concentrations and fractions over three years, it was found that dissolved iron and acid-labile iron concentrations exhibit a large variation extent under different annual rainfalls from 2006 to 2008. The seasonal variation for iron species proved that the surface temperature could control some conversion reactions of iron in marshy waters. Low- molecular-weight iron would convert to acid-labile iron gradually with temperature decreasing. The photochemical reactions of iron fractions, especially low-molecular-weight iron had occurred under solar irradiation. 9Effects of land use and changes in cover on the transformation and transportation of iron:A case study of the Sanjiang Plain,Northeast China显示文摘Wetland reclamation has been ongoing in the Sanjiang Plain since the mid-1950s,which has resulted in major changes in wetlands and the agriculture ecosystem in the region that have influenced the iron output to the Sea of Okhotsk and limited the primary productivity in the North Pacific Ocean.This study was conducted to investigate the chemical forms of iron in different aquatic environments(agricultural water including groundwater,paddy water,and canal water;wetland water including marsh water,marsh streams,and main streams) with the cross-flow filtration method to reveal the transportation and transformation characteristics of iron in response to major land use changes.In addition,the factors affecting iron behavior in different water bodies were reviewed.In marsh water and streams,the concentrations of dissolved iron were higher due to the high organic matter contents and marsh water becoming the main iron source for river water.The conversion of dissolved iron into acid-labile iron occurred during the discharge of wetland water into marsh rivers.Iron primarily existed in both the >0.7 and <0.01 μm size fractions,accounting for about 58.3% and 26.4% of the total dissolved iron,respectively.In agricultural irrigation systems,ferrous ion entered the paddy fields from groundwater,and a fraction of this ferrous iron was subsequently converted into high molecular weight and medium molecular weight iron(colloid iron) in paddy and canal water.However,the concentrations of total dissolved iron decreased by 62.5% from underground to the surface due to the formation of precipitates.Despite this,water discharge in agriculture is still an important iron source for rivers and has the potential to supplement iron due to its higher acid-labile iron concentrations.Land use and cover change and agricultural irrigation increased the iron content of surface soil,but reduced the output of iron in water systems.Overall,the concentration of total dissolved iron in water systems has been reduced to 42.6% by wetland reclamation.PAN XiaoFeng YAN BaiXing Yoh MUNEOKI 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5:4

16Lack of evidence for leukocyte maternal microchimerism in primary biliary cirrhosis显示文摘It is reasonable to assume that microchimerism could also be involved in the induction of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). However, previous reports investigated only fetus-microchimerism in women patients. Maternal microchimerism has not been investigated until now.The current study aimed to clear either maternal microchimerism was involved in the pathogenesis of PBC or not.METHODS: We used fluorescence in situ hybridization on paraffin-embedded tissue (We called 'Tissue-FiSH'.) to determine whether maternal cells infiltrated in male patients who were diagnosed as having PBC. Tissue-FiSH was performed by using both X and Y specific probes on the biopsy liver sample of 3 male PBC patients.RESULTS: Infiltrating lymphocytes demonstrated both X and Y signals in all 3 male patients.CONCLUSION: Maternal microchimerism dose not play asignificant role in PBC.
