1Evaluation of three tracers for labeling distal cerebrospinal fluidcontacting neurons显示文摘It has been reported that distal cerebrospinal fluidcontacting neurons(dCSF-CNs)can be detected by immunohistochemical assay using cholera toxin subunit B-conjugated horseradish peroxidase(CBHRP).In the present study,another two methods with CB alone or CB-conjugated FITC(CB-FITC)were used,and the results from the three methods were compared.Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups with CB-HRP,CB or CB-FITC.Tracers were diluted to 30%in artificial cerebrospinal fluid and injected separately(in a volume of 3μL)into the lateral ventricle.Animals from the CB-HRP and CB groups were perfused 48 h after surgery while animals from the CB-FITC group were perfused 1,3,6,12,24 or 48 h after surgery.The brain was sectioned(40μm)for immunofluorescence and five sections with positive neurons were selected from each rat for neuron counting.Three clusters of positive neurons in a'Y-like'distribution were detected ventral to the cerebral aqueduct of rats from the three groups.No significant difference was observed among the quantitative data.In the CB-FITC group,stable staining was detected even at 6 h after injection.Taken together,lateral ventricle injection of CB/CB-FITC is a useful method for labeling dCSFCNs in rats.The CB-FITC method makes dCSF-CNs labeling much simpler and more convenient.Fang Zhou Jiayou Wang Hongxing Zhang He Liu Guangping Zhao Cuihua Zu Xiaoxing Lu Licai Zhang 2013Neuroscience Bulletin2013,29,5:7
2Fatigue crack propagation behavior of Ni-based superalloys after overloading at elevated temperatures显示文摘The fatigue crack propagation behavior of three superalloys subjected to a single overloading at elevated temperatures was investigated. The fatigue crack propagation rate FCPR versus stress intensity factor range data da/dN—ΔK were calculated using the two-point secant method. It was found that the crack growth rates of the investigated materials were retarded after overloading with an overload ratio R OL=1.6. The size of the plastic zone in the front of the crack tip and its relation to loading level were discussed. The overload retardation effects are attributed to crack closure. 3Robust single machine scheduling problem with uncertain job due dates for industrial mass production显示文摘The single machine scheduling problem which involves uncertain job due dates is one of the most important issues in the real make-to-order environment. To deal with the uncertainty, this paper establishes a robust optimization model by minimizing the maximum tardiness in the worst case scenario over all jobs. Unlike the traditional stochastic programming model which requires exact distributions, our model only needs the information of due date intervals. The worst case scenario for a given sequence that belongs to a set containing only n scenarios is proved, where n is the number of jobs. Then, the model is simplified and reformulated as an equivalent mixed 0-1 integer linear programming(MILP) problem. To solve the MILP problems efficiently, a heuristic approach is proposed based on a robust dominance rule. 4CPPU may induce gibberellin-independent parthenocarpy associated with PbRR9 in‘Dangshansu’pear显示文摘Parthenocarpy is a valuable trait in self-incompatible plants,such as pear.N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N’-phenylurea(CPPU),a synthetic cytokinin analog,can induce parthenocarpy in pear(Pyrus spp.),but the mechanism of induction is unclear.To investigate the role of gibberellin in CPPU-induced parthenocarpy in pear,CPPU supplemented with paclobutrazol(PAC)was sprayed onto‘Dangshansu’pear.We found that the fruit set rate of pear treated with CPPU supplemented with PAC was identical to that in a CPPU-alone treatment group.In regard to cell development,CPPU mainly promoted hypanthium cell division and expansion,and PAC application had no influence on CPPU-induced cell development.RNA sequencing revealed that gibberellin 20 oxidase and gibberellin 3 oxidase genes were not differentially expressed following CPPU treatment.According to the analysis of fruit phytohormone content,the CPPU treatments did not induce gibberellin biosynthesis.These results suggest that CPPU-induced parthenocarpy may be gibberellin independent in‘Dangshansu’pear.After CPPU treatment,the indole acetic acid(IAA)content in fruit was significantly increased,and the abscisic acid(ABA)content was significantly decreased.Similarly,RNA sequencing revealed that many genes involved in the auxin and ABA pathways were significantly differentially expressed in the CPPU treatment groups;among them,indole-3-pyruvate monooxygenase(YUCCA)was significantly upregulated and 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase(NCED)was significantly downregulated.IAA and ABA may thus play important roles in CPPU-induced parthenocarpy.PbTwo-component response regulator9(PbRR9),PbYUCCA4,and PbNCED6 were then selected to further elucidate the mechanism of CPPU-induced parthenocarpy.A yeast one-hybrid assay indicated that PbRR9 can combine with the PbYUCCA4 and PbNCED6 promoters.Dual luciferase assays revealed that PbRR9 can promote and repress the activities of the PbYUCCA4 and PbNCED6 promoters,respectively.After the transient expression of PbRR9 in fruits,PbYUCCA4 expression was significantly upregulated,and PbNCED6 expression was significantly downregulated.This study uncovered a CPPU-induced parthenocarpy mechanism that is different from that in tomato.CPPU may upregulate PbYUCCA4 and downregulate PbNCED6 by upregulating PbRR9,thereby increasing IAA content and decreasing ABA content to ultimately induce parthenocarpy in‘Dangshansu’pear.However,because only a single time point was used and because‘botanical’and‘accessory’fruits have different structures,this conclusion is still preliminary.Liu Cong Ting Wu Hanting Liu Huibin Wang Haiqi Zhang Guangping Zhao Yao Wen Qianrong Shi Lingfei Xu Zhigang Wang 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:4

6Characterization and origin of charcoalified foxtail millet(Setaria italica) from the Chenyuan Site of the Western Zhou Dynasty in Shangluo, SE Shaanxi, China显示文摘In this paper, we discuss charcoalified foxtail millet grains dated to the middle to late Western Zhou Dynasty and collected from the Chenyuan archeological site in Shangluo, in China's southeastern Shaanxi Province. We assigned these specimens to the species Setaria italica based on the following characteristics: an obtuse chalazal apex with missing stigmatic remains; an undulant seed surface composed of rectangular cells with undulate anticlinal walls; an elongated and deeply depressed embryo extending to almost the full seed length; and spherical starch grains. 8Development of a widely targeted volatilomics method for profiling volatilomes in plants显示文摘Volatile organic compounds play essential roles in plant environment interactions as well as determining the fragrance of plants.Although gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolo-mics is commonly used to assess plant volatiles,it suffers from high spectral convolution,low detection sensitivity,a limited number of annotated metabolites,and relatively poor reproducibility.Here,we report a widely targeted volatilomics(WTV)method that involves using a“targeted spectra extraction”algorithm to address spectral convolution,constructing a high-coverage MS2 spectral tag library to expand volatile annotation,adapting a multiple reaction monitoring mode to improve sensitivity,and using regression models to adjust for signal drift.The newly developed method was used to profile the volatilome of rice grains.Compared with the untargeted method,the newly developed WTV method shows higher sensitivity(for example,the signal-to-noise ratio of guaicol increased from 4.1 to 18.8),high annotation coverage(the number of annotated volatiles increased from 43 to 132),and better reproducibility(the number of volatiles in quality control samples with relative standard deviation value below 30.0%increased from 14 to 92 after normalization).Using the WTV method,we studied the metabolic responses of tomato to environmental stimuli and profiled the volatilomes of different rice accessions.The results identified benzothiazole as a potential airborne signal priming tomato plants for enhanced defense and 2-nonanone and 2-heptanone as novel aromatic compounds contributing to rice fragrance.These case studies suggest that the widely targeted volatilomics method is more efficient than those currently used and may considerably promote plant volatilomics studies.Honglun Yuan Guangping Cao Xiaodong Hou Menglan Huang Pengmeng Du Tingting Tan Youjin Zhang Haihong Zhou Xianqing Liu Ling Liu Yiding Jiangfang Yufei Li Zhenhuan Liu Chuanying Fang Liqing Zhao Alisdair R.Fernie Jie Luo 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,1:2

11Prognostic value of cardiovascular magnetic resonance in immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated myocarditis:A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background:The role of surgery in metastatic breast cancer(MBC)is currently controversial.Several novel statistical and deep learning(DL)methods promise to infer the suitability of surgery at the individual level.Objective:The objective of this study was to identify the most applicable DL model for determining patients with MBC who could benefit from surgery and the type of surgery required.Methods:We introduced the deep survival regression with mixture effects(DSME),a semi-parametric DL model integrating three causal inference methods.Six models were trained to make individualized treatment recommendations.Patients who received treatments in line with the DL models'recommendations were compared with those who underwent treatments divergent from the recommendations.Inverse probability weighting(IPW)was used to minimize bias.The effects of various features on surgery selection were visualized and quantified using multivariate linear regression and causal inference.Results:In total,5269 female patients with MBC were included.DSME was an independent protective factor,outperforming other models in recommend-ing surgery(IPW-adjusted hazard ratio[HR]=0.39,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.19–0.78)and type of surgery(IPW-adjusted HR=0.66,95%CI:0.48–0.93).DSME was superior to other models and traditional guidelines,suggesting a higher proportion of patients benefiting from surgery,especially breast-conserving surgery.The debiased effect of patient characteristics,including age,tumor size,metastatic sites,lymph node status,and breast cancer subtypes,on surgery decision was also quantified.Conclusions:Our findings suggested that DSME could effectively identify patients with MBC likely to benefit from surgery and the specific type of surgery needed.This method can facilitate the development of efficient,reliable treatment recommendation systems and provide quantifiable evidence for decision-making.Wenhua Song Nan Zhang Tonglian Lv Yang Zhao Guangping Li Gary Tse Tong Liu 2024Cancer Innovation2024,3,3:0
12Appraising the potential of calcium sulfoaluminate cement-based grouts in simulated permafrost environments显示文摘The aim of this study is to appraise the potential of calcium sulfoaluminate(CSA)cement-based grouts in simulated permafrost environments.The hydration and performance of CSA cement-based grouts cured in cold environments(10,0,and−10℃)are investigated using a combination of tests,including temperature recording,X-ray diffraction(XRD)tests,thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and unconfined compressive strength(UCS)tests.The recorded temperature shows a rapid increase in temperature at the early stage in all the samples.Meanwhile,results of the TGA and XRD tests show the generation of a significant quantity of hydration products,which indicates the rapid hydration of CSA cement-based grouts at the early stage at low temperatures.Consequently,the CSA cement-based grouts exhibit remarkably high early strength.The UCS values of the samples cured for 2 h at−10,0,and 10℃ are 6.5,12.0,and 12.3 MPa,respectively.The UCS of the grouts cured at−10,0,and 10℃ increases continuously with age and ultimately reached 14.9,19.0,and 30.6 MPa at 28 d,respectively.The findings show that the strength of grouts fabricated using CSA cement can develop rapidly in cold environments,thus rendering them promising for permafrost applications.Jian ZHAO Guangping HUANG Lin LIAO Wei Victor LIU 2023Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2023,17,5:0
13Regulation of osteoblast functions on titanium surfaces with different micro/nanotopographies and compositions显示文摘Surface modification of medical implants is considered as an effective method to improve cellular behaviors and the integration of tissues with materials. Titanium(Ti)-based materials with four different micro/nano-structures and compositions were prepared by acid etching, electrochemical anodization and alkali-heat treatment. The surface morphologies and compositions of the different surface-modified Ti materials were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The effects of the micro/nano structured and compositions of the surfaces on cellular responses were investigated in vitro by observing the morphology, adhesion, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of osteoblasts. To further investigate the underlying mechanisms, an RT-PCR assay was performed to analyze the expression levels of cell adhesion-related genes. Our results indicated that the nanosized structure and anatase composition could promote the adhesion and proliferation of MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast, as well as alkaline phosphatase activity and extracellular matrix mineralization via the integrin-FAK signaling pathway. 14A machine learning model to predict unconfined compressive strength of alkali-activated slag-based cemented paste backfill显示文摘The unconfined compressive strength(UCS)of alkali-activated slag(AAS)-based cemented paste backfill(CPB)is influenced by multiple design parameters.However,the experimental methods are limited to understanding the relationships between a single design parameter and the UCS,independently of each other.Although machine learning(ML)methods have proven efficient in understanding relationships between multiple parameters and the UCS of ordinary Portland cement(OPC)-based CPB,there is a lack of ML research on AAS-based CPB.In this study,two ensemble ML methods,comprising gradient boosting regression(GBR)and random forest(RF),were built on a dataset collected from literature alongside two other single ML methods,support vector regression(SVR)and artificial neural network(ANN).The results revealed that the ensemble learning methods outperformed the single learning methods in predicting the UCS of AAS-based CPB.Relative importance analysis based on the bestperforming model(GBR)indicated that curing time and water-to-binder ratio were the most critical input parameters in the model.Finally,the GBR model with the highest accuracy was proposed for the UCS predictions of AAS-based CPB.Chathuranga Balasooriya Arachchilage Chengkai Fan Jian Zhao Guangping Huang Wei Victor Liu 2023Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2023,15,11:0
15Classification and applied uses of Bryaceae sensu lato(Musci) in China显示文摘The Bryaceae is a large, cosmopolitan, taxonomically difficult moss family. Recent studies based on molecular data alone or in combination with morphological data have greatly changed the understanding of phylogenetic relationships in the Bryaceae s.l. and indicate that the Bryaceae is not monophyletic. Based on phylogenetic analyses of sequence data for four cpDNA regions and morphological data, we revise the traditional Bryaceae in China and transfer six genera to other families. The Mielichhoferiaceae was redefined previously by Hill et al. based on the presence of much-branched stems, apparently lateral gametangia, Pohlia-like leaves, and a more-or-less reduced peristome. Five genera of Mielichhoferiaceae are present in China: Mielichhoferia(four species), Pohlia(27 species, two varieties), Pseudopohlia(one species), Epipterygium(two species), and Synthetodontium(one species). The genera Orthodontium and Leptobryum are transferred from the Bryaceae s.l. to Orthodontiaceae and Meesiaceae, respectively. Members of the recircumscribed Bryaceae belong to five genera: Anomobryum(five species), Brachymenium(14 species), Bryum(54 species, two varieties), Plagiobryum(three species), and Rhodobryum(four species). Bryaceae diversity is high in China. The species have potential uses in medicine, landscaping, environmental protection, and other fields. Rhodobryum roseum(Hedw.) Limpr., Bryum argenteum Hedw., and Rhodobryum giganteum(Schw gr.) Paris have long been used to cure cardiovascular disease in China. Some bioactive compounds will be leading compounds for the future design of novel drugs. In recent years, many species of Bryaceae have been used for landscaping. 16Histopathological Observation of Parvovirus Infection in Foxes显示文摘In this study,histopathological changes in the heart,liver,spleen,lung,kidney,intestine,brain and other organs of foxes died of parvovirus infection were observed.
