1Ulva prolifera green-tide outbreaks and their environmental impact in the Yellow Sea, China显示文摘The Ulva prolifera green tides in the Yellow Sea, China, which have been occurring since 2007, are a serious environmental problem attracting worldwide attention. Despite extensive research, the outbreak mechanisms have not been fully understood. Comprehensive analysis of anthropogenic and natural biotic and abiotic factors reveals that human activities, regional physicochemical conditions and algal physiological characteristics as well as ocean warming and biological interactions(with microorganism or other macroalgae) are closely related to the occurrence of green tides. Dynamics of these factors and their interactions could explain why green tides suddenly occurred in 2007 and decreased abruptly in 2017.Moreover, the consequence of green tides is serious. The decay of macroalgal biomass could result in hypoxia and acidification, possibly induce red tide and even have a long-lasting impact on coastal carbon cycles and the ecosystem. 2Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). 3Refreezing of cast-in-place piles under various engineering conditions显示文摘In the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Power Transmission Line(QTPTL), cast-in-place piles(CIPPs) are widely applied in areas with unfavorable geological conditions. The thermal regime around piles in permafrost regions greatly affects the stability of the towers as well as the operation of the QTPTL. The casting of piles will markedly affect the thermal regime of the surrounding permafrost because of the casting temperature and the hydration heat of cement. Based on the typical geological and engineering conditions along the QTPTL, thermal disturbance of a CIPP to surrounding permafrost under different casting seasons, pile depths, and casting temperatures were simulated. The results show that the casting season(summer versus winter) can influence the refreezing process of CIPPs, within the first 6 m of pile depth. Sixty days after being cast, CIPPs greater than 6 m in depth can be frozen regardless of which season they were cast, and the foundation could be refrozen after a cold season. Comparing the refreezing characteristics of CIPPs cast in different seasons also showed that, without considering the ground surface conditions, warm seasons are more suitable for casting piles. With the increase of pile depth, the thermal effect of a CIPP on the surrounding soil mainly expands vertically, while the lateral heat disturbance changes little. Deeper, longer CIPPs have better stability. The casting temperature clearly affects the thermal disturbance, and the radius of the melting circle increases with rising casting temperature. 4High-quality de novo assembly of the Eucommia ulmoides haploid genome provides new insights into evolution and rubber biosynthesis显示文摘We report the acquisition of a high-quality haploid chromosome-scale genome assembly for the first time in a tree species,Eucommia ulmoides,which is known for its rubber biosynthesis and medicinal applications.The assembly was obtained by applying PacBio and Hi–C technologies to a haploid that we specifically generated.Compared to the initial genome release,this one has significantly improved assembly quality.The scaffold N50(53.15 MB)increased 28-fold,and the repetitive sequence content(520 Mb)increased by 158.24 Mb,whereas the number of gaps decreased from 104,772 to 128.A total of 92.87%of the 26,001 predicted protein-coding genes identified with multiple strategies were anchored to the 17 chromosomes.A new whole-genome duplication event was superimposed on the earlierγpaleohexaploidization event,and the expansion of long terminal repeats contributed greatly to the evolution of the genome.The more primitive rubber biosynthesis of this species,as opposed to that in Hevea brasiliensis,relies on the methylerythritol-phosphate pathway rather than the mevalonate pathway to synthesize isoprenyl diphosphate,as the MEP pathway operates predominantly in trans-polyisoprene-containing leaves and central peels.Chlorogenic acid biosynthesis pathway enzymes were preferentially expressed in leaves rather than in bark.This assembly with higher sequence contiguity can foster not only studies on genome structure and evolution,gene mapping,epigenetic analysis and functional genomics but also efforts to improve E.ulmoides for industrial and medical uses through genetic engineering.Yun Li Hairong Wei Jun Yang Kang Du Jiang Li Ying Zhang Tong Qiu Zhao Liu Yongyu Ren Lianjun Song Xiangyang Kang 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:7
5Carbon sequestration processes and mechanisms in coastal mariculture environments in China显示文摘China is the global leader in mariculture production. Increasing sequestered marine carbon(also known as blue carbon) via mariculture activities is a promising approach for mitigating climate change and promoting the development of a low-carbon economy. Mariculture blue carbon is also considered an important component of China's 'sea granary'. In addition to shellfish and macroalgae yields, which represent carbon removed from mariculture environment, blue carbon also includes other important components, which have been largely neglected in the past, such as the carbon transformed by microbes,dissolved organic carbon(mainly referred to as recalcitrant dissolved organic carbon), and sedimentary particulate carbon. Hence,from different aspects, a comprehensive study on the formation processes and mechanisms of carbon sequestration is of great significance for comprehensively unveiling the carbon sequestration capability in coastal mariculture environment, which will contribute to the sustainable development of the fishery economy and construction of an ecological civilization. 6Blunted nitric oxide regulation in Tibetans under high-altitude hypoxia显示文摘Nitric oxide(NO) is an important molecule for vasomotor tone, and elevated NO signaling was previously hypothesized as a unique and adaptive physiological change in highland Tibetans. However, there has been lack of NO data from Tibetans living at low altitude and lowlander immigrants living at high altitude, which is crucial to test this hypothesis. Here, through cross-altitude(1990–5018 m) and cross-population(Tibetans and Han Chinese) analyses of serum NO metabolites(NOx) of 2086 individuals, we demonstrate that although Tibetans have a higher serum NOx level compared to lowlanders, Han Chinese immigrants living at high altitude show an even higher level than Tibetans. Consequently, our data contradict the previous proposal of increased NO signaling as the unique adaptive strategy in Tibetans.Instead, Tibetans have a relatively lower circulating NOx level at high altitude. This observation is further supported by data from the hypoxic experiments using human umbilical vein endothelial cells and gene knockout mice. No difference is detected between Tibetans and Han Chinese for endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOS), the key enzyme for circulating NO synthesis, suggesting that e NOS itself is unlikely to be the cause. We show that other NO synthesis-related genes(e.g. GCH1) carry Tibetan-enriched mutations significantly associated with the level of circulating NOx in Tibetans. 7Feature extraction method of hyperspectral scattering images for prediction of total viable count in pork meat显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the capabilities of hyperspectral scattering imaging in tandem with Gaussian function,Exponential function and Lorentzian function for rapid and nondestructive determination of total viable count(TVC)in pork meat.Two batches of fresh pork meat was purchased from a local market and stored at 10°C for 1-9 d.Totally 60 samples were used,and several samples were taken out randomly for hyperspectral scattering imaging and conventional microbiological tests on each day of the experiments.The functions of Gaussian,Exponential and Lorentzian were employed to model the hyperspectral scattering profiles of pork meat,and good fitting results were obtained by all three functions between 455 nm and 1000 nm.The Lorentzian function performed best for fitting the hyperspectral scattering profiles of pork meat compared with other functions.Both principal component regression(PCR)and partial least squares regression(PLSR)methods were performed to establish the prediction models.Among all the developed models,the models developed using parameters CE(scattering width parameter of Exponential function)and CL(scattering width parameter of Lorentzian function)by PLSR method gave superior results for predicting pork meat TVC,with RV and RMSEV of 0.92,0.59 log CFU/g,and 0.91,0.61 log CFU/g,respectively.In addition,based on the improved hyperspectral scattering system,parameter c which represented the scattering widths in all three functions gave more accurate prediction results,regardless of the modeling methods(PCR or PLSR).The obtained results demonstrated that hyperspectral scattering imaging combined with the presented data analysis algorithm can be a powerful tool for evaluating the microbial safety of meat in the future.Tao Feifei Peng Yankun Li Yongyu 2015International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2015,8,4:5

10Sap flow characteristics of three afforestation species during the wet and dry seasons in a dry-hot valley in Southwest China显示文摘Assessing and using tree species(exotic or native) with superior tolerance to environmental stresses(such as drought and high temperature) play an important role in afforestation practices. In the present study, stem sap flow characteristics and responses to ambient meteorological factors of three tree species, Albizzia kalkora(native), Azadirachta indica(exotic), and Acacia auriculaeformis(exotic), in a dry-hot valley(Yuanmou, Yunnan Province, China) were investigated using thermal dissipation probes. The diurnal dynamics of sap flow in three studied species displayed an obvious circadian rhythm during the wet and dry seasons, with the exception of A.indica during the dry season. The sap flow velocity(SFV)in A. kalkora and A. auriculaeformis was significantly positively correlated with photosynthetically active radiation(PAR), air temperature, vapour pressure deficit(VPD)and wind speed, but negatively correlated with atmosphericrelative humidity over the two seasons. The cross-correlation analysis also revealed that the SFV of the three species was significantly correlated with PAR and VPD(P<0.001). Additionally, stem sap flow lagged behind PAR but ahead of VPD, and the diurnal sap flow was more dependent on PAR than on VPD. However, we found that the dominant climatic factor influencing the stem sap flow differed between daytime and nighttime. PAR was more influential than other meteorological factors during the daytime, while VPD or other factors were more influential overnight. 11Technologies and applications of silicon-based micro-optical electromechanical systems:A brief review显示文摘Micro-optical electromechanical systems(MOEMS)combine the merits of micro-electromechanical systems(MEMS)and micro-optics to enable unique optical functions for a wide range of advanced applications.Using simple external electromechanical control methods,such as electrostatic,magnetic or thermal effects,Si-based MOEMS can achieve precise dynamic optical modulation.In this paper,we will briefly review the technologies and applications of Si-based MOEMS.Their basic working principles,advantages,general materials and micromachining fabrication technologies are introduced concisely,followed by research progress of advanced Si-based MOEMS devices,including micromirrors/micromirror arrays,micro-spectrometers,and optical/photonic switches.Owing to the unique advantages of Si-based MOEMS in spatial light modulation and high-speed signal processing,they have several promising applications in optical communications,digital light processing,and optical sensing.Finally,future research and development prospects of Si-based MOEMS are discussed.Shanshan Chen Yongyue Zhang Xiaorong Hong Jiafang Li 2022Journal of Semiconductors2022,43,8:2

14Global COVID-19 Pandemic Waves: Limited Lessons Learned Worldwide over the Past Year显示文摘The occurrence of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)was followed by a small burst of cases around the world;afterward,due to a series of emergency non-pharmaceutical interventions(NPIs),the increas-ing number of confirmed cases slowed down in many countries.However,the lifting of control measures by the government and the public’s loosening of precautionary behaviors led to a sudden increase in cases,arousing deep concern across the globe.arousing deep concern across the globe.This study evaluates the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in countries and territories worldwide from January 2020 to February 2021.According to the time-varying reproduction number(R(t))of each country or territory,the results show that almost half of the countries and territories in the world have never controlled the epidemic.Among the countries and territories that had once contained the occurrence,nearly half failed to maintain their prevention and control,causing the COVID-19 pandemic to rebound across the world—resulting in even higher waves in half of the rebounding countries or territories.This work also proposes and uses a time-varying country-level transmission risk score(CTRS),which takes into account both R(t)and daily new cases,to demonstrate country-level or territory-level transmission potential and trends.Time-varying hierarchical clustering of time-varying CTRS values was used to successfully reveal the countries and territories that contributed to the recent aggravation of the global pandemic in the last quarter of 2020 and the beginning of 2021,and to identify countries and territories with an increasing risk of COVID-19 transmission in the near future.Furthermore,a regression analysis indicated that the introduction and relaxation of NPIs,including workplace closure policies and stay-at-home requirements,appear to be associated with recent global transmission changes.In conclu-sion,a systematic evaluation of the global COVID-19 pandemic over the past year indicates that the world is now in an unexpected situation,with limited lessons learned.Summarizing the lessons learned could help in designing effective public responses for constraining future waves of COVID-19 worldwide.Yongyue Wei Jinxing Guan Xiao Ning Yuelin Li Liangmin Wei Sipeng Shen Ruyang Zhang Yang Zhao Hongbing Shen Feng Chen 2022Engineering2022,8,6:1

16Detection of chlorpyrifos in apples using gold nanoparticles based on surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy显示文摘In this study,gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)were synthesized for rapid and sensitive characterization and quantification of chlorpyrifos in apples.Min-max signal adaptive zooming and second derivative transformation method were adopted to pre-process Raman spectral signal.The min-max signal adaptive zooming method showed a higher correlation coefficient than derivative transformation when developing linear calibration curve between chlorpyrifos pesticide and Raman spectral peak intensity.The present method had a high reproducibility with the relative standard deviation less than 15%.Regression models showed a good linear relationship(R=0.962)between intensity of characteristic spectral peaks(at 677 cm-1)and chlorpyrifos concentration on whole apples ranging from 0.13 mg/kg to 7.59 mg/kg.The application of surface enhancement Raman spectroscopy(SERS)detected chlorpyrifos pesticide to the detection limit of 0.13 mg/kg,which can be applied further for lower concentration in the future.The method presented in this study can provide a way-out for detection of pesticide residue in whole apple to trace amount.Zhai Chen Li Yongyu Peng Yankun Xu Tianfeng 2015International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2015,8,5:1
