| 3 | Growth inhibition and apoptosis induction Sulindac on Human gastric cancer cells显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effects of sulindac in inducing growth inhibition and apoptosis of human gastric cancer cells in comparison with human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)cells.METHODS: The human gastric cancer cell lines MKN45 and MKN28 and human hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines HepG2and SMMC7721 were used for the study. Anti-proliferative effect was measured by MTT assay, and apoptosis was determined by Hoechst-33258 staining, electronography and DNA fragmentation. The protein of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX(2) and Bcl-2 were detected by Westem dot blotting.RESULTS: Sulindac could initiate growth inhibition and apoptosis of MKN45, MKN28, HepG2 and SMMC7721 cells in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Growth inhibitory activity and apoptosis were more sensitive in HepG2 cells than in SMMC7721 cells, MKN45 and MKN28 cells. After 24hours incubation with sulindac at 2mmol. L-1 and 4mmol.L-1, the level of COX-2 and Bcl-2 protein were lowered in MKN45, SMMC7721 and HepG2 cells but not in MKN28 cells.CONCLUSION: Sulindac could inhibit the growth of gastric cancer cells and HCC cells effectively in vitro by apoptosis induction, which was associated with regression of COX-2and Bcl-2 expression. The growth inhibition and apoptosis of HCC cells were greater then that of human gastric cancer cells. | 4 | Induction of apoptosis by arsenic trioxide and hydroxycamptothecin in gastric cancer cells in vitro显示文摘AIM To study the effects of arsenic trioxide andHCPT on different degrees of differentiated gastriccancer cells(SGC-7901,MKN-45,MKN-28)withrespect to both cytotoxicity and induction ofapoptosis in vitro.METHODS The cytotoxicity of As2O3 and HCPTon gastric cancer cells was determined by MTTassay.Morphologic changes of apoptosis ofgastric cancer cells were observed by lightmicroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.Apoptosis and cell cycle changes of gastric cancercells induced by HCPT and As2O3 were investigatedby TUNEL method and flow cytometry.RESULTS As2O3 and HCPT had remarkablecytotoxic effects on different degrees ofdifferentiated gastric cancer cells.The IC50ofAs2O3 on well differentiated gastric cancer cellMKN-28,moderately differentiated gastric cancercell SGC-7901,and poorly differentiated gastriccancer cell MKN-28 were 8.91 μmol/L,10.57μmol/L,and 11.65 μmol/L,respectively.The IC50of HCPT on MKN-28,SGC-7901,and MKN-45 were9.35 mg/L,10.21 mg/L,and 12.63 mg/Lrespectively after 48 h treatment.After 12 h ofexposure to both drugs,gastric cancer cellsexhibited morphologic features of apoptosis,including cell shrinkage,nuclear condensation, and formation of apoptotic bodies.A typicalsubdiploid peak before G0/G1 phase was observedby flow cytometry.The apoptotic rates of SGC-7901,MKN-45,and MKN-28 were 13.84%,22.52%,and 9.68%,respectively after 48 hexposure to 10 μmol/L As2O3.The apoptotic ratesof SGC-7901,MKN-45,and MKN-28 were 21.88%,12.35%,and 30.26%,respectively after 48 hexposure to 10 mg/L HCPT.The apoptotic indicewere 7%-15% as assessed by TUNEL method.The effect of As2O3 on SGC-7901 showedremarkable cell cycle specificity,which inducedcell death in G1 phase,and blocked G2/M phase.HCPT also showed a remarkable cell cyclespecificity,by inducing cell death and apoptosis inG1 phase and arrest of proliferation at S phase.CONCLUSION As2O3 and HCPT exhibitsignificant cytotoxicity on gastric cancer cells byinduction of apoptosis.As2O3 and HCPT mighthave a promising prospect in the treatment ofgastric cancer,which needs to be further studied. | Tu SP Zhong J Tan JH Jiang XH Qiao MM Wu YX Jiang SH | 2000 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2000,6,4: | 43 |

| 6 | New vacuum solar telescope and observations with high resolution显示文摘The New Vacuum Solar Telescope(NVST) is a one meter vacuum solar telescope that aims to observe fine structures on the Sun. The main goals of NVST are high resolution imaging and spectral observations, including measurements of the solar magnetic field. NVST is the primary ground-based facility used by the Chinese solar research community in this solar cycle. It is located by Fuxian Lake in southwest China, where the seeing is good enough to perform high resolution observations. We first introduce the general conditions at the Fuxian Solar Observatory and the primary science cases of NVST. Then, the basic structures of this telescope and instruments are described in detail. | 7 | Review of risk factors for human echinococcosis prevalence on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China: a prospective for control options显示文摘Objective: Echinococcosis is a major parasitic zoonosis of public health importance in western China. In 2004, the Chinese Ministry of Health estimated that 380,000 people had the disease in the region. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is highly co-endemic with both alveolar echinococcosis (AE) and cystic echinococcosis (CE). In the past years, the Chinese government has been increasing the financial support to control the diseases in this region. Therefore, it is very important to identify the significant risk factors of the diseases by reviewing studies done in the region in the past decade to help policymakers design appropriate control strategies. Review: Selection criteria for which literature to review were firstly defined. Medline, CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), and Google Scholar were systematically searched for literature published between January 2000 and July 2011. Significant risk factors found by single factor and/or multiple factors analysis were listed, counted, and summarized. Literature was examined to check the comparability of the data;age and sex specific prevalence with same data structures were merged and used for further analysis. A variety of assumed social, economical, behavioral, and ecological risk factors were studied on the Plateau. Those most at risk were Tibetan herdsmen, the old and female in particular. By analyzing merged comparable data, it was found that females had a significant higher prevalence, and a positive linearity relationship existed between echinococcosis prevalence and increasing age. In terms of behavioral risk factors, playing with dogs was mostly correlated with CE and/or AE prevalence. In terms of hygiene, employing ground water as the drinking water source was significantly correlated with CE and AE prevalence. For definitive hosts, dog related factors were most frequently identified with prevalence of CE or/and AE;fox was a potential risk factor for AE prevalence only. Overgrazing and deforestation were significant for AE prevalence only. Conclusion: Tibetan herdsmen communities were at the highest risk of echinococcosis prevalence and should be the focus of echinococcosis control. Deworming both owned and stray dogs should be a major measure for controlling echinococcosis;treatment of wild definitive hosts should also be considered for AE endemic areas. Health education activities should be in concert with the local people's education backgrounds and languages in order to be able to improve behaviors. | 10 | Effects of Bacillus coagulans supplementation on the growth performance and gut health of broiler chickens with Clostridium perfringens-induced necrotic enteritis显示文摘Background: The poultry industry is in need of effective antibiotic alternatives to control outbreaks of necrotic enteritis(NE) due to Clostridium perfringens.Methods: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding Bacil us coagulans on the growth performance and gut health of broiler chickens with C. perfringens-induced NE. Two hundred and forty 1-day-old broiler chicks were randomly assigned to a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two dietary B. coagulans levels(0 or 4 × 109 CFU/kg of diet) and two disease chal enge statuses(control or NE chal enged).Results: NE-induced reduction in body weight gain was relieved by the addition of B. coagulans into broiler diets compared with the NE-infected birds. NE infection damaged intestinal morphological structure, promoted intestinal C.perfringens growth and liver invasion, and enhanced anti-C. perfringens specific sI gA concentrations in the gut and specific IgG levels in serum compared with the uninfected birds. NE infection significantly(P < 0.05) decreased mucin-2(at 14 d post-infection(DPI), tol-like receptor 2(TLR2, at 7 and 14 DPI), TLR4(at 7 and 14 DPI), tumor necrosis factor super family15(TNFSF15, at 7 and 14 DPI), lysozyme(LYZ, at 14 DPI) and fowlicidin-2(at 7 and 14 DPI) mR NA levels, whereas it dramatical y(P = 0.001) increased IFN-γ mR NA levels at 7 DPI. However, chal enged birds fed diets supplemented with B.coagulans showed a significant(P < 0.01) decrease in gut lesion scores, decreased C. perfringens numbers in the cecum and liver, and an increase in fowlicidin-2 mR NA levels in compared with the uninfected birds. | 11 | Prediction of undrained shear strength using extreme gradient boosting and random forest based on Bayesian optimization显示文摘Accurate assessment of undrained shear strength(USS)for soft sensitive clays is a great concern in geotechnical engineering practice.This study applies novel data-driven extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)and random forest(RF)ensemble learning methods for capturing the relationships between the USS and various basic soil parameters.Based on the soil data sets from TC304 database,a general approach is developed to predict the USS of soft clays using the two machine learning methods above,where five feature variables including the preconsolidation stress(PS),vertical effective stress(VES),liquid limit(LL),plastic limit(PL)and natural water content(W)are adopted.To reduce the dependence on the rule of thumb and inefficient brute-force search,the Bayesian optimization method is applied to determine the appropriate model hyper-parameters of both XGBoost and RF.The developed models are comprehensively compared with three comparison machine learning methods and two transformation models with respect to predictive accuracy and robustness under 5-fold cross-validation(CV).It is shown that XGBoost-based and RF-based methods outperform these approaches.Besides,the XGBoostbased model provides feature importance ranks,which makes it a promising tool in the prediction of geotechnical parameters and enhances the interpretability of model. | Wengang Zhang Chongzhi Wu Haiyi Zhong Yongqin Li Lin Wang | 2021 | Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,1: | 33 |

| 13 | Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration with primary closure is safe for management of choledocholithiasis in elderly patients显示文摘Background:Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration(LCBDE)is one of the minimally invasive options for choledocholithiasis.Primary closure of the common bile duct(CBD)upon completion of laparoscopic choledochotomy is safe in selected patients.The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of primary closure of CBD after LCBDE in patients aged 70 years or older.Methods:A total of 116 patients(51 males and 65 females)who suffered from choledocholithiasis and underwent primary closure of the CBD(without T-tube drainage)after LCBDE from January 2003 to December 2017 were recruited.They were classified into two groups according to age:group A(≥70 years,n=56),and group B(<70 years,n=60).The preoperative characteristics,intraoperative details,and postoperative outcomes of the two groups were evaluated.Results:The mean operative time was 172.02 min for group A and 169.92 min for group B(P=0.853).The mean hospital stay was 7.40 days for group A and 5.38 days for group B(P<0.001).Bile leakage occurred in two patients in group A and one in group B(3.57%vs 1.67%,P=0.952).There were no significant differences in the rates of postoperative complications and mortality between the two groups.At median follow-up time of 60 months,stone recurrence was detected in one patient in group A and two in group B(1.79%vs 3.33%,P=1.000).Stenosis of CBD was not observed in group A and slight stenosis in one patient in group B(0 vs 1.67%,P=1.000).Conclusion:Primary closure of the CBD upon completion of laparoscopic choledochotomy is safe and feasible in elderly patients≥70 years old. | Xiang Wu Ze-Jian Huang Jin-Yi Zhong Yi-Hong Ran Ming-Lei Ma Hong-Wei Zhang | 2019 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2019,18,6: | 30 |

| 16 | Multicenter case-control study of the risk factors for ulcerative colitis in China显示文摘AIM:To evaluate potential risk factors in the development of ulcerative colitis(UC) in China.METHODS:A total of 1308 patients with UC and 1308 age-matched and sex-matched controls were prospectively studied in China.The UC cases were collected from 17 hospitals in China from April 2007 to April 2010.Uniform questionnaires were designed to investigate risk factors including smoking,appendectomy,stress,socio-economic conditions,nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAIDs),oral contraceptives,diet,breastfeeding,infections and family sanitary conditions.Group comparisons by each factor were done using simple logistic regression analysis.Conditional logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis.RESULTS:By univariate analysis,the variables predictive of UC included feeling stress,light and heavy alcoholic drinking,spicy food,sugar consumption and infectious diarrhea,while heavy tea intake and tap water consumption were protective against UC.On multivariate analysis,the protective factor for UC was tap water consumption [odds ratios(OR) = 0.424,95%CI:0.302-0.594,P < 0.001];while the potential risk factors for UC were heavy sugar consumption(OR = 1.632,95%CI:1.156-2.305,P < 0.001),spicy food(light intake:OR = 3.329,95%CI:2.282-4.857,P < 0.001;heavy intake:OR = 3.979,95%CI:2.700-5.863,P < 0.001),and often feeling stress(OR = 1.981,95%CI:1.447-2.711,P < 0.001).Other factors,such as smoking habit,appendectomy,breastfeeding,a history of measles,rural or urban residence,education,oral contraceptives,and NSAID use have not been found to have a significant association with the development of UC in the present study.CONCLUSION:Our study showed tap water consumption was a protective factor for UC,while spicy food,heavy sugar consumption and often feeling stress were risk factors for UC in this Chinese population. | Yu-Fang Wang Qin Ou-yang Bing Xia Li-Na Liu Fang Gu Kai-Fang Zhou Qiao Mei Rui-Hua Shi Zhi-Hua Ran Xiao-Di Wang Pin-Jin Hu Kai-Chun Wu Xin-Guang Liu Ying-Lei Miao Ying Han Xiao-Ping Wu Guo-Bing He Jie Zhong Guan-Jian Liu | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,11: | 24 |
| 17 | Indoor Allergen Levels and Household Distributions in Nine Cities Across China显示文摘Objective Chinese allergic subjects have high levels of sensitization to house dust mite(HDM) and other indoor allergens. This study quantifies common indoor allergen levels in Chinese households. Methods Dust samples were collected from nine cities. Major allergens Der p 1 and Der f 1 from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and D. farinae, and specific antigens of Blomia tropicalis, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Acarus siro, and cockroach species Blattella germanica and Periplaneta americana were measured by ELISA. Results HDM allergens were found in dust samples from bedding in 95% of the Chinese households. The median levels varied from <0.006 to 9.2 μg/g of dust, depending on the city. The percentages of households having HDM allergen levels associated with the risk of developing allergy sensitization and asthma were 65% and 25%, respectively. Specific antigens of the storage mite and cockroach were only found in samples from the southern and tropical regions of China. Levels of mite allergens were generally higher in samples from bedding compared to samples from the living room, even for storage mites, whereas levels of cockroach antigens were higher in the living room samples. Conclusion HDM allergens are present in bedding dust samples from most Chinese households. Cities in southern and central China have relatively high levels of HDM major allergens compared to cities in northern and western China. Nanoring(NR) structures were fabricated on a green LED epitaxial wafer; the color of NR-μLEDs was tuned from green to blue through strain relaxation. An Al_2O_3 layer was deposited on the sidewall of NR-μLEDs,which improved the photoluminescence intensity by 143.7%. Coupling with the exposed multiple quantum wells through nonradiative resonant energy transfer, red quantum dots were printed to NR-μLEDs for a full-color display.
