| 1 | GSDMB promotes non-canonical pyroptosis by enhancing caspase-4 activity显示文摘Gasdermin B (GSDMB) has been reported to be associated with immune diseases in humans, but the detailed molecular mechanisms remain unsolved. The N-terminus of GSDMB by itself, unlike other gasdermin family proteins, does not induce cell death. Here, we show that GSDMB is highly expressed in the leukocytes of septic shock patients, which is associated with increased release of the gasdermin D (GSDMD) N-terminus. GSDMB expression and the accumulation of the N-terminal fragment of GSDMD are induced by the activation of the non-canonical pyroptosis pathway in a human monocyte cell line. The downregulation of GSDMB alleviates the cleavage of GSDMD and cell death. Consistently, the overexpression of GSDMB promotes GSDMD cleavage, accompanied by increased LDH release. We further found that GSDMB promotes caspase-4 activity, which is required for the cleavage of GSDMD in non-canonical pyroptosis, by directly binding to the CARD domain of caspase-4. | 2 | Mitochondrial ROS promote macrophage pyroptosis by inducing GSDMD oxidation显示文摘Disrupted mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation are often associated with macrophage pyroptosis. It remains unclear how these forms of mitochondrial dysfunction relate to inflammasome activation and gasdermin-D (Gsdmd) cleavage, two central steps of the pyroptotic process. Here, we also found MMP collapse and ROS generation induced by Nlrp3 inflammasome activation as previous studies reported. The elimination of ROS alleviated the cleavage of Gsdmd, suggesting that Gsdmd cleavage occurs downstream of ROS release. Consistent with this result, hydrogen peroxide treatment augmented the cleavage of Gsdmd by caspase-1. Indeed, four amino acid residues of Gsdmd were oxidized under oxidative stress in macrophages. The efficiency of Gsdmd cleavage by inflammatory caspase-1 was dramatically reduced when oxidative modification was blocked by mutation of these amino acid residues. | 4 | Potato/Maize intercropping reduces infestation of potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella(Zeller) by the enhancement of natural enemies显示文摘The potato tuber moth(PTM),Phthorimaea operculella(Zeller),is one of the most economically significant insect pests for potato in both field and storage worldwide.To evaluate the infestation,reduction of potato yield and the control efficacy for PTM,field tests were conducted in two seasons by intercropping of potato as the host plant with maize as a non-host plant of PTM.Three intercropping patterns were tested,which were 2 rows of potatoes with either 2,3,or 4 rows of maize(abbreviated 2 P:2 M,2 P:3 M,and 2 P:4 M),and the monocropped potato as the control,2 rows of potatoes,without maize,(abbreviated 2 P:0 M).Results showed that the population and infestation of PTM in the 2 P:3 M intercropping pattern was significantly lower than those in 2 P:2 M,2 P:4 M and the monocropping pattern of 2 P:0 M,due to the enhancement of natural enemies.Cumulative mines and tunneling in potato leaves in 2 P:3 M intercropping were significantly lower than those in 2 P:2 M and 2 P:4 M patterns.The population of parasitoids and the parasitism rate of PTM in intercropping pattern of 2 P:3 M were significantly higher than that in intercropping pattern of 2 P:2 M,2 P:4 M and monocropping pattern of 2 P:0 M.We conclude that the potato intercropped with maize reduced the adult and larva populations,and reduced the damage from PTM by enhancing the number of parasitoids and the level of parasitism.The greatest population density of parasitoids and parasitism rate were in the intercropping pattern of 2 rows of potatoes with 3 rows of maize.These data indicate that the host/non-host intercropping patterns can be used as a biological control tactic against PTM by enhancing the density of natural enemies in the agro-ecosystems. | ZHENG Ya-qiang ZHANG Li-min CHEN Bin YAN Nai-sheng GUI Fu-rong ZAN Qing-an DU Guang-zu HE Shu-qi LI Zheng-yue GAO Yu-lin XIAO Guan-li | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2020,19,2: | 8 |

| 9 | Cell behaviors on surface of pure tantalum with nano-dimpled structure显示文摘Tantalum exhibits excellent biocompatibility and good chemical stability, which has been employed in dental and orthopedic applications.The local microenvironment of the surface of implants influence determines the surrounding cell responses.In this work, nano-dimpled structure on the surface of pure tantalum was fabricated by electrochemical anodization.The surface morphology of the nano-dimpled structure was observed, and the dimensions of the nano-dimpled structure were measured by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The surface roughness of the sample with nano-dimpled structure was measured by atomic force microscopy(AFM).The results show that the diameter of nano-dimpled ranges from 40 to 180 nm, and the higher the applied voltage, the larger the diameter.Moreover, nano-dimpled structure has good hydrophilicity.In vitro results show that nano-dimpled structure can promote the adhesion and proliferation of mouse cranial anterior bone(MC-3T3-E1) cells.The filopodia of MC-3T3-E1 cells can be fully extended on this nano-dimpled structure.On the surface of the nano-dimpled structure with a dimple size of 40 nm, the cells have the longest aspect ratio.The small dimple size of the nanodimpled structure is beneficial to cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. | Jun-Wei Ma Rui Zan Wen-Zhi Chen Jia-Hua Ni Xiao-Nong Zhang | 2019 | Rare Metals2019,38,6: | 4 |

| 11 | Comprehensive strategy of conduit guidance combined with VEGF producing Schwann cells accelerates peripheral nerve repair显示文摘Peripheral nerve regeneration requires stepwise and well-organized establishment of microenvironment.Since local delivery of VEGF-A in peripheral nerve repair is expected to promote angiogenesis in the microenvironment and Schwann cells(SCs)play critical role in nerve repair,combination of VEGF and Schwann cells may lead to efficient peripheral nerve regeneration.VEGF-A overexpressing Schwann cells were established and loaded into the inner wall of hydroxyethyl cellulose/soy protein isolate/polyaniline sponge(HSPS)conduits.When HSPS is mechanically distorted,it still has high durability of strain strength,thus,can accommodate unexpected strain of nerve tissues in motion.A 10 mm nerve defect rat model was used to test the repair performance of the HSPS-SC(VEGF)conduits,meanwhile the HSPS,HSPS-SC,HSPS-VEGF conduits and autografts were worked as controls.The immunofluorescent co-staining of GFP/VEGF-A,Ki67 and MBP showed that the VEGF-A overexpressing Schwann cells could promote the proliferation,migration and differentiation of Schwann cells as the VEGF-A was secreted from the VEGF-A overexpressing Schwann cells.The nerve repair performance of the multifunctional and flexible conduits was examined though rat behavioristics,electrophysiology,nerve innervation to gastrocnemius muscle(GM),toluidine blue(TB)staining,transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and NF200/S100 double staining in the regenerated nerve.The results displayed that the effects on the repair of peripheral nerves in HSPS-SC(VEGF)group was the best among the conduits groups and closed to autografts.HSPS-SC(VEGF)group exhibited notably increased CD31+endothelial cells and activation of VEGFR2/ERK signaling pathway in the regenerated nerve tissues,which probably contributed to the improved nerve regeneration.Altogether,the comprehensive strategy including VEGF overexpressing Schwann cells-mediated and HSPS conduit-guided peripheral nerve repair provides a new avenue for nerve tissue engineering. | Ping Wu Zan Tong Lihua Luo Yanan Zhao Feixiang Chen Yinping Li Céline Huselstein Qifa Ye Qingsong Ye Yun Chen | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,10: | 4 |

| 13 | Plant species coexistence alleviates the impacts of lead on Zea mays L.显示文摘Whether plant coexistence can reduce the impacts of lead (Pb) on crops in agroecosystems has not been well understood. We conducted a factorial experiment to investigate the effects of weeds coexisting with maize (Zea mays L.) on Pb accumulation in maize and soil microbes at two Pb levels (ambient and 300 mg/kg). Elevated Pb tended to increase the Pb concentration in maize and decreased soil microbial activity (indicated by the average well color development, AWCD), functional group diversity, as well as arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) colonization and vesicle number of maize. Compared to the monoculture, weeds coexisting with maize reduced the Pb concentrations in the root, leaf, sheath and stem of maize at both seedling and mature stages. In maize-weed mixtures, soil microbial activity and functional group diversity tended to increase for both Pb treatments relative to the monoculture. Furthermore, principal component analysis revealed that the soil microbial community structure changed with the introduction of weeds. The highest Pb accumulation in weeds occurred for the elevated Pb treatment in a three species mixture. | 15 | Boosting electrocatalytic activity for CO_(2) reduction on nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts by co-doping with phosphorus显示文摘Electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)(CERR)to value-added chemicals is an attractive strategy for greenhouse gas mitigation,and carbon recycles utilization.Conventional metal catalysts suffered from low durability and sluggish kinetics impede the practical application.On the other hand,doped carbon materials recently demonstrate superior catalytic performance in CERR,which shows the potential to diminish the problems of metal catalysts to some extent.Herein,we present the design and fabrication of nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P)co-doped metal-free carbon materials as an efficient and stable electrocatalyst for reduction of CO_(2) to CO,which exhibits an excellent performance with a high faradaic efficiency of 92%(-0.55 V vs.RHE)and up to 24 h stability.A series of characterizations including TEM and XPS verified that nitrogen and phosphorous are successfully incorporated into the carbon matrix.Moreover,the comparisons between co-doping and single doping catalysts reveal that co-doping can significantly increase CERR performance.The improved catalytic activity is attributed to the synergetic effects between nitrogen and phosphorous dopants,which effectively modulate properties of the active site.The density functional theory(DFT)calculations were also performed to understand the synergy effects of dopants.It is revealed that the phosphorous doping can significantly lower the Gibbs free energy of COOH^(*)formation.Moreover,the introduction of the second dopants phosphorous can reduce the reaction barrier along the reaction path and cause polarization of density of states at the Fermi level.These changes can greatly enhance the activity of the catalysts.From a combined experimental and computational exploration,current work provides valuable insights into the reaction mechanism of CERR on N,P co-doped carbon catalysts,and the influence from synergy effects between dopants,which paves the way for the rational design of novel metal-free catalysts for CO2 electro-reduction. | Shuo Chen Tianfu Liu Samson O.Olanrele Zan Lian Chaowei Si Zhimin Chen Bo Li | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,3: | 2 |
