1A Chromosome-Scale Genome Assembly of Paper Mulberry(Bmussonetia papyrifera)Provides New Insights into Its Forage and Papermaking Usage显示文摘Paper mulberry(Broussonetia papyrifera)is a well-known woody tree historically used for Cai Lun papermaking,one of the four great inventions of ancient China.More recently,Paper mulberry has also been used as forage to address the shortage of feedstuff because of its digestible crude fiber and high protein contents.In this study,we obtained a chromosome-scale genome assembly for Paper mulberry using integrated approaches,including Illumina and PacBio sequencing platform as well as Hi-C,optical,and genetic maps.The assembled Paper mulberry genome consists of 386.83 Mb,which is close to the estimated size,and 99.25%(383.93 Mb)of the assembly was assigned to 13 pseudochromosomes.Comparative genomic analysis revealed the expansion and contraction in the flavonoid and lignin biosynthetic gene families,respectively,accounting for the enhanced flavonoid and decreased lignin biosynthesis in Paper mulberry.Moreover,the increased ratio of syringyl-lignin to guaiacyl-lignin in Paper mulberry underscores its suitability for use in medicine,forage,papermaking,and barkcloth making.We also identified the rootassociated microbiota of Paper mulberry and found that Pseudomonas and Rhizobia were enriched in its roots and may provide the source of nitrogen for its stems and leaves via symbiotic nitrogen fixation.Collectively,these results suggest that Paper mulberry might have undergone adaptive evolution and recruited nitrogen-fixing microbes to promote growth by enhancing flavonoid production and altering lignin monomer composition.Our study provides significant insights into genetic basis of the usefulness of Paper mulberry in papermaking and barkcloth making,and as forage.These insights will facilitate further domestication and selection as well as industrial utilization of Paper mulberry worldwide.Xianjun Peng Hui Liu Peilin Chen Feng Tang Yanmin Hu Fenfen Wang Zhi Pi Meiling Zhao Naizhi Chen Hui Chen Xiaokang Zhang Xueqing Yan Min Liu Xiaojun Fu Guofeng Zhao Pu Yao Lili Wang He Dai Xuming Li Wei Xiong Wencai Xu Hongkun Zheng Haiyan Yu Shihua Shen 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,5:18
2Effects of temperature and organic and inorganic nutrients on the growth of Chattonella marina (Raphidophyceae)from the Daya Bay,South China Sea显示文摘The effects of temperature and different forms of nutrients on Chattonella marina growth have been investigated in strains isolated from the Daya Bay,the South China Sea.The strain of C.marina preferred high temperatures, with an optimal temperature of 25°C,and 18 °C was the minimum for its survival.Higher cell number and growth rate were obtained in high nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations (500 μ g/L, 74 μ g/L) than under nutrient limitation.Nitrogen influenced the growth most, as the specific growth rate and maximum cell density were lower in nitrogen-limited cultures than noted under phosphorus limitation or under limitation from both.C.marina was capable of using many kinds of organic nitrogen sources including L-serine (L-Ser),glycine (Gly),alanine (Ala),L-threonine (L-Thr), glutamic acid (Glu) and urea, but could not utilize uric acid.Various forms of organic phosphorus compound such as glucose-6-phosphate (G6P),sodium glycerophosphate (GYP),adenosine triphosphate (ATP),adenosine monophosphate (AMP),cytidine monophosphate (CMP),guanosine monophosphate (GMP),uridine monophosphate (UMP),4-nitrophenylphosphate (NPP) and triethyl phosphate (TEP) supported the growth as well. 4Optimization of microstructures and magnetic properties of Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.227)Cu_(0.07)Zr_(0.023))_(7.6) magnets by sintering treatment显示文摘Magnetic properties and microstructures of Sm(Co_(bal)Fe_(0.227)Cu_(0.07)Zr_(0.023_)_(7.6) sintered magnets were optimized by sintering treatment. Results show that the knee-point magnetic field, Hknee, is twofold up and the intrinsic coercivity Hcjincreases by 40%, ranging from 21.64 to 30.39 kOe at the cost of a little decrease of Brfrom 10.84 to 10.31 kGs with sintering temperature decreasing from 1488 to 1473 K. And the average domain width is narrower and more uniform for the specimen sintered at 1473 K than that of the specimen sintered at 1488 K. It is impressive that the density of lamellar phase increases from ~0.050 to ~0.058 nm^(-1) with the sintering temperature decreasing from 1488 to 1473 K. Moreover, the average cellular size is about ~84 nm for the magnets sintered at 1473 K, which is 80% of that of the magnets sintered at 1488 K(~97 nm). And the cell boundary width of the magnets sintered at 1473 K(~7 nm) is only half average width of the magnets sintered at 1488 K(~14 nm). It is found that the Cu content in the cell boundaries is much higher(~17 at%) in the magnets sintered at 1473 K compared to that of the magnets sintered at 1488 K(~10 at%). 5Latent fingerprint enhancement on conductive substrates using electrodeposition of copper显示文摘We presented a novel method for the development of a latent fingerprint by selective electrodeposition of a copper thin film from sulfate solution onto the conductive substrate between fingerprint ridges to generate a negative image of the fingerprint deposit. After optimizing the parameters(deposition time, deposition potential, and copper concentration), the preferential electrodeposition of copper films allowed latent fingerprints on six kinds of conductive surfaces(indium/tin oxide-coated glass, silver sheet, platinum sheet, gold sheet, copper sheet, and a stainless steel coin) to be successfully developed with high resolution. In addition, this technique could also be exploited to visualize latent fingerprints on rough and dirty surfaces. 6Phylogenetic relationships and estimation of divergence times among Sisoridae catfishes显示文摘Nineteen taxa representing 10 genera of Sisoridae were subjected to phylogenetic analyses of sequence data for the nuclear genes Plagl2 and ADNP and the mitochondrial gene cytochrome b. The three data sets were analyzed separately and combined into a single data set to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships among Chinese sisorids. Both Chinese Sisoridae as a whole and the glyptosternoid taxa formed monophyletic groups. The genus Pseudecheneis is likely to be the earliest diverging extant genus among the Chinese Sisoridae. The four Pareuchiloglanis species included in the study formed a monophyletic group. Glaridoglanis was indicated to be earliest diverging glyptosternoid, followed by Glyptosternon maculatum and Exostoma labiatum. Our data supported the conclusion that Oreoglanis and Pseudexostoma both formed a monophyletic group. On the basis of the fossil record and the results of a molecular dating analysis, we estimated that the Sisoridae diverged in the late Miocene about 12.2 Mya. The glyptosternoid clade was indicated to have diverged, also in the late Miocene, about 10.7 Mya, and the more specialized glyptosternoid genera, such as Pareuchiloglanis, originated in the Pleistocene (within 1.9 Mya). 7PECTATE LYASE-LIKE10 is associated with pollen wall development in Brassica campestris显示文摘PECTATE LYASE‐LIKE10(PLL10) was previously identified as one of the differentially expressed genes both in microspores during the late pollen developmental stages and in pistils during the fertilization process in Chinese cabbage(Brassica campestris ssp. chinensis). Here, antisense‐RNA was used to study the functions of BcPLL10 in Chinese cabbage. Abnormal pollen was identified in the transgenic lines(bcpll10‐4, ‐5, and ‐6). In fertilization experiments, fewer seeds were harvested when the antisense‐RNA lines were used as pollen donor. In vivo and in vitro pollen germination assays less germinated pollen tubes were observed in bcpll10 lines. Scanning electron microscopy observation verified that the tryphine materials were over accumulated around the pollen surface and sticked them together in bcpll10.Moreover, transmission electron microscopy observation revealed that the internal endintine was overdeveloped and predominantly occupied the intine, and disturbed thenormal proportional distribution of the two layers in the non‐germinal furrow region; and no obvious demarcation existed between them in the germinal furrow region in the bcpll10 pollen. 8Precision Phenotyping Reveals Novel Loci for Quantitative Resistance to Septoria Tritici Blotch显示文摘Accurate,high-throughput phenotyping for quantitative traits is a limiting factor for progress in plant breeding.We developed an automated image analysis to measure quantitative resistance to septoria tritici blotch(STB),a globally important wheat disease,enabling identification of small chromosome intervals containing plausible candidate genes for STB resistance.335 winter wheat cultivars were included in a replicated field experiment that experienced natural epidemic development by a highly diverse but fungicide-resistant pathogen population.More than 5.4 million automatically generated phenotypes were associated with 13,648 SNP markers to perform the GWAS.We identified 26 chromosome intervals explaining 1.9-10.6%of the variance associated with four independent resistance traits.Sixteen of the intervals overlapped with known STB resistance intervals,suggesting that our phenotyping approach can identify simultaneously(i.e.,in a single experiment)many previously defined STB resistance intervals.Seventeen of the intervals were less than 5 Mbp in size and encoded only 173 genes,including many genes associated with disease resistance.Five intervals contained four or fewer genes,providing high priority targets for functional validation.Ten chromosome intervals were not previously associated with STB resistance,perhaps representing resistance to pathogen strains that had not been tested in earlier experiments.The SNP markers associated with these chromosome intervals can be used to recombine different forms of quantitative STB resistance that are likely to be more durable than pyramids of major resistance genes.Our experiment illustrates how high-throughput automated phenotyping can accelerate breeding for quantitative disease resistance.Steven Yates Alexey Mikaberidze Simon GKrattinger Michael Abrouk Andreas Hund Kang Yu Bruno Studer Simone Fouche Lukas Meile Danilo Pereira Petteri Karisto Bruce A.McDonald 2019Plant Phenomics2019,1,1:2

17IncR26319/miR-2834/EndophilinA axis regulates oogenesis of the silkworm,Bombyx mori显示文摘Oocyte maturation is critical for insect reproduction.Vitellogenesis,the timely production and uptake of vitellogenin(Vg),is crucial for female fecundity.Vg is synthesized in fat body and absorbed by the oocytes through endocytosis during insect oogenesis.In the silkworm,Bombyx mori,we discovered that a nucleus-enriched long-noncoding RNA(lncRNA)lncR26319 regulates Endophilin A(EndoA)-a member of the endophilin family of endocytic proteins-through competitive binding to miR-2834.The lncR26319-miR-2834-EndoA axis was required for Vg endocytosis in the silkworm;loss of EndoA or overexpression ofmiR-2834significantlyreduced eggnumbers invirginmoths.Inaddition,accumulation of miR-2834 resulted in pupal and adult deformation and reduced fecundity in females.The expression of Vg,30-kDa(30K)protein,and egg-specific protein(Esp)decreased after knockdown of EndoA or overexpression of miR-2834,while knockdown of miR-2834 had an opposite effect on the expression of Vg,30K protein gene,and Esp.These results suggest that the lncR26319-miR-2834-EndoA axis contributes to the endocytic activity in theVguptake and leads to the normal progression of oogenesis in the silkworm.Thus,miR-2834 and EndoA are crucial for female reproduction and could be potential targets for new pest management strategies in lepidopterans.Yi Wang Yu Fu Hao Chena Chenyue Zhao Qunxia Huang Meiling Chang Wujie Qiu Yawen Shen Dandan Li 2023Insect Science2023,30,1:1

20Electrochemically prepared coniferous leaf-like nickel black membrane for desalination by solar-thermal energy conversion显示文摘The structures of the solar-thermal membranes always influence the performance of light absorption and salt resistance in desalination.Inspired by the hierarchical structure of the coniferous leaves with excellent sunlight absorption in frigid regions,a coniferous leaf-like nickel black(L-Ni)membrane for desalination by solar-thermal energy conversion was prepared through electroplating method under a constant voltage.The light trapping effect of coniferous leaf-like structure led to the light absorption enhanced to 92%,the evaporation rate improved to 1.38 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1),and the solar-vapor conversion efficiency of L-Ni membrane reaching up to 89.75%under 1 sun irradiation.The stability of the membrane was still excellent after 20 cycles desalination because the coniferous leaf-like structure could enhance the hydrophobicity(water contact angle:152°)of the L-Ni membrane,and it was beneficial to salt resistance.The promising performance of L-Ni membrane with coniferous leaf-like structure provides a possibility to replace the noble metal solar-thermal conversion materials.Dongmin Yue Bingbing Li De Sun Hao Zhang Meiling Liu Jingtong Yu 2023Nano Research2023,16,7:1
