| 2 | Large-Scale Membrane Bioreactors for Industrial Wastewater Treatment in China:Technical and Economic Features,Driving Forces,and Perspectives显示文摘Membrane bioreactors(MBRs)have been and will continue playing an important role in industrial wastewater treatment and reuse in China.The sustainable development of MBR technology in its mature-application stage requires reciprocal interactions between engineering and research participants.Thus,in this study,a total of 182 large-scale MBR projects treating industrial wastewater(with individual treatment capacities5000 m3d1)commissioned and under construction from 2003 to 2019 were analyzed comprehensively.Fast growth of the cumulative treatment capacity was observed,with extension to diverse industries,and the super large-scale was enhanced recently.The treatment processes,pollutant removal efficiencies,and actual operational parameters were summarized regarding the particularity of industrial wastewater compared to municipal wastewater.Economic features including the total investment costs of the projects,their total footprint,and their operational energy consumption were analyzed as well.A vigorous MBR market has formed in China with the fast development of membrane elements and engineering suppliers,continuously increasing official oriented projects,and responsive and innovative business modes.MBR technology has been mostly applied in specific economic zones and water-deficient areas,but its widespread use all over China is foreseeable considering the vast future market for industrial wastewater treatment and recycling.The policy–economy and market–technology driving forces revealed that MBR is consistent with the national development demand.According to the survey and analysis,prospective development in both engineering and research aspects of MBR is proposed to maintain its competitive edge. | Jiao Zhang Kang Xiao Ziwei Liu Tingwei Gao Shuai Liang Xia Huang | 2021 | Engineering2021,7,6: | 9 |
| 3 | A lariat-derived circular RNA is required for plant development in Arabidopsis显示文摘Lariat RNA is produced during pre-mRNA splicing, and it is traditionally thought as by-products, due to the quick turnover by debranching followed by degradation. However, recent findings identified many lariat RNAs accumulate with a circular form in higher eukaryotes. Although the remarkable accumulation, biological consequence of lariat-derived circular RNAs(here we name laciRNAs) remains largely unknown. Here, we report that a specific laciRNA from At5 g37720 plays an essential role in plant development by regulating gene expression globally. We focus on 17 laciRNAs with accumulation in wild type plants by circular RNA sequencing in Arabidopsis. To determine biological functions of these laciRNAs, we constructed one pair of transgenic plants for each laciRNA, in which the local gene with or without introns was over-expressed in wild type plants,respectively. | 6 | Enhancement of precursor amino acid supplies for improving bacitracin production by activation of branched chain amino acid transporter BrnQ and deletion of its regulator gene lrp in Bacillus licheniformis显示文摘Bacitracin,a new type of cyclic peptide antibiotic,is widely used as the feed additive in feed industry.Branched chain amino acids(BCAAs)are the key precursors for bacitracin synthesis.In this research,soybean meal was served as the raw material to supply precursor amino acids for bacitracin synthesis,and enhanced production of bacitracin was attempted by engineering BCAA transporter BrnQ and its regulator Lrp in the bacitracin industrial production strain Bacillus licheniformis DW2.Firstly,our results confirmed that Lrp negatively affected bacitracin synthesis in DW2,and deletion of lrp improved intracellular BCAA accumulations,as well as the expression level of BCAA transporter BrnQ,which further led to a 14.71%increase of bacitracin yield,compared with that of DW2.On the contrary,overexpression of Lrp decreased bacitracin yield by 12.28%.Secondly,it was suggested that BrnQ acted as a BCAA importer in DW2,and overexpression of BrnQ enhanced the intracellular BCAA accumulations and 10.43%of bacitracin yield.While,the bacitracin yield decreased by 18.27%in the brnQ deletion strain DW2△brnQ.Finally,BrnQ was further overexpressed in lrp deletion strain DW2△lrp,and bacitracin yield produced by the final strain DW2△lrp::BrnQ was 965.34 U/mL,increased by 22.42%compared with that of DW2(788.48 U/mL).Collectively,this research confirmed that Lrp affected bacitracin synthesis via regulating the expression of BCAA transporter BrnQ and BCAA distributions,and provided a promising strain for industrial production of bacitracin. | Jiang Zhu Dongbo Cai Haixia Xu Ziwei Liu Bowen Zhang Fei Wu Junhui Li Shouwen Chen | 2018 | Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2018,3,4: | 6 |
| 7 | Occurrence and bioaccumulation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers in sediments and paddy ecosystems of Liaohe River Basin, northeast China显示文摘Concentrations of 16 polybrominated diphenyl ether(PBDE) congeners were measured in river sediments, paddy soils and three species of paddy-field organisms(crab, loach and carp) collected from the Liaohe River Basin, northeastern China. The total contents of PBDEs(∑_(16)PBDEs) in sediments and paddy soils were in the ranges of 273.4–3246.3 pg/g dry weight(dw), and 192.1–1783.8 pg/g dw, respectively. BDE 209 was the dominant congener both in sediments and paddy soils. The concentrations of ∑_(16)PBDEs in sediments were significantly higher than those in the adjacent paddy soils, indicating a potential transport of PBDEs from river to paddy ecosystems via river water irrigation. The biota–soil accumulation factor(BSAF) was calculated as the ratio between the lipid-normalized concentration in paddyfield organisms and the total organic carbon-normalized concentration in paddy soil. The average BSAF values of ∑15PBDEs followed the sequence of crab(3.6) > loach(3.3) > carp(2.1). BDE 154 had the highest BSAF value, and a parabolic trend between BSAF values of individual PBDE congeners and their log KOWvalues was observed. | 9 | Temperature dependent Raman and photoluminescence of vertical WS2/MoS2 monolayer heterostructures显示文摘Heterostructures from two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides MX_2 have emerged as a hot topic in recent years due to their various fascinating properties. Here, we investigated the temperature dependent Raman and photoluminescence(PL) spectra in vertical stacked WS_2/MoS_2 monolayer heterostructures. Our result shows that both E_(2g)~1 and A_(1g) modes of WS_2 and MoS_2 vary linearly with temperature increasing from 300 to 642 K. The PL measurement also reveals strong temperature dependencies of the PL intensity and peak position. The activation energy of the thermal quenching of the PL emission has been found to be equal to 69.6 meV. | 10 | Adsorption of three pharmaceuticals on two magnetic ion-exchange resins显示文摘The presence of pharmaceuticals in aquatic environments poses potential risks to the ecology and human health. This study investigated the removal of three widely detected and abundant pharmaceuticals, namely, ibuprofen(IBU), diclofenac(DC), and sulfadiazine(SDZ), by two magnetic ion-exchange resins. The adsorption kinetics of the three adsorbates onto both resins was relatively fast and followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. Despite the different pore structures of the two resins, similar adsorption patterns of DC and SDZ were observed, implying the existence of an ion-exchange mechanism. IBU demonstrated a combination of interactions during the adsorption process. These interactions were dependent on the specific surface area and functional groups of the resin. The adsorption isotherm fittings verified the differences in the behavior of the three pharmaceuticals on the two magnetic ion-exchange resins. The presence of Cl-and SO2-4suppressed the adsorption amount, but with different inhibition levels for different adsorbates. | 14 | A fully automated centrifugal microfluidic system for sample-to-answer viral nucleic acid testing显示文摘The outbreak of virus-induced infectious diseases poses a global public-health challenge.Nucleic acid amplification testing(NAAT)enables early detection of pandemic viruses and plays a vital role in preventing onward transmission.However,the requirement of skilled operators,expensive instrumentation,and biosafety laboratories has hindered the use of NAAT for screening and diagnosis of suspected patients.Here we report development of a fully automated centrifugal microfluidic system with sample-in-answer-out capability for sensitive,specific,and rapid viral nucleic acid testing.The release of nucleic acids and the subsequent reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification(RT-LAMP)were integrated into the reaction units of a microfluidic disc.The whole processing steps such as injection of reagents,fluid actuation by rotation,heating and temperature control,and detection of fluorescence signals were carried out automatically by a customized instrument.We validate the centrifugal microfluidic system using oropharyngeal swab samples spiked with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)armored RNA particles.The estimated limit of detection for armored RNA particles is 2 copies per reaction,the throughput is 21 reactions per disc,and the assay sample-to-answer time is approximately 70 min.This enclosed and automated microfluidic system efficiently avoids viral contamination of aerosol,and can be readily adapted for virus detection outside the diagnostic laboratory. | Fei Tian Chao Liu Jinqi Deng Ziwei Han Lu Zhang Qinghua Chen Jiashu Sun | 2020 | Science China Chemistry2020,63,10: | 4 |
| 15 | Comparison of noise-levels between superconducting gravimeter and gPhone gravimeter显示文摘For comparison of noise levels between superconducting gravimeters(SGs) and gPhone gravimeters, we conducted an experiment in which we carried out co-located observations of gravity changes by the same gPhone gravimeter and Superconducting Gravimeter(SG) at Wuhan, Lhasa and Lijiang stations respectively, and the observation at each station lasted approximately 2 months. We calculated the root mean square(RMS) of the gravity residual in each station and selected the five days in which the gravity residuals had the minimum RMS representing the background noise level as a quiet period. Based on the gravity residuals in these five quiet days, we calculated the mean power spectral density(PSD), seismic band noise magnitude(SNM) and sub-seismic band noise magnitude(SSNM). Furthermore, we simulated the influence of scale-factor error on SNM. We found that the SNM of the SGs ranged between 1.22 and 1.50 and the SSNM ranged from 3.96 to 4.74 during the experiment. The SNM of the gPhone gravimeter ranged from 2.93 to 3.06, and the SSNM of the gPhone gravimeter ranged between 4.17 and5.29. The SNM of the SG at Wuhan station was the highest among three SGs, while the corresponding SSNM was the lowest. The SG at Lhasa station, in contrast, had the highest SSNM and lowest SNM. The PSDs of gPhone gravimeters in high-frequency bands, including the seismic bands, were much larger than those of SGs. In the sub-seismic bands, SGs can approach or reach seismograph detection level. In the band frequency below 3×10^(-5) Hz, SGs and gPhone gravimeter have lower PSDs than seismometers,indicating that high-precision continuous gravimeters are better than seismometers in detecting longperiod signals. | 16 | Impact of Different Diets on Adult Tri-Spine Horseshoe Crab,Tachypleus tridentatus显示文摘Effective culture and management of adult tri-spine horseshoe crab,Tachypleus tridentatus can ensure that stock enhancement programs and aquaculture systems are maintained.To explore suitable feed for animals during the breeding season,Pacific oyster(Ostrea gigas)(oyster group;OG)and frozen sharpbelly fish(Hemiculter leucisculus)(frozen fish group;FG)were selected to feed 20 T.tridentatus male and female pairs,respectively.At the end of the experiment,intestinal samples were obtained to measure digestive enzymes activities.The intestinal flora were determined by 16S r DNA sequencing.No eggs were observed in the FG and one T.tridentatus adult died.No animals died in the OG,and 9.7×10;eggs were obtained.These results show that oysters are more suitable for the development and reproduction of adult T.tridentatus than frozen fish.Additionally,the digestive enzyme activity analysis revealed that animals in the OG exhibited higher protein digestibility than those in the FG,but no significant differences in lipid and carbohydrate uptake were observed between the groups.Furthermore,the intestinal flora analysis showed that operational taxonomic units(OTUs)and the Chao1 index were significantly higher in the OG than in the FG,but no significant difference was observed in the Shannon or Simpson indices between the groups.Our data indicate that the oyster diet improved the intestinal microbial diversity of T.tridentatus.We hypothesize that nutrients,such as oyster-based taurine,proteins,and highly unsaturated fatty acids,improve protease activity in the T.tridentatus digestive tract,alter the intestinal floral structure,and improve the reproductive performance of T.tridentatus. | YING Ziwei BAO Yuyuan LI Yinkang YE Guoling ZHANG Shuhuan XU Peng ZHU Junhua XIE Xiaoyong | 2022 | Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,3: | 3 |
| 17 | M3SC:A Generic Dataset for Mixed Multi-Modal(MMM)Sensing and Communication Integration显示文摘The sixth generation(6G)of mobile communication system is witnessing a new paradigm shift,i.e.,integrated sensing-communication system.A comprehensive dataset is a prerequisite for 6G integrated sensing-communication research.This paper develops a novel simulation dataset,named M3SC,for mixed multi-modal(MMM)sensing-communication integration,and the generation framework of the M3SC dataset is further given.To obtain multimodal sensory data in physical space and communication data in electromagnetic space,we utilize Air-Sim and WaveFarer to collect multi-modal sensory data and exploit Wireless InSite to collect communication data.Furthermore,the in-depth integration and precise alignment of AirSim,WaveFarer,andWireless InSite are achieved.The M3SC dataset covers various weather conditions,multiplex frequency bands,and different times of the day.Currently,the M3SC dataset contains 1500 snapshots,including 80 RGB images,160 depth maps,80 LiDAR point clouds,256 sets of mmWave waveforms with 8 radar point clouds,and 72 channel impulse response(CIR)matrices per snapshot,thus totaling 120,000 RGB images,240,000 depth maps,120,000 LiDAR point clouds,384,000 sets of mmWave waveforms with 12,000 radar point clouds,and 108,000 CIR matrices.The data processing result presents the multi-modal sensory information and communication channel statistical properties.Finally,the MMM sensing-communication application,which can be supported by the M3SC dataset,is discussed. | Xiang Cheng Ziwei Huang Lu Bai Haotian Zhang Mingran Sun Boxun Liu Sijiang Li Jianan Zhang Minson Lee | 2023 | China Communications2023,20,11: | 3 |
| 18 | A numerical investigation of gas flow behavior in two-layered coal seams considering interlayer interference and heterogeneity显示文摘Multiple-seam gas coproduction is a technology with potential to achieve economic targets.Physical experiments could replicate gas flow dynamics in two seams.In this study,numerical simulation was conducted based on physical experiments.Through calibration,the simulated results agreed with the experimental results.Three findings were obtained.First,the pressure distribution intrinsically depends on the depressurization effectiveness in each coal seam.The gas pressure difference and interval distance influence the pressure distribution by inhibiting depressurization in the top seams and bottom seams,respectively.Second,the production contribution shows a logarithmic relationship with the permeability ratio.The range of the production contribution difference grows from 11.24%to 99.99%when the permeability ratio increases 50 times.By comparison,reservoir pressure has a limited influence,with a maximum of 13.64%.Third,the interlayer interference of the top seams and bottom seams can be intensified by the reservoir pressure difference and the interval distance,respectively.The proposed model has been calibrated and verified and can be directly applied to engineering,serving as a reference for reservoir combination optimization.In summary,coal seams with a permeability ratio within 10,reservoir pressure difference within 1.50 MPa,and interval distances within 50 m are recommended to coproduce together. | Ziwei Wang Yong Qin Teng Li Xiaoyang Zhang | 2021 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2021,31,4: | 3 |
| 19 | Kidney injury molecule-1 is a potential receptor for SARS-CoV-2显示文摘COVID-19 patients present high incidence of kidney abnormalities,which are associated with poor prognosis and mortality.The identification of SARS-CoV-2 in the kidney of COVID-19 patients suggests renal tropism of SARS-CoV-2.However,whether there is a specific target of SARS-CoV-2 in the kidney remains unclear.Herein,by using in silico simulation,coimmunoprecipitation,fluorescence resonance energy transfer,fluorescein isothiocyanate labeling,and rational design of antagonist peptides,we demonstrate that kidney injury molecule-1(KIM1),a molecule dramatically upregulated upon kidney injury,binds with the receptor-binding domain(RBD)of SARS-CoV-2 and facilitates its attachment to cell membrane,with the immunoglobulin variable Ig-like(Ig V)domain of KIM1 playing a key role in this recognition.The interaction between SARS-CoV-2 RBD and KIM1 is potently blockaded by a rationally designed KIM1-derived polypeptide AP2.In addition,our results also suggest interactions between KIM1 Ig V domain and the RBDs of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV,pathogens of two severe infectious respiratory diseases.Together,these findings suggest KIM1 as a novel receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses.We propose that KIM1 may thus mediate and exacerbate the renal infection of SARS-CoV-2 in a‘vicious cycle’,and KIM1 could be further explored as a therapeutic target. | Chen Yang Yu Zhang Xia Zeng Huijing Chen Dong Yang Yuchen Chen Ziwei Shen Xiaomu Wang Xinran Liu Mingrui Xiong Hong Chen Kun Huang | 2021 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2021,13,3: | 2 |
| 20 | Explore the QCD phase transition phenomena from a multiphase transport model显示文摘We study the phase structure of QCD matter in the framework of a multiphase transport model by implementing a strong local parton density fluctuation scenario. Our calculations on the beam energy dependence of net-proton high moment show that local parton density fluctuation only has a small effect. But it becomes important when all baryons are included. We then study the effect on elliptic flow and find that an enhanced local parton density fluctuation leads to a significant effect on protons but a small effect on pions.
