| 1 | Opportunities and challenges of the Sponge City construction related to urban water issues in China显示文摘Waterlogging is one of the major water issues in most cities of China and directly restricts their urbanization processes.The construction of Sponge City is an effective approach to solving the urban water issues,particularly for the waterlogging.In this study,both the urban issues emerged at the stage of rapid urbanization in China and the demands as well as problems of Sponge City construction related with the water issues were investigated,and the opportunities and challenges for the Sponge City construction in the future were also proposed.It was found that the current stormwater management focused on the construction of gray infrastructures(e.g.,drainage network and water tank) based on the fast discharge idea,which was costly and hard to catch up with the rapid expansion of city and its impervious surface,while green infrastructures(e.g.,river,lake and wetland)were ignored.Moreover,the current construction of Sponge City was still limited to low impacted development(LID) approach which was concentrated on source control measures without consideration of the critical functions of surrounding landscapes(i.e.,mountain,river,wetland,forest,farmland and lake),while application of the integrated urban water system approach and its supported technologies including municipal engineering,urban hydrology,environmental science,social science and ecoscape were relatively weak and needed to be improved.Besides,the lack of special Sponge City plan and demonstration area was also a considerable problem.In this paper,some perspectives on Good Sponge City Construction were proposed such as the point that idea of urban plan and construction should conform to the integral and systematic view of sustainable urban development.Therefore,both the basic theoretical research and the basic infrastructure construction such as monitoring system,drainage facility and demonstration area should be strengthened,meanwhile,the reformation and innovation in the urban water management system and the education system should also be urgently performed.The study was expected to provide a deeper thinking for the current Sponge City construction in China and to give some of suggestions for the future directions to urban plan and construction,as well as urban hydrology discipline. | XIA Jun ZHANG YongYong XIONG LiHua HE Shan WANG LongFeng YU ZhongBo | 2017 | Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,4: | 65 |
| 2 | Can media exposure improve stock price efficiency in China and why?显示文摘The media in China has undergone extensive commercialization to become more market-driven over the last 35 years. Based on a sample of over two million newspaper articles, this study investigates whether the media in China has an incremental impact on stock price efficiency. We find that: as media coverage of a firm increases,(1) its stock price synchronicity decreases;(2)the probability of informed trading of its stock increases; and(3) the extent to which its stock price deviates from random walk decreases. | 3 | End member inversion of surface sediment grain size in the South Yellow Sea and its implications for dynamic sedimentary environments显示文摘Four end members were inverted from surface sediment grain size data from the South Yellow Sea by using the end member(EM) model. The sediment provenance and hydrodynamic meanings of each EM were discussed based on the frequency and spatial distributions of the EMs. EM1 and EM2 reflect the dynamic transport and sorting processes of the terrigenous sediment, and EM3 and EM4 reflect the modification of relic sand. The ocean front mainly affected transport of relatively coarse terrigenous sediment in the South Yellow Sea, and the fine terrigenous sediments were generally unaffected by the ocean front. Fine sediment could pass through the ocean front and deposit in the central South Yellow Sea under weak tidal condition to form most part of the Central Yellow Sea Mud(CYSM). The CYSM extended toward northwest and southwest. The sediment in the north part of the CYSM mainly consisted of sediment from the Yellow River(Huanghe) in the northwest, and the sediment in the southwest part of CYSM mainly consisted of Subei coastal sediments from both the Yangtze River(Changjiang) and the Yellow River. | 4 | New evidence for the links between the local water cycle and the underground wet sand layer of a mega-dune in the Badain Jaran Desert, China显示文摘Scientists and the local government have great concerns about the climate change and water resources in the Badain Jaran Desert of western China. A field study for the local water cycle of a lake-desert system was conducted near the Noertu Lake in the Badain Jaran Desert from 21 June to 26 August 2008. An underground wet sand layer was observed at a depth of 20–50 cm through analysis of datasets collected during the field experiment. Measurements unveiled that the near surface air humidity increased in the nighttime. The sensible and latent heat fluxes were equivalent at a site about 50 m away from the Noertu Lake during the daytime, with mean values of 134.4 and 105.9 W/m2 respectively. The sensible heat flux was dominant at a site about 500 m away from the Noertu Lake, with a mean of 187.7 W/m2, and a mean latent heat flux of only 26.7 W/m2. There were no apparent differences for the land surface energy budget at the two sites during the night time. The latent heat flux was always negative with a mean value of –12.7 W/m2, and the sensible heat flux was either positive or negative with a mean value of 5.10 W/m2. A portion of the local precipitation was evaporated into the air and the top-layer of sand dried quickly after every rainfall event, while another portion seeped deep and was trapped by the underground wet sand layer, and supplied water for surface psammophyte growth. With an increase of air humidity and the occurrence of negative latent heat flux or water vapor condensation around the Noertu Lake during the nighttime, we postulated that the vapor was transported and condensed at the lakeward sand surface, and provided supplemental underground sand pore water. | 5 | Tailoring interphase structure to enable high-rate, durable sodium-ion battery cathode显示文摘Na-based layered transition metal oxides with O_(3)-type structure have been considered to be promising cathodes for Na-ion batteries. However, the intrinsically limited Na-ion conductivity induced by the Otype Na-coordinate environment compromises their rate and cycle capability, hindering their practical application. Here, we report an interphase-structure tailoring strategy that improves the electrochemical properties of O_(3)-type layered cathodes achieved through surface coating and doping processes.Specifically, a Zr-doped interphase structure is designed in the model compound NaNi_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)Fe_(1/3)O_(2) using the ionic conductor Na_(3)Zr_(2)Si_(2)PO_(12) as the surface coating material and Zr-dopant provider. We discover that the modified NaNi_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)Fe_(1/3)O_(2)cathode shows a stable Na-storage structure as well as an enhanced rate/cycle capability. Combined with theoretical calculations, it is suggested that the superior electrochemical performances originate from the Zr-doped interphase structure, which has an enlarged Na layer spacing that forms favorable Na-ion diffusion channels. | 6 | Characteristics of land-atmosphere energy and turbulentfluxes over the plateau steppe in central Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The land-atmosphere energy and turbulence exchange is key to understanding land surface processes on the Tibetan Plateau(TP). Using observed data for Aug. 4 to Dec. 3, 2012 from the Bujiao observation point(BJ) of the Nagqu Plateau Climate and Environment Station(NPCE-BJ), different characteristics of the energy flux during the Asian summer monsoon(ASM) season and post-monsoon period were analyzed. This study outlines the impact of the ASM on energy fluxes in the central TP. It also demonstrates that the surface energy closure rate during the ASM season is higher than that of the post-monsoon period. Footprint modeling shows the distribution of data quality assessments(QA) and quality controls(QC) surrounding the observation point. The measured turbulent flux data at the NPCE-BJ site were highly representative of the target land-use type. The target surface contributed more to the fluxes under unstable conditions than under stable conditions. The main wind directions(180° and 210°) with the highest data density showed flux contributions reaching 100%, even under stable conditions. The lowest flux contributions were found in sectors with low data density, e.g., 90.4% in the 360° sector under stable conditions during the ASM season. Lastly, a surface energy water balance(SEWAB) model was used to gap-fill any absent or corrected turbulence data. The potential simulation error was also explored in this study.
