1Chemical composition of PM_(2.5) during winter in Tianjin,China显示文摘PM2.5 samples for 24 h were collected during winter in Tianjin,China. The ambient mass concentration and chemical composition of the PM2.5 were determined. Ionic species were analyzed by ion chromatog-raphy,while carbonaceous species were determined with the IMPROVE thermal optical reectance(TOR) method,and inorganic elements were measured by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spec-trometer. The daily PM2.5 mass concentrations ranged from 48.2 to 319.2 g/m3 with an arithmetic average of 144.6 g/m3. The elevated PM2.5 in winter was mostly attributed to combustion sources such as vehicle exhaust,heating,cooking and industrial emissions,low wind speeds and high relative humidity(RH) ,which were favorable for pollutant accumulation and formation of secondary pollutants. By chem-ical mass balance,it was estimated that about 89.1% of the PM2.5 mass concentrations were explained by carbonaceous species,secondary particles,crustal matters,sea salt and trace elements. Organic material was the largest contributor,accounting for about 32.7% of the total PM2.5 mass concentrations. 2Mode-locked 2.8-μm fluoride fiber laser:from soliton to breathing pulse显示文摘The mode-locked fluoride fiber laser(MLFFL)is an exciting platform for directly generating ultrashort pulses in the mid-infrared(mid-IR).However,owing to difficulty in managing the dispersion in fluoride fiber lasers,MLFFLs are restricted to the soliton regime,hindering pulse-energy scaling.We overcame the problem of dispersion management by utilizing the huge normal dispersion generated near the absorption edge of an infrared-bandgap semiconductor and promoted MLFFL from soliton to breathing-pulse mode-locking.In the breathing-pulse regime,the accumulated nonlinear phase shift can be significantly reduced in the cavity,and the pulse-energy-limitation effect is mitigated.The breathing-pulse MLFFL directly produced a pulse energy of 9.3 nJ and pulse duration of 215 fs,with a record peak power of 43.3 kW at 2.8μm.Our work paves the way for the pulse-energy and peak-power scaling of mid-IR fluoride fiber lasers,enabling a wide range of applications.Zhipeng Qin Guoqiang Xie Hongan Gu Ting Hai Peng Yuan Jingui Ma Liejia Qian 2019Advanced Photonics2019,1,6:9
3Structural and Functional Tailoring of Melanin-Like Polydopamine Radical Scavengers显示文摘Melanin is a ubiquitous but poorly understood polymeric,dark brown to black pigment biomaterial found both in nature and by organic synthesis.Its structural heterogeneity and disordered covalent/noncovalent interactions make it a grand challenge to tune and improve the physical and biological properties of both melanin sources.Herein,we report a facile one-pot fabrication approach for synthetic melanins with controlled size and composition via copolymerization of dopamine and basic amino acid such as arginine in an aqueous solution.The resulting arginine-doped polydopamine melanin-like nanoparticles possess less ordered nonplanar microstructures within the particles,whereas the conventional polydopamine-based melanins contain a variety of compactπ-stacked microstructures.The assembly of these distinct polymeric microstructures could lead the preceding ones for greater accessibility to free radicals,with resultant stronger free-radical scavenging effect,and thus,exhibit superior antioxidant performance toward cellular oxidative stress.This work has inspired us to continue to fabricate new synthetic melanin pigments with tunable and improved functions by rational structural tailoring.Peng Yang Zhipeng Gu Fang Zhu Yiwen Li 2020CCS Chemistry2020,2,2:4

11Superabsorbent poly(acrylic acid) and antioxidant poly(ester amide) hybrid hydrogel for enhanced wound healing显示文摘Wound healing dressing is increasingly needed in clinical owing to the large quantity of skin damage annually.Excessive reactive oxygen species(ROS)produced through internal or external environmental influences can lead to lipid peroxidation,protein denaturation,and even DNA damage,and ultimately have harmful effects on cells.Aiming to sufficiently contact with the wound microenvironment and scavenge ROS,superabsorbent poly(acrylic acid)and antioxidant poly(ester amide)(PAA/PEA)hybrid hydrogel has been developed to enhance wound healing.The physical and chemical properties of hybrid hydrogels were studied by Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR)absorption spectrum,compression,swelling,degradation,etc.Besides,the antioxidant properties of hybrid hydrogels can be investigated through the free radical scavenging experiment,and corresponding antioxidant indicators have been tested at the cellular level.Hybrid hydrogel scaffolds supported the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells and fibroblasts,as well as accelerated angiogenesis and skin regeneration in wounds.The healing properties of wounds in vivo were further assessed on mouse skin wounds.Results showed that PAA/PEA hybrid hydrogel scaffolds significantly accelerated the wound healing process through enhancing granulation formation and re-epithelialization.In summary,these superabsorbent and antioxidative hybrid hydrogels could be served as an excellent wound dressing for full-thickness wound healing.Jianhua Zhang Junfei Hu Baoshu Chen Tianbao Zhao Zhipeng Gu 2021Regenerative Biomaterials2021,8,2:1
12Manipulating the antioxidative capacity of melanin-like nanoparticles by involving condensation polymerization显示文摘Melanin is ubiquitous in nature and plays important roles in physiological activities especially in keeping the oxidative balance.Both natural and synthetic melanin were synthesized via the free radical polymerization of 5,6-dihydroxyindole(DHI)monomer,which may lead to the inherent compactπ-conjugation stacking microstructures and finally results in limited antioxidative capacities.To address this issue,we have strived to involve condensation polymerization during the melanin synthetic process,aiming to disrupt the compact stacking microstructures and improve the total antioxidative performance.The resulting melaninlike nanoparticles(NPs)indeed possessed less compact stackingπ-conjugation structures and decreased density,which further demonstrated enhanced antioxidative abilities compared with conventional melanin-like polymers such as poly-5,6-dihydroxyindole(Poly-DHI)and polydopamine(PDA).Their excellent free radical scavenging capability was further confirmed by the intracellular cell protection effects against reactive oxygen species(ROS)as well as in vivo therapy for acute diseases including acute kidney injury and acute liver injury.This work would promote future work toward new types of melanin-inspired nanomaterials with tunable and improved functions beyond nature.Peng Yang Tianyou Wang Jianhua Zhang Hengjie Zhang Wanjie Bai Gaigai Duan Wei Zhang Jinrong Wu Zhipeng Gu Yiwen Li 2023Science China Chemistry2023,66,5:1
13A Bioinspired Strategy Toward UV Absorption Enhancement of Melaninlike Polymers for Sun Protection显示文摘Due to the complexity of the structure within melanin and synthetic polymers(i.e.,polydopamine,PDA),it is a challenge to regulate the ultraviolet(UV)absorption.In nature,melanocytes can biosynthesize more pheomelanins than eumelanins via protein and gene overexpression for photoprotection when the UV irradiation is enhanced.During this biosynthetic pathway,L-cystine,transported by xCT gene,can be involved to form a new monomer structure incorporating a benzothiazole group,finally resulting in the formation of UV absorption-enhanced pheomelanin.Inspired by this,we have proposed a facile strategy to regulate the UV absorption of PDA by introducing the benzimidazole(BI)unit through the thiol-Michael addition reaction during the polymerization process.It was further found that the introduction of BI units not only significantly increased the content of chromophores and auxochromes,but also effectively restricted the red-shift of the absorption spectrum via interrupting the conjugated microstructure within PDA,both of which contribute to UV absorption enhancement.These UV absorption-enhanced PDA nanoparticles could be used to fabricate bio-inspired sunscreens for efficient sun protection.This work will provide a facile strategy to regulate UV absorption of melanin-like materials and open new horizons for the design and construction of bioinspired sunscreens.Zhen Yang Jianhua Zhang Huijie Liu Junfei Hu Xianheng Wang Wanjie Bai Wei Zhang Ye Yang Zhipeng Gu Yiwen Li 2023CCS Chemistry2023,5,10:1
14Tofu as excellent scaffolds for potential bone regeneration显示文摘Biomimetic scaffolds present the promising potential for bone regeneration.As a natural gel-like traditional food,tofu with porous architecture and proved biological safety indicated a good potential to be a natural scaffold and easy to be improved by surface modification.Hereon,we fabricated the tofubased scaffolds and systematically explored the potential for bone tissue engineering.In addition,the collagen has been introduced by simple coating to further enha nce the surface compatibility of the tofubased scaffold in bone regeneration.The results showed that the tofu-based scaffolds possessed good porous structure and cytocompatibility.Notably,the tofu-based scaffolds could improve the expression of osteogenesis-related genes and proteins,leading to better bone regeneration after 2 months of implantation.All the results indicated that to fu would become an outstanding sustainable natural porous scaffold for bone regeneration with excellent bioactivities.Keqing Huang Guiting Liu Zhipeng Gu Jun Wu 2020Chinese Chemical Letters2020,31,12:1

19The long non-coding RNA DANA2 positively regulates drought tolerance by recruitingERF84 to promote JMJ29-mediated histone demethylation显示文摘Tens of thousands of long non-coding RNAs have been uncovered in plants,but few of them have been comprehensively studied for their biological function and molecular mechanism of their mode of action.Here,we show that the Arabidopsis long non-coding RNA DANA2 interacts with an AP2/ERF transcription factor ERF84 in the cell nucleus and then affects the transcription of JMJ29 that encodes a Jumonji C domain-containing histone H3K9 demethylase.Both RNA sequencing(RNA-seq)and genetic analyses demonstrate that DANA2 positively regulates drought stress responses through JMJ29.JMJ29 positively regulates the expression of ERF15 and GOLS2 by modulation of H3K9me2 demethylation.Accordingly,mutation of JMJ29 causes decreased ERF15 and GOLS2 expression,resulting in impaired drought tolerance,in agreement with drought-sensitive phenotypes of dana2 and erf84 mutants.Taken together,these results demonstrate that DANA2 is a positive regulator of drought response and works jointly with the transcriptional activator ERF84 to modulate JMJ29 expression in plant response to drought.Pengxiang Zhang Reqing He Jun Yang Jingjing Cai Zhipeng Qu Rongxin Yang Jinbao Gu Zhen-Yu Wang David LAdelson Youlin Zhu Xiaofeng Cao Dong Wang 2023Molecular Plant2023,16,8:0
20Propolis inspired sunscreens for efficient UV-protection and skin barrier maintenance显示文摘The direct use of naturally occurring,small molecular ingredients in bioinspired sunscreens has raised several concerns due to the instability,photocytotoxicity,and potential blood toxicity of those ingredients.In this work,we have employed natural ultraviolet(UV)-blocking molecule caffeic acid phenethyl ester(CAPE)from propolis to prepare poly(CAPE)nanoparticles(NPs)as the main bioactive ingredient to fabricate propolis-inspired hydrogel sunscreens.Compared with small molecular CAPE,poly(CAPE)NPs exhibited better dispersion and stability in water,as well as lower physiological toxicity and skin permeability.And the resulting composite hydrogels demonstrated promising properties including water-resistant whereas can be easily erased by warm water as well as safety when interacting with skin.More importantly,the hydrogel sunscreens showed excellent UV protection properties both in vitro and in vivo,and the positive effects in maintaining skin barrier functions.This work provides new strategies towards the facile construction of nature-inspired robust sunscreens in the future.Yu Fu Ruoyu Wan Lei Yang Lidan Xiong Junfei Hu Jie Tang Hailun He Zhipeng Gu Li Li Yiwen Li 2022Nano Research2022,15,9:0
