| 1 | Acupuncture and regulation of gastrointestinal function显示文摘In China, acupuncture has been considered an effective method for treating gastrointestinal(GI) dysfunction diseases for thousands of years. In fact, acupuncture has gained progressive acceptance from both practitioners and patients worldwide. However, the therapeutic effects and underlying mechanisms in treating GI dysfunction have not yet been established due to a lack of systematic and comprehensive review articles. Therefore, the aim of this review is to discuss the efficacy of acupuncture as a treatment for GI dysfunction and the associated underlying mechanisms. A search of Pub Med was conducted for articles that were published over the past 10 years using the terms 'acupuncture', 'gastrointestine', and other relevant keywords. In the following review, we describe the effect and underlying mechanisms of acupuncture on GI function from the perspectives of GI motility, visceral sensitivity, the GI barrier, and the brain-gut axis. The dual regulatory effects of acupuncture may manifest by promoting gastric peristalsis in subjects with low initial gastric motility, and suppressing peristalsis in subjects with active initial motility. In addition, the regulation of acupuncture on gastric motility may be intensitydependent. | 2 | A study of the efficacy of bacterial biofilm cleanout for gastrointestinal endoscopes显示文摘AIM:To compare the influence and clearance effect of enzymatic and non-enzymatic detergents against Escherichia coli (E. coli) biofilm on the inner surface of gastroscopes.METHODS:Teflon tubes were incubated in a mixture of different detergents and E. coli culture (106 CFU/mL) for 72 h at 15℃,and biofilms on the inner surface of the teflon tubes were analyzed by bacterial count and scanning electron microscopy. To evaluate the clear-ance effect of detergents,after biofilms were formed on the inner surface of Teflon tubes by 72 h lavage with E. coli culture,tubes were lavaged by enzymatic and non-enzymatic detergents at a speed of 250 mL/min,then biofilms on the inner surface were analyzed by bacterial count and scanning electron microscopy.RESULTS:Non-enzymatic detergent had a better inhi-bition function on biofilm formation than enzymatic de-tergent as it reduced bacterial burden by 2.4 log compared with the control samples (P = 0.00). Inhibition function of enzymatic detergent was not significantly different to that of control samples and reduced bac-terial burden by 0.2 log on average (P > 0.05). After lavaging at 250 mL/min for 3 min,no living bacteria were left in the tubes. Scanning electron microscopy observation showed biofi lms became very loose by the high shear force effect. CONCLUSION:Non-enzymatic detergent has a better inhibition effect on biofilm formation at room temperature. | 3 | Evaluation of a granulated formula for the nerve root type and vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis:a multicenter,single-blind,randomized,controlled,phase Ⅲ clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of cervical spondylosis formula granules in reducing the symptoms of patients with the nerve root type and the vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis.METHODS:This was a multicenter, single-blind,randomized, controlled trial.From April 2002 to November 2003, 499 patients were randomly assigned to either the treatment or the control group.The treatment group was orally administered granules prepared with a formula for cervical spondylosis, while the control group was given Jingfukang granules.The treatment course was 1 month for both groups.RESULTS:In patients with the nerve root type of cervical spondylosis, the total effect rate in the treatment group(87.21%) was significantly higher than that in the control group(80.70%, P < 0.01).After the treatment period in both groups, the treatment group had a significantly greater rate of resolution of pain, numbness of the upper limbs, muscle strength of the upper limbs, and fatigue than the control group(all P < 0.05).In patients with the vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis, the total effect rate in the treatment group(82.07%) was similar to that in the control group(71.21%, P >0.05).After the treatment period in both groups,the treatment group had a significantly greater rate of resolution of weakness of the waist and knees than the control group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:The cervical spondylosis formula granules significantly improve numbness, muscle strength, and fatigue, and reduce pain in patients with the nerve root type of cervical spondylosis,and improve the weakness of the waist and knees in patients with the vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis. | Luo Xiaodong Wang Peng Li Zhe Liang De Huang Feng Liu Jinwen Chen Xinyu Hu Guoheng Fang Suting Zhang Huajian | 2017 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2017,37,2: | 28 |
| 4 | Application of nonlinear chemical fingerprinting to identification,evaluation and clinical use of Glycyrrhiza显示文摘Nonlinear chemical fingerprinting is a new technique for analyzing traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). We developed such a method and applied it to Glycyrrhiza, a significant TCM. Nonlinear chemical fingerprints were obtained for Glycyrrhiza from four different production areas, and for 14 other TCMs with similar induction time. The calculation of their similarities was based on similarity system theory. Using intuitive visual comparison of the data and the similarity calculation results, Glycyrrhiza was discriminated from the 14 other TCMs. There was a linear relationship between the content of active TCM components and the induction time. This was used to compare the content of active components in Glycyrrhiza from the four different production areas, and establish an equivalent-dose relationship for these four samples. | 11 | Effect of Magnetic Field on Tribological Properties of Lubricating Oils with and without Tricresyl Phosphate显示文摘Tribological properties of neat 150 SN mineral base oil and the oils doped with different contents of tricresyl phosphate(TCP) under magnetic field or non-magnetic field were evaluated on a four-ball tribotester, on which an external magnetic field was applied. Furthermore, the morphology and the tribochemical characteristics of the worn surfaces were examined with a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and an X-ray photoelectron spectrograph(XPS). The tribological test results showed that the magnetic field improved anti-wear properties but impaired the friction-reducing properties of neat base oil and the TCP-doped oils. The worn surfaces tested in magnetic field were characterized by a slighter wear than those tested in normal condition, especially for the surfaces lubricated with the TCP-doped oils. Furthermore, the results of XPS analysis indicated that tribochemical films on the surfaces tested with TCP-doped oils were mainly composed of ferriccontaining compounds such as Fe_2O_3, Fe_3O_4 and FePO_4. Under the influence of a magnetic field, the atomic concentrations of oxygen and phosphorous in the frictional sub-surfaces were higher than those without magnetic impact. Moreover, the morphology and the tribochemical characteristics of worn surfaces were examined by a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer(XPS). Then the lubrication mechanisms were discussed. The tribological test results indicated that the wear scar diameters(WSDs) of steel balls lubricated by the T202-containing lubricating oils and the friction coefficients of the corresponding oil under magnetic field were smaller than those without magnetic affection. The worn surface lubricated with the T202-formulated oils in a magnetic field was smoother than that obtained under the normal condition. Furthermore, the results of XPS analysis indicated that tribochemical films on the surfaces lubricated with T202-doped oils were mainly composed of compounds such as FeSO_4, FeS and ZnS. The atomic concentrations of oxygen, sulfur, iron, zinc and phosphorus species identified in T202 under magnetic field were higher than those without magnetic impact. | 14 | Proposal and validation of a modified staging system to improve the prognosis predictive performance of the 8th AJCC/ UICC pTNM staging system for gastric adenocarcinoma: a multicenter study with external validation显示文摘Background:The 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer/Union for International Cancer Control(AJCC/UICC)pathological tumor-node-metastasis(pTNM)staging system may have increased accuracy in predicting prognosis of gastric cancer due to its important modifications from previous editions.However,the homogeneity in prognosis within each subgroup classified according to the 8th edition may still exist.This study aimed to compare and analyze the prognosis prediction abilities of the 8th and 7th editions of AJCC/UICC pTNM staging system for gastric cancer and propose a modified pTNM staging system with external validation.Methods:In total,clinical data of 7911 patients from three high-capacity institutions in China and 10,208 cases from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results(SEER)Program Registry were analyzed.The homogeneity,discrimina-tory ability,and monotonicity of the gradient assessments of the 8th and 7th editions of AJCC/UICC pTNM staging system were compared using log-rank χ^(2),linear-trend χ^(2),likelihood-ratioχ2 statistics and Akaike information criterion(AIC)calculations,on which a modified pTNM classification with external validation using the SEER database was proposed.Results:Considerable stage migration,mainly for stage III,between the 8th and 7th editions was observed in both cohorts.The survival rates of subgroups of patients within stage IIIA,IIIB,or IIIC classified according to both editions were significantly different,demonstrating poor homogeneity for patient stratification.A modified pTNM staging system using data from the Chinese cohort was then formulated and demonstrated an improved homogeneity in these abovementioned subgroups.This staging system was further validated using data from the SEER cohort,and similar promising results were obtained.Compared with the 8th and 7th editions,the modified pTNM staging system displayed the highest log-rank χ^(2),linear-trend χ^(2),likelihood-ratio χ^(2),and lowest AIC values,indicating its superior discriminatory ability,monotonicity,homogeneity and prognosis prediction ability in both populations.Conclusions:The 8th edition of AJCC/UICC pTNM staging system is superior to the 7th edition,but still results in homogeneity in prognosis prediction.Our modified pTNM staging system demonstrated the optimal stratification and prognosis prediction ability in two large cohorts of different gastric cancer populations. | Cheng Fang Wei Wang Jing-Yu Deng Zhe Sun Sharvesh Raj Seeruttun Zhen-Ning Wang Hui-Mian Xu Han Liang Zhi-Wei Zhou | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 11 |
| 15 | Homocysteine, hypertension, and risks of cardiovascular events and all-cause death in the Chinese elderly population: a prospective study显示文摘BACKGROUND Increased homocysteine levels are associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD)and death.However,their prevention has not been effective in decreasing CVD risk.This study investigated the individual and combined associations of hyperhomocysteinemia and hypertension with incident CVD events and all-cause death in the Chinese elderly population without a history of CVD.METHODS This prospective study was conducted among 1,257 elderly participants(mean age:69 years).A questionnaire survey,physical examinations,and laboratory tests were conducted to collect baseline data.Hyperhomocysteinemia was defined as homocysteine level≥15μmol/L.H-type hypertension was defined as concomitant hypertension and hyperhomocysteinemia.Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate individual and combined associations of hyperhomocysteinemia and hypertension with the risks of incident CVD events and all-cause death.RESULTS Over a median of 4.84-year follow-up,hyperhomocysteinemia was independently associated with incident CVD events and all-cause death.The hazard ratios(HRs)were 1.45(95%CI:1.01−2.08)for incident CVD events and 1.55(95%CI:1.04−2.30)for all-cause death.After adjustment for confounding factors,H-type hypertension had the highest HRs for incident CVD events and all-cause death.The fully adjusted HRs were 2.44 for incident CVD events(95%CI:1.28−4.65),2.07 for stroke events(95%CI:1.01−4.29),8.33 for coronary events(95%CI:1.10−63.11),and 2.31 for all-cause death(95%CI:1.15−4.62).CONCLUSIONS Hyperhomocysteinemia was an independent risk factor,and when accompanied by hypertension,it contrib-uted to incident CVD events and all-cause death in the Chinese elderly population without a history of CVD. | Zhong-Ying ZHANG Xiang GU Zhe TANG Shao-Chen GUAN Hong-Jun LIU Xiao-Guang WU Yan ZHAO Xiang-Hua FANG | 2021 | Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2021,18,10: | 10 |
| 16 | Biodegradation,hemocompatibility and covalent bonding mechanism of electrografting polyethylacrylate coating on Mg alloy for cardiovascular stent显示文摘Organic coatings are the most widely employed approach for the promotion of corrosion resistance of magnesium(Mg)alloys.Unfortunately,traditional organic coatings are weakly bonded to Mg substrates due to physical adsorption.Herein,a polyethylacrylate(PEA)coating was fabricated on Mg-Zn-YNd alloy via electro-grafting.The surface structure and chemical composition were characterized by means of scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),atomic force microscope(AFM)and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)as well as time of flight-secondary ion mass spectrometer(To F-SIMS).The results showed that the surface roughness of PEA coating was dominated by scan rate;while the coverage and integrity of PEA coating were mainly affected by the monomer concentration and sweep circles.To F-SIMS results indicated that PEA coating was wholly covered on Mg alloy,and the presence of C2H3Mg-fragment confirmed the covalent bond between PEA coating and Mg alloy.In addition,DFT calculation results of the adsorption of EA molecules with Mg substrate agree well with the experimental phenomena and observation,suggesting that the electrons in 3s orbit of Mg atoms and 2pz orbit of C1 atom participated in the formation of covalent bond between PEA coating and Mg substrate.Potentiodynamic polarization curves and immersion test demonstrated that the PEA coatings could effectively enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg alloy.The platelet adhesion results designated that platelets were barely visible on PEA coating,which implied that PEA coating could effectively prevent the thrombosis and coagulation of platelets.PEA coating might be a promising candidate coating of Mg alloy for cardiovascular stent. | Yong-Xin Yang Zhe Fang Yi-Hao Liu Ya-Chen Hou Li-Guo Wang Yi-Fan Zhou Shi-Jie Zhu Rong-Chang Zeng Yu-Feng Zheng Shao-Kang Guan | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,42,11: | 9 |
| 17 | The Epitope Study on the SARS-CoV Nucleocapsid Protein显示文摘The nucleocapsid protein (N protein) has been found to be an antigenic protein in a number of coronaviruses. Whether the N protein in severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) is antigenic remains to be elucidated. Using Western blot and Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA),the recombinant N proteins and the synthesized peptides derived from the N protein were screened in sera from SARS patients. All patient sera in this study displayed strong positive immunoreactivities against the recombinant N proteins,whereas normal sera gave negative immunoresponses to these proteins, indicating that the N protein of SARS-CoV is an antigenic protein. Furthermore, the epitope sites in the N protein were determined by competition experiments, in which the recombinant proteins or the synthesized peptides competed against the SARS-CoV proteins to bind to the antibodies raised in SARS sera. One epitope site located at the C-terminus was confirmed as the most antigenic region in this protein. A detailed screening of peptide with ELISA demonstrated that the amino sequence from Codons 371 to 407 was the epitope site at the C-terminus of the N protein. | 18 | Seasonal variation of nitrogen and phosphorus in Xiaojiang River-A tributary of the Three Gorges Reservoir显示文摘A yearlong monitoring program in the backwater area of Xiaojiang River(XBA)was launched in order to investigate the eutrophication of backwater areas in tributaries of the Yangtze River in the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)in China,starting after the impoundment water level of the TGR reached 156 m.From March 2007 to March 2008,the average concentration of total nitrogen(TN)and total phosphorus(TP)were(1553484)μg·L^(–1)and(6231)μg·L^(–1),respectively.The mean value of chlorophyll was(9.070.91)μg·L^(–1).The trophic level of XBA was meso-eutrophic,while the general nutrient limitation was phosphorus.The results indicated that XBA has a strong ability to purify itself and has non-point source pollution from terrestrial runoff.The variation of TN/TP ratio was caused by a variation in TN rather than in TP when TN/TP<22.N-fixation from cyanobacteria occurred and became an important process in overcoming the nitrogen deficit under a low TN/TP ratio.When TN/TP≥22,the variation of TP affected the TN/TP ratio more significantly than TN.The increase of TP in XBA was caused mainly by particulate phosphorus,which could originate from a non-point source as adsorptive inorganic forms after heavy rainfall and surface runoff.An increase in the river’s flow could also contribute to an unstable environment for the growth of phytoplankton. | Zhe LI Jinsong GUO Man LONG Fang FANG Jinping SHENG Hong ZHOU | 2009 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,3: | 8 |
| 19 | A novel nomogram individually predicting disease-specific survival after D2 gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer显示文摘Background:Few studies have shown nomograms that may predict disease-specific survival(DSS)probability after curative D2 gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer(AGC),particularly among Chinese patients.This study sought to develop an elaborative nomogram that predicts long-term DSS for AGC in Chinese patients.Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on 6753 AGC patients undergoing D2 gastrectomy between January 1,2000 and December 31,2012 from three large medical hospitals in China.We assigned patients from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center to the training set,and patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University and Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital to two separate external validation sets.A multivariate survival analysis was performed using Cox proportional hazards regression model in a training set,and a nomogram was constructed.Harrell’s C-index was used to evaluate discrimination and calibration plots were used to validate similarities between survival probabilities predicted by the nomogram model and actual survival rates in two validation sets.Results:The multivariate Cox regression model identified age,tumor size,location,Lauren classification,lymphatic/venous invasion,depth of invasion,and metastatic lymph node ratio as covariates associated with survival.In the training set,the nomogram exhibited superior discrimination power compared with the 8th American Joint Com-mittee on Cancer TNM classification(Harrell’s C-index,0.82 vs.0.74;P<0.001).In two validation sets,the nomogram’s discrimination power was also excellent relative to TNM classification(C-index,0.83 vs.0.75 and 0.81 vs.0.74,respec-tively;P<0.001 for both).After calibration,the nomogram produced survival predictions that corresponded closely with actual survival rate.Conclusions:The established nomogram was able to predict 3-,5-,and 10-year DSS probabilities for AGC patients.Validation revealed that this nomogram exhibited excellent discrimination and calibration capacity,suggesting its clinical utility. | Wei Wang Zhe Sun Jing-Yu Deng Xiao-Long Qi Xing-Yu Feng Cheng Fang Xing-Hua Ma Zhen-Ning Wang Han Liang Hui-Mian Xu Zhi-Wei Zhou | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 8 |
| 20 | The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE) mission: An overview显示文摘The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE), dubbed “Xihe”—Goddess of the Sun, was launched on October 14, 2021 as the first solar space mission of China National Space Administration(CNSA). The CHASE mission is designed to test a newly developed satellite platform and to acquire the spectroscopic observations in the Hα waveband. The Hα Imaging Spectrograph(HIS)is the scientific payload of the CHASE satellite. It consists of two observational modes: raster scanning mode and continuum imaging mode. The raster scanning mode obtains full-Sun or region-of-interest spectral images from 6559.7 to 6565.9 ? and from 6567.8 to 6570.6 ? with 0.024 ? pixel spectral resolution and 1 min temporal resolution. The continuum imaging mode obtains photospheric images in continuum around 6689 ? with the full width at half maximum of 13.4 ?. The CHASE mission will advance our understanding of the dynamics of solar activity in the photosphere and chromosphere.
