| 1 | Surveillance and response systems for elimination of tropical diseases: summary of a thematic series in Infectious Diseases of Poverty显示文摘The peer-reviewed journal Infectious Diseases of Poverty provides a new platform to engage with,and disseminate in an open-access format,science outside traditional disciplinary boundaries.The current piece reviews a thematic series on surveillance-response systems for elimination of tropical diseases.Overall,22 contributions covering a broad array of diseases are featured–i.e.clonorchiasis,dengue,hepatitis,human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome(HIV/AIDS),H7N9 avian influenza,lymphatic filariasis,malaria,Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS),rabies,schistosomiasis and tuberculosis(TB).There are five scoping reviews,a commentary,a letter to the editor,an opinion piece and an editorial pertaining to the theme“Elimination of tropical disease through surveillance and response”.The remaining 13 articles are original contributions mainly covering(i)drug resistance;(ii)innovation and validation in the field of mathematical modelling;(iii)elimination of infectious diseases;and(iv)social media reports on disease outbreak notifications released by national health authorities.Analysis of the authors’affiliations reveals that scientists from the People’s Republic of China(P.R.China)are prominently represented.Possible explanations include the fact that the 2012 and 2014 international conferences pertaining to surveillance-response mechanisms were both hosted by the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases(NIPD)in Shanghai,coupled with P.R.China’s growing importance with regard to the control of infectious diseases.Within 4 to 22 months of publication,three of the 22 contributions were viewed more than 10000 times each.With sustained efforts focusing on relevant and strategic information towards control and elimination of infectious diseases,Infectious Diseases of Poverty has become a leading journal in the field of surveillance and response systems in infectious diseases and beyond. | Xia Zhou Peiling Yap Marcel Tanner Robert Bergquist Jürg Utzinger Xiao-Nong Zhou | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1: | 12 |
| 2 | Role of the Nocturnal Low-level Jet in the Formation of the Morning Precipitation Peak over the Dabie Mountains显示文摘The diurnal variation of precipitation over the Dabie Mountains(DBM) in eastern China during the 2013 mei-yu season is investigated with forecasts of a regional convection-permitting model. Simulated precipitation is verified against surface rain-gauge observations. The observed morning precipitation peak on the windward(relative to the prevailing synoptic-scale wind) side of the DBM is reproduced with good spatial and temporal accuracy. The interaction between the DBM and a nocturnal boundary layer low-level jet(BLJ) due to the inertial oscillation mechanism is shown to be responsible for this precipitation peak. The BLJ is aligned with the lower-level southwesterly synoptic-scale flow that carries abundant moisture.The BLJ core is established at around 0200 LST upwind of the mountains. It moves towards the DBM and reaches maximum intensity at about 70 km ahead of the mountains. | 3 | Coal and gas outburst prevention using new high water content cement slurry for injection into the coal seam显示文摘As coal and gas outburst is one of the most serious mine disasters, it is very important to at least control it if not prevent it from occurring. Injecting cement slurry or grouting into the coal seam can strengthen the seam, increase its rigidity coefficient(f), and reduce the volumetric expansion due to gas energy release.This paper reports the results of laboratory experiments on cement-based high water content slurry having different water-cement ratios(W/C) to be used for coal injection. The results show that as the W/C increases, the mobility of the slurry and its setting time increase. The compressive strength and rupture strength, however, are reduced. Furthermore, high W/C grout shows early strength after 7 days, which can be 80% of its 14-day compressive strength. To achieve rapid setting and early strength, the addition of Na_2SiO_3has proven to give the best result, when the concentration of the additive is 3%. The initial and final setting times are 13 and 21 min shorter than samples without Na_2SiO_3, while the compressive strength is more than double. As a retarder, the initial setting time can be extended to 83 min when tartaric acid of 0.4% concentration is added. Through the orthogonal experiment, the optimum recipe of the new high water content slurry has been determined to be: W/C = 2, tartaric acid = 0.2%, Na_2SiO_3= 3%, and12% bentonite. Reinforcement by injection simulation experiments show that the grouting radius of the new slurry mix is 250 mm when the applied grouting pressure is 60 k Pa, 7-day rupture strength and compressive strength are 5.2 and 6.4 MPa, respectively, and are 37% and 88% higher than ordinary cement grout. | 7 | Effects of febrile seizures in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis on gene expression using bioinformatical analysis显示文摘Background:To investigate the effect of long-term febrile convulsions on gene expression in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis(MTLE-HS)and explore the molecular mechanism of MTLE-HS.Methods:Microarray data of MTLE-HS were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.Differentially expressed genes(DEGs)between MTLE-HS with and without febrile seizure history were screened by the GEO2R software.Pathway enrichment and gene ontology of the DEGs were analyzed using the DAVID online database and FunRich software.Protein–protein interaction(PPI)networks among DEGs were constructed using the STRING database and analyzed by Cytoscape.Results:A total of 515 DEGs were identified in MTLE-HS samples with a febrile seizure history compared to MTLEHS samples without febrile seizure,including 25 down-regulated and 490 up-regulated genes.These DEGs were expressed mostly in plasma membrane and synaptic vesicles.The major molecular functions of those genes were voltage-gated ion channel activity,extracellular ligand-gated ion channel activity and calcium ion binding.The DEGs were mainly involved in biological pathways of cell communication signal transduction and transport.Five genes(SNAP25,SLC32A1,SYN1,GRIN1,and GRIA1)were significantly expressed in the MTLE-HS with prolonged febrile seizures.Conclusion:The pathogenesis of MTLE-HS involves multiple genes,and prolonged febrile seizures could cause differential expression of genes.Thus,investigations of those genes may provide a new perspective into the mechanism of MTLE-HS. | Yinchao Li Chengzhe Wang Peiling Wang Xi Li Liemin Zhou | 2020 | Acta Epileptologica2020,2,1: | 1 |
