| 1 | In Search of the Cretaceous-Tertiary Boundary in Heilongjiang River Area of China显示文摘Abstract A new geological section recognized in Baishantou of Jiayin, Heilongjiang Province, China, was studied preliminarily in searching for the K/T boundary. An early Paleocene florule characrerized by abundant Tiliaephyllum tsagajanicum leaves and its associated plants, was collected from the Baishantou Member (new member representing the lower part of the Paleocene Wuyun Formation) overlying the possible K/T boundary. A tuff bed was found from the upper part of the Furao Formation (uppermost Cretaceous) in this section. The new findings imply that the K/T boundary is probable lying in the interval between the base of the Baishantou Member and the tuff bed, based on the correlation of the present strata with the stratotype of the Tsagajan Group spanning the K/T boundary in 'Belaya Gara' of the Bureya Basin, Russia. The early Paleocene florule from the Baishantou Member and the early-middle Maastrichtian dinosaurs found from the Yuliangzi Formation underlying the Furao Formation suggest that the Baishantou section is more promising for searching for the K/T boundary in this area. Further studies of the section is needed, integrating paleontological, biostratigraphic, geochemical, paleomagnetic, and sedimentary research would benefit our understanding the mass extinction event and biotic recovery in the Heilongjiang River area, China, and even all of northeast Asia during the K/T boundary interval. | Sun G. | 7 | 采用新型Amplatzer膜VSD封堵器对膜周室间隔缺损行经导管封堵术:美国一期试验的结果显示文摘OBJECTIVES: This phase I study attempted to report the initial safety and efficacy results of transcatheter closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects(PmVSDs) using the new Amplatzer Membranous VSD Occluder(AGA Medical Corp., Golden Valley, Minnesota) in the U.S. BACKGROUND: The most common congenital heart disease is PmVSD. Surgical repair is widely accepted, but still carries a small but definite risk of morbidity and mortality. METHODS: Between October 2003 and August 2004, a total of 35 patients with PmVSD underwent an attempt of transcatheter closure under transesophageal and/or intracardiac echocardiographic guidance. The median age was 7.7 years(range, 1.2 to 54.4 years) and median weight was 25 kg(range, 8.3 to 110 kg). The median Qp/Qs ratio was 1.8(range, 1 to 4), and the median VSD size as assessed by echocardiography was 7 mm(range, 4 to 15 mm). RESULTS: The attempt to place a device was successful in 32 patients(91% ). The median device size used was 10 mm(range, 6 to 16 mm). The complete closure rates by echocardiography at 10 min(transesophageal/intracardiac), 24 h, 1 month, and 6 months(transthoracic) were 47% (15/32), 63% (20/32), 78% (25/32), and 96% (27/28), respectively. The median fluoroscopy time was 36 min(range, 14 to 191 min), and the median total procedure time was 121 min(range, 67 to 276 min). Three patients(8.6% ) had serious adverse events of complete heart block, peri-hepatic bleeding, and rupture of tricuspid valve chordae tendineae. No other patient encountered serious adverse events during the follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Transcatheter closure of a PmVSD is technically feasible and seems safe enough in children over 8 kg in weight to warrant continuation of clinical trials to assess the long-term safety and efficacy. | Bass J Amin Z. | 8 | AN IN SITU SURFACE COMPOSITE AND GRADIENT MATERIAL OF Al-Si ALLOY PRODUCED BY ELECTROMAGNETIC FORCE显示文摘Because of the different conductivities between the primary phase (low electric conduc tivity) and the metal melt, electromagnetic force scarcely acts on the primary phase. Thus, an electromagnetic repulsive force applied by the metal melt exerts on the pri mary phase when the movement of the melt in the direction of electromagnetic force is limited. As a result, the repulsive force exerts on the primary phase to push them to move in the direction opposite to that of the electromagnetic force when the metal melt with primary phase solidifies under an electromagnetic force field. Based on this, a new method for production of in situ surface composite and gradient material by electromagnetic force is proposed. An in situ primary Si reinforced surface composite of Al-15wt%Si alloy and gradient material of Al-l9wt%Si alloy were produced by this method. The microhardness of the primary Si is HV1320. The reinforced phase size is in the range from 40μm to 100μm. The wear resistance of Al-Si alloy gradient material can be more greatly increased than that of their matrix material. | Z.M. Xu, T.X. | 9 | THE ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD CALCULATION AND ANALYSIS OF LEVITATION MELTING WITH COLD CRUCIBLE显示文摘In this paper, using the quasi-3D coupled current method, the influences of structure of cold crucible, the power frequency, the electricity property of melt, the coil position and current on the electromagnetic field (EMF) and the levitation characteristics in the melting processes are analyzed. It is shown that in the processes of levitation melting with cold crucible, the power frequency and cold crucible structure are the decisive factors for the ability of magnetic flux penetrating into cold crucible. The magnetic flux density in cold crucible is reduced as the increasing of power frequency, and this tendency becomes stronger when the power frequency is higher than 100kHz. The segmented structure of cold crucible can reduce the induction eddy in itself effectively, and the higher the power frequency is, the better the result is. So, a cold crucible can be segmented into 16-20 sectors for high frequency electromagnetic field and/or 8-12 sectors for lower frequency one. | 10 | EFFECT OF ANNEALING ON DAMPING CAPACITIES OF AS-CAST ZA27 ALLOY显示文摘ZA27 alloy was prepared by casting with permanent mold and then annealed at 250℃ for 1-4h. The damping capacity of the alloy was measured using a testing apparatus based on the cantilever beam technique. It was found that the as-cast ZA27 alloy possesses high damping capacity with the value of 1.3 × 10-3 at 320Hz. After annealed at 250℃ for 1h, the damping capacity decreases to 1.1 × 10-3 and then remains constant even when the annealing time is increased to 4h. The microstructure of the as-cast ZA27 alloy consists of large dendrites of Al-rich primary (?)-phases, eutectoid (?) and nonequilibrium eutectic phases (?). After annealing at 250℃ for 1h, the (?)phase disappears due to dissolution into the matrix, and the spacing between the flakes of eutectoid increases. The further increase in the annealing time has little effect on the spacing. The damping mechanism of the alloy was discussed considering the thermoelastic damping and defect damping. The value of thermoelastic damping accounts only for 7%-8% in the overall damping in cantilever beam damping measurements and the damping capacity of the ZA27 alloy came mainly from defect damping. | Z.M. | 11 | A STEEL MATRIX WEAR RESISTANT COMPOSITE REINFORCED BY IN-SITU GRANULAR EUTECTICS显示文摘A new steel matrix wear resistant composite reinforced by in situ granular eutectics can be obtained by modifying with a Si-Ce-Ti compound in the steel melt. The result indicates that the in situ granular eutectic is a pseudo-eutectic of austenite and (Fe,Mn)3C, which is formed between austenite dendrites during solidification due to the segregation of C and Mn impelled by modifying elements. The quantity of in situ granular eutectic reaches up to 8%-12% and its grain size is in the range from 10um to 20um. The austenite steel matrix wear resistant composite reinforced by in situ granular eutectic (abbreviated AGE composite) and austenite-bainite steel mains wear resistant composite reinforced by in situ granular eutectic (abbreviated ABGE composite) are obtained in the as-cast state and by air hardening, respectively. | 16 | MONTE CARLO SIMULATION STUDY OF SURFACE ELECTRONIC EXCITATION OF NOBLE METALS显示文摘In this work we present a numerical simulation of REELS-spectrum for noble metals, Au and Ag. The calculation is based on an electron-surface inelastic scattering model previously developed. The differential inelastic cross section is obtained from an inhomogeneous electron self-energy in the surface region, which provides full information of the dependency of the total and differential cross section on the kinetic energy, the distance from the surface and the moving direction of electrons, accommodating the formulation to the practical situation in surface electron spectroscopes. A novel Monte Carlo simulation code of electron interaction with a surface incorporating the local scattering mean free path has been developed. The comparison of the simulated REELS-spectra with the experimental measurements shows a remarkable agreement on the spectrum shape, which then confirms that the present model for electron-surface inelastic scattering is quite reasonable. The simulation has further shown the component to surface excitation due to the individual scattering processes along trajectory part, i.e., the loss in vacuum before reflection, the loss in vacuum after reflection and loss in metal events. | H.M.
